Junior Griffey to the White Sox??

The Pale Hole in need of another bat?  Didn't expect this one.

MLB trade deadline goes down in less than five hours...

Junior accepts the move; onto the comish's lair to sign off on the deal.

But where's he playing?  I don't get it.

The Manny move still stuck in first gear, it seems.  Come on Fish: make the move!

BTW...  I never expected the Cubs to kick ass in Miller Park the past few days.

Of course it's not close to being over yet but... damn...

Helluva day!  Also note: LaRoche will start in Pittsburgh.  Good for him; he wasn't getting much playing time in LA.

Man, I hope the Red Sox don't suffer that much of a falloff.  I mean, Jason Bay is NOT Manny Ramirez.

Manny also moves to a pitchers park.  I'm not sure how much more "inferior" NL pitching is...

Blah, blah...  More to come.

Just read that Livan Hernandez (the "innings eater" and eater of everything else judging from the size of his gut) was claimed off waivers by the Rockies.

Wasn't his ERA approaching 6.00?  Hope that veteran experience helps in the fair air of Coors Field.

It says something that "Dr. James Andrews" is just as recognizable in the sports nomenclature as "Brett Farve" or "Manny Ramirez.

Anyway how do Yankee fans feel about Joba now?  Tendinitis?  Is that "just" a strain or is there a tear someplace?

Right now the Yankees are EIGHT AND A HALF games behind the Tampa Rays.

You can name all the big-name stars on the team and then some.  EIGHT-plus games out?!!

Damn...  It's just not the same without the big, bad wolf of baseball chomping about.

Yanks dead?!!

A-Rod was popping up and striking out with plenny runners on against Boston on Tuesday.  The banter at Bronx Banter is, once again, focused on A-Rod and why he's THE problem with the damn Yanks these days.  Why, if he was slugging .675 like he's PAID to do, then the Bombers wouldn't be ten games out.  Sheesh...

Huh?  Pettitte got knocked around?  Giambi's also choking in the clutch and in the field?  Captain Clutch still has zero range to his left?  Don't matter for shit: A-Rod is New York's fave punching bag.  Again.  And again.

Yankee fans: doesn't A-Rod bashing feel stale after awhile?

Holy crappolee! Carl Pavano won his second straight start for the Bombers today, outdueling A.J. Burnett of the Blue Jays, 2-1. Mo got the save and I assume A-Rod must have choked with runners on once more.

Rough road trip for the Jays, who came up from St. Petersburg where the Rays gave the beatdown in probably the worst ballpark in the majors, in front of the smallest crowds (other than Miami).

Speaking of which, looks like they blew another save in Miami. Mets score 4 in the 9th and go up 5-2. Tampa is leading Baltimore 13-1 in the 7th and probably won't get a save opportunity tonight.

I was also following the battle of the Sox: Matsuzaka pitches eight innings of two hit ball, and only walks two! Pitch count was 105 and I thought he'd come out for the CG shutout but he was taken out anyway (Timlin pitched a scoreless ninth). Just as well -- they'll need him fresh down the stretch.

Dang, CC throws a ONE-hitter against the Bucs!  He likey the Senior Circuit (does anyone still call it that?).  Pittsburgh's only "hit" was a dribbler that CC didn't field cleanly and the baserunner reached first safely.  I read that Sabathia wouldn't have gotten the runner at first, even if he didn't flub the play.  Looks like Milwaukee will contest the official scorer's ruling.  When's the last time a no-hitter was determined after the game was over?  Brewers remain in control of the N.L. Wild Card.

Tampa clobbers Baltimore in their dome again, making it crucial that they get home-field advantage for the playoffs.

Red Sox lose the final game of their series against the White Sox.  Jim Thome hit career HR #536, tying him with Mickey Mantle.  Twins leading the A's after 4 innings in Oakland.  Still tight race in the A.L. Central.

Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee's competition for the A.L. Cy Young, threw 7 innings against the Yanks, allowed two runs, and won his 17th game.  His career high is 22.  Yanks are now 12 1/2 games behind Tampa, 7 behind Boston in the Wild Card.

Glad that Pedro won against the Marlins.  Just brutal to see a great pitcher giving up gopher and gopher.  He gave the Mets six innings and the bullpen shut the door in the last three frames.

Dang, the Angels have a single-digit (9) MAGIC NUMBER!  In August!  I wonder how much they'll rest K-Rod?

Tuesday action
« Reply #956 on: September 10, 2008, 05:54:17 PM »
Albert Pujols hit another homer yesterday, helping the Cards beat the Cubs by a run. He's played with a damaged elbow for about four years and still produces like clockwork, ala Henry Aaron. Or Stan Musial, the other great Cardinal. He's clearly the MVP in the National League.

Rays beat the Red Sox in a game that I really wish I watched live instead of via Flash updates on CBS Sportsline. Scott Kazmir shut down the Sox but his bullpen failed him in the 8th. Then River Dancer Papelbon blew HIS save opportunity in the top of the 9th. Sox had the tying run on 3rd when Troy Percival got the final out.

The Washington Nats beat the Phillies, losing ground to the Mets. The spoiler factor may come to rise again for this year's stretch drive. I'll never forget last year's Mets-Marlins finale. I wonder if the Bucs have any spark left to cause a little chaos?

Dodgers now 3.5 up on the stumbling D-Backs.  Jeez, remember when we were ready to concede the N.L. West to the Snakes back in May?

Oh yeah the Mets are also up 3.5 on the Phils with 17 to play.  Last year they were SEVEN games up with 17 to play.  Any Flushing fans out there?  Feeling better?

And to anyone who follows MLB: Albert Pujols is your N.L. MVP.  Anyone who thinks C. Delgado is the leading candidate is delusional.  He's likely the third-best player in the Mets' INFIELD.  Also keep an eye on Lance Berkman.

Of course, Delgado is a more legitimate nominee than Francisco Rodriguez for MVP.  Seriously, there are people who not only claim K-Rod is better than Cliff Lee and Roy Halladay but also Joe Mauer and Josh Hamilton and Ian Kinsler and Grady Sizemore.  Come on, K-Rod has more BB in 60-something IP than Cliff Lee has in almost 200.
