New ficcie time!! This one shouldn't be as depressing

Mamotte Agetai ~ Resonant Blue EditionChapter 1With the tiny brush that I'm holding in my hand, I sweep the soft, fine bristles across to clean off the dirt and dust particles which have inevitably collected on the convex glass. Then using a cotton swab moistened with lens cleaning liquid, I carefully dab at the inside edges of the expensive lens. Ahhh, my camera, my most priceless treasure. Just as I was contentedly engrossed with admiring and taking good care of my baby, I was abruptly jolted out of my little reverie by something which had ricocheted off the side of my head.
"What the hell?"
Twisting around in my swivel chair, I growl in annoyance at the person seated in the cubicle directly opposite mine.
"Watch where you throw that will you? Innocent people could get hurt. No wait, I'm already hurt."
Rubbing the spot on my head which was starting to feel a little sore from the impact, I narrowed my eyes at the woman who was currently bouncing a tennis ball against the wall of her cubicle and catching it again in her hand.
"I'm just so damn annoyed!"
"Really? I would never have guessed."
With a retort dripping with sarcasm, I rolled my eyes at my colleague cum best friend before leaning back into my chair. When is she ever not annoyed? Deciding to find out exactly what was bothering her yet again before she continued to use my head as a practice target, I heaved a silent sigh of resignation.
"What did
he do this time?"
By 'he', I meant our chief editor. He was the guy who made all the decisions, picks out the articles to run, rejects our leave application, gobbles down every morsel of food in the pantry without replenishing them and leers at the young interns who have unfortunately landed stints here. In short, the guy was a creep.
"He pulled my article off, AGAIN!"
Dropping my head back such that it was now dangling off the top of the backrest of my chair, I swung myself from side to side in a bid to entertain myself as I thought of a reply which would hopefully not add to my buddy's irritation.
"Weren't you already expecting such a conclusion?"
"Well, yeah, but I didn't expect him to dump
this on me!"
She picked up a file and flung it forcefully at me. Thankfully my reflexes were quick and I managed to save myself from getting slapped in the face by the paper folder.
"What's this?"
Asking purely for the sake of asking, I muttered as I flipped open the document.
"Some idol I'm supposed to interview for the next issue."
Thumbing through the information in the file, I scanned through the list of details and spent a little longer than necessary staring at the photo of the said idol. Obviously very young, her large eyes sparkled and she smiled easily. Recognizing her instantly as the gorgeous face gracing various commercial posters lining the streets of Tokyo, I nodded to myself, fully understanding why she was presently the biggest thing in the entertainment industry. The girl was gorgeous.
"Another one of those brainless bimbos who probably doesn't know the difference between the sun and moon."
Ouch, that was harsh. Grinning at the back of our magazine's number one reporter's head, or so she would like to think, I tossed the file with a flick of my wrist onto the top of the mountain of papers which had accumulated on her desk.
"Good luck interviewing her."
Despite not being a reader of tabloid publications, my roomie was a huge fan of such trashy magazines and it was impossible not to be bombarded by random entertainment gossip on a daily basis.
"Apparently her manager can be quite a handful."
"Wow, lucky me."
Grabbing a few items and stuffing them into her bag, the short woman snatched up the file and stood up from her chair. Then stomping off in the direction of the exit, she paused for a moment to throw down a lone sentence.
"Aren't you moving?"
Hastily trying to sit up properly from my half lying and partially slouching position, I gaped in astonishment at what I've just heard.
"Wait, what?! What has this got to do with me?"
With an evil smirk plastered on her pretty face, she replied before spinning around on her heel .
"Didn't I tell you? I suggested photos be taken to make this an exclusive scoop. Though I'm not happy about being assigned such an article, my name's not Takahashi Ai if I don't do a good job of it."
“GAH!”
Scrambling to gather my equipment and trying desperately not to leave anything out, I hurried to join the waiting Ai. And as we stepped out the door together. I couldn’t help but cast her a sideways glance. Why am I forever giving in to her? Exactly what sort of power does she have over me?
“I know I can always count on you.”
“Yes, Yes, Yes. Depend on me, the ever reliable and easy-going friend.”
Before I forget, let me introduce myself. I’m twenty years old and working as a photographer for a magazine. Oh, and I admit it. I have had a crush on my best friend for the longest time. My name, is Niigaki Risa.
