A desperate Chinese university student wants to "rent" a girlfriend for 10 days so he can show her off to his parents over the Lunar New Year holiday, state media reported Wednesday.

I'm sure in China too, there are all kinds of services here that will let you 'rent a girl friend'. We've got about 12 pages of them in the phonebook.

O gosh..

by the news like this one & remembering it's already 2007, the 'traditional' way is alive and very well....well, maybe too well, so well it's INGRAIN in the Chinese men's psyche..

come on, how are they going to change if they continue attitudes like this one?? (or maybe they want their family value to always stay 'Confusicus; (sp?)...whatever that means..)

Honestly, $13 USD a day in China isn't a bad wage. I knew a 19 year old girl working as a greeter at a hotel who made 元800 CNY (Chinese Yuan) a month. Yeah, apparently you can be paid monthly. Anyway, $13 USD = roughly 元100 CNY, and for 10 days thats 元1000.

That's more than some prosties make, and this girl might not even partake in the oldest profession.
