A/N: Hello again people! Here I am with yet another fic, which is just going to slow down the updates of everything else but I guess I’m just going to have to work harder now XD I don’t really want to say too much about this fic other than it’s a little bit more like “X” compared to the other things I’ve done and it’s also set back in the edo period, so they might be some unusual words or terms in later updates but I’ll make sure to explain those when they come up. Also I’d like to say a big thanks to Sherin for the wonderful poster and being part of the reason I’m writing this fic XD Now without further ado I hope you all enjoy!

Prologue

It was supposed to be a simple life. A mere dot on the map where we would be born, raised and eventually die; never caring about anything that existed beyond the confines of the village. We all just got on with our lives appreciating everything that our various ancestors had built up for us. Nothing interesting would ever happen but then that was what we were all used to. There was never any expectation for excitement in our peaceful setting; the furthest anyone ever travelled was into the forests beside us to hunt for more food. It was as if we had an unwritten agreement with everyone else that as long as we didn’t bother them they would leave us be and we certainly never ventured any further than we needed to.

Yet the whim of a single man was all it took to cause our tranquil world to come crashing down. Bored of a period without conflict the shogun called for a search amongst the lands to find the two strongest people to replace him as the leader of the nation. Wanting to taste power for the first time many of the weak and desperately took up arms killing each other in fear of someone else taking ahold the title before they did. Thus the entire country soon became a battlefield bathed in blood, the innocent constantly living in fear of being caught in the conflict between the countless thugs and we were no different…

Fleeing from the thugs I rushed through the scorching labyrinth, continuously dodging the sparks of red hot ash spitting up from the searing beams of wood that were falling all around me. Pausing only to briefly scan my eyes through the ruins I continued on my frantic search until my foot caught something and sent me tumbling down onto the smoldering ground. Scrambling back up to my feet I glanced back at the cause of my fall and immediately gagged as the stench of the charred body slammed me square in the nose. Then all of a sudden a familiar shriek pierced through my head causing my eyes to expand in panic. Fearing the worst I took off in the general direction of the cry praying that I would be able to get back in time. Not caring about being spotted by the thugs I leapt out from the flames and raced down the dirt tracks that extended through the entire village. However just as I reached my destination there was an even louder scream come from the burning house, sending a blood curdling shiver down my spine. Bursting into the building I stepped straight into a thick wall of smoke yet beyond it I could vaguely make out the shadow of four bodies, two of which were motionless on the floor.

Realizing exactly what the limp bodies meant I shifted my dejected eyes onto the two remaining shades as one of them began raising their axe wielding arm high above their head before swinging it back down again, while the other one remained still on the floor as if they were presenting themself to death. Just as the weapon was about to strike its target the cogs of time came to a grinding halt and I felt a terrible sense of despair clutch at my heart. With everything around me frozen I was left to just watch the execution and let it happen; a mere bystander to the unavoidable terror that was about to unfold.

Thwack. A gut wrenching shriek reverberated through my head as I stared at the blade lodge itself into the side of the neck at a grotesque angle before yanking itself out, causing a frightening amount of crimson liquid to come gushing out. Still not satisfied with the amount of bloodshed the axe came plummeting back down again and ripped straight through the rest of the neck. I wanted to scream. I knew that if I stayed here I would end up being killed yet I didn’t even move an inch. My body had completely shut down, becoming a petrified statue, waiting for the cold blade to some slicing through my own neck. However the crazed killer was too busy enjoying himself to even notice me or the house that was starting fall around him. He began psychotically laughing as he manically slashed across the toppling body, making sure to completely mutilate it before moving on to the next toy.

“Jurina! We’ve got to leave!” Suddenly someone grabbed my hand and dragged me out of the house right as its last legs finally buckled away. Being dragged along like a puppet we raced across the sea of flames and dove into the thick hedges of the forest in order to find somewhere to hide.

“Don’t let them get away!” Hearing the ferocious roars the search began to hasten becoming more and more frantic with every second that elapsed. Eventually I had two scar covered arms wrap around my shoulders and draw me in beneath an uprooted tree. Resting my head on the surprisingly comforting arms I shut my tiring eyes, countless images of the horrors I had just witnessed flashing by my mind. As the screams of suffering echoed around my head, the rest of my body began to uncontrollably tremble. With tears of anguish dripping down my face I turned around and wrapped my arms around my guardian angel.

“Yu-Yuki…. They killed…” Barely forming words with my hysteric sobs I felt my nails digging deeper into flesh as the flames of fury came gradually rising up from the pits of despair. Along with my hands the grip of the arms surrounding me became increasingly tighter, pressing our bodies right up against each other. Then there was a voice. A voice shaking with rage whispered into my ears.

“I know Jurina, and they will all pay for their sins.”

@kurogumi: Don’t worry I’ll make sure to keep updating my other fics since you seem to be a fan of them as well~ and yeah this fic will be back to the slightly more darker style.

@Kochiki: Well I'm not sure just how brutal this fic will be but yeah there certainly won't be a shortage of deaths XD Also I thought I mentioned that it was Yuki that saved Jurina but oh well you know now. More importantly who was it that the man killed?

A/N: Hey guys chapter one for my new fic is here~ Not really much to say about it so I guess I should just say enjoy!

