Kitagawa & Masukawa are “Valentine Queens”

Today happened the "Oricon Valentine Festival 2010", a special event done by Pock maker Glico and Oricon Style. During that event both the actress Kitagawa Keiko (23) and the model Masukawa Tsubasa (24) received the "Valentine Queen Award".

Oricon Style did the survey for the award and asked 300 female high school students in several categories. Kitagawa, who appeared in a gorgeous dress, was able to top the survey in both the "dorama heroine" and the "female celebrity" categories. Many female students came to the event to cheer on their favorite actress. "It makes me really happy to receive so much support from girls." She said with a smile.

About her Valentine plans this year, she commented: "I’ll probably have to work." Kitagawa isn’t that good in making her own chocolate anyway, since she attended a girls’ school during junior and senior high. "I’m an expert in receiving rather than making." However, in Japan you have something called "Tomo-Choco" that is referring to chocolate you give to a good friend rather than your lover or current crush. "Maybe I should give some chocolate to the female staff that always supports me or to a fellow actress." A fellow actress? Does she maybe have anyone in mind? "I’d like to give some to Matsushima Nanako, I really admire her." Kitagawa and Masukawa then also received some of Glico’s newest Pocky creation "Deco-Pocky" that is all about special decorations and flashy toppings that you can create yourself. They received some that have been create by those students.

Masukawa, who already worked as a "Pocky Princess" for Glico last year, appeared in a red mini-skirt and talked a bit about her Valentine plans as well. "I’d like to make some Deco-Pocky for my model friends and my mom. Maybe I’ll even make it together with my son."

Actresses admired by girls

It’s obvious that men like actresses, but it’s quite difficult to be successful without a great deal of support from the same sex as well. Entertainment magazine "Oricon Star" asked 300 of their female high school readers about which actress is able to unintentionally fascinate them; in other words actresses they admire the most.

They already dropped the name of the first place a couple of days ago for the Valentine Queen awards, it’s Kitagawa Keiko. "Her natural face in doramas is so pretty and her commercial entrance me all the time as well." She currently seems to be the top actresses regarding to girls and women in Japan. They voted her on the first place for "Best Dorama Heroine of 2009" and the 2nd place in the "I’d like to have a face like her" ranking a while ago.

Kitagawa had her actress debut with the movie "Mamiya Brothers" and her biggest highlight so far was the role as the heroine in the getsu-9 dorama "Buzzer Beat". People are used to see her with a lot of make-up when she works as a model, but her natural good looks that she had to reveal as an actress scored her many points with the female viewers. "In doramas she almost wears no make-up at all and that’s when she’s the prettiest." Good looks alone can help you, but they can’t bring up to the top. Fortunately she also has great charisma as you can see in all of her appearances on variety shows. "She’s pretty, cute and stylish, but her character is good as well."

On second place is Shibasaki Kou and her impressive eye power. "She’s cute and she’s cool. Especially her eyes are so beautiful." "I’m so envious that she has a cute and a cool face at the same time." Thanks to her roles in various movies and doramas she got herself the image of a tough woman. However, even in real life she is often getting praised for her "core strength" / mental power.

Becky, who nowadays even works as a singer, ranked third place. The fact that she cut her beautiful long hair last year left a big impression among her female fans. "She cut her hair and became even prettier." Becky is also able to cheer up any mood with her lively character, her bright smile and her funny talks on variety shows. "She’s extremely cute and you can totally see her character on her face."

Here now the full ranking.

01 – Kitagawa Keiko
02 – Shibasaki Kou
03 – Becky
04 – Karina
05 – Miyazaki Aoi
06 – Sasaki Nozomi
07 – Koyuki
08 – Aragaki Yui
09 – Ayase Haruka
10 – Kuroki Meisa

Keiko Kitagawa, Masaki Okada in “Matataki”

Keiko Kitagawa (23) is starring in a new film directed by Itsumichi Isomura, titled "Matataki." The movie is based on the first full-length novel by screenwriter Len Kawahara, who wrote the screenplay for the 2009 movie "Yomei."

In this heartrending love story, Kitagawa plays a young woman named Izumi, whose boyfriend Junichi (played by 20-year-old Masaki Okada) dies in a motorcycle accident. As a result, the shocked Izumi suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder and loses her memory from the time of the incident. With the help of a lawyer (Nene Otsuka), she is eventually able to remember Junichi's final moments. The rest of the supporting cast includes Misa Shimizu, Tomorowo Taguchi, and Kin Sugai.

The theme song will be a new tune by singer K, titled "Aitai Kara."

Isomura ("Ganbatte Ikimasshoi," "Gege") directed and wrote the adapted script. The movie was shot in the spring of 2009 and has already completed post-production. Theatrical release is planned for this June.

