Chapter 70 Takahashi-sensei idly stabbed her chopsticks through a piece of apple to bite off half of it and chewed slowly. After nearly half and hour, it had become almost habitual for the teacher to just nod along to everything her girlfriend was blabbering about. Lunch period was almost over, yet she was still talking about things that barely interested the older woman. Okay, maybe not barely, but there were certainly many other topics that would’ve caught Ai’s attention more. Considering that they rarely got some alone time together on the rooftop these days amidst the hectic preparations for the school festival, Ai couldn’t help but think that they were completely wasting time by just chatting about things that didn’t really apply to them.
“And you know, Kame is really worried, Sensei,” Risa was babbling, “and because Tanakacchi isn’t even moving from her seat in the hospital, Kame is getting distracted from her life too.”
“How unfortunate,” Ai sympathized. “But I’m sure everything will be fine, Kamei-san and Tanaka-san can work things out on their own—”
“And because Eri has to be there for Tanakacchi,” Risa quickly interrupted, as though she hadn’t even realized Ai was talking, “she keeps on missing play practice after school and during free periods, which makes Nakki take out her frustration on me. How unfair is that? I mean, I understand both Kame and Nakki’s position though, so I’m not even sure what to do.”
“I can see your point, Gaki-san,” the teacher tried again, “but I think that—”
“And it’s actually not very fair to the rest of the cast either, you know?” Risa continued without even taking a breath. “Everybody else is actually all memorized and stuff, but Eri isn’t. That really sucks, you know? And—HA?”
In a split second, Risa felt a pair of chopsticks shoving a grape tomato into her mouth. When she shut up for just long enough to turn and look at her teacher with a puzzled expression, she found her lips being captured by a familiar softness, kissing her slowly and gently.
“As interesting as all your words are, my love,” Ai murmured, “I’d much rather talk about other things.”
“Other things… like what?” Risa mumbled, her eyes nervously shifting left and right to avoid direct eye contact with the older woman.
“You know… like, us.” Ai chuckled as she sat back to lean against the fence again. “Talk about things that apply to you and me, things that we can learn from each other.”
Risa grumbled something under her breath as she stared down at her bento box. There was exactly half of everything left, from the rolls to the apples to the salad… right down to the number of sliced cucumbers. Obviously, her lover had taken care to eat nothing more than her portion while the bean was off prattling about random things. And she had had plenty of time to count how many of each there were while listening to Risa’s endless rambles.
At least this meant that Risa’s plan was working for a while. She had intended to talk non-stop throughout this lunch period to distract herself from thinking about her friend’s… “maturation”. Ever since Eri told her that morning of her becoming an adult with her dear Reina, Risa couldn’t stop thinking about how to carry out the deed with her own lover a little sooner. But she knew that she had promised Ai that she wouldn’t try anything, and that had brought forth a little self-conflicts within the bean. But now that Ai was directly requesting for her to talk about their relationship…
“You want me to talk about us?” Risa said determinedly. “I’ll talk about us. I have a question for you.”
“Go ahead,” the teacher grinned, pleased by how resolute her girlfriend sounded.
“Sensei,” Risa started, sending an unwavering gaze to her lover as though she was about to shoot lightening through her eyes, “what turns you on?”
“Oh, come on, Gaki-san!” Ai groaned, rolling her eyes. “Is this seriously the direction we’re going to take this thing? I mean, every single time—”
“Well, I’m not physically attacking you or anything!” Risa argued. “I’m not breaking any rules here. You never made me promise not to ask you questions in preparation for our… event.”
“… Sometimes I wonder why Gaki-san can’t just remain young and clueless like most other teenage girls…” Ai muttered, sighing in defeat. “Alright, just ask away.”
“What turns you on, Sensei?” Risa repeated, feeling even more encouraged by Ai’s tired expression.
“… To be quite honest with you, I’m not sure how to answer that,” Ai admitted, her eyebrows wrinkling to visibly show her brainstorming. “I don’t have any special… preferences… when it comes to such things…”
“There has to be something,” Risa insisted. “Think back! What made you happy when you… you know.”
Risa slightly blushed but kept her gaze firm to show that she wasn’t going to back down. Part of her was already regretting asking her teacher this question, but she couldn’t have helped it. The way Ai had kissed her before made her completely lose her focus. And the only that she could think of now was her turtle friend’s voice, echoing,
it does hurt at first… hurt at first…at first… first… first… “Well…” Ai thought out loud, breaking Risa out of her little flashback, “there was this one time, this girl—no, that wasn’t that good… Oh, but there was another time this guy, he—nah, that didn’t end too well either…”
“… Sensei, if you’re trying to make me more depressed than I already am, you’re succeeding.”
