Chapter 1It was a lovely morning in the kingdom. The sun shines the coast of Nusantara, the twittering of birds in the morning from the mangrove forest that surrounds the coast line, the sound of the waves clashing to the beach and a bright sky across the landscape. The citizen of Nusantara started their daily activities in various places across the country already. The fusses of people trading in the market, the sound of hooves stepping on the ground, the clinging of cash. Pretty much, a normal day for Nusantara citizen.
Meanwhile in the royal palace of Nusantara, the princesses woke up from their sleep, ready for their daily activities of studies, royal visit, and many more. The five princess shared a big massive bed room with five king sized bed and wardrobes of clothes that filled with many brands. The wooden floors are so shiny that you can see your own reflection there, on top of it some carpets in different shapes for each princess.
Melody was the first to wake up. As the eldest, she has a responsibility to show good examples of for her sisters. She did her homework on time, she drank her tea politely when it was tea time, spoke gently and politely when attending royal meetings and many more.
She looked around the room, her young sisters are still snoozing on their bed. Melody sighed, her sisters are still kids after all and she knows how much kids love their beds in the morning. She got out of bed and skipped across the room, towards a big window that still curtained. She grabbed each side of the curtain and yanked it open, sending flashes of sun shines into the bed room. Too much lights in the room made the younger princesses pinching their eyes and start to pulled up their blankets to cover their head.
“Aaaaggghhh, too much lights!!” groaned Ikey and Tasya. Both of the princess kept their eyes shutted because of the morning lights that blazed in to the room, filling it with lights.
“Sist..” moaned Ve while covering her eyes with her hands. She sat up on her bed but still got her legs covered with blankets. Melody sighed and shook her head towards her sisters.
“Come on, girls! It’s already morning, we’ve got activities to do. We are princesses aren’t we? Other people across the country is probably doing their jobs now. Just because we are princesses, it doesn’t mean that we can always laying around like this..” said Melody with her hands crossed. Tasya rolled her eyes, she’s already used to the big princess.
“You’re to speak, Melody. Look at Nabilah! She’s still cuddling her pillows there!” complained Tasya. She pointed her index finger towards the youngest princess. Melody turned her look towards it.
Yep, Nabilah was still snoozing softly on her bed. The little girl was wearing her PJs and covered herself with a nice fluffy blanket. Sleeping beside the young princess, a white fluffy cat was sleeping peacefully.
The white cat has nice furs covering it’s body and a big round eyes that seems to glitters every time lights shines it. The cat’s two front legs each had a metal ring, the king said not to take the rings off it’s legs. Once some servants did and ended up getting herself various scratches from the cat. It was said that the cat has been around for ages, that was known when Nabilah asked her father about the cat.
“Dad, how old is this cat actually?” asked Nabilah to her father on one sunny morning.
“I don’t know, love. That cat has been a royal pet since ages before I was born.” said the King while stroking the furs of the cat. The cat enjoys it every time someone stroked it’s furs especially beside her ears, the weakest spot of the cat. If someone strokes it there, the cat would produce some kind of moaning noise of a cat.
Anyway, back to the morning..
Melody shook her head, always the same girl that woke up last every morning. Then, the eldest princess walked towards the sleeping girl. While she walked , Melody started telling her sisters to take their baths and get ready for the activities. Her siblings lazily get off their beds and started making their ways to the bathroom. Once they’re gone, Melody sat beside Nabilah’s bed and started stroking Nabilah’s hair while whispering to the little girl’s ear.
“Come on wake up, Nabilah..” whispered Melody softly to Nabilah’s ears. She gently shook the little girl’s body to wake her up, but the little girl still slept tightly. The cat seems to be much more sensitive than it’s owner, it gives a little purring noise before rolled over on her back and opened it’s big round eyes.
“Good morning Nyan-nyan..” Greeted Melody warmly to the cat. Of course everyone in the palace knows the cat, the royal pet that has been around for a long time. No one knows who gave the name first, but it seems like this cat deserves it, since the cat likes to make noises that sounds like her name, Nyan-nyan.
Nyan-nyan gave Melody a nice “meow” as a reply and jumped off the bed. The cat then ran out of the room. Usually she goes to the kitchen to get her breakfast. Melody smiled as the cat flees, who can’t resist it?
“Enghh.~” groaned Nabilah. The little princess seemed to have woken up, but she’s still snuggling her teddy bear while one of her hands covered her eyes.
