SaeMaYuki, by the way... lol

1st Emergency

[I don’t know what to do]

Watanabe Mayu isn’t the typical honor student or the students that fall between, and by fall ‘in between’, it means the average high school girls you’d see hanging around in the streets. Grades average, social, and enjoys entertainment but still keeps studies in mind. Mayu was none of that. She hates studying; she just doesn’t have the attention span to revise over work that’s being, literally, yelled into her ears already. Punctuality really isn’t her thing either. She spends half her mornings climbing over the closed school gates for being late. The idea of arriving on time hasn’t crossed her mind yet, not once. However, she doesn’t sleep in class. Lack of sleep was never the problem, oversleeping was the problem. Her rebellious tendencies tend to cause trouble for all sorts of people. She’s being in the principal’s office numerous times. Phone calls to her parents, detention, and suspension. But, fortunately, those streaks of rebellious acts come and go. And, once gone, it doesn’t come back until a while. However, above all those not-so-great points, she does secure first place in school rankings every time. She’s shown her talent in art by winning many awards for the school and herself. Generally speaking, people quite envy her, in a bad way.

Kashiwagi Yuki, however, is the opposite of Mayu. Yuki is the student council president, and acts in a very orderly fashion. Her grades are only second from Mayu and, proven to be a very charismatic figure in not only her grade but school as well. Many admire her, and look up to her. She’s like the perfect role model for any achieving student who’s aiming for the top. Juniors love her and adore her, while seniors rely on her and trust her. Teachers enjoy her help and company. Yuki is a student who gives her teachers and parents pride. Mayu does too, but in a different way, a very different way. Her amiable demeanor makes the people around her feel at ease, while many people struggle to form their first words when in front of Mayu. Both have an aura; neither Yuki nor Mayu can go unnoticed once they walk into a room. When both are in the same room, a suffocating atmosphere is created. People will subconsciously feel the need to escape at one stage; both of their demanding auras are hard to keep up with at times. They are the stars that are better to look at from afar, once too close and eye contact is made, they’ll immediately have the upper hand. Yuki’s captivating eyes, which the longer you look the harder it is to crawl out. And, Mayu’s sharp yet soft eyes that pierces you in an awfully pleasant way.

These two aren’t enemies. They were friends, very good friends. The two grew up together and stayed with each other ever since. But, the two were always split into their separate categories: Yuki as the majestic and gentle lady, and Mayu as the bold and enigmatic rebel. Their families are close and naturally caused the two kids to hang around each other more and more. They were inseparable, until high school, as they went their different paths they started to hang out less and talk less. When their families meet up, they’d say they’re busy with something else and won’t be able to make it. Gradually the two started to drift apart, but still interfered once in a while. When Mayu makes trouble, Yuki will be concerned as a friend and as the student council. But, Mayu just shrugs her off coldly. It seems Mayu has become more and more of private person as they grew up. And, Yuki would always wonder why.

“Mayuyu~” Yuki chimed as she peeked her head into Mayu’s classroom. She saw the younger girl swing her bag over her shoulder and tucking her seat in. Yuki stayed by the door and waited for Mayu to speak. Much to her disappointment a response didn't come until they were only centimeters apart.

Mayu just looked up, with the dark orbs of hers. “Mayuyu?” she said with distaste. “Stop calling me that… please”

Yuki frowned, since when did their relationship require formality in speech. “Why? I always call you Mayuyu, ever since we were like six”

“Yeah, but I don’t feel like it’s necessary anymore” Mayu replied flat before pushing her way through the door to head back home. Yuki stepped back as their shoulders knocked. All she could do was watch Mayu’s back slowly fade into the distance. Mayuyu’s changed a lot, is the only thing that ran through her head before she turned away.

This isn’t the first time Yuki’s attempt to start a light conversation failed with Mayu. Actually, it’s happening way too much nowadays and Yuki is becoming more and more frustrated. Even though, the two of them both started to become busy with the separate activities they attended. Mayu’s avoidance was becoming undeniably obvious by the months. They’d sit in the same room for an hour and Mayu would sit on the other side of the table quietly. Honestly, Yuki hasn’t felt so choked up before.

Buzz.