“Huh?”
Takahashi-sensei turned her head towards her student, who was pouting with her arms crossed. The bean’s gloom was visibly displayed in her frown, but that only made Ai chuckle at how immature she looked. When the teacher tried to put her arms around her, Risa shrugged her hands off. But as Ai continued to attempt to embrace her, Risa had no choice but to stop squirming and just let herself be hugged. Laughing to herself, Ai pulled her girlfriend towards her until she ended up on her lap in a perfect cuddle-position.
“Hey, I don’t want to upset you, okay?” Ai said softly, kissing the top of Risa’s head. “And I’m sorry if I did. I sincerely apologize. But I am answering your question honestly; I really don’t have a special… thing… that turns me on or whatever. I’ve just never thought about it before. But I’ll have you know that when our time comes, such a trivial matter will be the least of my concerns. The most essential thing for me will be that it’s you I’m making love to, and nobody else. And I hope that you feel the same way.”
“… I do…” Risa mumbled, feeling her cheeks get hotter by how her teacher said, “making love”.
“Then we’re on the same page,” Ai smiled, squeezing her girlfriend. “Feeling better?”
“A little,” Risa shrugged, imagining the echo of Eri’s voice getting further away. “We should clean up the bentou…” But when the bean tried to push herself off of the older woman, Ai only constricted her arms around Risa tighter, reluctant to let go.
“Let’s stay like this for a while,” Ai suggested, rocking her girlfriend back and forth. “You’re so cute right now, like a big baby.”
“Mou, Sensei!” Risa complained, trying to squirm her way out of Ai’s embrace again. “I’m not a baby so don’t treat me like one!”
“Yeah, I suppose I shouldn’t,” Ai grinned, “because if you were really a baby, I wouldn’t be able to do
this…”
Twisting her neck an angle to properly make eye contact with her young lover, Ai leaned in to kiss that familiar softness, using her tongue to trace the outline of Risa’s lips. Moaning softly so that only Ai could hear, the young girl responded eagerly to the kiss as she wrapped her arms around the teacher’s neck.
“Mm… you’re so good at this now…” Ai mumbled against her girlfriend’s lips. “But I hope I’ll be the only one to know just how sweet your kisses are…”
“Don’t worry, you are,” Risa whispered before taking charge in capturing her lover’s lips again.
“Then I hope you won’t mind me watching your play rehearsal after school today?” Ai murmured, kissing Risa’s neck before going back to her lips.
“… You really can’t trust me and Kame?” Risa groaned.
“It’s not a matter of trust; I’m just curious,” Ai smiled innocently, which didn’t convince the bean too much.
“… Are you going to behave?” Risa asked, raising an eyebrow. “No jealous rage like before?”
“First of all, I wouldn’t even call my previous action a ‘rage’,” Ai smirked. “I could definitely get angrier than that… And second of all, yes, I will be a perfect lady while watching my students practice.”
** ** **
The black-haired girl quickly glided down the hallway, tossing an apple into the air and catching it. She was indeed walking, but the speed that she was going at told otherwise, since she was in quite a happy mood. Sayumi couldn’t stop putting that slight spring into her steps as she made her way through the school, a bright red apple from the lunchroom in hand.
She had continued to daydream during class non-stop about the glory that was her previous night with her true love right beside her. She had gotten caught spacing out by the teacher a couple times but she didn’t care; nothing could ruin the happy mood she was in today. Junjun and she had finally become one, in a sense that they were really bound to each other by endless love. Sayumi herself had never realized before that she was such a romantic, but she supposed that quality was only drawn out because of Junjun.
Smiling down at her apple, the bunny rubbed the fruit as if to make it clean enough to see her own reflection. Satisfied by the squeaky noises it made, she opened her mouth to take a bite out of it. But just as her teeth made the slightest graze on the apple skin, Sayumi felt somebody putting an arm around her shoulder to weigh her down. Actually, it was two somebody’s.
“You seem happy today, Shige-san~” Linlin grinned from the bunny’s left, patting her shoulder.
“Did you sleep well last night?” Aika snickered from Sayumi’s right. “Or rather, did you hardly sleep?”
