Chapter 4
Jurina remembered about the empty room in the club. Being the first time she had been sober for a day, Jurina had picked up the guitar. She had one before she left home but in the rage she had threw against the door. It was nostalgia as she held it like a woman that she had remembered before meeting the band. The tuning seemed simpler than it was before she strummed a few chords before the words seemed to come out like poetry more than a song.
It was the torture of her life at home and when she wrote out her soul into the book. Everything seemed to be chaotic and for the moment it was at peace. Jurina couldn’t explain it but the song made her smile for the first time in a long while that she had felt calm. As she ended the poetry reading, the applause came from the door.
“That was beautiful.” Sae pressed her hands against the bridge of her nose. “You want us to help you?”
“If it’s alright by you?”
The band agreed when Rena pulled up her chair as the rest took to their instruments. Jurina grabbed the tambourine and handed it over to Rena. Her eyes seemed to be gray as she curled her lips when Masana started with the melody followed by the strumming of Jurina. Rena came in with the rhythm as Jurina closed her eyes.
You know, the sun is in your eyes
And hurricanes and rains
and black and cloudy skies.
You're running up and down that hill.
You turn it on and off at will.
There's nothing here to thrill
or bring you down.
And if you've got no other choice
You know you can follow my voice
through the dark turns and noise
of this wicked little town.
Oh Lady, luck has led you here
and they're so twisted up
they'll twist you up. I fear.
the pious, hateful and devout,
you're turning tricks til you're turned out,
the wind so cold it burns,
you're burning out and blowing round.
And if you've got no other choice
you know you can follow my voice
through the dark turns and noise
of this wicked little town.
Rena adding her piece made it perfect as the rest tapped their instruments going with the rhythm of the song. Jurina never had heard the clarity in such a song especially one she had wrote. She wanted to stop at the brief moment but strummed the chords to get the full experience out of the song that she wanted to perfect.
The fates are vicious and they're cruel.
You learn too late you've used two wishes
like a fool
and then you're someone you are not,
and Junction City ain't the spot,
remember Mrs. Lot
and when she turned around.
And if you've got no other choice
You know you can follow my voice
through the dark turns and noise
of this wicked little town.
As Rena continued, Jurina lowered her head fighting off the memories of her past before ending with a strong strum as she removed the guitar and placed it on the stand. She wiped it away as she stared at the band, bowing to them as they moved their heads in unison.
“We have the gig at Nagoya Dome.” Jurina announced as the band crowded around the vocalist. “Yamamoto Sayaka wants to join us too.”
“Sayanee? The Leopards disbanded?” Sae asked when Jurina confirmed the rumor.
“We have her to make this a headliner.” Jurina explained as Sae walked up to her.
“You know we know.” She whispered as Jurina’s eyes stared at Rena.
“I couldn’t pass up on the opportunity. Rena would understand.” Jurina replied as they turned back to the group. “Let’s get the playlist together!”
Jurina and Sae were one in the same. They had many women to turn to and more than others had expected. It wasn’t unusual for them to butt heads at times but in the end, it always came to a non-violent conclusion. The rest of the group knew how it usually would end as long as they didn’t go too far into drinking.
The group continued through the afternoon when a set of bentos came into the studio as Jurina handed it out before taking hers as she saw Rena go into the corner. Jurina walked over and took a seat next to her other vocalist. It wasn’t unusual to see them together but to see Jurina sober was a miracle in itself as she opened her box to the pork bun and two side dishes.
“What did you guys do last night?” Jurina asked before placing the pork bun into her mouth.
“I hung out with Nishi.” She answered promptly. “She was telling me about the manga she was reading.”
“I see. I was hanging out with people and other stuff…” Jurina tailed the end of her sentence as she saw the change in Rena’s expression. “Sorry for not telling you.”
“It’s fine… It isn’t the first time right?”
Jurina turned away and stuffed the last of the bun into her mouth as the dough seemed to dry out her mouth. It was troublesome but she could pass on the issues between them as they started to tune up their instruments before they took the usual mandatory break. Jurina slipped into the back room as she lay on the couch before Rena would come inside and took the spot next to her.
The taste of her lips was unusually sweet as Jurina cupped her face before proceeding to the usual terms of the relationship. Rena’s moans were common as Jurina’s aggressive nature would come out. They would end with the silence with both in each other’s arms with the clothes scattered across the floor as the time came to set up for the stage.
“Ready to go?”
“It wouldn’t be possible without you.” Rena grinned as Jurina walked into the shower to prep up for Juju.
Rena always hid her phone away from the others as Sae came in with the phone in hand. Her heart dropped into her stomach as Sae handed her the phone. As she walked away, Rena could feel it slowly come up her throat before the obstruction disappeared. Rena had the secret from Jurina and Sae with Yuki. She knew the history of Yuki and Sae when they were touring but Yuki had grown fond of Rena after the relationship between them went sour. Rena had used Black as the code name while Yuki used Geki for Rena.
After the show, we can do something. –Black
Can’t… We usually party after the show.
I see. I’m at the lodging next to the venue if you need me. At least to escape the wrath of Jurina.
I should be fine. Make sure Sae doesn’t see you.
She closed her phone as Jurina came out of the shower before Rena took her phone with her to shower off the odor at least for the fans. Rena didn’t like the fact that she had be Ren during the shows but it was something that an opportunity couldn’t allow to happen if the band had sunk without Jurina fronting them.