“Rise and shine, Nabilah!” greeted Melody to her youngest sister after she glanced back to her.
“Well, she’s up now..” thought Melody.
Nabilah groaned again while trying to pull up her blankets, but unfortunately Melody pulled the blanket down already before Nabilah can touched it.
“Come on wake up, Nabilah. We’ve got activities to do..” said Melody softly to the little girl’s ear. And slowly, Nabilah opened her eyes. The brown iris seems to sparkled thanks to the morning lights, making her looks like a sleepy kitten.
“Enghh..~ Melody, what time is it?” asked Nabilah. Her soft voice echoes in the empty quite room.
“It’s eight in the morning, my dear.. Come on, we’ve got lessons at nine. You have to get some breakfast soon, I think I can smell the fried rice from here.” Grinned Melody. Nabilah’s eyebrows went up, she loves fried rice after all. She then sat up on her bed and looked around.
“Where’s Nyan-nyan? Ve? Ikey? And Tasya? Where are they?” asked Nabilah looking around the room, confused.
“Nyan-nyan seems to already gone down to the dining room by herself before you woke up. While others are still in the bathroom.” Explained Melody while stroking Nabilah’s hair. Nabilah nodded, understandingly. She then walked out of her bed towards the bathroom followed by Melody.
After the princesses had their bath time, they dressed them self. After that, they went down to the dining room for breakfast. The royal dining room was enormous, the room itself was bigger than the princess’s bedroom. The walls were painted with classic batik pattern and an enormous golden plate was sticking as the room’s sky. In the middle were big table with lot’s of elegant wooden carved chairs. Setted on the tables were various plates of dishes, one of them has a complete set of fried rice with the big enormous poached egg on top of the rice.
Nabilah’s stomach grumbled and burst in to her chairs while her other sisters smiled at each other as if this is a usual routine and walked to their chairs. Nabilah sat on her chair while a maid starts to serve her. The maid has a chubby cheeks and a long hair that was tangled into a bun. She was dressed in a black and white maid outfit and smiled to Nabilah as she started pouring warm milk into Nabilah’s glass.
“Good morning, your highness..” greeted the maid. The maid herself was still young, around 16 or so. She’s been chosen as a royal maid since Nabilah was five years old, and she was assigned to taking care of the little princess since then.
“Good morning, Sonya!” greeted Nabilah back to the maid. She sat on her dining chair and drank her glass of milk quickly and when it’s empty, she put her glass down.
“The milk is sooo delicious, Sonya!” exclaimed Nabilah happily without realizing that she earned herself a milk mustache on her face. Sonya forced back her giggles seeing that and spoke smilingly to the princess.
“Your highness, you’ve got milk moustache there..”
“Eeh? Really?” asked Nabilah grabbing her handkerchief and wiped her mouths with it. Sonya smiled politely to the princess’s act.
“It’s gone now, Your Highness..” said Sonya. Nabilah grinned at her.
“Thanks.”
“You are welcome, Your highness..” bowed Sonya.
“May I please have my breakfast, Sonya?” asked Nabilah politely. Well, in Nusantara politeness was number one rule. No matter which statuses involved, politeness to each other is number one. The princesses were taught about the rule and they have now gotten used to say “please”, “thank you”, and many more to anyone. Even to the maids.
“Yes you may, Princess.. What would you like?” Answered Sonya politely too.
“I can smell it, Sonya. You know what I want..” said Nabilah happily. Sonya nodded and left her. A minute later, she came back with a big plate of fried rice with a nicely poached egg on top. She placed it down in front of Nabilah. The steaming fried rice complete with the poached egg made Nabilah’s stomach grumbled. The scent of the spices and eggs blended in the fried rice, successfully made Nabilah swallowed her own saliva.
“Thank you, Sonya. And… Ittadakimasu!” said Nabilah. She grabbed her spoon an start to dig in her breakfast.
A few minutes later, Nabilah leaned back on her chair. Her stomach is now satisfied. Sonya took the plate and head down to the kitchen. Nabilah looked around her sisters are still sitting down in the dining room. Melody was sipping her tea, Ve was spooning her porridge, Dhike buttering her roll, and Tasya nibbling on her cinnamon roll. Pretty much it’s still taking time for them to finish.
Nabilah was bored. She stood up and excused herself out. She head down to the royal garden.
The royal garden is a big garden with bushes of different type of plant scattered in it. Nabilah sat down on one of the stone benches there and picked some blueberry from a blueberry bush nearby. She took her bites out of the sweet berry while enjoying the morning sky.