“Mou, you guys!” Sayumi whined, blushing as bright as the apple in her hand. “Don’t talk like that…”
“Come on, tell us all the dirty details!” Linlin encouraged. “Well, not all the details but just enough for us to know how it went, you know?”
“Just give us a summary,” Aika chimed in. “Don’t go too much into the main plot.”
“… I… I mean… I don’t know!” Sayumi dropped her head to stare at her feet, so embarassed that she could barely answer. She was happy imagining and remembering in her own mind, but saying it out loud… that was a whole different ball game.
“Come on, Shige-san!” Linlin groaned. “Did Jun-senpai like it? The bunny costume? Our gifts?”
“We have to know how it ended up for our client,” Aika urged. “So tell us, how was it?”
“… I-it… It was…”
“A wonderful night, thanks to you two not being there,” Junjun cut in, as though she had appeared out of no where. Before the three girls could even turn around, Aika and Linlin felt themselves being pulled back by their collars to stand on either side of their leader. They both laughed nervously as they swallowed hard in fear of Junjun’s tight smile.
“Junjun!” Sayumi remarked, forever grateful for her timing on her entrance.
“S-senpai,” Aika chuckled anxiously. “We were, uh… just, um… greeting Shige-san!”
“Mm-hm,” Junjun raised an eyebrow, already knowing what had really happened. “Let me ask you two a question… since when am I into cosplay?”
“Well… you’re not,” Linlin mumbled.
“Yeah, you’re not,” Aika admitted quickly, “but we just thought that maybe—”
“So why would you tell Sayumi here that she should wear such a skimpy outfit as the one you gave her?” Junjun questioned again, smiling.
“We… uh, thought—”
“Well, you thought wrong,” Junjun interrupted again. She pushed her two underlings against each other to make them stand shoulder-by-shoulder so she could address both of them together. “If you don’t want to get hurt, you’ll get out of my sight and stay out of my sight for the rest of the day, understood?”
Aika and Linlin quickly looked at each other and looked at their yankii leader again. They quickly nodded after swallowing in fear, and ran off to their classroom. Sayumi gave a small wave towards them as they scattered, before taking a step towards her girlfriend.
“Weren’t you a little harsh on them?” she asked. “They were just trying to help.”
“Don’t worry, I would never actually hurt them,” Junjun grinned,” and they know that too. We’re so close that even if I say something like that, they’ll probably show up again by tonight.”
Then, the panda grabbed her girlfriend’s wrist and brought up the apple in her hand up to her mouth until she could take a bite out of the juicy fruit. Nodding in satisfaction at the sweet flavor, Junjun put her arms around Sayumi and started to walk her down the hallway.
“And I hadn’t even tasted it yet…” Sayumi mumbled, staring at the bite mark in her apple.
“Think of it as me taste-testing it for you,” Junjun grinned. “Now you know it tastes good. It’s safe~”
“Alright then,” Sayumi giggled, taking a small bite of the fruit. “How as your day been.”
“… Honestly, terrible,” the yankii sighed, scratching her head.
“Why?”
“I got yelled by the teacher every single period,” Junjun shrugged. “I usually at least pretend to listen, but today I was completely zoned out. My head had no room for school today; it was filled with other thoughts.”
“Thoughts… of what?”
“Of you, what else?” the panda laughed, allowing Sayumi’s cheeks to turn pink with joy. “Man, I’ve never obsessed over a girl like this before, seriously… you’re going to be the death of me one day.”
“No I won’t,” Sayumi argued. “Unless you die of happiness… then I’ll do my best to be your cause of death.”
“I think today might be a good day for dying,” Junjun winked. “Dinner at my house? Maybe… a sleepover?”
“Straightforward, aren’t you,” Sayumi mumbled shyly, biting her apple again.
“That wasn’t straightforward,” Junjun scoffed. “You know, I could’ve just said—”
“I don’t need you to say it!” Sayumi interrupted with a smile, putting a finger to her girlfriend’s lips. “Dinner sounds lovely. And… maybe a sleepover.”
“It’s a date,” Junjun grinned. “I’ll make you udon.”
“Yatta!” Sayumi exclaimed, her eyes lighting up. “I’ll look forward to it then!”
Junjun laughed at her girlfriend’s cute reaction as they continued to walk back to their classrooms. Just being together made the world seem so much brighter and perfect that neither of the lovers planned to let go of these moments any time soon.