Yuki looked down at her bag and opened it hurriedly. She fetched out her phone and flipped it open. One new message, she scanned the ID. Miyazawa Sae. Opening the message she read the mail’s contents.

‘Hey, can I come over today? I need help on my assignment’

Yuki smiled and typed back a simple ‘OK’.

“That’s interesting…” a silky voice echoed through the classroom.

Shutting her phone out of surprise, Yuki spun around quickly. Mayu? Didn’t she leave already? She thought. Mayu stepped into the classroom and ambled to her desk. She turned her head to Yuki with a slight bounce and a faint smirk. “Don’t worry, I just forgot something. Nothing else”

The whole time Yuki couldn’t say a word. Just the sight of Mayu seemed so surreal suddenly, even though they were talking five seconds ago. Yuki swallowed down the lump in her throat and opened to speak but nothing came out. Fear rushed into her. She didn’t want Mayu to leave. She wanted the girl to stay just a while longer, even if it were in silence. Yuki just wants to embrace the presence of Mayu once more, go back to when they were kids and flash back to the times they spent together in innocence. She wonders why things changed. Why aren’t they the close friends they used to be? Lately, she’s being watching dramas and admiring the childhood relationships being displayed. Why is her reality so different?

“Interesting…” Mayu repeated back. “You were just texting”

Yuki blinked. “What…?”

“You never text. It’s not your thing, you never even texted me before” Mayu just laughed dryly, “Why am I even bringing this up?” she turned around and left. Again.

And, Yuki watched her back fade into the distance. Again.

*

“I don’t get this Yukirin!” Sae whined as she flailed around in her best friend’s room. “Why do we need to learn science? Please tell me. Actually don’t”

Yuki just laughed. “What don’t you get?”

“Everything!” Sae said as she chucked her book into the air.

“Eh!” Yuki just sighed and shook her head. “You’re helpless”

Miyazawa Sae sat beside Yuki, as the smarter girl explained the question. Her hair falling perfectly down beside her is a mesmerizing sight to Sae. No wonder so many people adore her to death. Yuki is basically the epitome of beauty. Sae can’t deny that sometimes she’d completely gush over her at certain times, like when Yuki is standing on stage giving a speech. She just seems so… perfect. Yuki’s flawless, and Sae will never think otherwise. She’d proclaim herself insane if that ever happens.

“Do you understand now?”

And, that calming voice, as cheesy as it sounds, Sae thinks it's the voice of an angel. She’s sure everyone in the school agrees though the only person who doesn’t is probably Yuki herself. Due to her modesty she’ll never admit to such compliments. Her eyes travelled down to Yuki’s lips. Sae gulped and mentally kicked herself for being so out of control. She smiled at Yuki.

“Yeah, I get now” Sae said.

“Good, now get to work!” Yuki said playfully, before returning to her own work.

They worked productively for the next half an hour or so before Sae broke the ice. “Hey” she began softly.

Yuki hummed a reply, as she continued scribbling down notes. “What is it?”

“Do you like anyone?” Sae asked as she subconsciously buried her face deeper into her book as the words came out of her mouth.

The sound of the pencil travelling against the paper ceased. Yuki stayed mum and stared at her notebook. She slowly opened her mouth, and croaked out an answer. “I’m… not sure”

“What do you mean? Wouldn’t you know?” Sae said, somewhat confused.

“Nope, I don’t then. I never thought about it actually” Yuki responded, as the sound of her pencil began once again. “You?”

Sae swung her legs as she lay onto her stomach. She tapped the end of the pen against her chin and thought for a while. Looking up towards the ceiling she carefully took her time. She stopped swinging her legs, rolled onto her back and rocked herself up into a sitting position with her legs crossed in front of her. “Yeah, I do”

Yuki twirled around in her sit within a second of the announcement. “Who is it?” she asked roughly.

“It’s a secret,” Sae whispered as she leaned forward a bit.

“Come on, tell me” Yuki begged, but seeing no hope from her friend’s expression her shoulders drooped down. She peeked her eyes to Sae. “Do I know them?”

Sae just rocked back and forth until stopping to an answer. “Yep, you do. For sure”

Yuki just narrowed her eyes. “You sure?”

