Chapter 8: 18 hours to Foreshadowing

Reina buried her head under Sayu’s pillow and groaned, “I’m pathetic. Please tell me only you noticed and not the whole goddamn hospital?”

Wha-?

“Actually, we’ve been too busy to notice you,” Risa piped up, leaning against the doorframe, dressed in her footie pajamas, complete with tail. “Tsuji-san asked us if we wanted in on the betting pool for the both of you, was how we realized.”

so the whole hospital did realize. Oh, on the side note, Risa is cute like that >__<

Ai was glued to her pink Nintendo DS, but somehow negotiated her way into Sayu’s room and onto the recliner. Eri trailed in after her and shuffled sleepily over to Sayu’s bed, climbing in next to Reina and spooning her.

Woah, all of them gathered at Sayu’s room, what is it? Some kind of meeting xD~~. Ah, but, what Ai did, kinda remind me of how I used to read a book while walking, it’s dangerous though lol

“That’s all I’ve been doing all fucking morning. Time of death: 12:56pm.” Reina felt hot tears of frustration sting behind her closed eyes.

I feel really bad for Reina here. I never could imagine how a doctor felt when they have to inform such thing to the patient’s family.

“No, I meant, how do you deal with all this and Fujimoto-san everyday?”

Eri’s awesome at some point. No, really..she’s really awesome, dealing with Fujimoto-san like that everyday.

Aibon peered around her armful of pillows and stuffed toys to give Yossi a sweet smile, “Not unless you plan to fork out half the rent, Tou-chan.”

Tou-chan? Huh? Otou-chan? Daddy? O_O whose the Kaa-chan then? Rika?

‘Sounds different, though,’ was Reina’s last thought before falling asleep.

Reina cant sleep without hearing other’s people heartbeat? Ah, the habit she got from always sleeping with Maki.

“Don’t worry, Kame. Our talents will never be appreciated until we’re dead, like Picasso.” Miki declared dramatically.

Kaori was the last to arrive, closing the door behind her, “Who’s dying? Fujimoto, nani sore? Shiitake?”

“The last time you said that when you were drunk, Kei-chan had to bail our hungover asses out of jail at six in the morning just in time for patient rounds.”

Ai took the bottle of vodka from the mini-fridge, and as an afterthought, pulled out a carton of chocolate milk as well. She drank first from the carton, and then took a gulp of vodka.

Umm, what’s the use of vodka+milk mixed? To relief stress?

“I told him we needed to burn the warts off with acid or liquid nitrogen. He passed out.”

“I don’t know if the rest of the girls are up to it.”

“More joy for us then.”

Ho? Gaki-san is really sneaky lol

Yawning, she flipped on the light to illuminate the room and rubbed the sleep from her eyes and face and was shocked as her hand came away sticky with blood.
Her heart stopped as she stared down at her blood-covered pillow. “Oh, shit.”

Wah? What’d she did? What’d happened to her? Umm..could it be that she forget to wash her hands after she’s treating a patient? Or…is it something bad? She wasn’t sick, was she? O_O

Did you know: Residents can have crazy shifts up to 24 hours long.

I could imagine it when I am being at the, what’s it called, oh, emergency room. When I was there, I could see how busy that room was. Kinda scary actually. >___<’

Chapter Nine

“Miki, I need you to cover my morning rounds with Takahashi,” Yossi whispered into her phone.

“Dare?” Came the surprisingly alert, albeit irate reply.

“My intern, Takahashi Ai.”

“Ah. Bukkake. Why the hell? I’m not due in til 10am.”

Yossi peeked down at the reason why, shifting slowly as not to wake it. “She’s not due in ‘til 10 either. Please, Miki, I really, really need you to take her for today,” she begged in a low voice, not wanting to wake anyone, but most importantly, not wanting to jar her throbbing head.

“Shit. You guys are killing me. Next thing I know Rika-chan and Gocchin’ll be calling me.”

A small whimper of discontent emanated from the warm body pinning her down onto the bed and Yossi froze, holding her breath until the movements settled. “I don’t think you’ll have to worry about that.”

“Whatever. I hope you understand that this means yakiniku. With many meats of fabled renown.”
   
“Yes, yes. Unicorns and babies, your favorite. I promise,” Yossi breathed testily, cutting the line and tossing her mobile aside.

