A woman who died after a car crash had been shot in the heart minutes earlier with a pellet gun that her 14-year-old son received as a Christmas gift, police said.

After reading the article it looks like she was an unfit mother to begin with. The kid only did what he had to do to defend his grandpa.

ya.... I agree with JFC, the mother had problems already before she died. Furthermore, the article didn't mention how badly the car accident was. So the pellet gun did affected her, but perhaps the main cause of her death was major blood loss or some organ damage during the car accident.
