Usually I hate all the whining but come on, top 10 for the first time since Morning Coffee?? That's pretty BAD. I don't believe it means that Momusu is breaking up and that other crap, but these sales are, in momusu terms, BAD. That's just a fact, jack. lol These aren't some enka singers who usually sell 1000 copies, this is Morning Musume. We're allowed to expect them to sell a certain amount. And I hate it that every time someone is saying something REALISTIC about Momusu sales, there's someone lecturing them about it. OMG It's okay to be DISAPPOINTED if your favourite doesn't sell as much as you wish they did. It's a NATURAL REACTION. Sheesh.

Sure, being in the Top 10 since 'Morning Coffee' is bad, but better now than never :) Right?

And I'm just going to stick at looking at the positive side of the situation. Sure, this happened, but at least we got this. That sort of thing.

The Oricon singles chart top 10:
*1 350,863 KAT-TUN
*2 115,520 ケツメイシ
*3 *94,284 EXILE
*4 *54,639 KOH+
*5 *33,391 Hey!Say!JUMP
*6 *28,082 モーニング娘。
*7 *25,021 銀杏BOYZ
*8 *20,045 コブクロ
*9 *17,904 NEWS
10 *15,916 L'Arc~en~Ciel『Hurry Xmas』

These are sales of CDs. There is a global trend towards digital downloads (I do not mean file sharing). CD sales are hurting because of this and other reasons. That's why I was wondering if and where "Mikan" was being sold as digital download. If so, it would be nice if there's a comprehensive chart of digital download sales somewhere. That's the only way to make a fair comparison between artists and past and current results. We are not looking at the whole picture with Oricon sales alone.

This is disappointing to me.  This could well be their lowest selling single ever and I hope it is and no future single go below that figure.  Plus, I don't want to see MM lose out to C-ute or Buono!, and even Berryz are coming in this week.  I'm wondering whether the promotions outside of Japan effected the sales and popularity inside Japan.  With no handshake event for this single, Japanese might feel like they were left-out.  Only if YesAsia and PlayAsia was counted, we might be competing for No.1 spot. :D

Shirenu's right in a way, it's totally okay to feel bad when your favorite group is not doing well in their sales (the first thing that went to my head when I read the news was 'omg this is bad, is MM losing their touch?') but when I read Reyfer's post (yeah I usually read threads backwards XD ) I'm... kinda shocked at how positive he is.

but yeah, now I choose to just stay positive, I mean, I don't care what the figures say, Mikan is still a good single to me, and I still smile whenever I saw Ai-chan's smile at 1:53 :)

And who knows, just look at morning coffee, it placed 6th on it's first week ranking, and yet it's the start of a great streak of singles for MM. so maybe we can see this as MM starting fresh?  maybe this isn't a bad sign at all, but a good sign of great singles to come ^_^

anyways that's my opinion :)

EXACTLY. A few months ago Onna sold 43K on the first week, and now Mikan only sells 28K. The girls are the same, so something must have happened. Don't talk about competition because there is always competition, big names and big surprises; don't talk about lack of promotion because the Anniversary has put them on the media again more than a simple single release would have ever done; don't talk about too much H!P releases at the same time because that's also a common thing.

Like shirenu says, these figures are BAD. You cannot talk about Morning Musume and the artists "below" them on the same terms, or on the same level, because Morning Musume is and has been a lot more, and their competition are those that are above them, not below. My biggest worry is that, with few expections, first weeks (and totals) are lower and lower with each single. I still remember when most of us discussed at JPM the bad sells of Nº5 and we freaked out with those "bad" results. If someone would have told us that a few years later we'd be talking about "28K"...

Seriously, when you've been a fan, and you have lived MM on the Gold Era, this figures simply hurt too much you can't just smile and pretend to see the positive things. I want Morning Musume to be big again, but I see they're not trying. Mikan is no proper a-side, TV schedule is horrible, and some people between 5th and 8th gen is not helping. Both UFA and Tsunku have made some decisions that have put the group on a threshold; my hope is that they can get over it somehow.

^ I disagree on not being able to find the positive things in it though.

Like I said, sure it's bad, but at least their sales figures weren't as they were and they were far beyond the Top 10. It's highly possible, and yet, they're in the Top 10. I'm not going to be all "BOOHOO! Poor Momusu girls...!!", even though yes, that's a natural reaction  XD People will also react differently.

Part of the problem, in my case anyway, is that H!P is releasing way too much stuff. My spending money is very limited, so I have to choose between several photobooks, concert DVDs, singles from different units, etc. So I decided not to get Mikan.

somehow I think Mikan shouldn't be a A-side .... it should be a B-side or in an album .......

btw, I think if Genki+ is the A-side, it'll sell a lot more

But remember! It's not so much who buys the songs, it's how much people like and listen to the songs on the radio and download them because we're poor, cheap fuckers! :D

Yes, but the lecturing can't be totally unexpected these days...

What's the mood like in Japan regarding this single?

It was definitely a bad idea to release Mikan last week with all those big singles coming out. It would just get pwned/overlooked. Not to mention the doinks at UFA probably thought that they could ride the wave from the ALL SINGLES COMPLETE release and so they didn't promote Mikan adequately enough compared to OnSA.

I don't think it's the end of MoMusu but definitely it should have done better!  :banghead: I just hope that UFA learns a lesson next time...I think it would have definitely sold more copies had it not been released in such a busy week and had gotten more promotion...

i personally like the song too, although i also think it could be better, the song, not the sales. compare to the previous singles of this year, this may have been the worst one. we did say that Tsunku may have been trying something new with this single, trying to creat a anime theme-like songs. maybe it could've sold better if it was actually a anime theme song.  but who knows, i'm not even strong believe in that statement either.

But whether it's a good or bad single, what done is done.  i'd say let's just forget it for now.
if u like the song, good, if u don't, then fine.  let's move on.  let's just wait what's the next thing have to offer.  hope tsunku learns something from this and do a better job next time. MoMusu, too. and UFA, definitely.
I just wanna say.....  MoMusu FOREVER~!  I LOVE THEM, and even though i'm a lil sad about the low sales, i believe (and seriously don't wanna jinx anything) is still going strong, and become even better in the near future, so is H!P.  i just got into them about more than a year ago and don't want it to end. i love the girls and think that they have great personalities, and i hope that they are gonna develop into stronger artists/idols. Ganbatte~!
Tsunku is a great producer, and i hope that u would still produce the great group known as MoMusu and H!P for more to come.  and i know that something is not under his decisions and he can't control what UFA is doing.

Their appearance on Utaban is up at H!T now. IMO, the talk segment was looking good until they brought in "Dylan and Catherine".

Two weeks ago my friends in there didn't even know Onna ni Sacchi Are. With the songs premiere (and plays) in H!P self radio shows, and the TV performances in H!M or past mid-night shows (MJapan, MFighter) OBVIOUSLY people doesn't notice the song :banghead: You either go to HEY HEY HEY and/or Music Station or you simply do not exist.

They have done that before, I thought, holy sh*t are those two still 'alive' and are they going to perform for the rest of the segment   Luckely is was only for one question...

In all, short but not to bad the hosts had some good laughs which for me indicates they at least where somewhat amused and might bode not to bad for the next time they are on.

Also, no 'old one's' so that was a plus for current MM.