“Yossui, are you still drunk?” Maki asked sleepily, close to her ear, tightening her hold around Yossi’s neck.

“Shut up and figure out how to pry your stupid intern off me before she wakes up.”

Miki snapped her mobile phone close and turned her attention back to the shivering, half-naked Eri she had managed to corner.

“Hayaku, pantsu wo nuge.” Miki commanded.

“Pa- pantsu?” Eri stuttered, gripping the waistband of her last article of clothing tightly.

“Your scrub pants, Kame.”

“Can’t I just go downstairs get you a set of blue scrubs?” Eri implored pitifully, her pants already halfway off.

“Does it look like I want to spend another minute in these?” Miki retorted, gesturing towards the pink scrubs she was wearing. The words ‘Fujimoto Miki, OB/GYN’ was written in block letters across the front of the top with a marker.

Miki had woken up in the maternity ward to the sounds of babies crying. A photocopy of a hastily handwritten letter issued by Chief Nakazawa approving her admission to the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department due to ‘her passionate interest for female reproductive organs’ was taped to her forehead. It was countersigned by Miki herself, if the drunken scrawl counted as a signature.

‘Damn senpais,’ she seethed, dodging into an empty room as she tried to figure out a way to get off the floor without being seen and ridiculed. A quick call to her intern had brought Eri scrambling to her aid. It was a testament to Miki’s vigorous conditioning that Eri did not even protest- or rather, she did protest albeit feebly, but still moved promptly to obey Miki’s orders.

“Solid work. See you later.” And with that, Miki dashed out of the room, pulling on Eri’s clothes and leaving behind a thoroughly confused intern clad in nothing but her underwear.

Gathering the shreds of her dignity and the pink scrubs Miki had left behind, Eri examined the scrub top with Miki’s name on it.

“I could totally make an effigy out of this,” Eri mumbled aloud, remembering the latex blow-up doll she had stashed in her room, courtesy of last week’s porn run.

She was so caught up in her passive-aggressive musing that she didn’t notice Yuko walking into the room until the chief was almost close enough to scare the pants off her, had she some.

“Ara, what do we have here?”

“Nakazawa-sa… sama!” Eri jumped, clutching Miki’s top against her body.

Yuko liked her already. Smirking at the almost-naked stammering intern, she eyed the pink scrub top with Miki’s name on it and put two-and-two together. Kaori was standing by the door giggling- the two chiefs came by to retrieve Miki and view the aftermath of their prank, not expecting to discover Eri in her stead.

Shrugging out of her white lab coat, Yuko draped it over Eri and ruffled her hair. “Come on, cute stuff. If you’re gonna burn an effigy of your senior resident, I should get to watch and laugh, at least. God knows there have been enough burning effigies of me around here.” With an arm around Eri’s shoulders, Yuko led the intern out of the room.

“Burning latex and silicon is harmful to the environment,” Eri responded absently, to the confusion of the two seniors.

“I like this batch,” Yuko remarked happily to Kaori.

Iida was quiet the entire walk down the hallway, a disturbed look on her face. Punching the lift doors close, she murmured broodingly, “No, I can’t think of a pun for this one.”

Morning couldn’t come soon enough. Aya stared out her window, slumped over her desk piled high with textbooks and case notes. A sharp rap on her room door jolted her to action.

“Aya-chan?”

“Come in!” Aya called, sitting on her bed, hyperaware of the pillow behind her, now flipped face down to hide the bloody evidence of last night’s episode.

“We missed you last night, Ayaya,” Rika smiled at her, taking a seat at Aya’s desk and examining the open book on top of the pile. “Studying?”

Aya gave Rika a sketchy nod and changed the subject, “So, how was the party last night?”

Rika was cursed with perfect recall of every one of her drunken misadventures. As if that wasn’t enough, a HD recording of her behavior the previous night would always show up at breakfast the next morning like a post-mortem debriefing, courtesy of the Two Top.

“Rika-sama made an appearance. I was hanging halfway over Kago-chan’s balcony rail, loudly propositioning streetwalkers and complimenting their breasts.” Rika grimaced, recalling how Yossi was hanging onto her legs, emphatically telling her she was going to ‘fall to her fucking death and dash her goddamn brains all over the pavement/prostitutes’.

