Chapter 50 “YATTA~ DISNEYLAND~!”
Linlin cheered at the top of her lungs as she ran through the main castle gate with Aika close behind her.
“Linlin, your skirt is flying up!” Aika warned, tryng to run faster.
“It’s okay, I’m wearing shorts underneath!” the panda laughed.
“I’m not talking about that!” Aika yelled out. “I’m talking about your knives!”
Linlin screeched to a stop and pulled the edges of her skirt down, hiding the band around her thighs which were holding a couple of her switch knives. Aika smirked as she caught up to her girlfriend. Linlin froze in place as her eyes looked from side to side.
“Whoops,” she mumbled.
“Be careful, okay?” Aika giggled. “This is Disneyland. People are gonna think we’re weird if we hide things like that under our uniform skirts.”
“I guess you’re right,” Linlin sighed, scratching her head. “But I was just too excited! We haven’t been here in a while… and it makes me happy because this is where we had our first date.”
“And our first kiss,” Aika smiled, pressing her hands to her cheeks to hide her blush.
“Mou, stop being so cute!” Linlin mumbled, grinning to herself.
“You stop first!” Aika said, swaying her body.
“Okay, together then!” Linlin suggested. “Se… no!”
Instantly, both of the girls immediately put their hands down and put their feet together as though they were in the army. Linlin grinned as Aika tried to hold in her laughter. These little moments were what made the two feel as though they belonged together.
“Okay!” Linlin said, taking a deep breath and grabbing her girlfriend’s hand. “Shall we go then?”
“Wait a minute!” Aika said, pulling the excited panda back. “Let’s try to be civilized this time around, Linlin.”
“What do you mean?” her girlfriend asked, cocking her head to the side.
“I mean, we’re high school students already!” Aika explained, trying to be serious. “Isn’t it time we conduct ourselves a bit more maturely now?”
“I suppose…” Linlin mumbled, thinking hard about this new idea. “What happened to our Peter Pan concept?”
“Thing is… Peter Pan is dead,” Aika said hesitantly.
“NO.” Linlin’s mouth dropped open as she gasped.
“YES,” Aika pouted. “That was my reaction too. But I found out a couple days ago in the school library when I was looking up random things on the internet, that Peter Pan was born in 1904… so he’s dead.”
“But… but he lives in Neverland!” Linlin argued, refusing to believe reality. “Nobody grows up there!”
“Thing is… there is no second star to the right that’s named Neverland in the official Nasa database,” Aika said solemnly.
“NO.” Linlin gasped again, her eyes almost bulging out.
“YES!” Aika yelled, looking as though she was about to cry. “But I’m still trying to believe, you know? But it’s hard… fact is, maybe we should pass dreams on to children younger than us now… maybe it’s time we start acting 16 years old.”
“I understand,” Linlin nodded determinedly, holding onto her girlfriend’s hand. “I’m with you all the way, Mittsi!”
“Arigatou, Linlin!” Aika thanked, smiling her shining smile. “I always feel better when I’m with you.”
“Me too,” the panda grinned. “Okay, then. Act more mature… Be like an adult, right?”
“Yup,” Aika nodded. “Be more—KYAAAAH! MICKEY MOUSE!”
In an instant, Mittsi let go of her girlfriend’s hand and dashed over to where a big Mickey Mouse was standing, waving at the children and handing balloons out. She skipped in place amongst the crowd of toddlers and waved Linlin over. The panda skittered over as well to barely catch the camera that Aika threw at her as she ran into Mickey’s arms.
“Take a picture, Linlin, quick!” Aika yelled, unable to stop laughing and smiling.
“Don’t you already have a picture with Mickey?” Linlin asked, raising an eyebrow.
“15 of them,” Aika announced proudly. “And this will be a great addition! So take it!”
“Okay, okay, over here, Mickey-kun!” Linlin waved, laughing. “Iku yo! Se…no!”
“Mickey!” Aika yelled as she smiled her biggest smile.
Mickey Mouse put his arm around the schoolgirl and gave a thumbs-up as well. After the picture, he handed Aika a purple balloon and gave Linlin a light blue one.
“Arigatou!” the couple said in unison.
“So,” Linlin started, as they started to walk further into the park, “what were you saying before again? Be more… mature, was it?” The panda grinned as her girlfriend’s face turned a little red from the light teasing.
