Boy Scout returns purse with nearly $2,000
« on: December 17, 2009, 01:14:36 PM »
GREENSBORO, N.C. - An 11-year-old North Carolina boy has found and returned a stolen purse with nearly $2,000 inside.

The News & Record of Greensboro reported Wednesday that Edward Myers and his siblings were helping neighbors plant trees in a Greensboro park when he spotted a purse on the creek bank. The Boy Scout and his mother called the police, and the purse's owner showed up to collect.

The owner told police her car was broken into on Thanksgiving. Police said the thief took $30 out of the main billfold but missed $1,900 in another compartment before flinging the purse into the creek.

The owner rewarded Edward with one of the $100 bills. He gave $40 of it to his mother and spent the other $60 on a Carolina Panthers jersey.

Ah the innocence of youth. Sounds like a credit to his upbringing that he should do such a thing. And to give even split the reward, it's nice to know decency still exists.

What an absolute moron

Cheapskate, only giving $100 of a returned $2,000   , 1/4 might of been decent and YES, it's what I would of done if I lost $2,000

Hey, if someone gave me a $100 tip for ANYTHING I'd have NO right to call them a cheapskate.  What would be appropriate to NOT be called a cheapskate?

^ For real! $100 is a lot of money. How greedy do you have to be to complain about not getting enough FREE MONEY for doing something you should have done anyway?

As someone who has lost $1,000 in cash while shopping...if someone, kid or anyone actually returned it to me, I would of gladly given them half, the rest I could happily live on till next pay day, I'd atleast have something, not nothing like I did.

And yeah, I left notices, in newspaper even phoned the radio station and they played my request that if anyone finds $1,000 if they could turn it into the radio station for a substantial reward. Sadly no one called, no one turned it into mall security, and someone had one hell of a find that day at the mall. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

^^ That's cuz you live in Manitoba.  Does that mean that if YOU were to return someone else's lost wallet with that much money, you would EXPECT to get half?  You would ensure that you got half first before you even returned it to the rightful owner?  Look at it from both sides.  Other people would just DO the right thing, which is what Boy Scouts is about.  Teaching you to be helpful and doing what's right, only because its right.  If I don't go to jail because I didn't commit a crime, I don't expect a reward.  However if I lose something of mine of value, I don't expect people to do the right thing.  But if someone DOES choose to return it to me if they find it, I'm gonna hook them up with a thank you somehow.

if i find a wallet with money that has no name or number to call... that would be an extraordinary day :D but if there is a contact number i'm afraid i would ask him to pick his shit on my place (if he doesn't then is all happy happy)