“Streetwalkers?”

“Dodgy neighbourhood, cheap rent.”

“Souka.”

“Didn’t Miki come look for you last night? She came back to the dorms kinda early with the senpais,” Rika asked, puzzled.

Aya shook her head, “No, but I did hear them come back, though.”

“Anyway, wanna go grab some breakfast? I need to sit down with you and talk about Mori-kun’s surgery.”

“Sure, let me go wash up and get changed.”

Rika swiveled around in the chair when a blood-stained shirt in Aya’s laundry hamper caught her eye. Scooting closer to examine it, she frowned at the volume of blood on the shirt. “Ayaya?”

Aya popped out of the bathroom, in the midst of brushing her teeth and froze as she noticed what Rika was staring at. Sighing, she ducked back into the bathroom to spit and turned to see Rika at the doorframe with a concerned look on her face.

“I don’t know how that lipstick got on my collar, honest,” Aya joked weakly.

The interns had the run of the cafeteria that morning, save for the odd loiterer from the breakfast rush. They got to start off a little later today, since their senior residents were somehow coincidentally, conveniently scheduled to a later shift the day after a massive party.

Eri was cheerfully recounting her traumatic anecdote to her doukies, finding it more humorous now with breakfast in her system. That, and having Sayu pat her head excessively to comfort her worked wonders.

Ai was slumped over the breakfast table, throbbing head resting on her arms. “You don’t have to be so worried, Gaki-san. I’m perfectly fine,” she said hoarsely to a fussing Risa.

Risa continued petting her friend’s head with one hand, clutching a paper bag with the other. “Of course I’m concerned, Ai-chan. You were really out of it last night.”

“You were screaming ‘won’t you take me to funky town’ over and over again at the top of your voice.” Sayu laughed.

Miki appeared at their table and abruptly pulled up a chair, shocking the table into silence. “Funky Town is th’ best song evar,” nodding in approval at the prone intern.

She tossed an IV bag at Eri and placed a bottle of oxygenated water on the table. “Here, I bring gifts. Get to it, Kame- and then fetch me my breakfast foods.” Eri dutifully broke the seal on the IV needle and started the line on Ai without a single word of protest.

“Don’t think just because you’re doing one nice thing for Ai-chan that it absolves you of all the crap you put them through.” Niigaki glared at Fujimoto ineffectually, and Miki glared right back.

Miki sneered, “Nice? I just need her to be at the top of her game today because the last thing I need is for a hungover intern to puke into my patient’s abdominal cavity.”

“What?” Ai jumped up suddenly. “Ow!”

“Don’t move, Ai-chan,” Eri scolded, taping the needle down.

“Yocchan decided to let you scrub in with me and Kame today and we’ll be cutting open your very first colorectal. Isn’t that exciting?”

Ai turned pale at that and Risa rushed to place the paperbag to her face.

I need new animals for my update dance!  But since I don't have time to search new animals I want a lizard next!, I used penguin heavy rotating at full speed to express my excitement . A whole good hour of reading and fangirling xD At 5 in the morning. xD I’d only stay up that late for you~ (and I mean that in the most innocent way possible :3)

^ and wow, look how much prettier our convos can be. 

Okay, so chapter 8 is just way too epic, I have no idea how to start this comment.  Seriously though, as ropychan will tell you just as enthusiastically, EVERY single damn sentence in this chapter can be quoted and squeeeeed over.  I think it’s a much better idea for grac to post shorter chapters, so I won’t look like I’m quoting a story’s worth of goodness. 

Anyway, I’m not sure if this comment is going to do the chapter any justice, but I’ll try.  I’ll give you my thoughts on each scene, and maybe include a favourite quote or two. Or three. Or more. Gaaaaaaaah, I hate you and your quotableness!    It’s infuriating.