“… I think we’re still young enough!” Aika insisted, looking at her girlfriend with determined eyes. “We’ll worry about being adults when we’re Jun-senpai and Tanaka-senpai’s age.”
“Whatever you say,” Linlin chuckled, taking a hold of her lover’s hand. “Now let’s go have some fun!”
Grinning at each other, the two girls ran further into the park until all the various rides became visible. They looked around this way and that, trying to take in all of the colors and various sights. Although they had been to Disneyland many times before, it always felt like the first time every single visit.
“Which one first?” Linlin asked, her eyes practically spinning around.
“The teacups!” Aika exclaimed, pointing towards the ride.
Mittsi pulled her girlfriend along towards the Spinning Teacups with a circular fence around. There was a sign at the entrance with a drawing of Alice in the Wonderland with the Mad Hatter. The two girls managed to get in on their first wait in the line as they presented their wrist bands to the guy at the little gate. Then, the couple dashed to one of the teacups and sat together.
“Should we spin fast or slow?” Linlin inquired.
“Let’s go fast this time!” Aika grinned. “We haven’t eaten anything for the past four hours so it should be alright… I think.”
“The ride will start soon,” a voice boomed from the speakers. “Please keep your arms and feet inside the teacup at all times.”
Soon, a loud crazy music from the Disney movie started to play, and the entire ride started spinning. Aika and Linlin grabbed the handle in the middle of the cup and started turning and twisting it as well. Soon enough, they were spinning fast enough to not even see clearly.
“IT’S… A…” Aika sang out loudly off-key, her voice shaking from all the spinning.
“VERY HAPPY UN-BIRTHDAY!” Linlin finished, shouting along with the music.
“FOR ME?” Aika screamed, laughing.
“FOR YOU!” Linlin answered back, also laughing hysterically.
“A VERY—AAAAHHHHHH!” Aika attempted to continue, but failed as her singing turned into more joyous screaming.
Eventually, the ride came to a full halt as the two girls sat side by side, staring into empty space. Aika was the first to break back into reality as she shook her head and pressed her messy hair down. She then grabbed Linlin’s hand and dragged the frozen panda out of the teacup and out the gate.
“That was so much fun!” Mittsi exclaimed, bursting into giggles. “Wasn’t that fun?”
“So… dizzy…” Linlin mumbled, still unable to get her eyes to focus on one thing.
“Oh, come on, it wasn’t that bad,” Aika laughed.
“I think… I need to rest…” Linlin mumbled again, her eyes half-closing.
“O-oi!” Aika yelled, starting to slightly panic. “Don’t get sick on me!”
As Aika stepped closer and placed her hands on the panda’s shoulder, Linlin immediately turned her head and planted a quick kiss on her girlfriend’s lips. Aika gasped as she exhaled sharply in disbelief. Linlin just grinned, proud of her action.
“That was sneaky!” Aika said, narrowing her eyes. “You did that on purpose!”
“Well, I didn’t do it accidently,” Linlin laughed, shrugging. “I just wanted a kiss, that’s all.”
“You could just ask.”
“Oh. Then can I have one?”
“Nope,” Aika smirked. “Because you already stole one from me.”
“Is that how it works?” Linlin pouted.
“Hey, there’s a price for everything,” Mittsi snickered. “Come on, let’s go to the next ride!”
“Wait a minute…” Linlin said, holding her girlfriend back. “Look over there.”
Aika followed her girlfriend’s finger to the place she was pointing at. There was a little girl standing alone a couple feet away, looking around. She didn’t even look old enough to be in kindergarten.
“Mama?” the girl was calling, starting to slowly cry. “Mama!”
“I think she lost her mama!” Aika gasped. “Come on, let’s go help.”
The two girls quickly walked over to the lost child and crouched in front of her to get on the toddler’s eye-level. The girl noticed the sudden appearance in front of her, but continued to sob.
“Mama!” she screamed. “Mama!”
“Shh, shh!” Aika hushed, putting a finger to her lips. “Don’t cry, little girl! It’s okay, we’ll find your mommy! Look, look! … Peekaboo!”
As Aika covered her face and suddenly opened it again to reveal her smiling face, the girl watched intently for a couple seconds. But soon, she started to cry out even louder than before.
