it's an interesting read, even a bit sad in some parts.

I can only relate slightly, because I'm mostly Filipina, but don't look it (I look more Western). and some people actually told me before that it's best I don't speak Filipino because I don't look it and it would be too "weird" if they heard it coming out of my mouth...

They said it's best if you don't speak it?  Best for whom?  For you? or for them?  I say speak it if you want to, they'll just have to get used to it (which they will, given enough time).