I’ve been feeling kind of HarryPottersick (just watched Hallows again ;___; ), so here goes…

Scene #1:

*Reina and the fail GoRokkies intervention*

So, here we have Reiki progress. Well… a little bit of regress at the beginning, but then back into full swing at the end there with the yankii yanking (aw that sounds cute) Dr. Goto into her room and shutting the door behind them. Um. Yum?  xD I do think Reina and Maki make a pretty damn good-looking couple. I also like Reina’s foulness in this chapter, it’s endearing somehow.  I don’t usually say much in regards to what I like about Reina (though that genuine, toothy smile of hers is a GODSEND), but I guess, thanks for the opportunity here? The ‘intervention’ from the others was cute. Nobody seemed to know what was going on (Sayu & Eri  ) or care much (gamer!Ai-chan ). I’m not even sure that Gaki-san put all that much effort into it. xD But it was nice reading about GoRokkies; any time with the lot of them together is happy time! 

“Or the fact that you’ve been surgically attached to Dr. Gottsuan’s fine ass the past week?”

YES. You can count on Sayu to say the best, life-affirming things.  And I just love the way our girls play around with the medical language. It’s a combination of hilarious and cute and I can’t get enough of it! 
   

Risa piped up, leaning against the doorframe, dressed in her footie pajamas, complete with tail.

   

If that were Eri you’d given the footie pyjamas to, I’d probably have died.  I’m sorry, I’m just so Eri-biased. But Gaki-san works too. 

Ai was glued to her pink Nintendo DS, but somehow negotiated her way into Sayu’s room and onto the recliner.

Practice makes perfect.   You can tell this one can probably weave through any obstacle course without a problem. Thank you grac, for gamer!Ai-chan. The mere mention of her sends me into kyaaaa mode. 

And why does Eri climb into SAYU’S bed only to spoon Reina? ;____;

“Please don’t sleep with- I mean, have sex with Gottsuan. Not until Thursday. ‘Cos that’s when Dr. Fujimoto has her bet ‘til-“

Scene #2:

*GoRookies and the bonding over breakfast hilarity*

Okay, so upon reading this particular scene for the first time, I really couldn’t stop squeeing and rereading. There’s this. Um. Particular TakaGaki scene. THAT PWNS ALL.

And everybody would’ve enjoyed all the sleep-sex chaos that was thrown back and forth (except maybe one wee little friend of ours… ). Oh grac, you sure do know how to entertain. Also, I really loved how you have everybody in character; Ai, Gaki-san, Eri, Sayu, Reina. Their characters are perfectly moulded here and it’s always such a pleasure watching them interact.   

“…. Mou, Ai-chan- stop that,” Risa complained as Ai stirred a spoonful of grape jelly into the sticky mixture.

“Shh. I’m cooking.”

Ai held up a spoonful of her oatmeal, staring intently at Risa’s lips with her own mouth half-open as if to will those pursed lips to accept her concoction. Risa gave the offering a suspicious look, but obliged her friend and consumed the brownish-grey oatmeal without complaint.

“Oishii?”

Risa shook her head, but opened her mouth for a second spoonful anyway.

THIS THIS THIS!!!!!!

The TakaGaki fangirl in me had a bloody field day right there! 

It’s too freaking cute. ;____; If that is Ai-chan’s idea of cooking… sensei, please teach me! 

Gaki-san not enjoying but opening her mouth “for a second spoonful anyway”… kill me now. 

Midway through the third ring, Reina picked up, short of breath and panting heavily, “I’m- coming. Wait,” she growled. They heard Maki’s voice calling for Reina and the line disconnected abruptly.

Everyone in the vicinity stared at their table, shocked and Sayu broke the silence by laughing and clapping her hands gleefully, “Omoshiroi!”

LMAO. 

It is SO like Sayu to say something like that, whilst everybody else is in various states of o____o hahahahaaa… the timing is spot on, grac… I’ve told you before already, but I’m always in awe of the comedy (or crack, whatever you wanna call it). This had me guffawing, even on the second read through. 

And I wonder if one of our little, fellow readers got this moment. xD *Bee whistling innocently~*

…a sweat-drenched Reina stomped up to the table…

I’d love to see this. 

Just because, I have never seen Reina sweat before. I don’t think anybody has.  If Reina sweated (and it was all shiny and glistening, for our viewing pleasure), she might go up in my ranks. 

“I think we should stop saying sleeping- having sex like it’s a subcategory. I can tell what you mean by the context of the sentence.” Risa deadpanned.

