Visitors to a night safari in northern Thailand won't get to taste exotic animal meats as previously planned because the wildlife dishes sparked a storm of criticism and have been taken off the zoo menu, the project's director said Monday.
The Chiang Mai Night Safari Zoo announced last week an "Exotic Buffet" for VIP guests at its grand opening next year, which was to include tiger, lion, elephant and giraffe. But now only farm-raised alligator and ostrich will be served at the night safari, project director Plodprasop Suraswadi said in a statement.

I can see tigers and elephants since they're endangered, but people eat game meat all the time. Why the fuss?
Lions breed so fast, you need to do something with them....

Agreed. If it's an endangered species, it shouldn't be on there. If not, why not? Just because it's on the menu doens't necessarily mean that lots of people will be ordering it anyway.

Maybe it's because of cute and non-edible image of giraffes and other animals.
Some tourists don't like the idea of eating reindeer in Finland, because they're Santa's pets and cute...
