LOL I know that I have a series on-going (that I haven’t updated in a while), but I felt totally inspired by the fucking AWESOME of the Furukawa family. So I decided to write a one-shot. A very snarky one-shot. Possibly the snarkiest thing I've ever written, and that's saying something.
Premise: Rena-san has married Airi, entering the Furukawa household, and interacts with the extremely kooky family members.
—————————————————————————-
When Matsui Rena married into the Furukawa family, she didn’t know very much about it. The main thing was that she and Airi were in love, had been for years, and Airi had finally asked, against every expectation.
The office pool at SKE had the bets at 10000:1 that Airi would ever pop the question, given her personality (more M than the candy-covered chocolate that does melt in your hand, stupid false advertising) and well… Rena’s willingness to take the lead. Nishishi had started the betting pool 5 years ago, and everyone from Horaa-san to Yuasa-san to Ego-chan was so confident of this that they’d even allowed Rena into the pool in spite of her insider information. Well, if Nishishi was being honest, they’d had to let her in because she was the only one at all who was willing to take the opposite side (except for Masana, Haramina and Kinchan who were bribed into it with ice cream by an offended Airi).
So when Airi had stumbled over her words, unable to look Rena in the eye and held out the ring, she’d said yes. Blushingly, after squealing with surprise and delight, holding Airi close to her against the backdrop of the Aichi sky line, that beautiful, simple and understated ring on her left hand glittering in the darkness.
It was only when she’d looked at it more closely afterwards that she realised that Airi had inscribed, “I loveplusplus you more than eroge forever” on the underside. Well, that was some amazing promise given the person involved.
Despite having dated forever, Airi still called her “Rena-san”. Excepting several private situations that she’d never talk about involving orders, leather and cuffs, of course. She coughed. Well, given that they were now married, she hoped that Airi would finally make the jump to calling her “Rena”.
———————————————————————
The first time Rena stepped into the Furukawa home was on their first night as a married couple. Since she’d refused to visit Airi’s house to “ensure that there were some things about Airi that would remain unknown”, the sense of excitement built as she held Airi’s hand, walking together shyly across the threshold.
“Uh, Rena-san, my family’s kinda just vacated the place tonight for us..” Airi started, embarrassed, before Rena jumped in with “Rena”, squeezing Airi’s hand.
“Wh-what?” Airi looked at her, confused.
“Now that we’re married, the least you could do is call me by my name,” Rena quirked her eyebrow, almost enjoying the look of discomfort on Airi’s face.
“Oh. Uh. Um.” Airi focussed, breathing hard to calm herself, a pinched look between her eyes.
“Rena.” she finally forced out.
“Now, make sure you stick to it.” Rena grinned almost sadistically, following Airi through to her bedroom.

Closing the door behind her, Airi stopped in her tracks, stunned, bumping into a similarly immobile Rena.
“Wh…what… the…” Airi stuttered, her face burning.
It looked like the Furukawa family had gone all out. Apart from decking the furnishings with red and pink hearts, there was a banner that read, “GOOD JOB AIRI >.-” and a pile of books and pamphlets on “what to do on the wedding night” piled up on the dresser.
“Jesus Christ on a..” Airi muttered, holding her head in her arms as Rena giggled, pulling Airi into a hug.
“It’s not so bad, at least I know that they approve of me,” Rena blushed, petting her on the head as Airi completed her litany of curses.
“I…I guess…” Airi finally looked up at Rena, her frown relaxing into a smile.
“They even got rid of those cursed frogs. I’m not sure I could’ve slept here tonight with those creepy things watching us..” Rena consoled.
Airi looked around, panicking at Rena’s words. ”Edgar!” she inhaled, starting to flip over cushions and pillows as Rena tugged on her hand.
“Look Airi,” she pointed to the note pinned to the mirror.
“Your frogs are in Ani-rin’s room tonight. Make sure you move them back before he gets home tomorrow” was written succinctly, and signed off “Christine”.
