Utah's inspiration for "Rain Man" passes away
« on: December 23, 2009, 09:16:21 AM »
SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - ABC 4 News has confirmed that Kim Peek passed away this weekend at age 58 after experiencing cardiac arrest.

Peek gained national and international attention after the movie "Rain Man" premiered.

The character portrayed by Dustin Hoffman was based, in large part, on Peek.

Due to an unusual medical condition present at birth, Peek was able to memorize and recite vast amounts of information on a wide array of topics.

After the movie's release, Peek was a much sought after public speaker, addressing millions of people.

He is survived by his loving father and tireless traveling companion, Fran.

The two, it has often been said, "shared the same shadow."

Funeral arrangements are pending.

ABC 4 will have much more on this developing and immensely sad story.
