Candlelit Smile

Chapter | Three | Garden of candles

Haruna’s eyes fluttered open as she felt Minami’s arms rewrap themselves around her body. With her back pressed up against the comforting chest of her girlfriend, she slid her hands down and rubbed a thumb over the smooth surface of the girl’s skin. ‘She must still be asleep.’ Haruna thought.

After about five minutes Haruna decided to get out of bed and start preparing for her busy day. She slipped out of the warm curl of embrace, trying her best not to wake the other and gave a stretch as she walked into the bathroom.

Glancing into the mirror Haruna realized her eyes had become a little pink from what she had guessed to be from the silent tears she had shed during the previous night before. Taking a deep breath, she stripped off the last bit of her clothes and proceeded to run cool water over her body.

After finishing up, Haruna dressed herself most fashionably and walked into their small dining room to be met with a delicious surprise. Set up most beautifully on the table was a lovely breakfast made specially only for her. She picked up the note in the middle and began reading.

‘Enjoy this nutritious meal. I’ve blessed it with good luck for your fitting today. After you’re finished with your schedule, meet me at the playground where we first became friends. I’ll be waiting. – Takamina’ as her eyes scanned over the letter Haruna smiled thankfully as she turned to look in Minami’s direction, before sitting back down to enjoy her meal.

Before leaving Haruna walked back over to her girlfriend still in bed. The light shined onto Minami’s form as she lay comfortably tucked inside the blanket.

“I know you’re awake.” Haruna said to the girl.

As she leaned down to kiss the Minami she whispered, “Thank you for the lovely breakfast. I’ll see you later.”

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Atsuko sat opposite of her agent. She took off her glasses and passed over a packet of sheets towards the older man.

“What’s wrong, do the scripts not fit to your liking Maeda-san?” He asked.

“It’s not that…” Atsuko answered quietly.

“It’s about the director isn’t it?” The agent speculated.

Atsuko nodded.

“Yes, we are aware that he is known to be quite-” The guy paused looking for the right words, before continuing. “…Unexpected, but I assure you that based on his achievements you’ll be an instant success by the end of it all.” He tried reasoning to convince her.

Not wanting to pass up such the opportunity, Atsuko dismissed her hesitation and accepted it. “Alright, I’ll take the role.” She replied.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Minami and her friend walked into the beautifully gated playground and set the bags they carried with them down. With both hands on her hips, Minami looked up into the blue and smiled at the sky that was beginning to darken after a day’s long anticipation.

“Thanks so much for the help Mii-chan.” Minami said.

“You’re welcome, but of course you would’ve been helpless without me anyways hehe.” Mii-chan smiled.

“I’m not that helpless…” Minami scratched her cheek with a finger by the comment.

“That reminds me, have you found your phone yet?”

“I went back, but I couldn’t find it…It’s my bad luck.”

“Have you tried calling your own number just in case someone might have picked it up?”

“Ahh, that’s a good idea!”

“See, what did I say? You’re absolutely helpless without me heh.” Mii-chan said victoriously as she handed her own cell phone to Minami.

Minami took the device and dialed the number as Mii-chan dangles an arm on her friend to listen. The dial tone signals for a while and no one picks up so she tries again.

“Hello?” A sweet voice picks up from the other line.

“H-hey, you have my phone!” Minami stutters from the other line not really knowing what to say.

“…Takahashi-san?”

“Yes, this is her. Thanks for finding my phone, is there any way I can get it back soon?”

“Umm…What is your location?”

“I am…” Minami looks around. “Actually, I’ll be staying at a playground near Hibiya Gakuen until quite late tonight so…I’ll probably just call you back tomorrow to come pick it up whenever you’re not busy.” She suggests.

 “Okay.” The stranger replied.

“Okay…yeah.” Minami answered slightly uncomfortable.

“Bye.”

“Thanks again.”

‘Click.’ The call ended.

“Well…That was awkward.” Minami sighed.

“Did you know who that person was?” Mii-chan asked releasing the shorter girl from her hold.

“I don’t think so, but she sounds familiar though.” Minami replied as she casually took out a variety of candles from the bag.

As Mii-chan came to help, Minami patted the other girl’s shoulder and pointed at the invisible watch on her wrist.  Her friend remembered immediately and almost ran out of the place yelling “Ah, I’m late for work!” But as Mii-chan reached the gate, she stopped for a moment and asked “Will you be okay?” Minami nodded and smiled, motioning her hand playfully as if to shoo away a little bird. Mii-chan then smiled saying, “Good luck then.” and left.

Minami released a deep sigh and began to set up for her big event. She’d been working hard up until this point. The tiny area was surrounded by a short fence climbed with vines and white flowers that illuminated a glow even in the dark. The playground itself was a secret garden, exotic and seemingly out of place from the busy city. After asking for permission to use the place from its owner, Minami had offered to take care of the lot for one month’s time in advance. Every day after Haruna had left for another one of her fittings, she’d come there to clean and water the plants.

Although the place was meant to be for young children, somehow the environment had always found a way to maintain its peace and quiet. She’s known about the park since she was a teen and it’s become even more beautiful now than then.

----------------------[FLASHBACK]----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“Let go of me!” Haruna yelled out as she shook off a boy’s grip from her arm.

“Come on just go to the karaoke with me.” A tall boy in his school uniform persisted.

“Stop, I don’t even know you!” Haruna protested angrily.

“But—” The assaulter was then assaulted when an unexpected kick hit the back of his fragile knee. At the loss of his balance the boy was sent tumbling over the ground of the arcade and everyone turned to look at the scene.

Startled, Haruna put a hand over her mouth and gazed up to meet the eyes of Takahashi Minami who just smiled confidently at her. The shorter girl then hurriedly made her way on over and yelled out the word, “Run!”

With her eyes widening up in surprise Haruna just stood there until Minami rushed back in embarrassingly to hook her arm in Haruna’s. As the two girls made their escape the fallen boy screamed out in a rage and picked himself up, before moving to chase after them.

“Ahh, he’s coming after us!” Haruna screamed as she looked over her shoulder.

“Don’t worry about it, this is fun!” Minami assured the girl.

“What?!” Haruna couldn’t believe what she was hearing.

Minami pulled them through the gates of a playground and they both slid into a colorful tunnel. The two girls remained quiet and just stared at each other until Minami gave a bright smile. Haruna blinked in response and the other girl whispered, “I’m Takahashi Minami, but you can call me Takamina.”

“…Kojima Haruna.” A shy smile finally graced Haruna’s lips.

“Awesome.”

The two girls just smiled at each other silently, until both of their happy expressions slowly faltered. “I don’t think we’re alone in here.” Haruna said.