“Yeah, I mean even if you don’t. You can get your hands on their whole profile pretty fast. You are the president of the student council after all, added with the fact everyone loves you. The teachers would definitely help out if you’re that desperate,” Sae explained.

“I guess, but do I know them, just you know… naturally”

Sae nodded, “I’m pretty sure you do”

*

Mayu stood in front of her door, her head hung low. She heard screams, shouts, and shrieks added with the clattering of what sounded like pans and glass. She sighed. They’re fighting again. She hopped down the stairs, and took her bag off. Placing her bag down, she sat down on the mini staircase leading to her house’s main entrance. The sky was already dark as she looked at the sky. She reached over and took out her sketchbook, along with a pencil. The sketchbook rested on her laps as she flipped through the already filled pages. She stopped as she saw the piece that has won her first place in one of the national art competitions.

A tiara. That’s all it was. But, it was also so much more.

She looked at the artwork and inhaled deeply as an overflow of emotions rushed through her. She remembered very clearly how she got the inspirations for the tiara. She loved the artwork. It was her masterpiece. She was so proud of it, but now she despises it. The artwork made her insides crumble in regret. Why did she cut off their ties?

The tiara was Yuki, her princess. Yet, now the tiara’s nothing but a display. She can never get too close or she’ll be tempted to steal the tiara. She doesn’t want that, because in the glass is where the tiara will be kept the best. If Mayu takes the tiara it’ll just be dirtied. She didn’t want that. Mayu wanted the tiara to stay perfect and prime condition, and she definitely can’t fulfill such a wish. So, she stays away before her selfishness gets in the way.

She shut her sketchbook and put it beside her on the stairs. She looked ahead at the empty street, the light flickering. When did this all start? Why did it happen? Mayu would always ask herself these questions but no answers ever popped up. She sometimes wished she could just go up and ask.

“Yuki…” her voice faded with the noise of the traffic and wind.

She wished she could just ask. “Why did I fall in love with you?”

2nd Chapter, enjoy~  :)

2nd Emergency

[I wish I could just disappear]

Yuki walked along the corridors and scanned the room numbers, before stopping at her destination. She looked up at the number. 64. Then, back down at her piece of paper. 64. It matched. Straightening her uniform, she raised her hands up and formed a loose fist. She knocked three times and awaited a reply. There was nothing, and Yuki tilted her head. She knocked again this time with a bit more strength. Was there no one there? She tried twisting the doorknob and it opened as expected. Nobody really locks classroom doors when its school hours. It’s just not necessary.

“Mayu?” Yuki said as she saw the familiar figure seating at the table, with a sketchbook placed on the table. “What are you doing here?”

Mayu turned and glanced for a second before returning her attention to her sketch. “Drawing, what are you doing here?”

Yuki couldn’t believe it. Mayu was properly talking to her. It’s being so long since Mayu has given her any form of hope in mending their friendship once again. She’s not sure if this is a one off thing, or if Mayu suddenly felt friendly. Either way, it is shocking and made Yuki’s heart skip a beat due to inner joy. Keeping her exterior calm, Yuki cleared her throat. She slowly walked up to the table and placed the paper she had in her hand next to Mayu’s sketchbook. She looked down at Mayu’s sketch and opened her mouth.

“What are you drawing?” Yuki asked timidly.

“You didn’t answer my question” Mayu said not looking away from her sketch. “How’s Sae?”

“The teacher told me to come, but obviously he doesn’t seem to be here” Yuki said. “And, Sae? Why?”

“She seems close…” Mayu trailed off. “You know”

“Close?” Yuki asked not exactly sure what the girl meant.

“Intimate” Mayu said.

Yuki blinked. “Intimate? You never say that word. You think it’s too ‘much’”

Mayu looked up at the girl standing beside her and faintly smiled. “Well, I am changing in many ways” her smile faded almost immediately as she turned away. What a big mistake I just made, she thought.