I love this, just because. :3

Scene #3:

*Miki-sama and the laws that could threaten a bladder*

This scene was great – it is made of too much Fujimoto goodness. I love this woman – she is the birth of so much crack and hilarity. Every time she makes an appearance, I can’t help but start to grin, even before a word is uttered. Ahhhh. <333 

“Number one: my word is law. If I tell you to do something, you do it. If you don’t get why, you ask *after* you’ve done it,” Miki enunciated clearly.

Can I print this rule off and hang it up in all my classrooms? Credits to Miki, of course.

”…If I’m sleeping, don’t wake me unless your patient is actually dying and the dying patient better not be dead when I get there. Not only will you have killed someone, you would have woken me for no good reason. We clear?”

Miki just radiates a wiseness beyond her years. I wish I could sound that cool.  Lol.

Hilariously Miki. Though if I were one of the GoRokkies there, I’d probably be peeing myself. 


Scene #4:

*W and the foamy last mission*

Awwww. This was a totally bittersweet kind of scene – specially with that last line. I know ropychan will probably do this scene a lot more justice fangirling-wise, since she’s the bigger W fan between us, but I do have to say this really was a precious moment.    Morning Musume was so much fun when the two were still around to stir up mayhem and still managing to stay totally cute at the same time. <3

Rika appeared before them fully-dressed and covered in white froth. “I swear, if I’m late for my shift…“ she threatened, eliciting a fresh bout of laughter from the two.

Mama Rika covered in foam. Bee likes. <3    

Even if this is a sort of goodbye between the two troublemakers… ;____; I know for sure it isn’t the end of them in this fic. Right? Grac is going to bring on the drama. 


Scene #5:

*Kaorin and the much anticipated pun that is surprisingly appreciated*

Kaori’s like some kind of wise elder who speaks in riddles, lol… if Kei-chan had to react with a full-on-the-lips kiss and all. xD

“So, are you making any headway on your Psych case?”

 

She could still smell the maple syrup in her hair despite numerous shampooings.

Gawd, those two are unruly! xD

I’d never understand how they get the courage to do these kind of things to their senpais… 


Scene #6:

*Rika-Niigaki-Kei combi and the case that kind of escapes Bee*

It’s all nice and lovely to see these girls in action and all, but it’s a little hard to understand what’s going on with all the medical jargon xD I mean, if this were House or Grey’s Anatomy or something, I think I could just understand it better thanks to the visuals… but… you kind of lost me with what was going on with the patient. Growth? As in a tumour? 

Oh, and I understand Code Brown well enough. Is this for real???

"Oh my God, I have to get to a toilet quick, I have a Code Brown!!" --- I love Urban Dictionary. 

”…Psych cases are a lot more, creative, with their biowaste than most other patients.”

Scene #7:

*KameShige and the elevator ride of pure cuteness*

There’s no guessing as to whether or not I liked this scene – I enjoyed it too much ;_____; I really liked the little details. Sayu’s arms laden, her little pinky jabbing at buttons, Eri’s voice blurring in her ears, her steadying hands. GOSH.  The scene playing out in my head was all the more vivid and despite the lack of romantic KameShige, I was all giddy reading this. I just think there’s no going wrong with KameShige. Put the two of them in the same scene and I’m a fangirl mess. 

“You’re such a lifesaver. What would I do without you?” Sayu pretended to swoon, clutching at Eri’s arm and pressed a playful kiss onto her friend’s cheek.

What was the purpose of putting in ‘pretended’ and ‘playful’ here, grac? No seriously? =___=

But waaaaahhh, playful or no playful, kiss is good 
 

“Well, technically, bad news for them means good news for us. We’ll get to recommend surgery and maybe get to participate. It’s good news all ‘round, actually.”

Evil!Sayu is evil!  This makes me kinda wonder how gently Sayu would break news of death to family members… xD

Eri considered her friend with a pained look, “You know, sometimes, it’s like I don’t know you anymore.”

First of all grac, this should’ve been two sentences (I’m sure you’d remember why xD you made this same mistake a lot…), and secondly, you’d think that Eri would be immune to Sayu’s depravity by now. 

“Yosh! Minimally invasive endoscopic pituitary surgery, come on!”

Gotta love the way Sayu tackles life. 


Scene #8:

*Doctor Reina and the true horrors of a hospital*

This was sad… I got teary reading this little bit. No crack in this scene, but it was a much appreciated change of pace from the breakneck speed of crack delivery everywhere else. 