Suddenly she heard a sound from the bushes and suddenly she heard a voice.
“Long time we haven’t seen each other, Takamina..”Nabilah jolt up. The voice sounded soft and soothing, she looked around to find the source of the voice but the whole royal garden was empty except for herself.
She inspect the bushes and she peeked behind one of the bushes and she saw Nyan-nyan standing near the fountain. The cat stood there and looked up on the fountain. There stood a fully grown eagle. The eagle was huge and it’s eyes were deep brown. Nabilah was about to shoo the eagle away before she stopped and saw Nyan-nyan opened her mouth as if she was speaking to the eagle.
When that happened, she heard the voice again.
“Listen, it’s not your fault okay? Acchan did it to..”The voice was cut off by the eagle’s squawk as if the eagle was pissed about Nyan-nyan’s words.
“I know how you feel okay? Yuko was also..”Yuko? Who is that? Thought Nabilah. Suddenly Nyan-nyan jolted and looked around as if she can hear Nabilah’s thought. She looked around and saw the princess stood there, staring at her. The eagle saw Nabilah too and tilt it’s head as if to say “see you later” to her before it flew away the garden.
Nabilah stood there staring at her cat in disbelieves, the cat did the same. Before she can break the silence. Someone already done it.
“Your highness, there you are!” exclaimed Sonya as she came approached from Nabilah’s back. Nabilah turn towards her.
“Sonya, I..”
"Your highness, your horse is ready now. The others are all waiting for you.” Cutted Sonya. Nabilah nodded, she turned back to Nyan-nyan but the cat disappeared.
“Eh? Sonya did you see Nyan-nyan just then?” asked Nabilah to the maid.
“No. I only found you just then, your highness..” replied her. Nabilah looked around and the cat’s nose was not seen.
“Are you looking for something?” asked Sonya to the little princess. Nabilah shrugged.
“Never mind.. Probably just my imagination.” lied Nabilah.
“That is definitely not an imagination” she thought.
Sonya looked doubtful, after all she has taken care of the princess since she was still in the cradle. But she shrugged it off.
“Well..”
“Please escort me to the gate, Sonya.” Asked Nabilah. Sonya smiled.
“Yes, of course..” replied Sonya. Together then they walked across the palace to the gate.
They finally arrived at the gate. The gate was 20 feet tall thick mahogany, placed in the middle of two lookout towers. The guards are all standby waiting for them to escort. Nabilah’s sisters were also there, standing by their horses. The princess ride the horses by themselves of course, they have taken horse riding lessons since they were children.
Nabilah and Sonya approached them. Melody, crossed her hands and shook her head disapprovingly.
“Well, Nabilah.. You did a really good job if you’re trying to make us late for lessons..” spoke Melody. Nabilah kept her head down, but Tasya rolled her eyes.
“Melody, give her a break already! Can’t you see how sorry she is?” said Tasya annoyed. Melody raised her eyebrows and looked at Tasya.
“Don’t you remember who we are?” asked Melody. “We are Princesses of Nusantara, in case you haven’t notice. People look up on us, they follow from us. If you’re always late, other people will become late too!” Said Melody highly. Tasya rolled her eyes again.
“No wonder Ve got headaches..” mumbled Tasya. Melody glared at her. She opened her mouth to answer but was butted by Nabilah.
“Wait! Where’s Ve?” asked Nabilah suddenly, started looking around frantically for her.
“She said that she has a headache. She asked to be absent for today’s lesson.” Replied Melody, still glaring at Tasya. Tasya shrugged as she chewed on dodo,l a sweet nougat in her mouth, completely ignoring Melody.
Ikey while in the other hand was watching seriously the person that was adjusting her horse’s shoe.
“Ghaida, is it alright now..?” asked Ikey bending down beside the repair man.
The man looked up, well it’s a girl actually..
The girl has a short cropped black hair and ellipse eyes. She was wearing a silver armor over her white tunic, a nice leather sandal fitted nicely with the pants. She wore a batik patterned headband and a 3 foot long sword hung by her side.
“Yeah, don’t worry. The straps were close to snapping and it could snap any moment if you didn’t tell me. But it’s fine now, I’ve fixed it.” Said Ghaida smiling at Ikey. Nabilah knew the girl of course.
