Chapter 13
Fate of GAM
December 23 (2.30pm)
Miki hesitated before she knocked on the door. It had been quite some time since she last had a private meeting with him. Most of the time, she would enter this room with someone. Back in the Morning Musume days, that person was Yossie and now, that person was Aya. “Tsunku, are you looking for me?” she asked as she entered the room rather apprehensively.
“Miki, take a seat,” he spoke seriously. Miki glared at the guy sitting in front of her and couldn’t help but to recall his menace and hypocrisy in helping his daughter to secure a leadership role in Morning Musume. At least GAM was formed permanently because of that. When Miki was seated, he threw a pile of letters on the table and said, “Aya’s manager was filtering the fan-mails received a week ago this morning and he found all these. Take a look.”
Miki picked one of the letters from the pile and read. There was literally fury in her eyes when she finished reading the letter. She crushed it up and threw it on the floor. “What the hell is that?” she shouted.
“It’s supposed to be a fan-mail.”
“Like real. Will a fan write, ‘Miki sleeps around and she has the lousiest attitude in the whole of H!P. I hate her. I hate GAM. I want to kill you, Aya’?”
“It’s obviously not from a fan. There are still a lot more if you want to read.”
Miki flipped through the pile and read another one. It wrote: “Miki sucks like hell. Go to hell, GAM!”
Miki crushed the letter up and said, “These people have too much time to spare. They wasted their time cutting out the Japanese characters from newspapers and pasting it on sheets of paper and posting them only to be filtered by the manager.”
“This morning, Aya told her manager that she had been receiving mails to her private address and strange phone calls in the middle of the night.”
Anger piled up in her chest.
Why didn’t you tell me anything? So that’s what that phone call that made you go white about. “They are most likely from one person.”
“Hope so.”
“Miki, those people hate you but they send those mails to Aya.”
“True. Cowardly assholes.”
“No, you missed the point.”
“What’s
your point?” she asked defiantly.
“My point is those people hate you but they harass Aya. I won’t stand for that. I won’t allow that to happen to my key soloist.”
Key soloist? Why do I have a bad feeling about this? “What are you driving at?”
“To put it bluntly, I will rather have those people after your head than harassing Aya like that. I want to terminate GAM for the time-being.”
“What?”
This can’t be real…“If the letters are still flooding in after this temporary termination, then GAM will be terminated permanently.”
“What if they stop coming in?”
“Then I’ll announce that GAM will make a special appearance on some talk show and if the letters do come in after that announcement, then GAM will be terminated permanently because it shows that GAM is the cause of the letters.”
“Oh crap. Just because of this stupid letters you want to terminate GAM.”
“I want to play safe. I need to play safe. I don’t want my soloist harassed. Let alone harmed.”
“So the only thing I can do now is to pray that when that announcement comes, the letters will stop coming in, right?”
“Not just that, Miki. You can change that stinky attitude of yours in the meantime.”
Miki spoke sarcastically, “Thanks for your advice. Anything else?” Tsunku shook his head. Miki took her leave. She didn’t know how she should feel after this meeting.
Should I be angry at Aya for not telling me all these? Should I be upset that I was the cause behind Aya’s harassment? Should I be frustrated at Tsunku’s decision? Should I be depressed that GAM is terminated temporary because of me? All these questions jumbled up in her mind making her confused. The only things she wanted to do now were to scream at and cry to someone now. She took out her phone and dialed the familiar number.

December 23 (3.23pm)
Miki went into the bar and took a seat in the corner of the room. Being an artist, corner seemed to be the best place in every single place. Before long, she felt a tap on her shoulder and her friend acknowledged her, “Why are you drinking in the afternoon, Fujimoto?”
Miki shook her head. She had been drinking before Yossie arrived and her face was flushed. “Sorry to call you out, Yossie. I just need to talk to someone now.”
Yossie took a seat beside Miki and asked out of concern, “Hey, what happened?”
“Tsunku called me in for a meeting just now and told me that GAM would be terminated temporarily.” Tears welled up in her eyes as she started narrating what happened earlier.
Yossie’s eyes widened. “What? Why?”
“Apparently Aya had been receiving weird letters, phone calls and fan-mails and as her girlfriend, I don’t know anything about it until Tsunku shot the fan-mails in my face just now.”
“What’s weird about them?”
“Basically they said that, ‘Miki sucks! I want to kill GAM! I want to kill Aya!’ Those people are assholes to send this sort of things to Aya’s mails instead of mine.”
“So Tsunku terminated GAM to protect Aya?”
Miki nodded and there was anger in her voice when she spoke, “He’s a jerk. He only called me in for the meeting even though it concerned GAM because he wanted to keep his Ayaya innocent. What the hell.”
“Don’t you think that the timing of those letters and phone calls are just-”
“Yeah, I told Tsunku that those letters probably came from one person or maybe just a group but he said he would play safe.”
Yossie nodded knowingly. That was typical of Tsunku to do that. “So how are you feeling now?”
“Crappy. Why didn’t Aya tell me anything about those letters and phone calls? I was right beside her when she picked up the call…” Miki looked so vulnerable when she said that and tears were streaming down her cheeks.
“Maybe she didn’t want to worry you. Maybe she didn’t want you to go all out like what you had done last time round with us,” Yossie paused as she recalled their relationship. She was the villain and Miki was the heroine.
No, I can’t think of that now. I need to help her. She took in a deep breath before continuing, “She didn’t want to endanger your life. Probably she thought that this sort of things happen once in a while to idols.”
Miki shook her head. “Maybe you are right about it.”
Yossie took a tissue and wiped off the tears on Miki’s face. Miki allowed Yossie to do so. “You don’t have to worry about GAM. In the worst scenario whereby GAM is fully terminated, it shouldn’t matter as much as before now that you have hooked up with her.”
“True.”
“As for Tsunku, he’s just an asshole.”
Miki laughed. “Thanks Yossie. Now I feel better. Is my attitude that stinky?”
“No, it’s Fujimoto Miki’s attitude. Just ignore that old man. Even if those letters say your attitude is stinky and they will kill Aya for that, you will be there to protect her, won’t you?” Miki nodded. “Stop drinking and get home to keep her company.”
Miki stood up and said, “Thanks a lot, Yossie. I don’t think I will find a better company than you.” She meant her words when she said that.
“It’s fine. You can call me up if you feel crappy again.”
Miki smiled and they left the bar together. When they were out of the bar, Yossie took out her handphone and saw that there were one new message which read as followed: Yossie, let’s meet up for dinner later at that same Chinese restaurant. Is 6pm fine with you? Forever waiting for you – Charmy Rika ^^
“Is your darling looking for you again?” Miki teased.
“Yeah, I got to go back to bathe and change up before I meet up with her. I don’t want to have the Fujimoto’s smell when I meet up with her later.”
“That isn’t a bad scent.”
“Yeah, but it gives the wrong impression to her. See you!” Yossie exclaimed. She then flagged a taxi and jumped into it. Inside the taxi, she waved to Miki and sent her a text message: If anything goes wrong, just call me.
I’m just so glad that you confided in me. It shows that you don’t view me just as an ordinary friend. Thanks for giving me another chance, Fujimoto. Yossie smiled.
Miki gazed blankly at the taxi that Yossie just hopped on and smiled to herself.
Yossie, you are really a great friend. Now that I have talked to you, I feel much better and I won’t scream wildly at Aya later. You do know that you are important to me, don’t you? Yossie, I trust that you aren’t the person who sent those mails. Please don’t break my trust. Please don’t. ********
This chapter is quite hard to write because it's hard to think of things against Miki. After all, she's a goddess