“Okay, okay, okay, look here now!” Linlin chided, stepping up to the plate. “Look, look! Funny face!”
The panda proceeded to stretch her cheeks out in odd angles, sticking her tongue out and disfiguring her face into something pretty ridiculous. The little girl watched with curiosity before she started to laugh at the teenage girl.
“Yay! She stopped crying!” Aika exclaimed. “Nee, little girl, what’s your name?”
“Nana!” the girl yelled, holding out four fingers. “Nana… yon-sai!”
“Kawaii~!” Aika crooned, completely won over by the little girl. “Well, Nana-chan, did you lose your mama?”
“Mama… mama…” the little girl started to mumble, the tears welling up again.
“Daijoubu, daijoubu!” the panda said quickly. “We’ll help you find your mama, okay? Come here!”
In one quick swoop, Linlin scooped up the toddler into her arms and stood up. Aika did the same and dusted her skirt.
“So… where do we look first?” Aika asked.
“Well, I guess the lost-child center?” Linlin guessed.
“Crepe! Crepe!” Nana happily yelled out, pointing at the nearest crepe stand.
“CREPE!” Linlin gasped, smiling dreamily. She could already taste the sweet dessert melting in her mouth.
“Well, I don’t mind getting crepes since you love them,” Aika smiled. “But you’re buying Nana-chan’s.”
“Doesn’t matter!” the panda decided. “Crepe it is!”
“Yay!” the toddler cheered. “Crepe! Crepe!”
And so, the little group bought three crepes to eat as they headed towards the lost-child center. Linlin immersed herself in her soy-bean crepe as Aika chose a peach crepe for herself as well as a strawberry crepe for Nana. The little girl was starting to look a lot more comfortable with the two girls now, enjoying the view up in Linlin’s arms (although it really wans’t that high up), and savoring the taste of her crepe. Soon, the company arrived in the center to report a lost girl.
“Could you make an announcement for the mother of this girl to come pick her up?” Aika asked the employee at the front desk.
“Her name is Nana,” Linlin added on.
“Nanami-chan?”
Aika and Linlin turned around to see a young woman, standing up from the bench. Nanami also turned around and smiled.
“Mama!” the toddler exclaimed, squirming to get out of Linlin’s arms. The panda set her down on her feet and the girl was racing off. “Mama!”
“Nanami!” the young woman yelled, a big smile stretching across her face. She knelt down and opened her arms just in time to bring her daughter into a tight hug. “Oh, Nanami! Where did you run off to? I was so worried about you…”
“Aw~ I love happy endings!” Linlin sobbed, sniffling.
“Yokatta ne?” Aika grinned. “It’s good that Nana-chan found her mama.”
“How could I ever repay you two?” the young woman said, lifting her daughter up. “At least let me compensate for the crepe, you really didn’t have to buy her that…”
“No, it’s okay!” Linlin said, shaking her head. “I’m happy to have shared the sweetness of my favorite dessert with someone! I think she liked it too, right, Nana-chan?”
“Crepe daisuki!” the toddler giggled, taking another bite out of her food.
Everybody laughed as they said their farewells and another round of thanks. Aika and Linlin left the childcare center holding hands, feeling pretty satisfied with their day so far.
“We don’t have much time left,” Aika said, checking her cell phone. “Let’s try to fit in a couple more rides!”
“Ikou, ikou!” Linlin agreed, as the two girls sprang into a quick jog again towards the main park area.
As they approached the next ride that had caught their eye, an attraction that took them through Snow White’s Adventures, the two students noticed a small commotion near the center of the park. Upon closer observation, they realized that a couple guys were harassing two high school girls, trying to get them to go along with them.
“Come on, ladies, we can show you a good time,” one of the boys said, laughing.
“Stop it, let us go!” the girls yelled in reply.
“Now, don’t be fussy,” another guys cackled. “Come with us. We can all have fun together.”
As the boy grabbed one of the girl’s wrist and tried to pull her into a hug (or more like a grope), he felt the back of is collar being pulled on hard, putting him off balance and making him almost fall backwards. All the attention directed towards the small girl that had pulled his shirt, who was now glaring at all the boys.
“Oi… didn’t you hear what they were saying?” Aika growled, glaring menacingly. “They said that they didn’t want to go with jerks like you!”