Ghaida Farisha or Faris was one of the imperial knights of Nusantara and also the daughter of the great General. She was the only girl that manages to reach the rank of imperial knight in the age of fifteen, she set the greatest record of all. She has mastered sword fighting from the greatest teacher of all, Batara Guru who was also the princesses’ teacher. Her brothers were all imperial knights too, so Faris does act her brothers. Boyish and brave. The king who was also the General’s brother trusted Faris to be a lieutenant in the army and also in charge of security for the princesses. Ikey seemed happy to heard the news, because she get to be reunited with Faris who’s also her childhood friend. They used to play together in the royal garden until one day they stopped because Faris decided to be a knight. They both then stopped the routine for almost eight years..
“We should leave now, you know..” said Melody. She started climbing up her saddle and positioned herself comfortably on her horse. Tasya did the same too except she needed some help from her maid to hop on it. Nabilah then started climbing up her saddle.
“I’ll help you, here.” said Sonya. She then pushed up Nabilah until she can pull herself on the mount.
“Thank you, Sonya..” said Nabilah after she positioned herself nicely on her horse. Sonya bowed swiftly to the princess.
Ikey in the other hand needed some assist from Faris. Faris placed her palms on her knees facing upwards while Ikey stepped on it with her hands on her horse. Then Faris pushed her palms upwards, giving some forces for Ikey to climb up her mount. Ikey put her legs over the horse and sat herself nicely on the saddle.
"Thanks..” blushed Ikey. Faris smiled and bowed.
"No worries, your highness..” said Faris while bowing to the princess. She then walked to her horse and mount on it as easily as Melody did.
“Well, shall we leave now, your highnesses?” asked Faris to the pack. Then she turned towards the gate and her horse started walking out of the palace ground and went into the forrest, followed by the princesses and some guards on horses at the back. Reaching Batara Guru’s place takes about fifteen minutes on horse ride and to avoid some Wota going beserk, they use the back gate which led into the forrest. Nabilah waved her hands to Sonya and head off too.
Ve’s POVVe could swear that her head was going to burst out soon.
When she woked up this morning she already felt her headache, she ignored it until it started to hurt more and more. Breakfast was un enjoyable, she couldn’t swallow any of her porridge and her milk tasted so flat somehow as if there’s no flavor. She then decided to excuse herself for today’s lessons and head off to her room because of her headache. Ve got off easily because since she already has health issues since she was little and she was encouraged not to push herself too hard. She asked her maid to send Indy Barens, the healer to her room soon.
Now Ve crouched down in the hallway on the way to her room, her hands were holding her head. The pain in her head was unbearable, as if some forces was banging inside head and burst out her skull in the matter of seconds. She managed to her held her painful scream back and bit her lips hard instead. She tried to stand up, holding on the wall to support her weight. Then she tried to walk again while her hands are still on her head until suddenly the force in her head was so strong and gave the worse pain ever.
Ve fell forward to the ground because of the shock, she managed to opened her eyes and her views started to blurred out. Her ears ringed and her lips that she was biting the whole time, bleed. She can see blurred view of Indy Barens and her maid. Ve couldn’t hear what they said, she closed her eyes and everything turned black..
Ve opened her eyes, she was standing in the throne room. She saw her father and her mother sitting on their throne. The king looked anxious while the queen seemed to be crying.
“Mother..” said Ve. She walked to her mother and crouched down in front of her.
“What happened?” asked Ve. She felt her chest hurt seeing her mother like this. As she tried to touched her mother’s knees, her hands disappeared when she touched the queen.
“What’s happening??” asked Ve panickly. She tried to touched her mother but she just couldn’t. Her hands disappeared every time it touches her mother. Then the queen stood up and walked out of her throne, passing through Ve as if she’s transparent. Ve’s eyes widened and filled with fears.
“Am I.. Am I.. dead..?” asked Ve horrified. "Could the headache that she received so strong that it took my life?" Thought Ve.
She then turned behind her, she could see her teacher, Batara Guru and his wife, Atria, the royal Oracle. The General was also there, standing on the side and also his other brother, the patih, Damian. They all looked serious except for Atria, she looked seriously horrified. She could tell by her expression, the expression was nearly the same as the expression when she announced a tsunami attack to Nusantara, five years ago. Her announcement saved more than 100.000 lives of Nusantara, she was experienced of course. She was the oracle for ages, along with her husband, their knowledge and their powers made them immortal somehow. And yet they don’t age up since a few centuries because of it.
The king was the one to spoke. He looked up.
