AKB48’s Matsui Sakiko Birthday Premium Event, in Kawai Omotesando

On Monday the 10th of December, an event was held at Kawai Omotesando to celebrate the release of Matsui Sakiko’s solo debut album “Kokyuu Suru Piano.” As the event also coincided with Matsui’s 22nd birthday, 100 lucky fans were chosen by lottery from over 3500 applicants to attend the event. Matsui performed 4 songs on our top of the range Concert Grand Piano, the “SK-EX.”

Q. What was it like playing the piano at Omotesando?

It was really easy to play. The university that I attend also has the same piano, so I have used it a lot in practice, for taking my exams and when performing. Although saying that, even though today was the 3rd event, I still get nervous every time I perform. This time the event had already started before I’d even realised.

Q. What was the reason you began to play the piano?

My Mother is a piano teacher and my Father also knows how to play too, so naturally I followed their lead and before I knew it, I too was playing the piano. There was a Kawai piano in both our house and my Grandmother’s house, so I was always encouraged to play from a very early age.

Q. What it is about the piano that appeals to you?

Usually I’m a singer in AKB, but singing and playing the piano are completely different things. There are no lyrics and there is nothing like the dances seen in AKB songs. If there were lyrics and dancing it would be easy to see its attraction, but there is none of that with the piano. With the Piano the message you want to convey must come through the music, I think that is its main selling point. I’d like to be able to convey messages with my music.

Q. Finally, could you please tell us about your future aspirations?

I’m going to continue to work hard, both as an AKB member and as a pianist and it would be great if I had more opportunities to perform in front of everyone. I will continue to work hard so I can meet everyone’s expectations of me. It would make me really happy if I was able to release another album in the future.
