Chapter 44 Reina closed the door behind her and turned the lock with one hand. Her other hand was being held on to by the turtle next to her who awkwardly took off her shoes and entered the kitten’s home. The hallway was very dark; the girls could barely see in front of them. But they could both still feel each other’s presence by their side.
“Shitsureshimasu,” Eri said, dropping her messenger bag to the ground.
“You don’t need to say that, no one’s here,” the shorter girl chuckled, letting go of her lover’s hand to take off her backpack. She started to feel around the wall for the light switch. “Why is it so dark in here?”
“It’s okay, don’t bother,” Eri said, taking Reina’s hands and pinning them against the wall. “We don’t need lights for our experiment…”
Reina’s cheeks blushed a deep red as she slowly closed her eyes to meet her girlfriend’s lips. What started out gentle and slow soon turned rougher and more passionate. One of Eri’s hands made its way down to the slim girl’s waist and to her thighs as she used the other hand to balance herself against the wall in a way that her lover wouldn’t be crushed. Moaning softly, Reina thrust her tongue into her lover’s mouth, eager for more. Her hands, now free from the turtle’s grip, immediately constricted around her partner’s neck and tangled into the short hair. Feeling her girlfriend get more and more into the action, Eri hitched up Reina’s leg around her waist, pulling the skirt up in the process. The kitten gasped as she felt a smooth hand stroke her ass and give it a gentle squeeze. As her competitive side burst into a fire, Reina started to furiously unbutton her lover’s shirt, pushing her hands in to feel two perfect molds on Eri’s chest. She felt the taller girl lose a beat as she let out a whimper and bit down on her lips; the kitten dn’t dmiss the slightest chance to start kissing her with as much passion as she could manage. She finally felt like they were on equal levels now since she had caught the turtle off guard. The two girls were in such bliss, addicted to their own love, that they didn’t realize the lights had suddenly turned on.
“Okaeri, Tanaka-senpa— WAH!”
The two lovers immediately turned to face a teenage girl, frozen in shock, with two other girls standing beside her. The shortest one had her mouth wide open as the tallest, black-haired girl snickered to herself. Eri gasped as she turned around to quickly button her shirt back while Reina cursed under her breath as she pushed her skirt back down and fished her wrinkled uniform.
“That was a nice show,” the tallest girl said, smirking. “You guys can continue if you want.”
“Shut the hell up, Junjun!” Reina growled, wiping her lips with her thumb to conceal the smudged lip gloss. “What are you doing in my house again?”
“Hey, it’s not my fault that you always leave your key under the first flower pot,” the panda shrugged. She craned her neck to the side to look behind Reina. “Good to see you again, Kame-chan. Everything worked out pretty well, huh? Did you score yet?”
“Ah, yes, everything worked out, thanks to you…” Eri laughed nervously, scratching her head. “And um… no, I didn’t… uh…
score… yet.”
“Aw, that’s cruel, Reina! You’re still holding back?” the yankii leader clicked her tongue. “How about you give Kame-chan here a prize for not giving up on you for so long?”
“How about you just shut up and be grateful that I’m not beating your face in right now, huh?” Reina said through her teeth threateningly.
“Ah… Reina? I think you should calm down,” Eri smiled nervously. “Your accent is coming out…”
“And you!” the ex-yankii yelled, whipping around to glare at her girlfriend, who was clearly stunned now. “Don’t actually answer her question like that…
score… or whatever! That kind of thing… Ugh!” Reina stomped in frustration as she blushed with embarrassment. She then quickly turned and ran up the stairs as Eri called behind her.
“I guess I teased her too much,” Junjun laughed.
“Um… I don’t think you should laugh, Jun-senpai,” Aika sighed. “Tanaka-senpai was really mad.”
“Sou, sou,” Linlin agreed, nodding.
“I’ll go up and talk to her,” Eri sighed, smiling. “She’ll be fine… I hope.”
“Don’t worry, she’ll be back to her usual self in no time,” Junjun rolled her eyes. “Reina doesn’t hold grudges. Anyway, when she’s feeling better, bring her down. We made dinner for everyone.”
“You me ‘us’,” Aika corrected, “as in Linlin and I. You just sat there trying to flirt with—”
“Okay, I’m going to go up now,” Eri interrupted, realizing these girls always had something to talk about one after another.
The turtle quickly skipped over the steps and approached the only bedroom door that was closed. She knocked on the door to receive a “go away” in return. Eri sighed as she entered the room anyway, closing the door behind her quietly. She looked around the room, realizing that she had never been in here before. The walls were spotlessly white as well as all the furniture, not that there was much anyway. The room was surprisingly plain with a generally white-and-gray color scheme with tall ceilings that seemed to end in an odd curve. There was a lump under the gray bed sheet in the center of the room.
“I thought I said to go away,” a voice said from the lump.
“You didn’t say, ‘please’,” Eri joked, smiling as she walked over and sat down on the edge of the bed.
“That’s not funny,” the kitten mumbled.
“Yeah, I know,” the turtle sighed. “Come out and talk to me, Reina, please?”
“I don’t want to,” the voice muttered.
“Are you mad at me?”
