Seeing as how it's made national (and apparently international) news, not to mention scoring some airtime on TMZ's TV show, figured it'd be fine to put here.
The event described in the following article apparently took place at a pep rally held last week at Churchill High School in Peg Sheety (i.e. in Winnipeg, where I, JFC live). Churchill H.S. is a school with students ranging from Gr.6 to 12 (i.e. 11-18 years of age). Now before anyone else asks, YES I have worked there, and NO I do not personally know the teachers involved.
One of Two Teachers in Pep Rally Lap Dance Video Identified
Feb. 24, 2010 at 11:50 am CDT
One of the two teachers at the center of the pep rally lap dance controversy at Churchill High School has been identified.
According to the Globe and Mail, gym teacher Chrystie Fitchner, shown sitting in the chair above receiving a lap dance from a male teacher, is one of the parties involved in the controversy. In the video, the pair act out several lude acts, including the simulation of oral sex.
Both teachers have been suspended with pay while the incident gets worldwide attention.
Having been already picked up by Fox News and the New York Daily News, we spoke to a TMZ producer this morning who told us the video may appear on their show tonight.
We called Ms. Fitchner for comment, but haven’t heard back.

Someone apparently was able to identify and find a portrait pic of the female teacher in the video (i.e. the one getting the lap dance).

Now the HiPster/perv in me can't help but laugh at this. However as a teacher myself, I find it disturbing, if not outright stupid. As teachers, we're supposed to be setting examples of good/proper behavior for our students. Even if it was meant in fun, this sort of conduct is not what we as teachers and what we as adults should be showing them. We're supposed to be encouraging them to grow up to be smart, productive, responsible members of society. I don't have a clip of it, but on the local news tonight, there were some students from Churchill H.S. who were interviewed about this. One young boy (13 or 14 by the looks of it) said how he considered it to be totally inappropriate, stating basically that if THAT was how teachers were willing to conduct themselves in front of their students, then everything that they tell and have told students regarding "proper behavior" was completely hypocritical and therefore meant nothing.
There are already calls by outraged parents as well as by some higher-ups within the division for the teachers to be suspended indefinitely, if not outright fired. While I personally agree that the 2 teachers involved exercised very, very, VERY poor judgement here, I think losing their jobs is a bit excessive. IMO, they should both be made to make a public apology for their stupidity, and possibly have to do some public speaking type thing where they talk to kids from other schools about knowing when to draw the line.