Quick note: There are some Japanese words that might need explaining so I’ve got a short dictionary here but if there are still things you don’t understand then feel free to ask~

hakama: Clothing that is worn over the kimono, tied up at the waist and falls down to around the ankles.
kodachi: Shorter sword typically less than 60cm long.
ryokan: Japanese Inn.
geta: Wooden sandals that raised off the ground with two planks running across the bottom.
zori: Straw sandals with a flat bottom.

Chapter 1

“P-please stop…” The waning moon was shining its fading spotlight down onto the weak sobbing man on the dirt.

“Huh you’re telling me, what to do!” Yelling at the defenseless man another long haired man swung his foot into the side of the flinching body. He then continued to kick and beat the curled up body, a disgusting smile forming on his face as the rest of his group joined in. Finally satisfied with the amount of pain they had inflicted on the helpless man the circle around the limp man moved away leaving only the leader next to the groaning body. He then crouched down to the ground and began pillaging through the kimono of the powerless man until he heard the clinking of metal.

“Tonight’s going to be a good night guys!” Triumphantly lifting up the pouch of coins above his head the cheering man addressed the countless men who had accompanied him in the humiliation of the man who lay with hid limbs sprawled across the ground. Then with a humongous cheer the group all left the dark alley and entered the busy main street. With every step he took the sweet sound of coins jangling around came from his pocket and everyone that once stood in the gang’s way immediately rushed off to the side.

“Heh look at all these cowards.” Looking around at all the petrified eyes that were staring at him, a cocky smirk began to form at the corners of the leader’s mouth.

“Kyaa!” While the leader was too busy sneering at the cowering public he had bumped into some woman, causing her to teeter over backwards.

“Watch where you’re walking you stupid bitch!” Yelling at the black haired girl the angry man began to raise his arm. However just as he was about to swing down with a slap the girl glanced up with a pair of bewitching eyes, causing the arm to freeze in midair.

“Wait a sec you’re actually pretty cute.” Mumbling smugly to himself the man began licking his lips while scanning every inch of the girl in front of him. She was dressed in a vibrant purple kimono and everything other than her alluring face was hidden by the long draping material of the dress.

“Ah… I’m really sorry about that…” Hastily getting up from the ground the girl timidly whispered while lowering her head in apology. She then gave another small gesture with her head and attempted to walk away.

“Woah where do you think you’re going?” Not wanting to let such a beauty escape he reached out with a sweaty hand clamped it on top of her shoulder.

“Don’t touch her.” Suddenly another girl appeared from nowhere and slapped away the man’s grasping arm. This second girl was nowhere near as attractive as the first one. Everything about her was the complete polar opposite of the shy girl behind her. Her scraggly hair was about half the length of the elegant flowing locks of the other girl and instead of a cute innocent gaze, the new girl was giving him a menacing glare.

“Huh? And what’re you going to do to stop me?” Brushing away disgustedly at his sleeve the man began calling over his subordinates while staring down at the girl. In fact on second glance he noticed that she was wearing a white kimono that was made for men but more importantly there was a sword resting on either side of her black hakama; except one of them was a little shorter than the other. “Oh I see you’re going to slice me up with your little blades.”

“I’m going to end you and all of your knucklehead friends.” Gritting her teeth together the girl ignored the chuckling men and took a step forward. She then clenched her fist and unleashed a huge punch into the man’s stomach. Seeing their boss being assaulted by some random girl the thugs all hurriedly drew their swords, causing everyone else to all scream and flee the scene. In response to being surrounded by the sword wielding men the short haired girl went ahead and pulled out both her katana, placing the shorter kodachi in her left hand.

“Ha… Jurina, why do you have to cause such a scene?” Letting out a tired sigh the girl in the purple kimono turned away from Jurina.

“But I couldn’t just stand back and let this grease bag touch you like that.” Still pointing her sword straight at the coughing boss Jurina lowered her body and lifted her right arm to the side. “Plus there’s only ten of them it won’t take me long to kill them all.”

“If you say so…” The other girl then began to walk straight towards one of the burly men that had surrounded them.

“Hey who the hell said you could…” The man was forced to stop midway through his sentence as a metallic blade slammed right in between his eyes.

“Well now there’s only nine.” Tugging effortlessly at the string that was attached to the kunai the girl just strolled past the collapsing body. Shocked at the cold efficiency displayed by the beautiful girl everyone’s body just froze up in fear.

“What are you doing just standing there! Don’t let her getaway!” Finally recovering from the punch the boss began yelling at his subordinates and pointing at the gliding girl. Scrambling around in a panic the two closest men started rushing towards the back of the girl with the swords raised high above their heads. However just as they were about to bring their blades down a swift whirlwind of silver appeared between them and the girl. The next thing the bewildered pair saw was their own blood spurting out from the multiple slashes across their chests.

“I told you not to touch her.” Jurina was crouched on the ground with the longer sword pointing upwards. As the two bodies fell over backwards Jurina rushed through the shower of blood and leapt at the nearest thug. Streaking across the air Jurina crossed her arms together over her head. Not having enough time to react to the flying girl the thug could only stare in awe as the girl carved an X-shaped cut across his chest.

“Six left…” Hastily regaining her balance from the attack Jurina turned to see the remaining men come charging toward her. After resetting her fighting stance Jurina began focusing her vision on the two banks of men charging toward.