“Not you, it’s those annoying, pesky—”
“Friends?”
“… If ‘friends’ mean ‘mortal enemies’, then yeah.”
“Come on, Reina,” Eri chuckled. “Just show me your face. Please?”
After some silence, the gray lump started to move around. Reina sat up and poked her face out from the blanket, pouting and still obviously annoyed from Junjun’s previous comment.
“Good,” the turtle said. “Now, I’m sorry if I upset you back there. I didn’t mean to make you feel uncomfortable like that, I won’t do it again. I promise.”
“Why are you apologizing?” Reina mumbled, avoiding eye contact. “You didn’t do anything wrong.”
“But I feel like I may have encouraged Junjun more,” Eri sighed. “I shouldn’t do that. So I’m sorry.”
“… It’s okay,” the kitten also sighed. “I guess I was just frustrated from seeing that they broke into my home again. And also saw you and me… like that…”
“Oh yeah, that,” Eri said, blushing a little from remembering the previous make-out session. “Sorry about the skirt thing. I went too far.”
“No, I’m not upset that they saw me in… that position… or whatever,” Reina hesitated. “It’s just… it was our moment, you know? It was our world and then they just… broke it. I don’t want people to see us when I’m focused completely on you and you only. Am I being possessive?”
“Kind of,” Eri laughed, “but I like it that way. I’m kind of selfish when it comes to you, too.”
“No, you’re not,” Reina scoffed. “I think I’m the more obsessive one. Like today at the arcade and right now as well. It’s always been like this.”
“That’s not true,” the turtle argued. “Remember when we did that couple contest thing at the café? I didn’t want you up on that mic ‘appealing yourself’ or whatever because… well… you’re cute. You know, I was pretty pissed when everybody started to stare at you with googly-eyes.”
“Googly-eyes?” Reina giggled. “They were not looking at me like that.”
“Yes they were,” Eri said, also grinning. “And I glared back because I can be possessive too. Like… this can only belong to me.” With that, she quickly dove in to kiss Reina’s lips, causing her to turn red.
“You’re a smooth talker,” Reina muttered, clearly her throat, “saying things like that…”
“Well, is it working?” Eri smiled.
“Is there another option?” Reina mumbled. She then dropped the bed sheet from her head and snuggled closer to her lover. “I don’t know what I’d do without you.”
“Me neither,” Eri sighed, embracing the smaller girl. “Can we go back down and have some dinner now? I promise I won’t encourage Junjun anymore.”
“It’s okay now,” Reina sighed. “I can handle her. Thanks.” She quickly pecked Eri on the cheek and stood up. She also pulled the turtle back up by her hands and led her out of the bedroom.
The two lovers marched back down the stairs and turned into the kitchen. Aika and Linlin turned to look at them from the stove; they smiled when they sensed that Reina was in a better mood. The young couple was, once again, wearing matching aprons.
“Tanaka-senpai!” Aika yelled happily. “Genki?”
“Un, genki da yo!” Reina said, grinning. “What are you guys making?”
“It’s udon,” Linlin answered. “We thought about making some thick tonkatsu udon but we figured regular was better for Shige-san.”
“Shige-san?” Reina questioned, looking around the kitchen. She finally spotted an unfamiliar girl, seated on one of the stools by the counter next to Junjun. The panda stood up and pulled the girl along with her.
“Reina and Kame-chan, this is my girlfriend,” Junjun said proudly. “Usa-chan, this is my best friend Tanaka Reina and her girlfriend, Kamei Eri.”
“H-hajimemashite,” Sayumi mumbled, bowing a little. “Michishige Sayumi… desu.”
“Doumo, Kamei Eri desu,” the turtle introduced herself.
“Tanaka Reina desu,” the kitten said. “You talk kind of funny though. Like… you rehearsed your lines or something.”
“Because she did,” Junjun snickered. “I told you, Usa-chan, you have to loosen up.”
“I thought I did fine,” Sayumi muttered, looking down.
“She’s just a little shy in front of people she doesn’t know,” the panda grinned. “But you’ll see her black side when she gets to know you guys better.”
“Chotto!” Sayumi yelled, glaring up at her tall girlfriend, who only laughed.
“Well, I like her, she’s cute,” Reina said, sticking her tongue out at the yankii leader. “Can I call you Shige-san too? I don’t know what this girl did to make you her girlfriend but good luck being with this douche.”
“Ouch, that hurt, Reina,” Junjun said sarcastically, rubbing her cheek.
“Um, I hope we can become good friends, Shige-san,” Eri said, smiling at the black-haired beauty. “You can call me Eri.”
“… Doumo,” Sayumi mumbled again without making eye contact.
“Okay, everybody, the udon is ready!” Linlin announced. “Everybody head to the living room!”
“Why are we eating in the living room?” Reina questioned.
“I thought it would be better if we all sit on the floor to eat,” Junjun shrugged. “We’re eating udon after all, so I thought why not go all traditional. Besides, it feels more like a family, doesn’t it?”