At that they both turned their heads simultaneously to see a little kid near the other opening and occupying the same tunnel, but that wasn’t the reason why they made a mad dash to get out.

“Hahahahaha!” The two girls laughed out loud as they held onto each other to support themselves from falling over upon exiting out of the cramped compartment.

“Hey lady!” Minami called out towards a middle aged woman sitting on the bench.

“Yes?” The woman looked up unexpected from the call.

“Your kid is hiding in this tunnel over here, I think he tooted!” She finished as she turned to look at Haruna.

“Oh my!” The woman said rushing on over to find her child.

“That was sooooo funny!” Haruna said trying to contain herself.

“I think we lost that guy.” Minami says as she scans over the area.

“Thanks, you were right. I had fun hehe.” Haruna beamed.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

‘It’s getting dark and the show is over, I should probably get going.’ Haruna thought as she sat in a seat backstage with her fellow co-workers.

As Haruna stands up to leave, a friend stops her. “Are you leaving already?” A girl named Yuki asked.

“Yeah, I have plans.” Haruna answered.

“Oh right, it’s your birthday isn’t it?”

Haruna nodded and right after that another interruption halts her actions yet again. At the sound of her ringtone, she looks at the flashing screen to find the caller I.D. of Shinoda Mariko.

“What do you want?” Haruna asked almost coldly into the device.

“…I need to talk to you.” From the sound of Mariko’s voice, Haruna could tell the woman must have been drinking.

“Where are you?” Haruna asked suddenly worried.

“Home.” Mariko answered.

“Okay, I’ll be there soon.” Haruna answered and then followed the call with a ‘click’ without even saying bye.

The third interruption came unexpectedly as she accidently bumps into the shoulder of a girl, but in the hurry that she was in she didn’t get the chance to apologize and the person only looked at her fleeting form with a scoff.

It didn’t take long until Haruna reached Mariko’s home through the use of a taxi cab. She paid the driver and made her way to the front door of the woman’s house. The location was nice and luxurious unlike the home she shared with Minami.

Haruna rang the doorbell, but because no one had answered she turned the handle to find the door unlocked and walked in. Moving her way through the pure white theme of Mariko’s lovely suite she found the girl with a glass of cold alcohol in hand at the dining table.

“Haruna…I wanted to talk to you.” Mariko said as she lifted her head from the counter top.

“I don’t have anything to say to you…” Haruna answered.

“Did you meet up with Takamina yet?” Mariko asked weakly.

“No, but I’m supposed to by now…So, what do you have to say? I have to go soon.” Haruna stood by idly watching the other.

“I need you by my side, yesterday—” Mariko was cutoff.

“It was a mistake!” Haruna cried.

“It wasn’t a mistake... I love you, and I know you still do too. Yesterday proved it.” Mariko stood up from her seat.

“Don’t come near me!” Haruna yelled out, her eyes beginning to glisten.

“…You love me too.” Mariko repeated feeling hurt.

“You’re making it hard to let go.” Feeling the overwhelming feeling consume her, Haruna broke into a sob instantly crushing her facade.

“You never had to let go in the first place.” Mariko replied as she walked over and pulled Haruna into a hug.

“It’s more complicated than that.” Haruna retorted as she tightened her hold on Mariko.

“I love you, and that’s all that’s needed to be understood.” Mariko wiped at Haruna’s tears.

Haruna stared into Mariko’s eyes. “I love you too…but,” She finally admitted.

“But what?”

“I’m scared…I don’t want to hurt Minami’s feelings. This isn’t right.” Haruna explained as she sniffed.

“I feel that way too… Minami is a great person, she’s my best friend! I’m hurt knowing what I’m doing will bring her pain, but I just can’t contain it anymore.” Mariko tightened her hold on Haruna, but let her tears fall feeling disgusted with herself.

“Don’t blame yourself. I’m at fault too…” Haruna pulled back to look at Mariko.

“I won’t let you go this time… I’ve already lost you once.” Mariko Leaned in to kiss Haruna, and the girl accepted it.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It had been a long time already since Minami had lit up the last candle she had put up around the playground. After pacing back and forth with nothing to do she sat herself down at the end of a slide and lied back. “What’s taking her so long?” Minami sighed.

Minami played with the small box inside her pocket until a negative thought hit her, ‘What if something bad happened to her?!’ Minami shot up from her spot, then thought of another more positive possibility to calm her down.

“No, no, no, just keep it cool. She’ll be here soon.” Minami took a deep breath and climbed up the steps of the kid sized playhouse. Once she reached the top she bent down to check on the fruity Birthday cake. ‘Thank Kami-sama that the weather is cool enough to chill Haruna’s precious cake.’ Minami thought.

Bored, she jumped down and looking around at the various flowers an idea popped up in her head. Minami walked towards a patch of flowers and knelt down. ‘The owner won’t mind right?’ She thought. With a fake cough she plucked out a few and looked around skeptically. “…Of course, he won’t. The children do it all the time either way.” At the excuse, she went on ahead and picked out some more until her hand was full with all sorts.

Making her way to sit on an empty swing and avoiding all the candles lain out on the cement Minami went to work with what she had just picked out and braided each root together to create a makeshift floral head wreath.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Atsuko had just finished up on another busy schedule after signing contract with the producers of the new movie she had just decided to star in and switched on her phone to look at the time.  ‘8:41pm’ Along with the timer two unread messages also popped up.

‘If you’re done with your schedule early, let’s go out for dinner.’ Atsuko read over the first one and then clicked on the second one.

‘Never mind, since you aren’t replying I presume you’re still busy…Next time.’

Atsuko pressed on the screen and replied, ‘Sorry Tomochin, I barely got your messages.’

After about a minute she received a reply, ‘Are you still at Toei Studios?’

‘Yes, still hungry?’ Atsuko replied.

‘I’m in the area I’ll come pick you up right now.’ After Atsuko read the final message she excused herself from her manager and headed down towards the front of the building.

It took approximately ten minutes for her longtime friend to arrive. With the sunroof of her vehicle open, Tomomi stood up from her seat, out through the opening as she cupped her hands together and yelled at her friend.

“Get in the car. I’m not opening the door for you!” Tomomi joked.

“Haiii, I’m coming right away!” Atsuko replied with a bright smile, glad to see her friend.

They drove around to the nearest restaurant by their favorite boutique and sat at the usual table near the back. After they ordered their late night dinner, Atsuko decided to strike up a conversation.

“How was your fitting at Cowaii today?” Atsuko asked the model.

“Their spring fashion line really suits my taste, so everything went fairly well.” Tomomi replied without much thought.

