After seeing the original PV, it's not really violent.
Acchan's scream is disturbing and somewhat frightening but who wouldn't wonder about someone screaming?!

It may be that the company itself kicked of this Censoring campaign to drive up interest, hence increasing awareness, which then drives up sales! It would not surprise me as the company probably found a marketing gimmick to promote the single!

I like "Beginner" and the B-side songs are slowly growing on me!

lolol That wasn't very violent! Though, I can see why perhaps putting that version on tv during the day could freak out children... or... make them scared of robots/games?
I guess the worst bits were Acchan screaming and then Yuko helping her before dying.... but you couldn't really cut out that bit out without messing up the story line- hence having to cut out the whole of those versions when making the Dance Version!
It does seem a bit like like a clever plan to get more interest and sales-- they surely would of thought of this when planning and producing the pv, BUT went through with it anyway! So, in the end, they got to get loads of interest surrounding the single and pv versions and talk of censoring, release a pretty cool pv (though the making of clips were a little annoying when the sound cut out) AND release a kick ass "banned" pv via mobile download that, though it may not be overly gory, it's still risky enough to say it's not suitable to be shown on tv!
Clever, very clever!!

For all you statistics fans out there, I just want to make some Morning Musume comparisons to make the sales more exciting. I don't want to start idol group rivalry or anything.

Morning Musume's highest first week sales are 600,860 for Koi no Dance Site. With Beginner's current 568K it seems likely AKB48 will beat that record.

Secondly, another interesting number to keep an eye on is 682,320. These are the total reported sales for MM's classic song The Peace. It would be cool if AKB48 can reach this level.

AKB48 sets first-day single sales record: 568,000

It was announced earlier this week that AKB48's new single "Beginner" was shipping more than 1 million copies for its release on Wednesday, and that decision now seems well justified. In its first day in stores, "Beginner" sold more than 568,000 copies. According to The Natsu Style, this is the highest first-day sales figure for a single since Oricon began announcing daily sales data. In comparison, Arashi's single "Monster" previously set this year's record for opening-week sales at 543,000. "Beginner" has already surpassed that in one day, and is positioned to possibly overtake Arashi's "Troublemaker" as the best-selling single of the year (currently 699,000 copies). Just two months ago, AKB48 set their own personal record for first-week single sales at 527,000 copies with "Heavy Rotation."