When everybody entered the living room across the hallway, the short-legged rectangular table was already set up. Reina sat herself at the head of one side as Eri sank down next to her. Linlin sat on the other side of Reina as Junjun sat across from Reina. Sayumi started to sit next to Linlin before Junjun swung her over to sit next to Eri instead, so that Aika can sit next to Linlin. The pale-skinned girl seemed a little bit uncomfortable at first, but soon put on a determined face and sat down next to the turtle. She knew she had to start opening up now; Junjun was such a social person. If she wanted to keep up with her new girlfriend, she had to get over her phobias.
“Okay, here it is!” Aika announced as she came out from the kitchen holding a pot of udon.
She placed it in the center of the table and took off the oven mittens that she had on. As she did that, Linlin quickly ran back into the kitchen to get the tray full of bowls and chopsticks. Everybody passed aorudn the necessary utensils, making small chat while at it. As Aika opened the lid of the pot, all the girls started to comment on the food.
“Wah~ Oishii sou!” Eri breathed. “It looks delicious!”
“You still got it, huh, Aika?” Reina grinned.
“Ii nioi…” Linlin said, sniffing. “It smells really good…”
“It’s thanks to Linlin for helping me,” Aika smiled, answering Reina’s question.
“I’ll scoop!” Junjun volunteered, grabbing the ladle.
The panda sat on her knees and bent over to scoop up some noodles with the soup and poured it into Eri’s bowl. Then, she went around, one by one, distributing everybody’s share. She finally filled Sayumi’s bowl as well, and winked at her while at it.
“Okay, everybody as their food now, right?” Reina asked. She clapped her hands together as everybody else imitated her. “Seno!”
“Itadakimasu!” all the girls said at once, except Sayumi who mumbled something under her breath.
Everyone grabbed her chopsticks and started to dig into the food, complimenting the taste in between slurps and bites. As the ladle started to work around the table again for seconds, the conversation worked its way up pleasantly. Soon, everybody was telling funny stories and interesting events. At one point, Aika even gave a warning to the turtle.
“If you ever hurt Tanaka-senpai again,” she said in a low voice with a glare, “I will personally take care of you.”
“Understood,” Eri smiled. “It won’t happen again, Mitsui-san.”
“Fine,” Aika muttered. “… and… call me Aika.”
“Really? Is that okay?” Eri exclaimed. “Then, you can call me… whatever else you want to!”
“Say, ‘Kame-chan’!” Linlin encouraged. “Go on!”
“I’ll say it when I need to call her name!” Aika yelled, blushing a little.
“Don’t worry Kame-chan,” Junjun laughed. “Even if Aika’s acting angry right now, she actually likes you already. I can tell.”
“I do not!”
“Can I have more udon?” Reina asked, eliciting more laughter from everyone except Aika who pouted.
As the udon pot got emptier and emptier, the conversation made its way into various other categories, including things that had happened earlier in the day. Eri talked about how she butchered her essay so she could quickly get to her date with Reina as Junjun and her girls started to all talk at once about how Sayumi had climbed a tree to confess to the panda.
“Wow, you’re really something else!” Reina commented. “Most of the girls I’ve seen around Junjun just begged and whined but I guess you’re not like that, huh, Shige-san?”
“She’s completely different,” Linlin agreed. “Jun-senpai’s the one chasing her, the way I see it.”
“But I thought Shige-san climbed the tree?” Eri asked.
“If she waited one more day, Jun-senpai would’ve climbed it sooner or later,” Aika grinned.
“Psht, not true,” the panda scoffed. “I don’t need to do things like that to get my girls. They just come to me naturally.”
“You’re the one who followed me around first, playing games and everything,” Sayumi mumbled under her breath. “I didn’t even like you.”
“Aw, come on, Usa-chan, you must’ve had some interest in me,” Junjun pouted.
“Nope.”
“Hey, I like this girl!” Reina laughed. “She got you there, Junjun.”
“Strangely, I’m okay losing to this girl,” Junjun smiled, pulling the bunny into her lap and hugging her, despite the shy girl’s quiet protests. “I must be really crazy about her.”
“Stop that…” Sayumi mumbled, feeling her cheeks heat up.
“Well, I certainly admire you for climbing a tree, Shige-san,” Eri chuckled. “Why didn’t I think of that?”
“I’m glad you didn’t do that, Eri, you would’ve killed me with a heart attack,” Reina said, rolling her eyes.
“Maybe I should’ve suggested you climb a tree…” Aika said to herself.
“Let’s not get violent here,” Junjun laughed.
“Anyway,” Reina said, beaming, “you can drop by anytime you’d like, Shige-san. You must be something really special to have Junjun do the chasing. And if you’re my best friend’s special person, then you’re a friend of mine too. So visit when you’d like, okay? My home is your home.”
“… A-arigatou gozaimasu…” the bunny said quietly.
Home…? Sayumi looked around the table at everyone, smiling at her. Eri was already taking her cell phone out to exchange numbers. Aika and Linlin were trying to say something about what the gang could do now that Sayumi was obviously going to be a part of the gatherings now. Reina was also asking her what class she was in, which Junjun answered for her.
Junjun. And her warm arms could be felt around Sayumi’s waist, giving her comfort, love, and care.
Home… Yes, this was home. It was more of a home than a real home ever could be.