Poor, poor Reina. ;____; Well.. this makes me think – poor, poor doctors in general.  How taxing that must be, to hold the lives of so many in your hands, and when it doesn’t go well… having to break the news to loved ones. That stuff… the thought alone… horrifies me 

“What did you think trauma code duty meant, genius? Go out and inform the families now- don’t you dare do all six at once.”

I guess Miki’s just showing Reina how harsh the reality of working in a hospital can be, and it’s her job to make sure Reina can tough it out mentally. But. I just couldn’t help but feel this was mean. 

And this also makes me wonder – should Reina be handling stuff like this so soon anyhow? Is that how it works for doctors in training? ‘Coz damn, respect. 


Scene #9:

*Doctor Ai-chan and the diseased penii*

AiEri! My two favourites.  Bonding in these dire times <3

“Look, you’re a doctor, these are diseased penii. Deal with it.”

 

Hey, Doctor Fujimoto, please cut Ai-chan some slack – she was going to do her job, but it never hurts anybody to grimace when grimacing is warranted. 

She pulled a set of gloves out and peered out towards the waiting lounge, murmuring absently, “You know, I think I’ve seen some of these guys before at the sex shop.”

And this is where we say Eri sounds like a ‘jaded prostitute’. 

You know, I am really curious --- grac HAS to write Eri on a porn run one day. At a point where she’s like besties with the cashier, now that would be funny. And maybe you can have her run into a future character there or something. xD  (Yui :3 I’m always waiting for Yui. Lol)

“How do you do it, Eri?” Ai asked.

“Well, you just ask them to take their pants off and show you-“

  Major LOL moment. I love Eri. She’s so incredibly insightful. xD Makes you want to hug her~ 


Scene #10:

*Aibon and the move to an apartment in a dodgy neighbourhood*

Now, you have to make sure that we get to see all the others outside their hospital lives as well. It’s kinda cute, somehow. :3

They ended up falling asleep amidst unpacked boxes, enjoying the gentle breeze of spring.

CHEEEEESE FTW. 


Scene #11:

*TanaShige and the acceptable moment of fluffy cuteness*

YES. 

These girls, I love how you overwork them, grac. Because… cue scenes like this. xD
So, not KameShige. But I’m really in no position to complain here, ‘coz this is written so friggin’ sweetly. Friendship really is just as awesome as love (and often too underrated in comparison) and I felt a lot of that here, even if it didn’t manifest in the most obvious of ways. 

Ai gave a very unladylike snort at that and made a remark about which side of Miki’s she’d gotten on to warrant her assignment for the day.

How exactly do you get on Miki’s bad side? By existing? 

Reina clambered up the ladder and into Sayu’s bed. “Scoot over,” she poked the sleeping girl.

If Reina gets any gentler and sweeter than this, she’s going to kill me.   

She pressed her ear against Sayu’s back, concentrating on the comforting sound of another person’s heartbeat.

‘Sounds different, though,’ was Reina’s last thought before falling asleep.

AWWWWWWWWWW. I think someone has found GoMaki’s heartbeat a comfort to fall asleep to xD

Scene #12:

*Miki and the Coxsackie virus worthy of Picasso*

Okay, so you showed us this scene like HOW LONG AGO?! And it was so epically funny back then… amongst all the crack you had going for this chapter though, it didn’t stand out to that extent (I mean, c’mon, next to Rika’s non-existent penis?? xD). But still. This scene totally embodies grac!crack at its best. 

The MikiEri in this scene was gorgeous in a really subtly unusual way. Here, they kind of come together through mutual empathy. The bond people grow thanks to horrible drawing skills --- I know of this quite personally. 

“Don’t worry, Kame. Our talents will never be appreciated until we’re dead, like Picasso.”

One of my favourite On Call quotes, ever. Now that’s saying a lot, considering how much I've quoted you. 

Kaori was the last to arrive, closing the door behind her, “Who’s dying? Fujimoto, nani sore? Shiitake?”

And the punchline here’s gotta be one of my favourites from On Call so far as well. 

This scene plays out like so wonderfully in my head, it’s soooo good. 


Scene #13:

*Rika and the non-inexistent penis*

Maki shrugged, “I dunno. I tried calling, but no answer. I guess she’s busy or something.”

