The closing act is considered the most prestigious, which is why it's usually some old fut. Seniority has its benefits.

Leadoff acts are usually Kouhaku noobs, which is why it's surprising that H!P gets the nod. Yeah, I know two-thirds of H!P has to get to bed by 8:30 PM but still...

I swear, this must be the umpteenth time Ishikawa Sayuri is singing THAT song.

This is my 7th year to be in Japan for New Years, and I have yet to watch a full show.. Tonight will be no different..

Would much rather watch the 5hr CDTV special which starts just before midnight..

Watching Kohaku right now too, thanks to NHK world

Been watching it since it started and there's still a second half to go through x__x

H!P opened the show and the audio was pretty awful somehow.
i'm still being wtf about Michishige Sayumi's hairstyle while they were being a choir or something for this Enka lady.

i havnt seen any of the 2 perfs but i saw akb48s costume at the last part where they all gather up in stage...i think they even got better costumes.

I think what made me think that their perf was better was that they actually sang a whole song (I think) and not some stupid medley with songs that didn't go well with one another.

I actually really liked some of the Enka performances lol, and most of the White team's as well.

Then there was that one with the kids and the huge bug. Can't remember the name for my life, but it was cute.

BoA's medley was so great. Such powerful vocals.
Ayu's performance wasn't as bad as many said. She also looks so gorgeous.
Hello! Project's medley was a total disappointment. 2005 was their best performance.

Leah Dizon was the worst of the worst. Her voice is ew.

Is anybody is familiar with the MHz channels? I have NHK, which is brodcasted from MHz (MHz6). But they weren't playing Kouhaku. Any know if they are two different things?

^ in Japan, there are 2 NHKs.. NHK2 (which this was on) and NHK12 which has a lot of international programs and study programs.. Maybe you were viewing 12