“Good to know for once you’re finally satisfied with a day’s events without complaining.” Atsuko chuckled.

“Well…Now that you’ve mentioned it. There was this really rude model that bumped into me today after the show.” Tomochin said as she stared at her nails.

“I knew it… Did you know her?” Atsuko asked curiously as she shifted in her seat.

The waiter brought out their dishes and they waited until she was done to resume their conversation. Atsuko had already begun picking at her food, when Tomomi decided to answer the girl. She had also picked up her utensils ready to eat.

“Some chick named Kojima Haruna…I’ve seen her around, just never talked to her before and after today I don’t think I ever want to anyways.” Tomomi shrugged.

The two friends enjoyed their meal and chatted just to catch up with each other on the subject of their busy lives for another good two hours, before a lingering thought probed at Atsuko to ask her friend. “Do you by any chance might know where Hibiya Gakuen is at?”

“You mean the Junior high school? I attended there for about a year, before switching out for art school. It’s only about five minutes away from here.”  Tomomi sipped on her drink.

“Oh, it’s that close by?”

“Yeah…Why’d you ask?

“I wanted to return something to a person who said, she might be around there tonight.” Atsuko replied. Truth was although Minami had clearly stated that she would call the girl back the next day, she couldn’t quite understand the need she felt to see the photographer who had carried and cared for her since the day it happened.

“Up until this late? Well…I guess I could take you in a bit.” Tomomi replied.

Finishing up with their talk the girls decided to head out in search for the school, until Atsuko had cleared it to her friend that instead it was a playground they were supposedly looking for. “We’ve been driving around for a while now…”Tomochin complained.

“I’m really sorry, we can stop now.” Atsuko sulked.

“I’ll go further up ahead.” Tomochin replied as she continued to help her friend.

Atsuko peered out into the darkness and spotted something brightly lit in the distance that caught her attention. “Ahh, do you see that over there?” She pointed towards the interesting place and her friend followed.

“This is it.” Tomomi said as she parked her car out front of the exotic view of what seemed to be a gated playground.

“Wow, it’s…so beautiful.” Atsuko was awestruck when her eyes took in sight of the place. The whole playground lit up like a Christmas tree with twinkling candles placed randomly throughout the park on and off of the contraptions. The bushes that surrounded the lot were filled with beautiful flowers at the prime of their bloom and the backdrop was the magnificent view of the night sky complete with stars. Even without the lighting of the candles, the shine from the moon casted itself over the lot and the whole place illuminated an indescribable glow.

“Someone must’ve been really bored.” Tomomi said as she herself admired the place.

Atsuko squinted her eyes to get a better look, and was barely able to make out the silhouette of the person she was looking for sitting on one of the swings.

“Thanks Tomochin.” Atsuko said as she opened the door and walked out.

“Do you want me to wait for you?” Tomomi asked and Atsuko shook her head.

Atsuko turned back to look at the place and took a deep breath as her friend drove off. Slowly she walked into the gates and continued to admire at the amazing sparkles. She came to a stop the second Minami’s voice was heard.

“Haruna?” The sounds of chains were heard as Minami got up from where she sat.

“I umm…” Atsuko hesitated biting onto her lip.

“…Maeda-san, is that you?” Minami asked slightly surprised at the other girl’s appearance.

“…Your phone.” Not knowing what to say Atsuko reached into her pocket and extended out the object.

“So it was you ahah,” Minami gave a tired laugh. “You didn’t have to, I said I’d come get it.” Minami walked up to the girl and smiled.

In response Atsuko darted her eyes a bit embarrassed and replied, “But I wanted to.” The phone was then given to its original owner.

Minami, who had just received her cellphone back, clicked at the screen and looked at the timer. “…its 12:01am, and I never even got to say happy birthday.” she sighed gloomily.

“I’m sorry, am I interrupting anything?” Atsuko asked a bit confused and curious about why there were decorations set up at such a place first and all.

“Ahh, not at all…In fact,” Minami looked like she was in thought for a second, went back to where she previously sat, picked up something and placed it gently on Atsuko’s head. “Here.” As Minami fixed the elegantly done floral wreath onto the girl, Atsuko held onto her breath and nervously gripped at the hem of her skirt.

“What is it?” Atsuko asked surprised by the shorter girl’s action.

“It’s a present of course.” Minami replied with a smile and backed away a couple of steps.

Atsuko couldn’t contain the smile she had unconsciously responded to the girl’s comment. “…For?” She asked again.

Minami tilted her head in thought and then replied with, “I don’t know, but you look beautiful so I guess it doesn’t matter does it?”

Atsuko had been complimented before on numerous occasions for her beauty, but somehow when Minami had said it with such a look in her eyes…A small blush had already crept up to her cheeks and she blinked at the girl. “You don’t really make any sense.”

“Probably not, I’ve been out here alone for hours.” Minami shrugged turning around to go sit back on the swing.

As Atsuko studied over the other girl, her movements, her speech, and the emotions hidden behind her eyes, she realized something that sent a strange sensation straight to her beating heart. ‘…There was no doubt, Takahashi Minami was sad.’ And with that clear thought in mind, Atsuko walked over to the girl and sat down in the neighboring seat.

“I love my present, did you make it?” Atsuko said with a smile to Minami and the other girl just gave a small nod in return.

“I had to get rid of them. If a park ranger were to catch me with those flowers plucked from this lot…I would’ve been fined.” Minami replied.

“Eh?!” Atsuko’s gave a dumbfounded look, but burst out into a cute laughter as Minami gave her a look that read, ‘I got you.’ and giggled.

“You’re not joking are you?” Atsuko gave Minami a playful glare.

Minami pretended to whistle out randomly to cover up that she didn’t see or hear Atsuko’s question like a silly kid and then suggested something else from out of the blue. “Umm, h-hey…Let’s race and see who can swing higher!” Minami yelled out as she began to make her move.

“Aheh me, because I’m much taller.” Atsuko replied confidently and accepted the girl’s offer.

“It has nothing to do with a person’s height!” Minami retorted obviously touchy upon the subject and Atsuko merely bit on her tongue in amusement.

And even after swinging the two continued their childish competitions via other play sets. The slides, the balancing rails, and the seesaw… Although it was unusual for her to be doing such things with a person she barely knew anything about and unlikely for two adults to be doing such playful things at all, considering how late and strange the whole ideal was… Atsuko admitted that she’d never felt so carefree in her life. She couldn’t even remember ever having this much fun playing at a playground as a child in the first place.

