The girl from Fukuoka, trying to make it in the big city.....from failing her initial audition, working as staff, then the fans cheering her to being selected as a member, Akimoto giving her 4 days to memorize 12 songs (including dance steps), she passes, works a grueling schedule (along with her group mates) of rehearsal, performance, rehearsal, to reach success with AKB48...................along with being one of the most beautiful women in Japan, she is smart, funny, looks after other members.......She certainly has earned a place in the entertainment industry, and as long as she wants to lead a public life, I think that place is assured.

I only opened up to Mariko very recently. She has a specific sort of humor which took me a while to enjoy. It was great to see her do super lame jokes with Oku.

I don't find her attractive. She's either too skinny or too muscular for my tastes. I don't like her short cut either, but I'm starting to realize it is an essential part of her image. When they do those surveys on AKBingo and Naruhodo, people always point out her short cut, for better or for worse.

Personality-wise we don't really match either

A lot of the things she talked about during AKB48's first documentary didn't really appeal to me. Aw well, that's all fine. You need variety in a group like this and Mariko is definitely an interesting figure.
