tried to rediscover titles of the past, first on the list is.
(yay mini reviews/rants)
Suikoden 2 - i played the first one just last year, and finally, i was able to hunt down a copy (man, this game is pricey in ebay, thank god for friends who dunno anything about collector value ), and whoa, it's a vast improvement, and prolly one of the best 2D based RPG's for the PS1 imo (okay, rivaling, ValkrieProfile), the effects and animations are slick, considering the hardware... though i dunno, about the War system on this one, it's more boring, (TileBased SRPG style), but it's interesting to see the multitudes of new, and old characters again. one of my major gripes though is the interface, it's still pretty bland and confusing, making it look like an early PS1 game.. i'd wish they could have spiced it up a bit and improved the wording (i mean, Status menu is called Strength menu, that's a bit odd).. stil overall, one of the better RPGs i've played for the ps1, which isnt by square/enix.
Rhythm Tengoku - okay, fairly new, but the GBA is practically -dead- , so anyways, i only bought this cuz the music in the game was done by the godly, Tsunku. (he after is responsible for the harem that is Hello! Project), anyways, ya, great use of the GBA's resources, but i wish this was done on better hardware, like DS or PSP, for the benefit of better music and visuals. GBA seemed crippled for these type of games..
Ryu ga Gotoku - Yes, fairly new still, but i was playing 'Yakuza" back then, i decided to get the japanese version (for collection), mainly because of my anal-ness for japanese culture. The thing which makes Yakuza a failure port imo, is the language change, it's like making a Mafia game, and making them talk in British accent, etc, it's not the same. Sure i still struggle with my poor japanese, but then i get a better experience out of it... one of the better parts of playing it in Japanese is the authenticity of it all, it's like watching a Beat Takeshi film, with less gore and torture, too bad the game is a bit, simple, so to speak, it's Shenmue+Spikeout+BloodyPoorFightingSkills. hehe. im such a sucker for yankii's and yakuza related stuff ...