Then there was Minami…Atsuko looked at the other girl who was busy smiling up at the sky. She knew the shorter girl was a strange one, but even so she also knew there was something completely magical about Minami as well. As Atsuko observed the other person she began to feel an attachment grow from within her being. Although there was a smile on Minami’s lips, the sweetest sadness was hidden in her eyes and slowly as Atsuko wondered, ‘…Why?’ her heart gradually reached out unknowingly to grasp at something she couldn’t yet come to fully understand.

“…Takahashi-san?’ Atsuko asked still seemingly focused onto the girl.

“Call me Takamina.” Although Minami had answered the girl, it was as though her mind had been elsewhere.

“Takamina…” Atsuko said to herself as she continued to look at Minami.

“Hmm?” Minami looked away from the sky and her eyes were met with Atsuko’s passionate gaze.

There was a heavy feeling clouding over Atsuko’s heart as she stared into Minami’s eyes. She knew the other girl must’ve wanted to cry as her eyes glistened amongst the twinkling flickers of light. Somehow she knew the girl was in pain somewhere, that she wasn’t happy, that she was disappointed, that something was troubling over her…and overwhelmingly…Somehow she was able to feel Minami’s feelings of hurt.

Under the starlit sky and troubled candlelit smile of Minami’s…Atsuko slowly reached in for the girl and embraced Minami silently with the warmth of her body, but most importantly the heart that pounded loudly from within.

‘Doki, doki, doki…’

Personal Replies:

TakaminaBG: Ahaha, don’t be upset at Haruna…Her love life is just complicated lol. Hmm…and yes Takamina is definitely broken, but she’ll be fixed soon enough! Well, about your suggestions they have been hugging lol. I can’t wait for kisses too though! Thanks so much for the comment and support yo!

Keisthename: Ahaha, your comments are always so cute ‘XD I’m sorry you had to wait even longer for this update…I’ve been so busy. I have time today though ahah, and OMG, I’ve been reading your “contract” fic a chapter a night on my iphone before I sleep. I like it, I like it, I like it! Then again with Haruna, don’t blame her lol she has her reasons.

Chibi-nyao-chan: I’m sooo sorry, I don’t know why the only things I ever write turn out sad…This update is no exception, but it will become happier soon lol. The Atsumina love will grow yay! It’s too bad Minami will get hurt though, and yes…MariHaru will hurt her, but they have their reasons lol. Thanks for the support!

Arrow27: Really? Awesome, I feel honored! I wish it was really that way though, sometimes my work gets so complicated in my head that I feel like it’s too annoying to read. I’m really glad you’re enjoying the read though. I so however, prefer a novel like style so…You’re good! Thanks a lot ‘X)

Crazywota: I’m seriously a diehard TakaHaru shipper too! I’m really thinking of starting one soon, because really there needs to be some takaharu lovin’ around the fanfic thread lol. && Don’t worry Acchan will do her job well. Thanks so much for the comment and support!

Haruko: Ahaha, don’t Haruna! The main point is that love can get complicated hehe. Well, yuko is also in this fic and her character is in love with Haruna…But I don’t think I will get into it for this side of the story. Kojiharu’s story will definitely be elaborated on in my other story ‘A Tainted Being” though. It’s about MariHaru’s beginning, the same MariHaru from this fic. Thanks for the comment and support though really! ‘:))

Tanchan: Ahaha, you’re funny. Don’t think about the future, Atsumina will definitely be happy together I guarantee it! This chapter is sad again, I’m sorry…I hope you’ll still enjoy it though. Thanks a lot for the support and commenting <3

Ichikawa: Aww, that’s awesome! It’s really nice to know someone can enjoy my fic like that you know. It’s what I’m striving for as a writer. Each and every one of my characters have their own very complicated feelings…So, I’m just hoping you won’t get all confused. Again, thanks so much for reading and commenting, the support is great!

Miayaka: OMG, I’m so sorry to disappoint you! …really. T^T I don’t mean to make this next chapter emo too, but I really tried adding lots of AtsuMina moments. From now on though after this chapter…you’ll understand why it’s after that they can be happy together lol. Ahh, and btw I like your tumblr lol.

Sese: No, no, no! You’re not late at all, I’m sorry for updating so late…I started on other complicated fics lol. Like I told ichikawa-san, I’m really touched a reader can feel my work T^T (Tears of Joy) I changed my dp and my sig though ahah. I really really hope you’ll enjoy this chapter update. You’re one of the special readers lol. Thanks so much for the comments and support!

Candlelit Smile

Chapter Four | Broken silence (Arrow27  :peace:)

“…Maeda-san?” The flickers of light illuminated a glow of apricot over their close figures. Minami wrapped an arm over the young woman to return her kind gesture, but wondered as to why she had suddenly decided to embrace her so.

“Acchan.” Atsuko’s voice was soft as she corrected Minami.

“What’s wrong?” Minami felt her cheeks grow warm as Atsuko’s heart pounded against her own.

“Why would you ask if something is wrong with me?” Atsuko griped onto the cloth of Minami’s back. “…Aren’t you the one in pain?” Her voice had become unsteady with the strange amount of baffling emotions slowly clouding inside.

Minami’s shoulder lowered slightly. Taken aback that her true feelings had been exposed she gave a small smile and tightened her hold on the body next to her own with two arms. “Thank you.” She replied whole heartedly.

As the seriousness of the situation had subsided, the two let go of each other. Feeling a hint of embarrassment they shifted around and dared not to look in one another’s eyes. “Do you umm…need help cleaning up?” Atsuko asked trying to ease up the awkward silence.

“If it isn’t a bother to you then, that’ll be great.” Minami smiled, finally having the courage to glance up at the other party.

She walked over to a bag strewn randomly on the ground and began to blow out the candles. After a candle had gone up in smokes, she dropped the flameproof block into the bag. Atsuko watched Minami’s action for a minute, before picking up the other bag and following the lead. Soon enough, one by one they took out the glimmer of lights.

Standing on opposite sides of opposing positions, the two came near the last set of candles laid out in a row on top of a tunnel. Obliterating each block of wax the two blew softly.

Moving steadily closer inwards until they reached the last lone piece positioned in the middle, the duel too submerged in their work puckered up their lips and moved in ready to blow out the final beam of light.

Leaning in at the same time the two hesitated. Finally discerning each other’s presence, Minami and Atsuko gazed up in a naively fashion and locked their view on one another. Their coy expressions were exposed blatantly in front of each other as the flame cast aglow a lively radiance surrounding them.

‘Doki, doki, doki…’ Atsuko blinked, letting the heat rise in her cheeks.