Simultaneously blocking the two frontal attacks Jurina turned her blade around and flicked away one of the swords, allowing her to use her kodachi as a pivot to turn on. Jurina used the momentum of the spin to slice straight across the chest of the unknowing thug. She then continued on her spin and placed yet another slash on the chest causing another spurt of crimson liquid to burst into the chilled air. Fearful of the girl behind him the man hastily tumbled around, only to have two sharp blades pierce straight through his gut. Before Jurina could wrench her katana out of the limp body the four remaining thugs tried to take this opportunity and charged at the girl.

“Tch” Letting out an annoyed tut Jurina tightened her grip around the hilts and desperately yanked out the swords. But by the time she managed to free herself the four men were already midway through their swings, forcing her to roll away at the last minute. Despite her attempt to escape the falling blades Jurina still suffered from several cuts across her body. The gang chased after the tumbling girl with flailing arms, forcing her to keep rolling away until she slammed into a wall.

“Kill her!” Still standing in the middle of the road the leader was busy pointing out the obvious to his subordinates. Listening obediently to their boss the four men all swung their swords upwards to strike down on the seemingly helpless girl. However instead of swinging their swords down on the girl two of the men just loosely dropped their arms to their sides, a kunai on a thin string protruding from the back of their heads.

“Yuki some more help would be nice!” Jurina yelled at the girl in the purple kimono while she desperately held off the other two men.

“I’m working on it.” Yuki tugged on the strings to yank the knives out from the thick skulls and retrieve the blades. Once the knives were back in Yuki’s hands she immediately threw them at the two men that were overpowering Jurina, wrapping the string tightly around their necks. Feeling their airways shrink the thugs began frantically tearing at the string. This allowed Jurina the opportunity to push up against the choking thugs and end their suffering with two quick slashes across their chests.

“Y-you monsters!” Having witnessed the swift slaughter of his entire gang the leader yelped in fear and ran away from the two girls. Without saying a word Jurina sheathed her katana and took off chasing after the fleeing coward.

“Jurina wait!” Yuki hopelessly called out after the sprinting girl and watched her turn the corner. She then casually wandered past all the blood soaked corpses, as if they were nothing, and glanced down the pitch dark alley that Jurina went pelting down. Letting out an exasperated sigh Yuki slowly trotted after the girl into the maze of alleys. “Ha… Why do you have to be so troublesome?”

“I won’t let you get away!” Jurina was gritting her teeth in frustration as she rapidly chased after her prey. Unfortunately the man was surprisingly elusive so it took Jurina a huge amount of effort to just to keep her target in her sights. The constant weaving in and out of the twisting alleys was starting to take the toll on Jurina and her breaths started to feel heavier with every step she took. Just as she went around the hundredth corner she noticed another shadow standing in the way of the sprinting leader.

“Get out of my way!” Drawing out a dagger from its sheathe the fleeing man shrieked at the body blocking his way. Yet the shade remained motionless in the middle of the street almost daring the charging man to attack.

“Watch out!” Just as Jurina cried out to warn the mysterious figure there was a sudden flash of silver light followed by the sound of a blade slice through the air. Jurina’s legs slowed to a halt as she gazed at the scarf and cape flutter up in the wind created by the speed of the slash. Several crimson pearls were floating up from the tip of the curved blade, the moon rays bouncing off the glistening off the beads causing the surrounding to light up. Dazed by the breathtaking sight Jurina felt a shiver of excitement as the man keeled over backwards to reveal a cloaked figure with a large straw hat.

“W-wow that was amazing! Can you teach me how to do that?” Lifting her jaw up from the ground Jurina rushed across to the person as they sheathed their katana. The mysterious figure didn’t even react to the bounding girl’s request and began to walk away from her.

“Wait-wait, I won’t bother you for long.” Jurina hurriedly blocked the other swordsman’s path and bowed her head to the ground. “I just want to say thank you for helping me.”

“It was nothing…” Hearing the strangely soft mumble Jurina jerked her head up to try and catch a glimpse of the person’s face. What she saw beneath the hat was a surprisingly cute girl, who quickly brought the scarf around her face to hide everything other than a pair of nervous eyes.

“I better get going…” Just like that the girl lowered her head and brushed past the speechless Jurina.

Meanwhile Yuki was aimlessly wandering through the alleys trying to find where Jurina had disappeared to.

“She couldn’t have gotten too far away…” While she was mumbling to herself Yuki managed to spot someone briskly walking towards her. As the person got closer Yuki noticed that they looked rather suspicious. Their entire face was hidden by a combination of scarf and hat and they seemed to be making a conscious decision of sticking to the shadows of the walls.

“I’ll just kill them if they try anything.” Tightening the grip around the base of her knifes Yuki stopped and called out to the stranger.

“Excuse me?” Making sure to keep a safe distance Yuki feigned a smile while keeping her eyes focused on the stranger as she spoke, preparing to react to any sudden attack. “You haven’t by any chance seen a girl chasing after a man through here?”

Watching closely Yuki saw a slight shift beneath the cape, causing her to move her arm up and pretend to play with her hair so that she would be the first one to strike. Although all that appeared was an empty hand Yuki made a mental note of the katana that was sitting on the left hand side of the navy blue hakama.