A smile. Yuki just witnessed Mayu smile. She felt like screaming and running around the room five hundred times, as if she was on fire or like a fan girl who just met their favorite celebrity (by favorite, she means the one you’d die to marry). Today seems to be her day. If someone came up to her and asked, ‘How’s your day?’ she’d reply with a very pumped up voice and say, ‘Bloody fantastic!’ it’s not often a person will find Mayu showing any kind of positive emotion, such as smiling. And, being a self-proclaimed long lost friend of Mayu’s, Yuki just couldn’t help but crumble a bit inside at the sight of such a soft expression.

“So, what are you drawing?” Yuki asked again in an unusually bubbly tone. She leaned down to take a peek only to be met with a shut sketchbook. Yuki frowned and looked at Mayu at an awfully close proximity. It’s just as people described, Mayu’s eyes were the most beautiful and deep orbs she’s ever seen in her life. She was sucked in by the soft piercing gaze in an instant, and couldn’t pull herself out. Even though, Mayu’s eyes were like the eighth wonder of the world. Yuki couldn’t help but wonder why it became so complex. The emotions emitted are twisted in a very disturbing manner, and caused Yuki’s mother instincts to click.

“Hey, has something being bothering you lately?” Yuki inquired gently. “You could tell me, I’m still your best friend, and the one you can rely on”

Mayu gulped and slid her chair to the side, to back up a bit from Yuki. She grabbed her sketchbook and pencil case, before standing up in an abrupt manner. “I should get to class,” she said short. She walked passed Yuki in one swift motion but wasn’t fast enough.

Yuki grabbed the girl’s wrist and swung her around. “You’re kidding me, you never attend class nowadays. Why would you suddenly decide to go when I asked you something serious? There’s something going on and I know it” her eyes were filled with intensity. She was serious, and she was furious. “Why don’t you open up to me anymore? I feel like we’re strangers now”

“We are” Mayu yanked her arm and forced herself out of the tight grip. She looked Yuki in the eyes and stated firmly what she needed to say. “It’s better that way. I don’t know you, and you don’t know me. We’re over… Officially”

*

“Mr. Watanabe, you’re daughter has finished school” a young man informed his boss as he bowed with courtesy. “Should I go get her now? She’s waiting outside”

“Yes, please do” the middle aged man said.

The man walked out and opened the door to let a young girl in, Mayu obviously. Mayu walked up to her father and bowed. She hated it. All these formalities, it’s not the old days where people care so much. Treating her father like royalty disgusted her. “What did you need me for?”

“A discussion” Mr. Watanabe said. “I recently found out you cut ties with Kashiwagi. Why is that?”

“We weren’t getting along anymore,” Mayu said casually.

“Have you forgotten what I told you before?” Mr. Watanabe said sternly. “Kashiwagi is the last ingredient. She’s important, if the police get to her first everything will be for nothing. You have to maintain the relationship. That her father will be no biggie”

“I don’t want to be involved in your crimes. I’m sorry” Mayu said plain.

Mr. Watanabe scoffed. “Well, you were born into the head family of the Yamaguchi-gumi of the Yakuza. We’ve being running this for generations. You were born to be in this world, so live with it” he looked at his daughter and sighed. “Now, go and get your precious Yuki back”

Mayu turned to leave, but was interrupted.

“And, by the way. You’re getting your tattoo soon, since your old enough and should finally get into the dirty work to gain some experience. Your mother was highly against it, hence the argument yesterday. But, it’s all resolved. So, be prepared it will be the tradition needle, by hand not machine”

Mayu just inhaled deeply and turned her back to leave the room. She hated the room her father does all his meetings in. It was all traditional and filled with colorful designs of dragons, carp, and geishas; added with all those singular cherry blossom petals just scattered everywhere. It really is an eyesore to look at, but as an artistic person, Mayu could still appreciate its beautiful. She just wished it wasn’t in a room where people cut off their fingers to prove their loyalty to her father. Honestly, she never really understood the tradition of finger cutting and she never bothered dwelling into it. It’s not worth her time and a waste of space in her brain to know anyways.

But, right now, something she is dwelling on is the tattoo. “I hope he chose a good design,” she muttered under her breath as she imagined all the possible designs she would’ve chosen. Then, she’ll compare it to her father’s choice and rate his taste. It’s her way of making things just a tad bit more interesting. “I hope I fall asleep half-way too”

*

The door creaked open as an average height man entered in a suit. Sae jerked her head and smiled. “Ah, dad! You’re back”

Mr. Miyazawa smiled back and ambled to his daughter. “I’ve got a new lead” he’s expression turned serious. “You may be shocked, but stay calm okay?”

