Play Different Region Code DVD on Computer
« on: August 27, 2007, 12:57:27 AM »
Hey... im planning to buy the Eizou of Morning Musume and Single V of Abe Natsumi DVD

i want to burn an extra copy of it so i won't scratch the original one...but my computer dvd drive is region code 1 and i don't want to change the region code because there is a limit to changing it and i have also saw a program on the internet that i can install and it will play all region code dvds. but i have also read the comments on the program and one of it said that when the program was uninstalled, the DVD drive isn't read and the commenter said the he/she had to do something in the registry to fix it which i don't know...

There's a thread for such questions:
http://forum.jphip.com/index.php?topic=2392.0
Also, if you know there's a tool that you're unsure about, why can't you just post the name?

What is your DVD drive brand and model number?
Chances are you can get region free firmware for your drive and you won't have to worry about the limited number of changes.

I had an old DVD-RW that I kept region 1, and the new DVD-RW I set to region 2.  If all you plan on doing is playing the DVDs, you can get a DVD-ROM drive for dirt cheap and set it to whatever region you want. <3

There are programs like DVD43, anydvd (is it legal to post their names? without links yes, yes? at least in Germany afaik) which are faking the region code, removing css protection and other stuff.
They are just not legal in all countries. I don't have any bad experience with them so far.
I don't need them for region stuff (Europe has 2, too) but the copy protections lets MPC freeze when I want to watch them  :tama-mad:
Like it's been said already, flashing the firmware is also rather easy with a lot of dvd drive versions. Just google it.

AnyDVD does the trick.

Alternatively, if you play the DVD with VLC Media Player, it will play it without checking the region code (at least mine does).

They are just not legal in all countries.

It's not illegal to use a region-free player or hack a dvd player to make it region free.*
DVD Regions were created by the movie industry as a way of limiting which country a disc can be sold to.  The movie industry can't make laws, it's a technological limitation not a legal one.  People have even suggested that having different regions is illegal because it violates free trade agreements.

*May not be true in some countries because some countries have really stupid laws!

AnyDVD does the trick.

AnyDVD is ALL you need. Take a look here if you want to know exactly waht it does: http://www.slysoft.com/pt/anydvd.html
The program hardly uses any hardware, so you can install it without any concerns.

And if you don't want to BUY it, you can just download it with a crack. Not legal, sure, but if you want to be sure if this is the thing you want before cashing out 49 bucks I'd say it's a good thing.

I use DVD43, its freeware, and works without a problem.

AnyDVD is ALL you need.
There are (have been?) DVD-drives that actually check the region code in firmware and block the access to the disk, those you will need a new version for before even AnyDVD can be usefull.

Me: also not needing it, have multiregion DVD-players to do the dirty work :)

In case AnyDVD doesn't work, you can use DVD Decrypter to back it up to your hard drive. Without any protections.
After that, you'd do one of the 2:
1. Burn it to a DVD
2. Watch from your computer

A few things:

1) I live in Hawaii.

2) I also use AnyDVD and consider it an invaluable PC component.

3) Party at Toma Karaoke this Friday evening!  Be there.  Aloha.

You are right, that is not illegal. What is illegal is if you live in the USA and try to circumvent copy-protection features. But since what you want is to be able to play the DVD, there is nothing wrong with enabling your machine to do so.

Yeah, VLC seems to not care.