Minami quickly broke off the gaze and lifted an arm to rub at the back of her neck. “Umm...” She gave a shy smile and tightened her lips together. Atsuko naturally mirrored the adorable action as her eyes wandered down towards the dimpled grin.

Not a moment later, they let out a soft chuckle having taken into consideration the silliness of their bashful reactions. Once again staring almost too deeply into the depths of each other, the two voiced their thoughts through the affection in their eyes and silently… They simultaneously leaned in to blow out the last of flicker of light together.

Minami merely sighed as the dying smoke evaporated into the air. Atsuko on the other hand stuck out her tongue playfully and proceeded to dispose of the item. Once the top of the tunnel was cleared, the shorter girl set her arms crossed over the plastic frame and peered at her companion.

“Would you like some cake?” Minami’s face was slightly hidden in the darkness as she asks this.

“Cake?” Atsuko re-questioned. Her voice was slightly incredulous and Minami nodded.

“A really, really delicious fruit cake~ my good friend made it.” Minami confirmed. She backed away and made her was up the tiny playhouse. Picking up the desert with both hands, she presented it to Atsuko from a distance.

“You’re asking me now …like in the dark, after we’ve just finished removing all the candles?” Atsuko’s voice played out sarcastically as she shot Minami a funny look.

“I forgot about it okay?!” Minami laughed out loud and proceeded to head back down.

"...I would have loved to, but whoever that cake was intended for in the first place...You should still save it for them.” Atsuko placed a reassuring hand on Minami’s shoulder.

"..." Minami dropped her virility and slowly lowered her gaze.

After a moment of silence, “I should, shouldn’t I?” Minami looked up with a positive smile.

Atsuko noticed the shimmer in Minami’s eyes under the reflection of the moonlight and decided to change the topic. "Are you walking home?" She asked.

"Yeah, I live just a couple of blocks down the street." Minami answered.

"What do you mean just a couple?" Atsuko looked around apprehensively. "...I don't really think it's that safe.” She added.

“I’ve got no choice.” Minami shrugged.

Atsuko gave her a choice, "I can call for a cab?" she graciously suggested.

"No, it's fine…Really." Minami hated to burden others.

"Shall I walk you home then?" Atsuko smiled at Minami and held up the other bag of candles in her hand as if saying she was indeed helping out either way.

"If that’s what you want to do then… sure thing, thanks." Minami honestly felt grateful as she smiled.

Heading for their designated direction, the two exited out of the gates. Under the street lamps as well as the guidance of the illuminating moon, the sound of footsteps was all they heard for about fifteen minutes and no one spoke.

"Fwauuhha~" Minami tilted her head back and let out an exhausted yawn with her eyes closed. After her recovery, she peeked over to glance at Atsuko. The taller girl just stared at her with expressive eyes. "Is there something on my face?" She asked.

"Nope, it’s nothing at all." Atsuko pursed her lips playfully and returned to looking straight ahead, but this time with a little more bounce in the way that she walked.

Minami just observed the seemingly happy girl who was a now a couple of steps ahead. Again just like when they met, a smile had naturally graced her lips. She couldn't pinpoint what it was exactly about Atsuko that had released such a pleasant feeling from her, but she acknowledge the peculiarity that there was simply something special about how the girl made her feel.

Atsuko halted in her track and turned to look at Minami pointing at the sky with her free hand. "Did you see that?!" Her eyes shimmered as she flashed the shorter girl her pearl white teeth.

"...See what?" Minami looked around a bit apprehensively, before following the other girl’s pointed finger.

"It was a shooting star~" Atsuko clasped her hands together and looked up towards the night sky meaningfully.

"I...wasn't really paying attention." Minami smiled. She was more charmed by how the girl in front of her was overreacting to a mere shooting star.

"Stop!" Atsuko turned around and placed a hand on Minami’s shoulder. As the shorter did what she was told, they stood right in front of each other.

Minami watched in silence as Atsuko held her pretty grin and closed her eyes. After about thirty seconds she reopened them, "Thanks for waiting patiently while I made my wish ahehe~" She giggled sweetly.

Minami watched as Atsuko turned back to face the front and placed her hands behind her back. "Stars really make you that happy?" She asked bemused.

"Uhm." Atsuko nodded.

"...You know with these hands, I can catch them." There was a smugly look on Minami as she says this and Atsuko's eyes lit up.

"Is that so?" Atsuko beamed the shorter woman a playful look.

"Really, but first..." Minami's voice suddenly dies off.

"Takamina?" Atsuko furrowed her eyebrows. With an intensely distressed expression over Minami’s face, she turned to look in the same direction.

Just up ahead there were two figures interlaced in an intimate position. The taller person had their back pinned up against the side of her vehicle and the other was locked in a sensual embrace. Her head pressed up against her lover’s chest and arms wrapped amorously around her lover’s waist. The taller of the two slowly lifted up her partner’s chin and with the touch of her fingers…gingerly, their lips met in a passionate exchange.

'Ssplaat!' Atsuko jumped up at the sound of Minami’s cake hitting the ground. Out of place from its clear container, the cake turned into a mushy mess.

Feeling a bit stunned, Atsuko glanced back up to look at her disheartened companion. "...Minami?" She asked again, this time using the proper name.

The worried woman received no reply and watched as Minami dragged her feet to the affectionate couple up ahead. She hesitated before following, but made sure to keep her distance.

As Minami came up behind the two unsuspecting people she spoke up. "...What is this?" Her voice was low and the tone was conspicuously dark.

"M-minami?!" Haruna turned around and covered her mouth at the shocking sight of her girlfriend.

A thick desolation overshadowed the small group and suddenly as if it wasn’t dark enough before, darkness consumed their heavy hearts even more. Minami took a couple more staggered steps towards the two people whom she cherished the most.

Minami's lips quivered as anger turned into sorrow. After a moment of trying to keep calm, she inhaled…her breathing ragged. "Mariko...huh." With those words she choked on her anguish and the tears rolled down her rheumy eyes. She pressed down her lips hard against each other to prevent herself from crumbling down.

The guilt devoured Mariko’s being from the inside out and unable to hold over the weight of such an unwieldy shame, she was forced to look down. Dragged into a dreaded abyss she had already known was coming, meeting her best friend’s eyes had now become impossible.

Haruna on the hand shook her head ruefully and began to whimper into her hands. "I…I'm so sorry. I didn’t want to...Not like this." She failed to make any sense to Minami.

"How long…Hmm?" Minami fixed her piercing gaze firmly on Haruna and didn’t even bother to hold back the tears. The voice inside her mind screamed in agony as the reality of the situation ravaged itself into her bitter heart.

