Chapter 4
Cyborg heard the job was done as she saw another report came to her through the printer. Her eyes scanned through the clutter and sighed at the lack of a target. She glanced up at the clock noting it had been a whole day had passed without any command coming from her. Her workers were away from the floor only leaving the two isolated in their pods. She pressed the button staring at the red light that was turned on.
“Yuki-san, are you there?”
“I’m here…” He replied rubbing his eyes after staring at the monitor for the fifth hour straight.
“Do you have something we can talk about?”
There was a silence between the two. Cyborg could hear the breathing from the man as she stared at the night sky in one of the cameras. She began to wonder why she would bring him in and then a grunt.
“It’s really nothing but I want to hear your story.” He replied when she pressed the button to send the report over to him.
“My story isn’t as tragic but I want to get my revenge.” Cyborg closed the monitors and sat in the darkness of the room.
She closed her eyes remembering back to the day as it imprinted her mind to only go forward and destroy the fabric of the government. There were many people who seemed to understand that it was normal. To Cyborg, it meant war when the voice awoke her from her meditation.
“What about love?” He asked feeling the stinging in her heart hearing such a word. Cyborg regretted not having to have somebody to be close with before the incident. There was no way she could ever accept or give out any in her current state.
“It has no existence…” She said pressing the button again. “I will live alone.”
Yuki felt his heart wanting to say everything about the word especially Rena in her final moments. He could hear the tone coming from her and nodding in acknowledgment he couldn’t break through to her. He pressed the button and moved up to the mic.
“Good night!” He greeted as that was the final words she had heard before walking over to the cot she had set up for herself in case of anything. Time was no factor to her as she pondered over the scenery and held her pillow near her head as she dozed off.
Yuki opened the pod to the empty work floor. The recycled air blew in like a strong breeze as he walked back to the room where he sat before the assignment and took a seat staring at the white wall. He started to remember his code name was Black and drew out the character to black on his hand. He placed his head on the table as a shadow came across his vision instantly shooting up in his seat. The chair across of him was moved as the eyes were only visible feeling a hand reach across to grab his.
“Who are you?” He asked feeling the chill run down his spine.
The person didn’t answer with the soft lips touching. He mellowed into the action before pulling back remembering his wife. Black escaped the room feeling out the walls before pressing the button and rushing back to his pod touching his lips seeing the rose-colored lipstick on his fingers. He dropped to his knees regretfully apologizing to his wife. He heard the machine again and looked at the report before sending it off to Cyborg. A loud voice broke his concentration, as he set his sight on the camera in the heart of Tokyo’s red light district.
A man was stumbling out onto the street when he passed by a pair of scantily dressed women when the two fought off his advances, he tumbled into the streets where the car ran over his body. Black closed his eyes before turning off the monitor and turned to the button.
“Cyborg, are you up?”
“I just saw it myself.” She confirmed with a tired tone in her voice.
“Are you going back to sleep?” Black asked letting out a yawn into the room.
“Maybe not but what were you doing outside the pod?”
Black smiled at the question. “I needed to stretch out my legs.”
“Sigh… Next time tell me because I need to make sure the security alarm is off.”
“Okay, I’ll tell you the next time.”
Black sat back in his seat closing his eyes with the image of the guy being crushed by the car still fresh in his mind. He smelled the air of the area before a cough awoken his spirits.
“There’s a door to the left of you.” She said as Black walked over opening the door to a tunnel with bright fluorescent lights lining it. The path was filled with cold air filtering past her within the cement walls. He finally got to a metal door and knocked three time before it opened up to another dark path but the light was dim as he closed the door behind him.
“I’m in the next room.” The voice announced as he proceeded toward the door opening to a sky blue room seeing the woman in a white pajama set.
“I see someone had gotten in a kiss.” She smiled.
“Whoever it was, she was quick about going for me.” Black explained as Cyborg handed him a cup of tea.
“You asked about love and I never really saw anyone so I never tried after my father’s death.” The woman sipped her tea seeing him gulping a bit of the liquid down his acrid throat.
“I always wanted to live with Rena since I met her. She made everything different for me.”
“Before you continue, I called you here so you can sleep. We only have a few minutes before it works.” Cyborg explained when the effects started to kick in on both of them.
“I wish one day you’ll feel it too.” He smiled before dragging over to the cot and diving into it as she followed to the large bed and closed her eyes for the night.