“There was someone back there on that street.” Yuki was a little shocked to hear such a feminine voice from the shady stranger as they pointed toward one of the many alleys to the left. Before Yuki could properly thank the stranger, the illusive figure was already gliding away from her back into the shadows.

“Huh, whatever…” Deciding to not think much of the mysterious person Yuki just walked toward the alley that was pointed out to her.

“Eh I thought he was supposed to have…” From around the corner Yuki heard the confused sound of a very familiar voice. Jurina was crouched on the ground and scanning her eyes over the corpse, while making sure to not step in the red sea that surrounded it.

“Is this what you’re looking for?” Jurina turned to see a brown pouch come flying through the air toward her face. Using her swift reactions she jerked her head out of the way and caught the pouch. “Seriously Jurina you didn’t need to bother causing all that commotion.”

“I don’t care.” Jurina stuck out a tongue as she stood up and wandered across to Yuki. “I didn’t want those dirty hands to touch my precious Yukirin.” Dropping the pouch of coins on the floor Jurina freed up her hands to clasp Yuki in a tight embrace.

“Oi Jurina what are you doing? We need that money!” Trying to push the clambering girl off of her Yuki desperately reached out for the bag of coins on the floor.

“But I need a kiss from Yukirin.” Jurina shut her eyes and made an attempt to kiss Yuki forcing the other girl to crane her neck back in order to avoid their lips connecting.

“No you don’t!” Finally freeing herself from Jurina’s grip Yuki bent down and lifted up the pouch. “This is a week’s worth of food, if you’re lucky. I know just how much you love your meals.”

“Not as much as I love Yuki-chan.” Jurina bounced in front of Yuki then gazed up at her with pure innocent eyes.

“Whatever you say Jurina.” Yuki looked away from Jurina to try and hide her bright pink face. Unfortunately for her the other girl had caught a glimpse of the blushes.

“You liar~” Yuki could feel a finger poke at her increasingly red cheeks. “I know that Yuki-chan also thinks the same way.” Jurina continued to giggle as her prodding finger slowly moved down toward Yuki’s chest.

“Hey that’s out of bounds.” Yuki slapped away Jurina’s hand then took a step away from the disappointed girl. “Anyway we’d better find somewhere to stay for the night. I remember passing by a ryokan just a second ago.” With that being said Yuki strolled away from Jurina and turned the corner in search of a place to stay.

“Wait up Yuki!” Jurina burst into a jog to catch up with Yuki and latch onto her shoulder. “That’s better.” With her arm being constricted by Jurina, Yuki let out a labored sigh. She tried to ignore the humming weight of Jurina while retracing her steps back to the main streets. Eventually the pair arrived at the ryokan and slid open the wooden door to be met by a warm greeting.

“Welcome young ladies I assume you would like a room to stay in?” An old woman emerged from behind a counter and gestured towards the pair. Yuki replied with a slow cautious nod while Jurina was also vigorously nodding her head. “Well fortunately for you two I still have a room that’s available but unfortunately there’s only one futon left in there.”

“That’s perfect!” Jurina’s eyes lit up with a huge amount of excitement as she shrieked with sheer delight. The suddenness of the girl’s outburst caused the old lady to stumble in shock before letting out a small chuckle.

“It’s rare to have such young ladies stay in this place, and even rarer to find sisters as close as you two travelling with each other…” Before she had even finished the sentence the inn keeper knew she had said something wrong. The enthusiastic girl’s bright eyes had immediately become hollow dejected spheres. Trying to remove the awkward tension hanging over the three of them the lady behind the counter glanced at Yuki with a nervous smile.

“Her sister is dead.” Yuki spoke with a monotonous voice as she tossed a couple of coins onto the counter.

“Ah I see… Well I’m truly sorry—”

“Just tell us where the room is.” Despite the obvious anger in Yuki’s eyes she continued to speak with the same abruptness. It was clear that she was keen on avoiding any further mention of the subject.

“Ah right of course! Erm corridor to the left, furthest…” Without waiting for the woman to finish Yuki took Jurina’s hand and dragged the limp body down the corridor toward their room for the night.

Once Yuki had slid the door shut behind her she continued to hold onto Jurina’s hand while slipping her geta off. Jurina followed suit by placing her zori next to Yuki’s sandals before letting go of Yuki’s hand and plummeting face first down onto the futon. Yuki knelt down beside the silent girl and placed a tender hand on Jurina’s head. For a while Yuki just sat there stroking her hand through Jurina’s hair. Despite the constant comforting from Yuki Jurina continued to sob into the pillow. The bright cheerful memories she shared with her sister and Yuki kept flashing through her mind. However they were always drowned out by the imposing image of her sister being slaughtered and the gut wrenching laugh that always followed after the blade dug into her neck.

“R-Rena-nee-chan…” Eventually Jurina’s whimpering faded away as she sat up and rubbed at her blood shot eyes.

“Come on Jurina we should just go to sleep.” Yuki ruffled the younger girls head before getting up from the futon and facing away from the sniffling girl. Jurina then copied Yuki and began untying the cloth that was holding up her swords. After placing the swords on the tatami she let her hakama slip down to the ground. Stepping out from the cloth Jurina began to peel off her kimono to reveal a rather battle worn figure. There were several bandages tightly wrapped around her chest to cover up her breasts but other than that her delicate skin was covered with countless scars and bruises. Leaving her belongings in a chaotic pile Jurina spun around to see Yuki, in a thin white robe, fold her kimono and place it a neat tidy pile beneath one of her kunai. Yuki then lifted up the pillow and placed her other kunai beneath it.