Minami felt her blood pressure rise when no answer was given. "...Is this where you guys always meet? Hiding just a block away from my apartment?!" Breathing hard from the frustration Minami tightened her fist.

Mariko’s eyes widened at hearing her best friend’s outlandish outburst. Removing herself from Haruna’s back, she quickly stepped out and knelt down apologetically in front of Minami. Trying her best to stay composed her eyes sought out for her friend’s.

“I’ve always wanted to tell you the truth. I wanted to explain…It’s my fault.” A genuine tear slid down Mariko’s cheek, “P-please…don’t blame Haruna. I was afraid you woul-”

"I don't care anymore…” Minami’s cold voice cut the woman off and pricked right into Mariko. “I don’t want to hear it.” She continued. There was nothing the person kneeling down with a pained expression could do, but take whatever that came at her. She slid a hand through her hair and acknowledged what she had done wrong.

"Minami..." Grief forcibly clawed itself gravely into Haruna. Her world had suddenly become hazed and dizzy, lips in a pout as she called out to the distressed person.

Minami's reddened eyes looked up from Mariko to meet her girlfriend. "...Did you know how long I waited for you today?" Just exactly how hurt she had been was expressed evidently through the despair in her gaze.

Again, Haruna became buried under the familiar suffocating feelings of guilt and penitence. She whimpered under her hand. There were a million thoughts racing through her mind, but not enough words to voice them.

"You should've at least thought about how much I… love you right?" Minami’s voice was broken, her entire being seemingly damaged.

“I’m sorry…” Again, an apology was all Haruna could muster out and it angered the shorter girl.

Minami reached into her pocket, tightened her grip around the tiny box she’s been preciously holding on to and chucked it hard against the ground. Upon impact, the top lid cracked open and a metallic ‘Clank’ was heard when the shiny object inside leaped out.

Haruna gripped at the side of her clothes and watched hauntingly as a beautiful ring rolled out of its case. With each passing second her heart ached as her eyes followed the small item, until it came to a stop at someone’s feet. She looked up to find a shaken stranger and suddenly realized consciously that there had been another person with them throughout the whole tangled event.

Atsuko placed a hand just under her lip and took a step back away from the ring in front of her. Not yet knowing what to do she looked back and made eye contact with Haruna. Feeling awkward and out of place she nervously glanced over to look at Minami.

Mixed emotions brewed itself inside of Haruna as she stared at the ring on the ground. “Minami…” The tears dripped down her beautifully distraught features. She reached out unsteadily, but Minami slid the bottom of her shoe back against the tough cement and took off in a sprint.

Mariko reached an arm up to grip onto Haruna’s outreached hand and stood up, then pulled her lover into a desperate hug. After about a minute, she opened up the passenger door and guided the dazed woman inside. Staring bitter sweetly into her dreary eyes, she wiped away the silent tears and pushed away the strands of hair from Haruna’s face.

Mariko stood up and closed the door, before heading over to her driver’s side. She glanced up to look at the only other person left standing outside with her. The exchanges of looks were silent and Mariko soon turned to leave. The white car started up not a moment later and disappeared into an intersection.

Atsuko just stood there trying to process everything that just happened before her. She tightened her lips together and moved forward as if to go after Minami, but her foot accidentally kicks at the tiny box in front of her. Returning to look at the items down in front of her, she picked up both of the objects and ran after the girl.

After a half an hour of searching and still not being able to find Minami, Atsuko knelt down under the lighting of a street lamp to rest her legs. She took out her phone, “...Ah.” Her eyes widened when she realized there were only a couple of hours left until dawn seeped into the sky. She stood up looked around and sighed.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Haruna’s hands trembled in her lap as Mariko drove in silence. “…She was going to propose to me.” She muttered to herself.

Every precious memory of Minami flashed through her mind and again a brimful tear streamed down her cheek. ‘I love you Haruna…’ Minami’s voice echoed hauntingly into her ears.

“I…I can’t.” Haruna slowly inched up her arms to cradle at her head.

The guilt gradually consumed her, “I can’t…I can’t do this to her.” Mentality slowly collapsing, she cried with her head down. Then, suddenly looking back up, “T-take me back!” she commanded.

Mariko pulled over and looked at her lover taken aback by the sudden outburst. “Really?” she asked in disbelief.

“It’s too cruel…” Haruna wiped at her tears.

Mariko grasped onto her lover’s unsteady hands. “Look at me in the eyes and tell me what it is… you truly want again.” Her voice was soft, but hurt.

“I...I…” The tears overflowed from Haruna’s eyes and she broke off the gaze.

Mariko guided the girl’s head gently onto her shoulder. “Aho Nyaro...” With the softness of her finger tips, she played with the girl’s hair.

“…” Haruna kept quiet as she sniffed dejectedly to herself.

“Do you remember the first time you’ve ever challenged me?” With eyes overtaken by nostalgia, Mariko’s voice was calm as always.

“…I said I would prove you wrong.” Haruna barely managed to breathe out her reply. She wiped at the tears from her face and let a saddened smile grace her lips.

“And I’ve been proven wrong. I was so wrong...” Mariko looked at the girl next to her before continuing, “Breathing inside of me, for you it exists and as part of me I know it lives. I love you Haruna, I love you so much…” Mariko’s voice trembles and a tear rolls down her cheek.

“Mariko…” Haruna covers her own mouth with a hand, her body shaken up as she cries against the woman.

“I’m sorry for treating it like nothing in the past, but that nothing did you know?” She smiled. “…That nothing was everything, it was everything to me. So, please stay with me…Just stay with me and I won’t ask for anything more.” Mariko’s eyes stared comfortingly into her lover.

Not a moment later, the taller woman felt her lover’s slender arms wrap softly around the flesh of her neck and the couple shared another tender hug.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Minegishi Minami’s phone vibrated loudly against the counter of her night stand. It’s disruption, awakening the girl from her peaceful slumber. “Muuu…” She whined.

Reaching for it lazily the girl answered, “Moshi--” She yawned. “moshi?”

“I need a favor.” The voice on the other end was serious.

“Hmm…Mariko?” Miichan rubbed at her tired eyes.

“Takamina found out…”

Minegishi’s eyes snapped open, “What?!” she yelled into the phone.

“She needs someone by her side right now…I’m counting on you okay?” Mariko’s voice betrayed a hint of sadness.

“…And Haruna?” Miichan asks a bit curious.

“She’s already fallen asleep at my place.” The woman answered.

“I see…” Minegishi nodded.

“Takamina’s just returned home, she’s sitting on the stairs.” Mariko reveals.

“I understand, but you…make sure you return home safely too.” Miichan slipped on her shoes. Maneuvering through her place she finally exits out of her apartment, cladded in just her pajamas.

