Miya and Airi's relationship is more of a friendly rivalry. Most consider them the aces of their respective groups and they were already put in two units together yet we don't get to see them act mushy with each other. But we also don't see them try to outdo the other. Maybe that was the purpose of putting them together in those two units, to make them realize their weaknesses, so that they can complement what the other one lacks and so that the single will sell. They are friends, but not in the Miya-Saki/Maimi-Airi level.
It's the same kind of relationship that Airi has with the other members of C-ute. The other girls would be retards if they don't see the obvious that Airi (and sometimes Maimi) gets most of the spotlight but I think it's what motivates them to work harder. I don't think the others are insensitive enough to want Airi carry the burden all by herself. Having Airi with them is an advantage because she attracts fans and at the same time makes them strive to become better. C-ute's success is not because of Airi alone but because of their work as a group. IMHO, I think C-ute is the most solid and stable when it comes to relationships between members. The only thing I can see that destroy that is when Airi suddenly decides to become an elitist bitch and rub her superiority in the other girl's faces. Thank god she doesn't have that kind of attitude.
Not sure about Japanese fans (can anyone confirm

) but I think it's mostly the foreign fans that are making a fuss about Airi getting all the attention. Airi is definitely popular. Her fanbase is probably even greater than the fanbase of Saki, Mai and Chisato combined. Is it her fault that she gets more magazine appearances, more PBs, etc. than the others? From a fan's standpoint, it would be unfair but from a business standpoint, the management is doing it because they know that it will sell. Heck, putting Airi's face on the box or bottle of the least selling product in the market would probably increase its' sales by a few percent.

I mean, in real life, everyone is not friends with everyone. I expect it's the same among the Idols.
Definitely. I remember an interview of one of the Elder Club units from way back where they said that they don't like working with each other but they have to because it's their job.