Sae looked at her father and nodded. Her father was a detective, a very famous one at that. He mainly dealt with organized syndicates and arresting their ‘heads’, the boss. Many cases have being broken with his input but it needs a lot of effort and causes a lot of pressure and stress. Sae has always looked up to her father, hoping one day to be just like him. She was on the side of justice and damned anyone who did the opposite.

“Well…” he started, “Kashiwagi is the main target. Yamaguchi-gumi is using her as a stepping-stone to get to her father. We’re suspecting an assassination”

Sae nodded, “Don’t worry I’ll make sure Yuki is safe”

“Not only that, but we found out that Watanabe Shinobu” he paused and hesitated to finish, but seeing Sae’s serious eyes he decided to tell. “And, a notable connection is his daughter… Watanabe Mayu”

Sae remained mum at the announcement. Mayu is someone Yuki cherished very much. How can that be? Could Mayu have being doing deception the whole time? That’s too cruel. Yuki loved Mayu so much, and to be treated this way made Sae boil with anger. She always thought Mayu loved Yuki just as much but just had personal issues preventing their friendship to continue. She thought they were in the same boat. That they both loved Yuki to an extent that’s not in the friend zone anymore. It discouraged her because she always felt inferior to Mayu. Yuki looks at the girl in a complete different way and its obvious.

“Is she involved? Do you know?” Sae asked, wanting to make sure before accusing Mayu of anything.

“That’s what we’re all worried about. There’s an awfully high chance that she is though,” Mr. Miyazawa said. “But, nothing is confirmed yet. One thing I found interesting is that Mayu hangs out at night a lot even though it's not permitted for her age. She’s emerged in the nightlife” he tilted his head a bit. “She goes to school everyday and all those things, yeah? I just want to make sure because she has all the power to tamper with the school records”

“Yeah, she’s just late all the time” Sae said.

“Well, I know for sure if she is involved, it's a big mistake on Watanabe’s side. Mayu’s still young and inexperienced she’d make mistakes. And, one mistake is the end in his world”

Sae just remained silent, thinking, thinking deeply about the situation. She had to do something, and that’s the moment she swore to protect Yuki with her life.

*

“Will she do?”

“Of course, other’s are taught to be survivors in our business. Mayu is a born survivor; everything about her is top-notch for this world. All I need to do is give her some experience, teach her the principles. She’s cunning and the police don’t know just how dangerous she is if we breed her right” Mr. Watanabe smirked. “The police will underestimate her, and that’s all they need to do to fall into hell… forever”

A/N: YAY! Update! Here's chapter three.

Enjoy~  :D

3rd Emergency

[Carp of the Sanzu River]

Yuki shifted her gaze timidly from side to side as she questioned Sae’s sudden protective attitude towards her. Sae was never one to restrict a friend or become obsessive, but if she ever does then something must be wrong. So, why was Sae suddenly acting like a bodyguard? Yuki went along however, thinking it’s just a phase for the day and it’ll be over in no time. Maybe the stress of the exams was getting to her.

They walked down the empty corridors side by side in silence. Yuki decided to keep it that way, it was comfortable and some peace would definitely be helpful at the moment. Ever since Mayu officially cut her off, she’s being feeling so depressed that she’s being listening to dark instrumentals on repeat last night under her desk, curled up in ball and rocking back and forth embracing the negative atmosphere she set in her room. It may sound bad, but suicide never crossed her mind… yet.

“Yuki” a demanding voice echoed.

Yuki looked up to find Mayu. God has laid a hand, she thought. Her eyes would’ve being blinding as it was filled with the light of hope. She paused in her tracks and looked at Mayu. Deep down, she knew nothing good will happen though. There’s no way they’ll go back to how they used to be, especially through the span of a night. It’s not possible, she knows Mayu. When Mayu says something’s over. It’s over, at least for a while.