Kitagawa not going to appear in “Ashita no Joe”

At the end of last week, one weekly tabloid reported that TBS plans to air a dorama version of the rumored upcoming movie "Ashita no Joe" and that actress Kitagawa Keiko (23) would co-star next to Yamashita Tomohisa (24).

Well, that rumor about Kitagawa didn't last longer than 1 weekend. Today her agency denied her involvement in anything related to Ashita no Joe. "That's a groundless rumor. There are neither plans for Kitagawa to appear in the movie nor a dorama." If the rumors about her involvement are already wrong, how high are the chances that we are going to see a dorama version in the first place?

At the same time the movie has finally officially been announced and it really will feature Yamashita in the starring role. Another actor has been confirmed as well. Kagawa Teruyuki (44) is going to play Tange Danpei, the boxing trainer of Joe. "Ping Pong" director Sori Fumihiko will direct the movie.

Filming will begin in the last third of March and it will probably be in theaters early next year.

“Hana no Ato” stage greeting

Today was the opening day for the movie "Hana no Ato". As usual there was a stage greeting happening the same day and starring actress Kitagawa Keiko (23) attended it wearing a very beautiful kimono.

During the greeting she talked about how hard she worked for her first role in a movie with a historical setting. "I started to practice sword fighting and the conducts around one year and a half ago. It was really hard to wait for this day (the opening day)."

She also mentioned how the learned conducts become useful in her daily life. "I think it had a really good influence in my eating manners. It also helped me mature more as an actress and as a person."

Kitagawa not happy to be just one of many in new Kimutaku dorama

(Gossip) This spring Fuji TV is going to air the new dorama "Tsuki no Koibito" starring Kimura Takuya  (37) Mondays at 9pm. At his side he is going to have three big actresses, Lin Chi-ling (35), Shinohara Ryoko  (36) and Kitagawa Keiko (23). Lin is going to make her first appearance in a Japanese dorama and also helps Kimura to raise his popularity in Asia outside of Japan. Shinohara is making her big comeback to the dorama world and what would be better than a dorama with Kimura.

Now what about Kitagawa? There doesn't seem to be any particular reason for her to be in this dorama, especially not just as the third actress. The tabloid Shukan Bunshun, however, claims that her casting might be the aftermath of Sawajiri Erika's sudden discharge from her agency last year.

A media insider explained the situation: "Kitagawa has been in the talks for a starring role in a Fuji TV dorama this spring, but suddenly it was decided for her to appear in a supporting role next to Kimutaku. Her popularity is already high enough and she doesn't have to rely on someone like him to get good ratings, yet she has been casted as just the third actress in line for this dorama. She is said to be very dissatisfied with this decision."

Kimura and his staff usually are able to choose their favorite cast for his projects, but this time there might have been more bargaining going on than usual.

"It isn't just Kimutaku who does the casting, the relationship between his and other agencies have a big influence on the decisions as well. Johnny's are known for being very close with Stardust Promotions, that's why he already had actresses like Takeuchi Yuuko or Shibasaki Kou acting at his side. Kitagawa is from the same agency, but that's no reason to miss out a starring role for her just to get her in a Kimutaku dorama…," an industry official told the tabloid.

It might have all started with the casting for Kimura's "Space Battleship Yamato" last year. His side only made an unofficial offer, but it was obvious that they wanted Stardust's Sawajiri for the female lead. Unfortunately they decided to terminate her contract for all the trouble she has caused them and so he hurriedly had to choose Kuroki Meisa as her substitute.

"Everything would have worked out for Kimura Takuya with Sawajiri Erika at his side. The fact that her agency made a one-sided decision without caring about his project, they've allowed to become indebted to him. The two agencies might be close with each other, but it's an unwritten rule in the industry that you have to clear your debts. The result is that they had to pay it back by having their most popular young actress, Kitagawa Keiko perform in his new dorama no matter what big of a role," another industry official explained.

Do you think it is a waste for Kitagawa to be the third in line in a Kimutaku dorama or might she still gain something from his never-ceasing popularity?

Kitagawa Keiko’s love fortune

Actress Kitagawa Keiko (23) and actor Okada Masaki (20) attended a PR event for their upcoming movie "Matataki" at the Nogi Shrine in Akasaka, Tokyo. The shrine is a popular place for people to tie the knot.

The movie is based on a novel by author Kawahara Ren and tells the sad love story of a young woman that lost her beloved in a traffic accident and now gets haunted by the memories of that tragic accident. "At first I had troubles playing a woman with such a wound, but I hope you'll see a new side of me," Kitagawa commented with confidence.

At the shrine Kitagawa and Okada also tried to find out their love fortune by drawing "koimikujis". About engagement Kitagawa's said: "A good friend will broach the nice topic." and about marriage itself: "God would bless it whenever it happens." She was quite happy about heir koimikujis. Okada, however, didn't really know what to think of his fortune. "About engagement it said: >It's going to happen rather soon, so you better start thinking about it<," he replied.

The movie will open in Japan on June 19, 2010.