“Do we really have to sleep with a knife under the pillow?” Yuki looked up to see a pouting Jurina leer at her with disapproving eyes. This caused Yuki’s face to form a frown as she lifted the quilt up.

“I know you don’t like it but it’s for our own safety.” Yuki slid under the quilt and gestured for Jurina to join her on the futon. Conceding to the truth Jurina shut her eyes and plonked herself down alongside Yuki.

“You’re right…” Jurina let out a drained sigh as she propped her head on Yuki’s shoulder. “I just wish that things weren’t so tense all the time. Being under the same quilt as Yuki and Rena used to give me a warm fuzzy feeling but now that Rena’s gone…” A single teardrop slid down Jurina’s cheek as she thought back to the cheerful days before the horrible tragedy had struck their village.

Yuki then reached around Jurina’s shoulder and wiped off the lone tear. “Well… At least you’re still alive to be sentimental about these things.” Yuki was trying to sound as optimistic as possible but that didn’t stop her own eyes from welling up. Tightening her embrace around Jurina, Yuki drew the two bodies even closer to each other. “And you’ll always have me beside you.” Placing a fond kiss on the younger girl’s forehead Yuki slipped her spare hand beneath the pillow and took out the kunai. Yuki released Jurina from her arms and presented the knife in her left hand before tossing on top of her pile of clothes.

“I’m sure we’ll be safe without it tonight.” Yuki felt a mild sensation spread through her body as Jurina gazed at her with a genuine smile. Jurina then leapt onto the shocked Yuki, causing the pair to topple onto the soft fluffy futon.

“Thanks Yuki.” Settling her head on Yuki’s chest Jurina nestled up to the cozy body and let her mind freely drift off.

“Just enjoy this while you still can.” Content at just observing the lovable expression of the sleeping girl Yuki just lay there in silence until she also began dreaming about the peaceful times that were cruelly snatched away from them.

Chapter 2

“Argh! Dammit where the hell have you gone off to!” Yuki was marching through a crowd of bustling people, constantly glancing down between the large buildings in search of Jurina. Yet all she could see in this new town were fancily dressed people flitting in and out of the vastly filled shops. However at least this meant that it should be a little easier to spot the oddly dressed girl. Every single woman was wearing a wonderfully elegant kimono; some of them were so beautiful that it even made Yuki look a little scruffy and third rate in comparison.

She just continued to walk further into the center of the town and wade through the thicker crowd of bodies. The buildings around her growing slightly larger and more impressive, causing the street to feel far more cramped than it actually was. However the sea of people seemed to part away in a mysterious murmur as everyone’s eyes began to point down towards the end of the street.

“What the heck is up with that girl, wearing such filthy things and staggering around like that.” Yuki followed the gazes down the street and let out a despairing sigh as her eyes fell up on an all too familiar face.

“I really shouldn’t be surprised should I…” Jurina was limping her way toward Yuki, occasionally stumbling over her own feet in an extremely clumsy motion. It was only then that Yuki noticed Jurina desperately clutching onto her stomach and show a grimace across her face. Panicking at the sight of the pained Jurina Yuki scrambled across and grabbed onto the girl’s shoulders.

“Jurina! Are you ok!” She shook the girl’s body around to try to get some sort of reaction. Jurina just groaned and made an attempt to stand up by her own strength only to have Yuki lift her up.

“You’re not moving by yourself!” With that Yuki hurriedly took Jurina away from the middle of the street and sat her down against the wall in a quieter alley. She then pulled Jurina’s clothes apart to inspect the injury to the stomach, only to find that there was absolutely no sign of blood.

“What are you actually complaining about?” Yuki gasped with surprise and gave Jurina an enquiring glare. In response Jurina just grabbed at her stomach and made a disturbing sound as her head lurched forward.

“My… Stomach… I think I ate…” Jurina turned to the side and let out a horrendous noise causing Yuki to step back in shock. Eventually Jurina managed to stop with the coughing and wiped her hand across her mouth before facing up to Yuki.

“Sorry about that Yuki…” She flashed her typical grin at Yuki, though it was probably a little meeker than usual, and then slowly lifted herself up from the ground.

“Mou you rush off as soon as we arrive here and eventually when I find you, in the street you collapse right in front of me!” With a clear tone of annoyance and worry Yuki continued on with a small rant. “Not only that but when I think you’re actually injured and try to take care of you, all I get is you throwing up all over the place!”

“I’m sorry Yuki but I guess I just couldn’t resist all the wonderful food here.” Yuki just stared at Jurina with a telling look of disbelief.

“Wait a second when you said that you were really desperate to visit this town…” Knowing exactly what Yuki was going to say Jurina gave a small nervous nod. “All you wanted to do was waste our cash and gorge yourself with food?”

“Er yeah I guess so…” Jurina whispered quietly and walked up toward Yuki. She then latched onto the surprised girl’s arm and tried to win her over with her shining smile. “But you know you should get something to eat as well! I remember seeing this really special shop nearby!”