Busy getting lipstick all over her collar ;_____;

Charmy + self-affirmed penis = win. I don’t know, it just is. Like, WHERE THE HELL ELSE WOULD I BE READING ABOUT SUCH COOL THINGS?! *_____*

“We need to hire more tech girls- there’s a backlog the size of my penis.”

Charmy-neesamaaaa…

Don’t you ever change! 

Okay, so there was a bit of IshiYoshi going on here, which I totally would’ve fangirled had you not introduced us to something else. Damn, for a thing that’s non-existent, sure is powerful. 

“What? No.” Drunk Ishikawa is never to be let out in public.

Agreed. Keep her to yourself, Yossie. Fun times. 

Yaguchi had stuck an entire pizza face-first onto the glass, mouthing the words ‘have some’ while pointing at it.

I hope to one day attend a party this cool.

Scene #14:

*TakaGaki and the sweet recap of disgustingness*

There was something indescribably lovely about this scene between the two, just the both of them having a moment to go over their day, all the good and the bad (mainly bad) and having a laugh at it all over chocomilk and vodka (which have not and probably will not ever try. Seriously, grac?). This sorta thing gives On Call a really pleasing down-to-earth kind of feel. 

“I’m home.”

“Okaeri- you look beat.”

Married much? 

“Can’t be as bad as my glamorous solo case- my patient enjoys the art of calligraphy, using his bodily waste.”

Grac’s analogies are impressive. 

“You know, if I don’t ever handle another penis in my life, I’ll be happy. One of the patients actually asked for my number, mid-inspection.”

And wtf. xDD Don’t expect to get a number from a beautiful doctor when she’s dealing with your penis AND ITS WARTS AND ALL. 

Also, hearing Ai say that, it would be funny if one day Ai had to deal with Rika’s non-existent one. 

“I told him we needed to burn the warts off with acid or liquid nitrogen. He passed out.”

Yayyyy! 


Scene #15:

*Ayaya and the foreboding blood-covered pillow*

I know, this is just going to be the start of something sad, but very beautiful (of course, with its moments of crack). 

You’ve already given ropychan and me a good glimpse into the future, and all I can say is… hells yesss, grac. Bring it all on!!!     

Did you know: Residents can have crazy shifts up to 24 hours long. (but not as long as Rika's non-existant magnificent penis)

  Quite possibly my favourite ‘did you know’.


New words Bee learnt this chapter: dalliance (I’m not very familiar with archaic lang.), asystolic (medical jargon sounds so wise), Bukkake (xD)

CHAPTER 9 (Why doesn’t this have a title?)

Nice and sweet, this chapter – thoroughly enjoyable, and not as overwhelmingly epic as the previous chapter (which in a way is good xD). A collection of morning afters. I think grac has a crush on writing morning afters <3 hehe 

Personally, I LOVE morning afters, they provide so much potential for laughs aplenty and this was fantastic! I have to admit… my favourite bit was the introduction of NakaKame (or YukoEri?), whatever you want to call it. I felt really nostalgic reading them here. ;_____;

“Ah. Bukkake. Why the hell? I’m not due in til 10am.”

Why, grac, can you make words like Bukkake sound awesome? Hahahaaa… I’m learning too much naughty from you. (Teddies. )

Poor Yossie.  She’s always finding herself pinned under people the morning after. Such a drunk!chick magnet. 

So okay, the next scene is the absolute bestest (I am painfully aware that that isn’t a word, but am compelled to use incorrect English only because being prim and proper cannot possibly help me in my whole-hearted appreciation of your fic) thing of the whole chapter… we have MikiEri first off, then we have half-naked & passive-aggressive Eri, then we have YukoEri, then we have Kaori without a pun. KILLER SCENE. 

“Pa- pantsu?” Eri stuttered, gripping the waistband of her last article of clothing tightly.

“Your scrub pants, Kame.”

“Can’t I just go downstairs get you a set of blue scrubs?” Eri implored pitifully, her pants already halfway off.

I totally adored the way you had Eri weakly griping, but at the same time already working her pants off. It just made this bit so much funnier.