As Airi relaxed, sighing, she looked at Rena, slightly amused, saying, “I don’t even know when she adopted that name, seriously. And no one calls her that except on google+..”
Airi’s ramble was interrupted as Rena stepped forwards, pulling Airi towards her and the bed.

The next morning, Airi and Rena dressed, shyly holding hands and sneaking glances as they walked out for breakfast.
“Ah! Rena-chan! Airi! Good morning!” Airi’s mom called out cheerfully as she set the table.
“Good morning… Furukawa-san,” Rena blushed uncertainly.
“Oh, just call me Christine,” Airi’s mom winked. “Or even better, Mom.”
“Ah-yes.” Rena nodded. “Christine-okaasan”.
“Mooooooooooooooooooom” Airi whined, glaring.
“What? It’s great that you finally brought her into the household… now I’ve got the daughter I always wanted!” her mom clasped her hands, sighing dramatically with joy.
“You already have a daughter!” Airi grumbled indignantly.
“You? All your habits you adopted from your dad and brother…” Mama-rin sighed again.
“…speaking of which, where are those 2?” Airi looked at the empty spots at the table.
“They’re behind the pillar over there arguing about how to talk to Rena-chan here without saying anything wrong…” mama-rin rolled her eyes.
“Oy you two! Breakfast!” she called, petting Rena on her head as she sat down next to her.
Sheepishly, ani-rin and papa-rin trundled in from the kitchen, their eyes anywhere but on the newlyweds. “Go..good mornin’” they mumbled, directing their gazes towards the food. ”Itadakimasu!” they said in unison, before mama-rin smacked them across the head.
“Can’t you acknowledge them first before the meal? It’s only polite! Jeez, you two..” she scolded, as Rena hid her giggle behind her hand.
“Ah.. ah… welcome, Rena-san.” Ani-rin spoke first, bowing his head.
“Rena will do,” she smiled, nodding her head politely.
“We’re honoured to have you join our family, Rena-san” Ani-rin bobbed his head back, almost seeming to ignore what she had said about honorifics.
“Yeah, it’s *cough* good…” papa-rin growled, his eyes averted as the awkwardness grew.
“Say, papa, I just rewatched gundam the other week,” Airi looked at Papa-rin, grinning.
His eyes lit up. “Oho? Which series?” he grinned widely, looking at Ani-rin, who had suddenly sat up straight too.
“Well, to be honest, I was going to go with SEED but in the end…” Airi started, before Mama-rin sighed loudly.
“You see what I mean, Rena-chan?” she looked imploringly at Rena, as Airi, Ani-rin and Papa-rin looked away, embarrassed. ”This one wears skirts but inside..” she sighed again.
“Mama!” Airi cried indignantly.
“We heard that Rena-chan also likes Gundam you know!” Ani-rin protested.
“But her favourite series is Honey and Clover!” Mama-rin rebutted, angrily. ”That’s a girly series! You three wouldn’t touch that!”
“Uh… Yeah…” Rena appeared confused, her chopsticks in mid-air, unknowingly caught between both sides as Airi took her hand, smiling gently at her as the other members of the Furukawa household bickered at each other, teasing and handing food around.
“Hey, maybe we can all go to winter comike this year,” Papa-rin smiled, slightly creepily wiping at the side of his mouth.
“I can see you imagining the cosplay skirts, cut it out,” Mama-rin chided.
Ani-rin looked up at Airi. “I’m not gonna recruit the gang to get your 88 doujin books again,” he said resolutely.
“What if I have work?!” Airi groaned, pleadingly.
“Take time off,” Ani-rin growled.
“…” Airi paused for a moment. “Okay, I will. But since I have to, everyone has to do it too, and we can all cosplay as one big family!” she grinned, her eyes shining as she imagined the various outfits she would be designing for the great family outing.
The rest of them visibly sagged, as papa-rin shot Rena a look. ”Welcome to the family, Rena-chan.”