“Jurina, wait!” Yuki slipped her arm away from Jurina and pointed her hidden hand at a small pouch on the ground. “You weren’t intending on just leaving our money behind were you?” Instead of Yuki lifting up the pouch it was Jurina who leapt across and snatched it up from the ground.

“Ah I can’t believe I actually forgot about such an important thing!” Jurina fumbled around with the pouch before tying it around her waist beside her sword.

“Give me that Jurina. I’m not going to let you just spend money like that again.” Yuki immediately reached out to try and untie the pouch, only to have Jurina leap back and place a threatening hand around her sword.

“I… I can’t let you take this from me…” Jurina loosened her grip and then returned to her playful smile. “Plus it isn’t money in here since I er… spent it all on the sweets in here…” She tapped on the cloth and grimaced at Yuki’s infuriated face.

“So you’re telling me that you have absolutely no money with you now.” A slight shiver ran through Jurina’s spine as she answered with a simple nod.

“But you still have most of it, right..?” Along with a surprisingly cheerful voice, Jurina’s arms were back around Yuki’s and tugging tightly on it. “That means we can still got to that shop I mentioned!”

“That’s not the point right now!” Reluctantly Yuki let herself be dragged out of the alley, her mind trying to stand firm against Jurina’s attempt to distract her. She wasn’t going to let the younger girl off for burning up so much money on food that it actually made her physically sick. However a part of her was relieved that her initial panic over Jurina was about a stomach ache rather than a serious injury. So the two girls were scrambling back through the town, retracing Jurina’s steps toward this “special” shop residing further in the middle of the town.

“Here it is!” The exclaiming Jurina continued to rush head on toward the shop with Yuki’s limp body flying along behind her. As soon as they burst into the bustling shop a wave of warm air slammed right into them, carrying with it this magnificent scent of sweet fresh melons..? It was then that Yuki had the chance to look all around this bizarre shop where every single display had at least one type of melon sitting on top of it.

“Hey Jurina, what is exactly are we doing here in this weird shop?” Yuki continued to look around at the various foods on display, most of them carrying a strange green tinge.

“It’s ok Yuki. You can just go ahead and wait outside while I grab what I’m looking for.” After letting go of Yuki’s arm Jurina went deeper into the mysterious shop and left behind a stuttering Yuki.

“Wait I thought you’d already spent all the money you had!” The confused cry from Yuki fell up on deaf ears as she was gradually pushed out of the shop. In the end Yuki just leant against a wooden post beside the entrance and waited for the younger girl to finish with whatever business she had in that shop.

“I’m done now Yuki.” Eventually Jurina came bounding out of the shop with several golden steaming buns cradled in her arms. They briefly wandered away from the shop before Jurina picked out one of the three buns and handed it to Yuki with a smile.

“You know what this is right?” Yuki thought about Jurina’s question as she took the bread out from Jurina’s hand. She peered at the crisscrossing pattern across the crust before taking a minute nibble out of the bun.

“Hmm… Wait is this melonpan?” There was a slightly curious look on Yuki’s face as Jurina nodded in reply and took a mighty chomp out of her own bread. Yuki just let out an interested hum and continued to take small bites from the bread as the pair continued to wander through the busy crowds. As they were aimlessly walking around Yuki noticed that despite immediately finishing her first bun Jurina had not even looked at the third and final bun in her hand.

“Hey Jurina, why did you have to waste money on that third melonpan if you had no intentions of eating it?” Jurina responded to Yuki’s query with an unusually glum tone and a strange distant smile.

“Well you know today is a special day for someone…” A look of puzzlement descended upon Yuki’s face as she thought about who and what Jurina was talking about.

“Who are you talking about?” Since it was just the two of them travelling together for the past number of years she figured that she would be able to remember any sort of special occasion. Unlike Jurina who seemed to have completely forgotten a particularly important day from a few weeks ago.

“You know that I’m talking about Rena…” Jurina turned her solemn gaze away from Yuki and tightly squeezed the melonpan to her chest. “Or have you forgotten that it’s her birthday today?”

“Of course I haven’t!” Despite being able to hide the initial embarrassment of forgetting such an important date there was still this lingering tone of frustration in her voice. “I just thought you know maybe you could have remembered some other things as well…”

“Hmm what are you talking about?” It was a miracle that Jurina’s words didn’t cause Yuki’s head to explode with anger. She desperately wanted to remind the girl that it was her birthday not so long ago and she was still waiting for some kind of small acknowledgement of that day. Yet she didn’t even say happy birthday on the day…

“Never mind about that…” There was no way that Yuki was going to speak out about her problems now and ruin Jurina’s day over such a thing. She realizes how much Jurina misses her sister and to be quite honest Yuki was glad that Jurina reminded her of such a precious day. “Is there still some other things you want to do in the town?”

“Well actually there is one other thing…” Jurina peeked down at the pouch beside her sword before glancing around at the bustling bodies and letting out a sigh. “But I guess we should leave this busy place first.”

Suddenly a body slammed into Jurina and knocked her down onto the ground, causing the bun to fall out of her hand and get kicked away by the countless legs marching across the ground. However Jurina’s immediate response to being knocked down was to ignore the melonpan and tap frantically around the top of her hakama for her treasured pouch.

“Come back here!” Jurina yelled at the fleeing man as she spun onto her stomach and took off like a sprinter, leaving a thin trail of dust behind her.