“Thank you, Miichan.” Mariko expressed her gratitude just before the sound of a beep ended their call.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Five months later…

As the lukewarm water pelted on Minami’s body, she could feel her goose-bumps rise. Her hair stuck to her skin and ended up slightly tangled when she tried to brush it down with her fingers.

She released a quiet sigh and felt the water beginning to feel cold. After a while she heard a very familiar soft yet high pitched voice along with a series of loud knocking against the bathroom door.

“Takamina are you okay in there?” Miichan’s voice grew more gradually concerned with each tap.

Minami turned off the shower causing the knocking to stop. But since she wasn't answering, the girl continued on with the same worried tone. She hurried to get out and dressed herself with a fresh set of clothing she’s already prepared beforehand.

Minami exited out of the bathroom with the best smile she could fake. Drying off her damp hair with a towel, she was greeted with the sight of her good friend Minegishi.

“Why do you shower so long? ...I was worried you’d try something stupid.” Mii-chan pouted with her doe eyes big and worried.

The shorter girl simply shook her head and waved deniably at the taller girl. She smiled warmly and returned to drying off her hair.

“How long are you going to keep this up?” Minegishi bombarded Minami with the same question she’s been asking over and over again.

“…” Minami could only sigh.

Miichan placed her hands on her hips and continued, “You haven’t said a word in months…I miss your voice you know.” Her expression saddened and she puffed up her cheeks adorably.

Minami lowered her gaze and walked into her bedroom. Jumping onto the comforters of her bed she tossed a blanket over her head.

Minegishi sighed and followed the girl. She set herself on top of the bed and stared at her friend. “You’re probably criticizing me in your head right now huh?” With that said Minami uncovered herself and wrapped an arm around her friend. The gesture was to reassure the girl that she wasn’t upset.

“Anyway I came over today, because I have some exciting news!” Minegishi leaned back onto the bed and stared at her friend enthusiastically.
Minami raised a brow and the smiling girl continued, “Remember that time I registered with the casting agency?”

Minami thought about it then nodded and Minegishi smiled, “I never thought I’d actually get a call, but the director had contacted me a few days ago. He was asking if I could start immediately serving as a stand in for Yamashita Nobuhiro’s upcoming film…” She clasped her hands together.

The silent girl blinked at her friend wondering where the conversation was going, “It’s some romantic drama and I’m scheduled for today…So, you should come along with me~” Minegishi finished.

Minami narrowed her eyes at Miichan unimpressed by the idea. She didn’t want to leave the house, nor did she really feel like having to communicate with anyone in general. Her friend caught on when she rolled her eyes.

“Oh c’mon, you just have to stand on the sidelines and cheer me on.” She persuaded, “We also get to be on a real live movie set!” The bubbly girl beamed.

Still disinterested Minami shook her head no and returned back to placing the blanket over her head. Minegishi immediately pulled off the sheets and threw them on the ground. “Please…Ta-ka-mi-na.” She sounded out every syllable and shook her muted friend by the shoulders.

Minami held up her open palms as if to give in to the attack and Miichan’s eyes sparkled. “Ahhh! I’m so happy~” Minegishi flopped onto her little friend and squeezed the girl into a deathly hug.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Maeda Atsuko sat still in place on a high stool with her glasses on while rehearsing over the necessary lines for her next upcoming scene. In concentration a makeup artist skillfully polished a dab of gloss over the soft flesh of Atsuko’s lips using the bristles of a thin brush. The specialist left the actress when she’d done her job and the voice of a crew member called out to the remaining girl.

“Filming will resume in fifteen minutes.” Fixing the tiny headpiece on his ear, the man bellowed out the little piece of information into the room and exited.

Atsuko set down her script, took off her glasses and stood up to check on her reflection in the mirror. Her cheeks grew warm and a nervous feeling crept over her skin as she stared at her lewd appearance. She was dressed entirely white in only a thin camisole with an oversized button up shirt and panties. Biting onto her bottom lip she slipped off her slippers and sat back down.

Atsuko’s day had started out much like the rest since she had begun working on her upcoming film exactly sixty-four days before. She’d been excited about the opportunity, given the fact that it’d be the first film where she’s finally snagged a leading role…However, the crew and especially the director had been more on the edge lately since the last date of filming was hastily approaching.

Not to mention one of the most pivotal scenes in the entire film was scheduled to shoot in the next seven minutes… Most definitely containing subtext of something much more mature than any other experience filming she’s ever had to come across.

A knock on the door brought Atsuko out of her trance and she turned to see the director making an entrance. The bearded man cleared his throat and came to sit on top of the counter beside the girl.

Atsuko quickly fixed her appearance a bit self-conscious as she attempted to cover herself. Of course she was an actress and she had to do what she had to do wearing what was needed, but in front of a camera doing her job and being alone with an older man was a different thing.

“Before we proceed with the shooting, there will be some changes I need to discuss with you.” He warned her about the circumstances to come.

“…Changes?” Atsuko tiled her head and looked up at the older man questioningly.

“Yes, for the next scene I’ve decided it would be more effective if we tackle the gist with a more erotic approach.” He explained the idea to the girl using hand gestures to emphasize over the word erotic.

Atsuko was at a lost, “Huh?” she asked confused.

“As you already know the film is not yet rated and as of now under much thought, we would like to assess the possibility of including a nude scene.” He told her bluntly.

It took a couple seconds for the new piece of information to sink in, “…N-nude?!” Her lips parted and she continued, “This wasn’t part of the script nor was it in my contract.” She immediately rejected the proposition.

The older man kept calm, but his expression was slightly demanding. “You should understand that as a director such as myself…” He gestured towards himself, before continuing to speak. “Feel the need to alter on a project, it should and will surely be done exactly how I plan for it to be done.”

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Minami sat at a random table backstage of Toho’s films studio and shook her head disapprovingly at her friend who was happily eating away at the remains of her free obento lunch box.

“Do you want some?” Minegishi held out a half-eaten golden shrimp tempura towards the quiet girl.

Minami narrowed her eyes slightly irritated. Her friend’s acting experience lasted a mere two minutes. Filming had already progressed beyond the lighting and scene arrangements phase so the taller girl’s Standin duties were already over. The only reason they were still there was because Miichan wanted to kill time.

“Hey, hey I know that look!” Minegishi pointed at Minami with her chopsticks. “You’re saying bad things about me inside your head again.” She glared playfully.
Minami rolled her eyes without outwardly replying and Miichan continued, “So…I was wondering, since you don’t touch your camera anymore…Can I use it for the cake pictures at work?”

