Fans will know why. hehe. And now I can do that survey from last year. yay!

My Reina story:
I started listening to Morning Musume pretty soon after they debuted. But stopped around 2000, probably due to moving to a new country.

In 2005 I had my first trip to Japan, and found Otomegumi's "Ai no Sono: Touch My Heart!" being played around Shinjuku.
I really liked the song, and bought the cd. The sub-group totally got me back into H!P, and pretty much solidified me to check them live one day.

In 2007 I had my 2nd trip, so I went to their Sexy 8 Beat concert in Niigata. You can read that here:

I still don't know if I bought a Reina shirt simply because it was blue, or because I really wanted to support her. But I've loved her ever since.

My favourite thing about Reina: She shows her true self.
Honestly, I'm not fond of girls with her type of personality (I bet it gets on a lot of peoples nerves).
But Reina is the only exception. It gives her a friendly character and makes her charming.

A memorable performance: Aa! on Music Station. geez have they grown up!

A moment that made me laugh: Hello Morning 060917. Where Reina kept losing and had to take care of Maririn (the dog).

A moment that surprised me: Haromoni@ 080914 Reina showing enhanced sensory skills!

Tanaka Reina (20), member of popular girl group Morning Musume, has been writing on her blog that she "can't sleep" seemingly every day for some time now, causing her fans to worry for her physical health. As she's been writing on her blog of "hallucinations," as well, her fans have begun to wonder if it has some connection to insomnia. Tanaka joined Morning Musume in 2003 after passing the group's sixth generation audition, and since then, she's been seen as the core of the unit with many individual parts in their songs.

Tanaka often writes that she "can't sleep." Even as she declares her intention to sleep around two or three in the morning, her blog updates don't stop. In an entry posted on June second, she wrote, "Today I plan to... go to sleep early... wish me... luck...," but in the end, she couldn't sleep, and at 6:51 AM she returned with another entry:

"Even though I laid down just a little while ago... ...I'm already getting back up, I'm so tired, helppppp"

On July eleventh, she posted again, sounding exhausted:

"I eventually went to bed early in the morning at five yesterday ... but I couldn't sleep at allllllllllll
This insomnia thing seriously sucks"

Continuing on August fifteenth, she said, "I just noticed that it's already bright outside. Anyway, I woke up at eight... ...I seriously can't sleep. I laid down at five and woke up at eight... even though I laid down again, too"

Then, on August sixteenth, she went on, "It's four already!? (lol) Everyone, if you're tired, go sleep.　Reina's going to go get in the bath or something, so I don't know when I'll update next," in just one more entry describing her sleeping problem.

Why can't she sleep? Could it be that she's fatigued from maintaining her blog as a means of keeping a good relationship with her fans? It was argued by some that she could be too excited from work to properly fall asleep. Still, in one entry posted just before going to bed, she said, "Being by yourself is lonely," leading fans to wonder if she might dread having to go to sleep by herself.

One reason that it could possibly be scary for her to sleep is her "hallucinations." On June twenty-second, Tanaka wrote, "Lately, Reina's been having hallucinations. What are the hallucinations of, you ask... I see cockroaches, always, everywhere..."

Tanaka analyzed her own condition, saying, "I wonder why I could be hallucinating cockroaches... am I sick, or is it fatigue..." In a blog update posted on June second, seeing them inside her closet, she was shocked and wrote of the strange creatures, saying, "They look as big as sea slugs." However, as she was staring at them without moving, it was said to be an optical illusion.

In the comments of her August sixteenth post, many fans were concerned for the sleepless Tanaka, saying, "If you don't start sleeping a little earlier, I'll worry that you're going to collapse at some point," "For the sake of your beauty and your health, I think it's best not to destroy the rhythm of your daily life," and "You went to bed pretty late, huh. You're going to get anemic." Over 3000 comments were submitted to this post alone.

With Tanaka's days of no sleep continuing like this, will she be okay? When we tried inquiring this of her management, Up-Front Agency, they said, "There's been no mention of her being in poor health." Asking them why she's written of her insomnia so often on her blog, in that case, they seemed as if they didn't know.

Wow, it's getting in the news huh?

I can confirm those quotes from Reina's blog, as I read it most every day myself. This talk about her not being able to sleep well has been going on for months really. I suppose I never thought of it as a huge problem... but then I just don't really think of that kinda stuff. I've talked about it with friends though - she seems to take naps throughout the day and sleep late a lot. That seems to be when she has the most trouble sleeping. What's true though is she definitely has irregular sleep patterns which I don't imagine is the healthiest... even though she is maybe a little ball of energy.

As for the hallucinations... I must have missed those posts, though she has talked about her dreams a lot. Maybe that's part of it? I can really believe she's been hallucinating cockroaches though as freaked out as she got about that one that she "saw". I wonder if she really saw it now? o_O

I'll have to keep a closer eye on her blog in the coming days. Did someone say there were translations somewhere? Though probably not as quickly as I can see them just pop up over the day.