“What the hell is this kid saying?” one of the boys said angrily. “Run along, kids, we don’t have time to pay with elementary schoolers.”
“How rude!” Linlin gasped. “We’re already high schoolers, you know!”
“Yeah, and I’m warning you,” Aika continued, scowling. “You really don’t want to mess with me.”
“What the hell did you say?!” The boy that had previously grabbed one of the girls’ wrist charged towards Aika furiously. He threw a punch at her head but the yankii girl easily ducked away from the arm. She then twisted her body just enough to send her heel flying towards the boy’s ear, kicking him hard enough to make him drop to the ground. His other friends’ mouthes dropped open as well as the girls that were being harassed marveled at little Mittsi’s strength.
“Aika, that was great!” Linlin cheered.
“So… anybody daring enough to go next?” Aika beckoned with her hands, smiling sweetly.
“Why you little…!”
The second boy ran towards his opponent, ready to send a kick. But Aika blocked it with her forearm before shooting a punch with her other hand. The boy turned his head away just in time to save his face, but that move left him open for another one of Aika’s knee-kicks towards his stomach. The guy staggered back, clutching his paining abdomen, coughing.
“Hey, watch out!” one of the girls yelled.
“Aika, duck!” Linlin yelled.
The yankii obeyed promptly and crouched towards the ground. She saw her girlfriend speeding towards her before she felt Linlin’s foot against her shoulder. Linlin pushed herself up into the air and sent a kick towards the boy who was about to ambush Aika from her back, and sent him to the ground with his other knocked-out friends.
“Linlin, sugoii!” Aika exclaimed, holding her hand up for a high-five.
“I always got your back,” the panda said proudly, slapping her girlfriend’s hand and holding on to it.
“L-let’s get outta here!” one of the guys said to his friends. The boys got up and limped away as fast as they could, afraid that their opponent may attack them again.
“Yeah, you better run!” Linlin shouted, waving her fist. “You should be thankful I didn’t pull out my—”
“Linlin, not in public!” Aika interrupted, her eyes widening.
“Whoops,” the panda said, quickly covering her mouth. It was never good to announce publicly the fact that she was hiding weapons under her skirt.
“Onee-chan,” Aika said, addressing the high school girls who had been harassed. “You have to be careful of these kinds of jerks when you’re so pretty; they’re everywhere these days!”
“Okay, we’ll be careful,” the two girls giggled. “Thank you for helping us out!”
“That was pretty refreshing,” Linlin sighed, watching the two girls walk away. “I feel like I just let all my stress out.”
“Me too,” Aika grinned. “I really hate jerks like that… So, what’s next on our list?”
“Um… Actually…” the panda hesitated, “I think our time is up.”
“Huh?”
“I got a text from Jun-senpai while you were fighting and, well, she wants us to meet her at the park right now,” Linlin said carefully.
“Right now?” Aika asked, pouting. “But… but we just got here!”
“Actually,” Linlin sighed, “it’s already almost dinner time…”
Aika raised her eyebrows as she quickly took out her cell phone form her pocket. It really was nearing six o’clock! And she hadn’t really noticed but the sun was setting already as well, leaving the sky dyed orange.
“Mou~!” Mittsi whined, frustrated. “But we only got to go on one ride!”
“But we still had a productive day, I think,” Linlin said, trying to remain optimistic. “And we can always come back. I think I should get one of those annual passes too.”
“Yeah, you should!” Aika exclaimed, smiling widely. “Then we can come here all the time together!”
“Then let’s leave now, no regrets!” the panda grinned. “Jun-senpai and Shige-san are waiting for us.”
“Okay, let’s go!” Aika said cheerily, taking her girlfriend’s hand. She gave a quick peck on Linlin’s lips and smiled, leaving the panda stunned. “Linlin saikou! Everyday, I think you’re the best thing that’s ever happened to me. Arigatou!”
“… Psht! Maa maa… sonna… psht!” Linlin stuttered, trying to remain nonchalant but failing miserably. “That’s not really… I mean… psht! … Mittsi is the best to me too!” She gave a thumbs-up in the end, her cheeks dyed with pink, causing her girlfriend to laugh.
** ** **
“Ugh! What’s really taking them so long?” Junjun complained, stopping the swing that Sayumi was on.
“It’s only been a couple minutes,” the bunny said, looking up at her girlfriend. “And why are you being so impatient? That’s not like you.”