“Jurina it’s just some sweets!” Yuki cried out hopelessly after the racing girl knowing fully well that nothing was going to stop Jurina from catching the poor thief. “Argh, why do I have to run after her again!” Before trying to catch up with Jurina, Yuki stomped her foot down on the dirt and cantered off through the puzzled crowd.

Meanwhile Jurina was furiously chasing after the scrambling thief as he headed far out toward the outskirts of the town. Every time she got closer to catching him, he seemed to find some sort of extra burst of energy and just escape her clutches. Fed up with the cat and mouse chase Jurina took out her kodachi and primed her arm to throw the blade at the thief’s back but before she swung her arm forward there was a frantic cry from behind her.

“Jurina what are you doing it’s just a pouch of sweets right?” Yuki had somehow managed to catch up with Jurina but was clearly suffering from all the running she had to do. Jurina just growled and continued to pursue the man only to see a wall of men suddenly step out in front of him and knock him down onto the ground. The impact of his fall caused a mysterious black sphere to pop out of the pouch and then fall back towards down with a silver slither trailing after it. The object then landed in the palm of one of the men’s scarred hand and allowed him to closely inspect the jewel with his single good eye.

“So this is supposed to be worth all the gold you owe me?” He stared down at the cowering thief and sneered at the meek pathetic response.

“Jurina I thought you said that it was just sweets…” Yuki found herself being ignored by the younger girl as she wandered right up to the wall of men. Jurina simply pushed over the body of the thief with her foot and stood directly in front of the smirking leader.

“What the hell do you…” Before he could finish his sentence Jurina had flashed her right hand straight across his neck, slashing his throat open and causing blood to come spurting out. She then kicked the body over and stood beneath the crimson rain casting her dead eyes across the few remaining men in the road.

“B…Boss!” Frantic calls wrung out as the flustered men tried reaching into their kimono to grab a hold of their knives. However the man closest to Jurina ended up leaving his hand in his pocket as she severed apart his wrist with a flick of her own. There was a piercing scream as he watched his arm emerge with blood spewing out at an alarming rate. He was then put out of his misery by a slender blade being buried deep inside of his heart. Jurina decided to leave her kodachi in the body and turned toward the two remaining thugs as they charged at her with their two flimsy daggers. The younger girl didn’t even bat an eyelid as she took a sliding step backwards to avoid the two frantic slashes. She then stepped forward again slammed a bloody fist into the chest of the man to her right before having to jump back to avoid the swinging blade of the other thug. Jurina just kept dancing around the flailing arm with next to zero effort. Her drenched hair flicking off beads of blood as she deflected his arm and spun around the back of him to face the other enemy, who was still knelt down to recover from Jurina’s punch. Using a reversed grip, Jurina placed her left hand around the sword on her left and slashed straight up creating a large cut on his shoulder. She then placed her right hand on top of the hilt and sent the katana plunging back down and into the defenseless back of the final thug.

In the distance Yuki was just left to watch Jurina yank the katana out of the body and stand between the two collapsing bodies as even more blood showered over the motionless shadow of Jurina. Then all of a sudden the cowardly thief grabbed onto Jurina’s leg and began thanking her.

“Th…Thank you for saving me from those thugs! They…. They held my family as hostages…” He was cut short by a vicious swing of Jurina’s leg; her foot connecting perfectly with the side of his head and knocking him out.

“I didn’t do any of this to help you.” With a telling look of distain on her face Jurina lifted her leg away from the loosening grip of the limp thief and leant over to draw her kodachi out of the corpse. She then moved onto her very first kill and pried open his fingers to pick out the stone from his palm. While tightly gripping onto the jewel Jurina strolled across to Yuki and gave her a sheepish grin. If any normal person saw the girl’s smile it would be almost impossible to comprehend the fact that she was the one responsible for the grotesque scene behind her, despite the fact that her clothes were completely covered with blood stains.

“I know it’s quite late but…” Jurina held out her hand and revealed the dark jewel to Yuki. For a moment Yuki could only stare at the black shimmering stone before looking up at Jurina with disbelief. “Happy birthday…”

“Eh? Are you saying that you got this for me?” Yuki pointed at her own face and then at the stone before pointing at herself again. Then a sudden thought of panic set into Yuki’s mind as she recalled back to what was mentioned earlier. “Wait a second; just how much did you spend on this thing along with all the food you ate today!”

“Don’t worry about that.” Jurina couldn’t help but chuckle at Yuki’s sudden scare about money. With Yuki the subject of conversation would somehow make its way toward money, she was always desperate to make sure that they never spent more than they had to. So the moment Jurina pulled out a jangling purse out from her kimono Yuki let out an unbelievably large sigh of relief.

“Oh thank god for that…” Yuki grabbed onto Jurina’s arms and then pulled her in for a tight embrace, ignoring all the blood that was splattered across Jurina’s kimono. At the very moment they separated she went on to ask. “So how did you manage to get such a thing and eat so much at the same time?”

“Well you see…” Jurina began to timidly wander away from Yuki and the bodies sprawled across the ground, heading west out of the town towards the setting sun in order to hide the blushes on her face with the light from the sun. She then made sure that Yuki was close enough to hear before continuing on with her tale.