“I need to tell you something”

Yuki wanted to reply and say ‘What is it?’ in her typical gentle voice. But, Sae stepped forward defensively and blocked Yuki’s sight. The only thing Yuki could see was her best friend’s back. Sae stepped forward. “I won’t allow you to do that”

Mayu clenched her jaws, “Move aside. I need to tell her something in private”

“No, do it right here. In front of me” Sae said firmly.

The atmosphere was becoming violent and tense. Yuki stepped to the side and looked at the two, their eyes were filled with determination. She’s never seen Mayu so in need to talk to her before. And, nor has she seen Sae so serious about defending her. Something is definitely ‘off’ today. ‘What’s wrong with them?’ is all she could ask herself.

“You’re wasting my time. Move” Mayu walked forward to directly force herself to Yuki and take her away for a bit. But, she felt an impact on the side of her chest around the shoulder. She sighed, and grabbed Sae’s wrist to remove the hand. Sae was stronger than she expected.

Sae looked at Mayu and spotted a spot of color under her collarbone. “So, you’ve already being pierced. I heard it takes a hundred hours because it’s by hand. Did it hurt?” she knew Mayu would know what she was talking about. “That’s why you were absent for the past few days”

Mayu shoved Sae’s hand down. “Well, don’t you have sharp eyes?”

“Are you going to tell Yuki? She deserves to know” Sae said.

Mayu remained quiet. She can’t tell Yuki, that’d be self-sabotage. Not good at all. But, Sae already gave hints. Yuki would be curious. She looked at Yuki and turned away. “No, I’ll leave instead”

“Good idea” Sae said triumphantly.

Yuki just looked sadly as Mayu started to walk away. Again. Mayu keeps on walking away from her, and it’s frustrating. “Why did you do that?” she asked.

Sae twisted around. “What?”

“Why didn’t you let her talk to me?” Yuki repeated, expect phrased differently.

“She’s not healthy for you, it’s best if you keep the distance” Sae explained as well as she can without giving anything away.

Yuki couldn’t keep it in any longer. She hated how Mayu threw her aside, and how they’re in two different worlds now. She hated how she can't do anything because Mayu wouldn’t tell her anything. And, she hates how she couldn’t even tell Mayu what she felt. “I wanted to though…” Yuki whispered.

“Wanted to? What?” Sae asked quietly to match Yuki’s volume.

“I wanted to talk to her,” Yuki said. “I wanted to tell her how much I miss her and how much I wanted her to come back…”

Sae just watched the girl spill her emotions, as a rush of guilt ran through her. “Yuki…”

“I wanted to tell her that I love her”

*

“I know what you do”

Mayu looked up and found Sae standing before her desk. School was over and everyone left, it’s just the two of them. Mayu ignored the comment and stood up with her shoulder bag in her hands. Tucking her chair in, she straightened her uniform before preparing to leave the room.

“You can’t attend PE lessons anymore, can you?”

Mayu creased her eyebrows and looked at Sae. She couldn’t handle it anymore. Why does Sae ask such questions? If she knew that her tattoo was already done and that PE lessons require short sleeves, then wouldn’t it be obvious. Mayu tilted her head and sucked in some air and released it as a sigh, the type that people normally release after a nice cold drink on a summer’s day.

“You say weird things” Mayu stated flat.

“Really? As in what I’m saying is wrong?” Sae asked with a smirk.

Mayu scoffed as she saw the smirk. A smile slowly crept onto her face as she raised her eyebrows this time. “No, you’re right. I did get my tattoo done. So?”

“Stay away from Yuki”

“I am” Mayu said. “I have being for the past year or so”

Sae gave the shorter girl a sharp gaze. “What were you going to tell her today?”

“Why do you need to know?” Mayu shrugged her shoulders. “I don’t think it is important to you” she looked at Sae and scanned her from top to bottom. Sae must be the policeman’s daughter her father was telling her about. “I heard your father’s a detective”

“He is and he’ll catch your father” Sae said in a menacing tone. “What you do is wrong”

“A justice type person, are we?” Mayu looked Sae in the eye. “I would like to tell you one thing. You’ll never be a hero; no one will ever be a hero. They don’t exist”

*

Yuki ambled along the street and looked up towards the sky. It’s already dark. She took out her phone and stared at the wallpaper. It was a photo of her and Mayu together. She still remembers that day. They only lived a block away and Mayu used to just chime into Yuki’s house. Back when Mayu was the initiative one with all the energy, like a little boy. But, not anymore and Yuki still hasn’t adjusted.

