Put XIII-2 back in today, cause I promised I would finish it at some point. Didn't realise my last save game was right before the final boss fight  Sorry, I should say fights. 3 of them back to back before you even fight the true end boss. But that last boss fight.....

*SPOILER*

It's ridiculous in many ways. For one, there's 3 enemies to fight, two sub ones and one main one. The idea is you have to kill the two subs before you have any chance of touching the main guy. But here's the thing, they will get revived, meaning you have to kill them again so you can attack the health of the main guy. Anytime you come to fight the main guy he does a cheap and I mean cheap attack at the very start, which is unavoidable, and puts you under so many status effects that there is no choice but to heal yourself immediately, already wasting the limited time you have to attack him. His attacks get stronger the more you bring his health down. It means I pretty much constantly have to have a medic at all times, but they're not strong enough to withstand the attacks. It takes forever to chip away at his health, and every round gets faster until you eventually come to attack him but you spend all your time healing and buffing that suddenly the time is over and you're back fighting one of the sub bosses again. Not only that, and this really annoys me, the main guy has a countdown attack, when it reaches 0, and if you are unprepared (which is hard to do) instant death. Instant. Death. It is absolutely unnecessary in a fight that's so long winded as this. It took me half an hour to get about 75% of his health down and then he goes and does that.

If you die, you either do it again, or revert back to your last savepoint, meaning you have to go through 3 boss battles again before reaching this point.

Worst of all? I'm not even sure it's worth the hassle. I'm getting nothing out of the story and I'd stop caring about the world and the characters long before this happened.

I'm going to beat it. I will beat the game at some point. But right now? Fuck FFXIII-2.

^ wow, that's sounds hard.
I found the Endboss almost too easy, when the three dragons appeard I really thought this is it, I'm done for.
He never managed to kill me, but my group was already very high leveled (maybe even maxed out, I can't remember) so it was a piece of cake.
Can't even remember that he used status effects.
I did him on the first try, something that rarely happens to me in a game, it was almost disaapointing.

FF13-2 really suffered alot in the story department for me  :catglare:. After so much stuff, it seems to me its just pure filler for Square Enix to earn more money.

I thought I was overlevelled! First try?! :o Guess I'm going to have to farm out some more then.

30 mins to take down 75% is insane, your either underleveled or using a wrong tactic/doing something wrong.

Compared to XIII I found XIII-2 really easy, the only battle I got stuck on was the first Caius fight (not the one in the intro, the next one)

OT: I'm looking forward to playing Dark Souls eventually, because I like reading your reports about it, can't wait to find out how I will do in that game XD

Just checked, my Sera is Lvl 79 and Noel Lvl 78. Surely that's enough?! Oh well, guess I could plan paradigms better or something.

OT: You should play Dark Souls!! It's really hard, but in a fair, challenging way that's enjoyable and rewarding to play. Love it. I think you will too. You know who to contact if you're ever stuck! :D

OKAY DOUBLE  POSTING BUT THIS TRAILER FOR LIGHTNING RETURNS

I really don't care if this game sucks or doesn't really connect to the other last 2 games or the story isn't that great but because this is Lightning and a game about Lightning, that's it for me. My hook has been Lightning and always been her so yeah bring it.

I'm interested in what this game promises to offer and it's Majora's Mask-esque concept, but I'd prefer it if it was it's own IP. After XIII-2 I'm pretty much finished with the setting and the characters within it. I'm guessing SE don't want to move on yet because of the time and resources spent building XIII's world.

I think this will really have to sell me on it before I play it. The fact that you play as Lightning and only her throughout the game is a little concerning. They're going to have to make her skill tree wider than ever if they want to keep on giving me a reason to play through the combat. Otherwise it will get boring, very quickly. Especially if there's no real change to it since XIII & XIII-2, of which any fan has already put dozens of hours into playing.

Kind of disappointed with Final Fantasy XIII-2, but hopefully XIII-3 is better, though I don't think it will be from the trailer. I think as of now I'm going to try playing some of the older ones that I've never played, like VII.

Just saw the trailer for Lightning Returns, and there are two things that piqued my curiousity:
- How does continue on from XIII-2?
- Will you only play Lightning?

Looking forward to more trailers

^The whole game is set 100 years from when FF13-2 ended, so depending on what get reveals later on I guess. Also, not sure if you only play as Lightning but the it's been confirmed previous characters will be brought back, isn't said who specifically but Snow if one of them. x

Honestly, I think it's a little early to really guess what'll this game will really bring, these trailers show about 30% of what they've developed so far, so yeah hopefully more trailers will happen soon.

I completed XIII-2 this afternoon. The end boss went from ridiculously hard to ridiculously easy after an hour or so of levelling. Did it first time round and whereas the last time I was relying a lot on paradigm shifts and keeping track of everything, there was no such need here. I blitzed through it pretty easily without any real concern for adopting strategies. Funny how the difficulty shifts in such a huge way like that. Hell, I even got the achievement for getting a 5 star rating on it.

As for that ending? The less said the better. I think it's certainly a better game than XIII, as in, there is more things to see and do that improves the longevity of it but I really just disliked the story the more it went on. Now, every FF game has it's share of clunky dialogue, but it was just more prevalent here. I don't want anything more to do with XIII's world or it's characters.

I felt that if you were just following the main story, that leveling up was sufficient enough to get through the game (ie no need for fancy Paradigms).

However, when you start tackling some of the side quests, you will need different sets of Paradigms. Outside of the amount of hours I spent leveling up, I had to farm items to level up my monsters as well (because they kept getting slaughtered :( ).

Famitsu has more information about Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII.

The magazine introduced Lumina who looks like Serah, but with a little bit of a gothic lolita style. Lumina appears to know where Lightning is headed. Sometimes Lumina helps Lightning, but other times Lumina gets in Lightning’s way. Lumina kind of views Lightning like a toy.

Lightning will have new abilities and magic spells in Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII. It seems like there is some kind of guard and evasion system in the game too. Players will be able to take side quests posted on a bulletin board and clearing these might extend the time the world survives.

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII gives Lightning a new costume. Don’t like it? You can change her look by obtaining different “wear.” There are three kinds of wear in a set and you can equip wear in battle. Two costumes were revealed too. The Dark Muse outfit gives Lighting a camouflage jacket, knife, and a lattice style shield. The Lonely Soul in a Sandstorm costume is kind of like samurai armor.

So far, I think only Snow and Noel will be showing up from past games. (Only Lightning, Lumina and Snow's character profiles are up on the website)

Quote
A one-time ally of Lightning, Snow was engaged to her sister, Serah. Now he is the world’s last remaining l’Cie, cursed with a terrible power.

Though devastated by his failure to protect Serah, he has served as the Patron of Yusnaan for five long centuries. He protects the city and its people even as the rest of the world falls apart.

“We all come into the world alone, and that’s the way we’ve gotta leave it.”

cr: official character synopsis from website

At this point, you can say whatever you want about FF13 and Lightning because honestly I don't care, this is the only FF game I give a damn about. I love this game and I love the characters. Basically, you can go to the moon and back telling me how much you hate it but I really don't care, cause I'll still be praising this game to the day I die.

A little bit pre-mature as of right now, but whatever.

How many different looks has Snow gone through now? XD

I don't begrudge anyone for liking the world and characters of XIII, who am I to judge afterall, but it wasn't for me. And after two games, I just want a change from it in the next FF.

Which we may see revealed at E3 next week. I would put money down on saying that Versus XIII is now becoming XV for next gen consoles.

Looks amazing. Here's hoping we don't have to wait too long before release.
