I never really followed Ume-chan for a long while. She was actually one of the girls I noticed earlier on in my AKB fandom yet, for reasons I can't explain, I never became a fan of hers. Yet I could always identify her in PV's, TV shows, etc so it wasn't like I just didn't notice her. It's only really been in the past couple of months that I've started to become a fan of hers. I don't know whether other people feel the same way, but to me she's been one of those girls who really just has taken a long time to grow on me.

I'll certainly be paying more attention to her now that I've started to get interested in her. So, happy birthday Ume-chan and I promise to try and appreciate you more in 2012

Damn, it feels good to be an Umechan-fan! "Surreal" is the first word that comes to my mind when I look back at Umechan's amazing year. If someone had told me that Umechan would get her own sub-unit, become the UG center and finally make it to the Senbatsu I would have laughed at that fool. When I started following Umechan a couple of years ago I never could have imagined that she would one day achieve the things she achieved in 2011. I honestly thought that she would forever be a "theater girl" who rarely gets to appear on magazines or TV. Things were very different back in 2009. Umechan had joined AKB48 in 2006 but after three long years she was still virtually unknown. She appeared on TV so rarely that it was a big deal to see her in the audience on AKBINGO. She basically didn't even exist outside the AKB theater. I knew Umechan had potential to become way more popular if only she got a push. However it seemed like the big push would never come....

I felt that it was absolutely ridiculous that such a talented girl was so unpopular. Umechan was just as talented and beautiful as the Senbatsu girls. I knew I had to do something so I decided to start pimpin' her like crazy. I wanted to make sure that every AKB48-fan @ JPH!P at least knew who Ayaka Umeda was even if she would forever remain a theater girl. Two years later I feel happy. She finally did it! Umechan finally got her big break! Mission accomplished. And the best thing is that she managed to prove that she's just as awesome and talented as the Senbatsu members. I have spent countless of hours sharing Umechan pictures & videos but it has definitely been worth it. Seeing Dakishimechaikenai PV made me happy that I decided to vote for Umechan in Senbatsu election. It's easy to see that Umechan truly appreciates her fans as she always works hard to make sure that she is worth our support.

I'm not sure if I have managed to convert any people to fans but at least people finally know who Ayaka Umeda is. Seeing people voting for her in our 2011 polls really means a lot to me. I might be biased but I feel that Umechan truly is the breakthrough star of the year. It might have taken years but she finally made it! Right now it feels like only sky is the limit for Umechan and I believe that her star will shine even brighter in 2012. I wanna thank everybody who supported Umechan in 2011! Let's keep supporting her!

An amazing tribute Masa san, arigatou gozaimasu! And Ayaka is truly a young woman who deserves her recent success. Having spent a lot of time in the "trenches", I think she must also be quite an inspiration to the other girls who work in the background while the bigger stars get most of the attention.
Ayaka always seems truly appreciative of any opportunity that she gets, nice to see her beaming smile more often these days!