“It’s dangerous at night”

Yuki spun around at the familiar voice. “Mayuyu?”

“I said, stop calling me that” Mayu said in frustration as she walked up to the girl. “Why are you out so late?”

“I had to organize things for the student council and it ran late,” Yuki explained softly. She still wasn’t sure what to think and what Mayu is thinking. Maybe Mayu came to find her to continue with what happened in school. “What was it you needed to tell me?”

Mayu just shook her head. “Nothing, don’t worry about it” she looked down to the ground and continued. “But, I have something I want to ask”

Yuki blinked and nodded. “Yeah, what is it?”

“Let’s just say that there’s someone you care deeply about. And, then something happens and you need to do something bad to their family, something very bad. What would you do?” Mayu asked cautiously.

“I wouldn’t do it” Yuki replied quickly.

“Same” Mayu agreed and smiled at Yuki. “You should hurry home in case something bad happens”

Yuki smiled back and nodded.

“I would die for you, but you don’t even know” Mayu whispered as Yuki slowly faded into the darkness of the night.

A/N: Sorry, for the late update. I had a bunch of assignments and exams. But, anyways I'm back and should be updating every four-five days now, like usual. So, yeah... And, I'm glad that you guys are all enjoying it so far  :D

Here's chapter four then~ Enjoy!  :)

4th Emergency

[I’m falling… slowly]

Mayu quietly treaded in the car park. Alone. Yes, she wonders why too. But, she concluded with the fact that her father may be ‘testing’ her. Convenient. She sighed as she scanned around the empty place. It was early for anyone to be in such a distant forgotten place of the city. Then, footsteps echoed. She perked her ears and stood still. A light flashed in a certain pattern in the distance. She blinked. Morse code? Seriously. Why, she wanted to ask. Just talk. Paranoid people really frustrate her. Just go face to face and if things go wrong… well. Shoot then. Luckily she learnt it before hand. Now, that she thinks about it. That’s why some random henchman of her father’s taught her how to use lights.

She flashed her mobile, because she forgot to bring a flashlight. Actually, she didn’t even consider needing one. “Yes, its me Watanabe’s daughter” she flashed.

“Daughter?” their light flashed. “Oh, the Cyborg has finally come out”

Mayu tilted her head to the side. Cyborg? When did she get that nickname, and how? Strange people these days. Where are they getting their information? “Do you have the money?” Mayu flashed quickly without dwelling on such a trivial thing any longer.

“How do I know it is really you?” the light flashed.

“Do you want me to do the robot dance, as evidence?” Mayu flashed almost immediately. She can, really. She has taken dance lessons, and hasn’t forgotten a single skill. Not yet. She never thought it would be needed in her father’s line of work though.

She heard the man walking over.

“I didn’t know Watanabe’s daughter was so sarcastic”

“Well, you learn new things everyday. Now, you have it?” Mayu said.

The man was somewhat shocked. A teenager who has just entered their world without prior knowledge, and a girl, he couldn’t help but wonder. How can she show no trace of fear or anxiety? She looked completely; chill, like she didn’t care about anything. Almost as if she had no emotions within her, and it scared him a bit. He remembered when he started out, he didn't even know where to start. He was afraid he’ll die, if he did something wrong.

“Aren’t you scared?” he spoke up.

“Of what?” Mayu said flat.

“You know, the whole Yakuza thing. It’s quite dangerous. Death and all that”

“Hmmm…” she thought for a second. “Well, we all die anyways. What’s the difference between dying earlier and dying later? I think to survive in our society we should look at everyone, including ourselves, as trash. That way we’d have no sympathy what so ever”

His eyes widened for a second. “Did it hurt getting the tattoo?” many people said it did. It did for him and for many other people, men as well. It should. That’s the whole point of the tradition. It’ supposed to hurt to show the sacrifice the members are making.

