I don't like the practice neither. I believe AKB were the ones that started this trend and unfortunately pretty much every idol group does it now. All the events Muscats did in May really boosted their sales, I doubt they would have even sold 1,000 copies if there were no events.
This 2nd single have a better a production than T.S.N, that's clear with the songs. Like you comment, all the events on May help to success (plus, appears on tv shows, 2 NicoNico live streams, the strategy of make 2 teams to performances, Yoyogi Park show, etc.)
All the girls put a big effort to make this happen. I mean T.S.N ends #39 on oricon charts at that time, and SBH finish #19 on the ranking (fans did a great work too)