“So it’s going to fall to my daughters then? That prophecy?” asked the king. Atria nodded rapidly. Batara Guru wrapped his hands around her shoulder to comfort the oracle. His eyes looked up to the king.
“We must tell them before it’s too late, my king..” said Batara Guru.
“We have to tell them about their prophecy..”
“But who released it?!” asked the king. Atria shook her head.
“I don’t know, my king..” said Atria. Tears started to fall on her cheek. “I really don’t know.. I’m sorry..” said Atria. Ve never seen the lady gone like this, she also never heard the oracle’s fawl. As far she lived (which is not very long), Ve adored the lady because of her fawless. They used to spend time together on reading prophecies books in her library at her home.
The general shifted and spoke up.
“We have stop it then. We can prevent it a little.. I’ll send a battalion to guard the entrance” said the General. The mighty General who have led many wars before seem not as confident as he usually was. Atria shook her head.
“No. We can never prevent prophecies.. It always fail..” sniffed Atria. Damian, the patih then spoke up.
“Well, at least we can hold it back until the princesses are ready..” said Damian. “I’ll send some specialized soldiers there.” Said Damian. Damian, the patih, was also the head of Nusantara’s intelligence services and specialized soldiers while the General was the head of the Army, Navy, and air forces.
“We’ll help too..”
Ve turned herself to the source of the voice and so does everybody else. Standing by the door were three ladies. They all looked beautiful and each of them radiates some kind of aura that Ve never felt before.
The one stood in the middle has a short figure about as tall as Nabilah. She wore a black tunic and black pants as well as a pair of black boots. Her long hair was tied into a ponytail and a ribbon was placed on top of it. There were something hanging beside her, Ve then realized that it’s a sheathed five foot long sword.
On her left, a beautiful tall brunette stood. She was wearing sleeveless black tunic, a black stocking that reaches to her tights, a black boots and an aviator jacket was tied around her waist. The brunette’s appearance somehow reminded Ve of a model that runs on catwalks at fashion week in Nusantara. The brunette was wearing some sort of a circular bracelet on each of her wrist, which somehow it looked familiar to Ve.
On the other side, another tall girl stood with her mouth nibbling her finger nails, causing a strange clicking noise to the throne room. This one radiates a wilder aura than the other two, so different than her appearance that seemed weak. The girl was wearing a black jacket over a dress that goes to her tights, continuing to her feet were long black socks and a pair of ankle boots. Ve looked at the girl’s face then, she could see a slender face framed by the girl’s long messy hair.
When she stared the girl in the eye, Ve felt like digging a hole right where she stood and hide in it.
Images flashes in those eyes, horrifying ones. An arrow piecing a body, feathers scattering on a field of blood, fire burning down a house, a crying girl, a beaten up looking horse, then a girl disintegrated to dust and disappeared blown by the wind..
Ve shook her head, the images disappeared. She looked the girl’s face again, the girl smiled terrifyingly with her teeth still nibbling finger nails off.
“Who is she?” thought Ve sacredly. Her heart beats faster than ever after seeing those images and her head started to throbs painfully again, Ve shook away the pain by pressing her palms on the throbings.
“It was our job to protect the coffin after all.” Said the short girl again, she sounded confident.
Ve turned to his father. The king brought two of his palms together and placed them facing each other in front of his mouth, Ve can felt it that her father was trying to think about something carefully.
“We know it is.. But, are you prepared for it? I apologize for my rudeness, if my daughters really are destined for all of this, will it happened like last time?” asked the king. The short girl bit her lips and clenched her fingers as if she was mad about the question. But the tall brunette quickly took over the conversation.
“ We don’t know yet. We’re still trying to figure it out, your highness. But it seems to be a positive that your daughters are part of it.” Said the brunette with a polite tone, followed by nodding movements by Atria.
The king sighed and leaned on his throne while he closed his eyes for a moment. When he opened it again, he asked, “And is it true that one of them has .. What do you call it? Eye of time?..” asked the king again.
“Yes, it’s positive one of them has it.”said a taunting voice. Ve turned towards the voice and found the taunting girl standing behind her. The taunting eyes bore into Ve’s eyes, making her body freeze suddenly.
“Can she actually see me?” asked Ve to herself with her body still freezing.
As if she can hear her voice, the girl grinned to her.
“And she’s right here..” said the girl with a chilling tone. Ve’s eyes widened and before she knew it everything just went black.
To be continued