Mayu shrugged casually. “It was bearable. I fell asleep”

She was different, is all that ran through the man’s mind. She was too different. Compared to her father, she was more fearsome than he had expected. Just one more question, he thought to himself. One more.

“You may be a bit young. But, how about love?” he asked.

Mayu tensed at his words. “I… won’t fall in love”

“How do you know?” he said.

“I’d probably be dead before I can settle down about such things” she grabbed the bag from him and swung it onto her shoulder. “Well, I better get going”

“Hey, you know the Kashiwagi family? I heard your father’s after them” he said.

“Yeah…”

“Do you know why?”

Mayu furrowed her eyebrows. “No, why?”

“Nothing, I just wanted to know if you knew. That’s all. Well, bye”

*

Sae slowly walked up from behind Yuki. “Hey, I’m sorry about what happened in the corridor”

Yuki just shook her head. “It’s okay,” she said with a smile. She looked at Sae and contemplated telling her what happened that particular night. Should she tell her that she and Mayu still ended up talking a bit? Normally, Yuki would be fine about telling Sae things. But, when it came to Mayu she felt somewhat hesitant. It wasn't because of Sae’s sudden rivalry towards Mayu, well, maybe it does count. But, also the feeling Yuki gets. She sometimes feels like everything Mayu says should be reserved to her only. Nobody else.

“I didn’t mean to --” Sae was cut off.

“It’s okay. Don’t dwell on it. I’m fine” Yuki said calmly. “You were just protective that day”

Sae frowned slightly. That day? Not only that day. Sae wanted to protect Yuki from Mayu until she sees that girl’s father either dead or in jail, and her being sent away to some distant place for some ‘self-reflection’. She knew this kind of mentality was bad, but the thought that Mayu may be the cause of injury or any kind of harm to Yuki, just boggles her. It makes her feel sad and useless. She’d never forgive herself.

*

“Do you have the money?” Mr. Watanabe said sternly.

“Yeah, yeah… Chill, you’re way too serious” Mayu said as she chucked the bag at her father’s feet. “I checked everything and its all real. No worries” she said before her father could even ask.

“Good. You’ll be absent for a week at school by the way” he informed.

Mayu just looked at him with a raised eyebrow. “Why?”

“You’ll be doing business with me. I’ve already handled all the details for the school. So, don’t worry” he said. “But, Yuki may be worried. And, you have lure her in at every opportunity possible” he was serious. He needed Mayu to get Yuki in her grasp, to have total control over her. That’s the only way to get closer to Yuki’s father, and only Mayu can do it. After the two family bonds broke, only Mayu still had the Kashiwagi family’s trust.

“It won’t be that easy. I got a detective’s daughter on my tail” she said.

He remained silent, as if out of confusion. “Why not just kill her, if that’s what it means to get to Kashiwagi”

“Well, I don’t want to just kill someone in the middle of nowhere” Mayu stated.

“Nowhere?”

“I mean, right now is the most quiet time, a killing would just be so obvious,” Mayu explained. “Added, with her father. His going to go on a massacre if he finds out his daughter was killed”

“You need to find a way though, whatever your method is, it doesn’t matter”

“Okay” Mayu nodded once and sighed. Her father expects her to kill. It’s obvious. He may be saying that the method doesn’t matter, but the just wants to see her kill. And, Mayu doesn’t want to kill. Well, it’s never crossed her mind yet at least. And, even if she were to kill someone, it wouldn’t be Sae. She did nothing wrong, just a bit annoying.

“I don’t have a gun,” she blurted out.

“So?”

“I only kill with guns, it’s the most… civilized” she made up on the spot. Civilized? She wanted to slap herself; killing in itself is one of the most uncivilized things she knows of already. What’s the difference if you use a gun or not? It’s still killing.

“Don’t worry, I can get you one right now,” he raised his hand to click but was interrupted.

“No!” Mayu half-shouted. “Never mind, I’ll get one myself. It’s more fun that way,” she laughed nervously as she slowly backed away to the door. “Well, I should get to sleep now. It’s 3 in the morning” she yawned and pushed her way out of the room.

“I wish we used BB guns instead, so much more innocent”