Miki in pink scrubs!    And your omake – the two drawings and the two equally awesome labels…    so cute! Those had me laughing for a while 

A photocopy of a hastily handwritten letter issued by Chief Nakazawa approving her admission to the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department due to ‘her passionate interest for female reproductive organs’ was taped to her forehead.

The way this place works – on this nice, informal level – I love it. 

“I could totally make an effigy out of this,” Eri mumbled aloud, remembering the latex blow-up doll she had stashed in her room, courtesy of last week’s porn run.

PLEASEEEE! Bee wants to see many misadventures with blow-up doll! 

“Nakazawa-sa… sama!” Eri jumped, clutching Miki’s top against her body.

Yuko liked her already.

Well, Eri did have her at the licking-salsa-dipped-phone thing, didn’t she? 

Shrugging out of her white lab coat, Yuko draped it over Eri and ruffled her hair. “Come on, cute stuff. If you’re gonna burn an effigy of your senior resident, I should get to watch and laugh, at least. God knows there have been enough burning effigies of me around here.”

CUTE STUFF!!!! *Bee dies*. Yuko’s already a total sucker for Eri. Such a boyfriend gesture, to take her coat off and put it around a half-naked Eri. I’d love to see Miki bullying Eri and then Yuko coming to our turtle’s rescue xD And upon seeing how famously the two get along (with all the doting from the chief), Miki can then get jealous. Okay... I am SO Eri-centric, it's gotta stop 

Iida was quiet the entire walk down the hallway, a disturbed look on her face. Punching the lift doors close, she murmured broodingly, “No, I can’t think of a pun for this one.”

Kaori ended up losing sleep over it that night, didn’t she?  Here, we were all expecting another effortless pun from her. And you totally threw us off with this. 

As if that wasn’t enough, a HD recording of her behavior the previous night would always show up at breakfast the next morning like a post-mortem debriefing, courtesy of the Two Top.

Was Rika-sama doing a lot of crotch-grabbing and air humping (distastefully close to the other girls)? 

“Rika-sama made an appearance. I was hanging halfway over Kago-chan’s balcony rail, loudly propositioning streetwalkers and complimenting their breasts.” Rika grimaced, recalling how Yossi was hanging onto her legs, emphatically telling her she was going to ‘fall to her fucking death and dash her goddamn brains all over the pavement/prostitutes’.

This was definitely the crackiest part of the chapter, and though ropychan preached for us to ‘take a moment to picture properly this image’ in our minds, I think this is DRAWING MATERIAL. *looks pointedly at ropychan* :3

I’m just… really amused that drunk!Rika is such a guy. 

“I don’t know how that lipstick got on my collar, honest,” Aya joked weakly.

Weak, Ayaya, weak. ;___;

Of course Rika’s not going to buy it – but now that one other doctor knows, I’m very curious as to what’s going to happen from here. For Ayaya… this is one of the more concrete plotlines we’re getting, so I’m holding onto this every step of the way. I suggest that grac gives Ayaya more screen time. And please begin to develop the AyaSayu more from here on out, as well. Been a while since you last gave us a bit of those two!   

Eri was cheerfully recounting her traumatic anecdote to her doukies, finding it more humorous now with breakfast in her system. That, and having Sayu pat her head excessively to comfort her worked wonders.

Eriiiiiiii!!!!    ‘Cheerfully’ recounting her ‘traumatic’ anecdote. LOL. I think Yuko played a lot into that cheerfulness too. 
And I'll take any mention of KameShige, thank you very much! 

HangoveredAichan, and fussing Gaki-san - yes yes yes! 

“You were screaming ‘won’t you take me to funky town’ over and over again at the top of your voice.”

Ai-chan and Rika-sama drunken combination would be something to behold. 

“Don’t think just because you’re doing one nice thing for Ai-chan that it absolves you of all the crap you put them through.” Niigaki glared at Fujimoto ineffectually, and Miki glared right back.

The tension! But I love that Gaki-san isn’t a pushover, even in the face of a senpai that scary. 

”… the last thing I need is for a hungover intern to puke into my patient’s abdominal cavity.”

Ouch. (And gross). But fair enough.

“Yocchan decided to let you scrub in with me and Kame today and we’ll be cutting open your very first colorectal. Isn’t that exciting?”

Ai turned pale at that and Risa rushed to place the paperbag to her face.