“The real reason for me wanting to visit this town was because of this necklace. There was this new eatery opening and as a startup event they were holding an eating competition and the prize for winning was this pearl.” Jurina pointed at the sphere in between her fingers.

“So that’s why you ended up eating so much that you made yourself sick.” There was a slight embarrassed nod from Jurina before she got back to her story.

“I had to win this for you no matter what since I was never going to be able to afford buying such a thing for you. Especially since you’re always so tight and stingy about buying things but did you know this black pearl is so rare that it literally cost the owner of the owner of the place an arm and leg to buy it from someone!” Suddenly Yuki grabbed Jurina’s arm and forced her to face her in the middle of the quiet tracks.

“You know Jurina I appreciate your effort and all but what’s the point of a present for me just staying in your hand?” Jurina’s face instantaneously flared up as she realized that the pearl was still firmly held in her palm.

“Ah! I’m really sorry Yuki!” The younger girl immediately dashed around the back of the older girl and held the necklace by the two silver ends. She then nervously lowered it around Yuki’s neck and the coiled the ends together so that the pearl sat gently below Yuki’s neck. “Here that should be better.”

“Nuh uh.” Yuki shook her head from side to side while still facing away from Jurina.

“Eh? So what else is the problem?” A confused Jurina’s head tilted down to the side so that she could lean over and look Yuki in the eye as she asked the question.

“I still haven’t said thank you.” With that Yuki turned her head around and placed a gentle gracious peck on the stunned lips of Jurina. Yuki’s gratitude for the younger girl’s present obvious from the depth of kiss and the amount of time they just stood there in perfect contact with each other.

Eventually Yuki separated herself from Jurina before the initial shock on the younger girl wore out and she began trying to answer to the kiss.

“I’m sure you enjoyed that but I just want to warn you don’t expect to make a habit of this.” Yuki turned her head away from Jurina and began twiddling on her brand new accessory.

“Here I was thinking that you’d forgotten about my birthday…” Quietly keeping her mumbles to herself Yuki turned her face back to Jurina and gave her a beautifully sincere smile. “Thanks Jurina… It really is a beautiful thing.”

“No problem.” Jurina cheerfully chimed as she leapt onto Yuki and wrapped her arms around her shoulder.

“I mean I’m happy as long as you are Yuki. Plus it also helps that I got to eat a lot of nice food and Yukirin gave me an extra special present to me.” Before Jurina could tighten her grip around Yuki, the older girl pushed her away.

“You also went on a rampage and got yourself completely covered in blood so unless you can get some of it cleaned you’re not going to be clinging onto me.” Yuki playfully gave Jurina a smile causing the other girl to sulk a little.

“Eh? Why not?” The whining Jurina formed a pout with her lips and then crossed her arms. In response to this Yuki just looked up at the orange sky and spoke out of the corner of her mouth.

“You know that I’ll have to thank you if you do what I ask you right?” The older girl continued to look away while Jurina slowly processed what Yuki just said and realized what it was hinting at.

“Sure no problem!” Excited by the prospect of another ‘thank you’, Jurina immediately rushed back in toward the town. “I’ll go find somewhere to clean these!”

“Wait Jurina! Stop rushing off…”

quoting my another important comment from AKBlasphemy (fixed version) :

Okay, as promised, my quite lengthy comment~

It’s not gonna be in order, the thoughts I mean, but I’ll try my best to sort them out and write them in as nice way as possible >_<

I really wanna read more about Rena-sama, her personality is still a question to me and I am really curious if she’s as good at fighting as Jurina >_< Her love for melon pans is expressed here through Juju and also, her birthday in this fic appeared on my B-day~!! A nice coincidence~ *tries to think positively and be optimistic about Rena-sama being alive)

Yuki is quite the calm type or that's how it looks so far..but yeah, her wanting to save money is another story… I really dun have a clear image of her as of yet…

Whilst Jurina… Wah, she is so cool, and cute and awesome and…so on :D I mean, the way she's fighting with those men…. It's like she's indifferent to all blood spilling… Keeping her cool and just killing them off easily….Maybe she just wants to give that kind of an image that's she's indifferent about it… But there must be a reason on why she's so…cold/cool?..

And then her slightly cute side and carefree attitude about money and when running to get melon pans for Rena-sama~ Or when Yuki kissed her lightly~

Which makes me squeal about the kiss scene…I read it so many times oredi, no matter it being short~ It just really made me squeal  :inlove:

Wah, this fic is my guilty pleasure and I really want to read the next chapter oredi~ I hope you will update it until Christmas comes ( ̄~ ̄;)

Well, not a very long comment but meh, I just said what's on my mind… (it's quite lengthy..  :nervous )

Which makes me think about that shady lady that appeared in the previous chapter~ It must be Mayu then, nee? or maybe someone else? (゜-゜) Wah, so curious where this fic is going to head… Wanna read the update oredi~

Well, I just have to wait patiently, hopefully you'll update it before I die out of curiosity (~_~;)

Enough with my ramblings, have to go and try right that fight scene… Ah, I should be focusing on Japanese lecture but it's boring…. OTL or maybe I should write that YukiMina scene? Wait, u have no idea what I am talking about… <<"

Um, yeah, I'm off then~ was nice reading this four times~ might read once again, cuz of obvious reason… THIS IS JUST PURELY OSAM~