“It’s because I’m hungry!” the panda groaned, wrapping her arms around the swing chains and Sayumi with it. She placed her chin on her lover’s head and sighed. “I haven’t eaten anything in a while.”
The yankii leader had been pushing her girlfriend on the swing sets in the park, waiting for her lackys to show up. But the small wait was enough to tick her off today, because she had unfortunately run out of bananas at her house and wasn’t able to have her daily dose of her favorite food.
“Look!” Sayumi yelled, pointing at the entrance of the fenced-in playground. “Here they come now!”
“Gomen~!” Aika yelled, skipping into the sand box with her girlfriend’s arm linked with her own. “Did you wait long?”
“Yeah, we waited forever!” Junjun shot.
“Not really. That was actually pretty fast, considering you’re coming all the way from Disneyland,” Sayumi shrugged.
“What were you guys doing anyway?” Junjun asked. “When I texted you guys, Linlin said Aika was taking care of something…?”
“We had so much fun today, Senpai!” Linlin exclaimed. “You and Shige-san should have come too! It was amazing!”
“I took another picture with Mickey Mouse for my collection,” Aika blabbered, “and then we went on the spinning tea cups and we were spinning so fast—”
“And then we got off and we still couldn’t really see where we were going,” Linlin chatted along, “and then we saw this cute little girl who lost her mama—”
“And her name was Nana-chan and we had to find her mama—”
“And we even bought her a crepe while we were at it and then we took her to the child-care center—”
“And Nana-chan found her mama and her mama offered to pay for the crepe but Linlin refused because she’s just wonderful like that—”
“And then we came across these jerks that were harassing a couple girls and Aika beat them all up—”
“And one of them tried to get me from behind but Linlin got rid of him for me too—”
“IT WAS TOTALLY AWESOME!” the panda finished, a big grin stretched out across her face.
“Well, sounds like you guys did a lot of good things today,” Junjun smirked. “Sometimes, I feel like you guys forget that we’re actually yankiis? You know, like, gang members? That usually do… you know… bad things?”
“… Well… I think I accidently stepped on Mickey’s foot at one point?” Aika offered, smiling nervously. “I mean, I was too excited…”
“Yeah… and I think maybe we were spinning fast enough to make the next teacup people get even dizzier…?” Linlin guessed, shrugging.
“And… I made Nana-chan cry even more at one point!” Aika claimed, nodding.
“Yeah, yeah!” Linlin agreed quickly. “And… I’m pretty sure those jerks that we beat up will probably need to go to the hospital to get their bruises checked out…”
“Yeah, you guys are
really bad,” Junjun laughed.
“Well, a yankii is a yankii also because she lives the way she wants, right?” Aika insisted. “And we’re living the way we want!”
“Yeah! Jiyuujin da yo!” Linlin chimed in. “We’re free people!”
“Yeah, yeah, do what you want and think what you want,” Junjun grinned. “But for now, can we please go get something to eat?”
“Oh yeah, I’m starving,” Linlin moaned.
“What should we have?” Aika asked.
“Ano…” Sayumi spoke up softly, slowly raising her hand. “Can we maybe have… udon?”
“Usa-chan!” Junjun gasped, smiling. “That’s not very ojou-sama-like, isn’t it? Udon is common food!”
“S-so what!” Sayumi argued, looking up at Junjun with a determined face. “If I like it, I can eat it! I’ll be a Jiyuujin too!”
“Welcome to our world, Shige-san!” Aika laughed, high-fiving Sayumi’s held up hand.
“Is this the start of the glorious Usa-chan revolution?” Linlin grinned, shrugging her shoulders up and down in excitement.
“Usa-chan Revolution?” Sayumi asked, confused. “What’s that?”
“It’s something that you don’t have to worry about currently,” Junjun said quickly. “We’ll go eat first, okay?” The older panda glared at her lackeys who had guilt written all over their faces.
You guys are hopeless… Aika and Linlin looked at each other with wide eyes and shrugged together. Then they just grinned as they grabbed each other’s hands. Yes, they were hopeless. But they were hopeless
together. And that’s what made them so perfect.

And there you go! Some spotlight on AikaLin!

And next up is TanaKame, because I planned a couple more chapters after this... I didn't hit a complete wall yet