Minami’s shoulders slumped a bit at the request. Miichan looked as if she was unsure if she should say what was on her mind, but in the end decided to do so anyways. “I still can’t understand why you just dropped that photography job offer though…I mean I know it was Mariko who bought that camera for you bu-” Standing up from the table Minami turned to leave.

Walking out of the gigantic building, Minami released a deep sigh the cold breeze blowing at her. She blinked up at the sky in slight frustration. This had often happened to her, everything disturbed her…There were many things she couldn’t come to face the same ever again. Not since that night…

“Nyaa~” A stray cat begins to rub its tail against the leg of Minami.

The silent girl bent down next to the animal. It reminded her of a certain person and her eyes began to glisten as she gave the cat a small smile. She watched as it purred and then scurried away. Knowing Miichan would take quite a bit longer before she’d come out, Minami walked towards the backside of the lot where not many people were seen and followed the cat.

Atsuko grew more frustrated with the sudden request, “This is outrageous. Where’s my manager? I want to speak with him right away.” She said.

The director kept calm with an egoistic smile on his face, “He told me there was an emergency he urgently needed to attend and asked me politely to pass along that message to you.” The man replied.

She narrowed her eyes at him and he reopened his mouth to speak, “What’s the matter?” the director leaned in closer. “You’ve done this kind of work before, what’s a little more brazen role going to do?”

“…It’s not the same thing.” The offended actress defended.

Atsuko began to feel uncomfortable as she watched his eyes suddenly travel down her body. When he glanced back up he said something that caught her
attention, “You do understand why I chose you for this role don’t you?” He returned his footing back onto the ground and walked around her.

“What?” Atsuko asked a bit perturbed.

He snaked his hands onto her shoulder, “It’s the director who decides to make or break an amateurish actress.” He began to tug at her sleeve, the action exposing her collar bone.

“S-stop, this is wrong.” Atsuko immediately stood up from her seat.

The bearded man yawned and walked up closer to her in whom she took a step back, “It’s not too late to drop you. I can easily do so with my amount of influence.” He threatened.

“I’m going to report you.” She retorted.

The older man chuckled, “I’m merely trying to persuade you on a professional account.” He answered.

Atsuko scoffed, “Why don’t you ask Ohta Pro and see just exactly how this way of your so called professionalism really is?” She referred back to the contract between director and her agency.

“Tsk, tsk, tsk…” The man shook his head and laughed. “Shouldn’t you be thanking me instead?” he asked backing her up towards the wall.

“What do you mean?” She mustered out slightly shaken.

“If it wasn’t for me, why would anyone want to be interested in some talentless actress in the first place?” His relaxed ego made Atsuko sick.

“…” The girl felt his degrading words nail painfully into her heart.

He smirked, “Aww, you actually thought you were special?” The man continued to mock her.

Atsuko darted her gaze elsewhere and a tear slid down her cheek. Her hand reached out for the door handle next to her and the man noticed her action. He took a step back and crossed his arms.

“Go ahead and leave if you’re not willing to work.” He said.

Upset at the tone of his voice, she pulled down on the handle and slid out. Atsuko shut the emergency exit behind her and took a deep breath. The sunlight beamed down on her gloomy figure and she sniffed wiping at her tears. Adjusting to the light and sudden chill she looked down…

“Kyaa?! No, my clothes!” Atsuko span around in a flash and realized the door was locked. She hurriedly pounded on it, but the only response she’d gotten was the director’s voice yelling over on the other side that filming was canceled for the day.

She became increasingly aware of the bad situation she’s ignorantly placed herself in. A thought quickly flashed through her mind…The paparazzi was always on the lookout, especially during days like these where there was filming taking place. She’d often come across them on her way out after a day’s long work.

“Nyaa~” Atsuko’s eyes widened. Feeling another person’s presence she turned to her side and was greeted at the sight of a stunned person with a cat.

The second their eyes met...Atsuko gasped putting a hand over her mouth and the other girl immediately covered her eyes with both hands. It was the most awkward third meeting she’s ever shared with anyone in her whole life.

Staring at the familiar girl, “…Takamina?” Atsuko asked in a surprised tone.

Minami slowly set her hands down and her lips parted from what the taller girl would guess to be from shock. Atsuko hurriedly scanned the area, but her eyes soon came back to meet the shorter girl’s. “H-help me!” She squealed nervously.

Blinking at the request in response, the bewildered girl quickly took off her black sweater and wrapped it around Atsuko’s waist. Securely tying the sleeves into a knot, Minami grabbed onto Atsuko’s wrist and they made a dash for a random direction.

Minami cluelessly ran through a parking lot with Atsuko in hand and quickly they hid between the gaps of two parked cars. The two girls knelt down facing each other and it was then that Minami realized the other girl was barefoot.

Atsuko pouted, “I’ll go crazy… I’ll definitely go crazy.” She muttered hysterically.

Minami stared at the girl for a bit, before deciding to take off her white sneakers and pushing them towards the other person.

Atsuko looked up to glance at Minami in her socks and the shorter girl gave her a reassuring smile. At the generous person, the actress nearly cried as she slipped into the shoes that seemed to have fit her perfectly. For about two minutes they kept silent, just staring at each other and again, almost too deeply.

“Nyaaan?”

Minami and Atsuko nearly gasped in their own delusions as the cat from earlier found their hideout. The small animal came by and sat itself in between the two, waving its tail around stoically.

Having thought about how to help Atsuko, Minami reached into her pocket and handed the troubled girl her mobile phone.

“Ahh, thank goodness!” Atsuko said. She grabbed onto the phone and dialed for her manager. After a couple of rings and no answer, “What’s he doing this time?” she grumbled.

Minami’s eyes unconsciously glazed over the way Atsuko was dressed and with a gulp she turned away. A small blush formed on her cheeks while she lowered her head and listened to the other girl attempt to dial for another number.

Someone had finally picked up and Atsuko hurriedly gave brief details about the situation she was currently in. The conversation was however short-lived and the nervous girl on the phone finally ended the call. She handed the phone back over to Minami who gently took it back from her.

“Luckily they have someone inside the building that will come get me right away.” Atsuko said, her eyes somewhat shy.

Minami could only nod in response. An awkward silence quickly enveloped the two soon after. Glancing back and forth, from and two each other every other thirty second… Memories from their last meeting returned.

Atsuko bit onto her lip and held her gaze onto Minami, “So…How are you?” she asked trying to make their situation less awkward than it already was.

Minami looked up from the ground with a small smile and her eyes met Atsuko’s. An image of the two staring at each other, before blowing out the last candle suddenly flashed through her mind and silently…Atsuko understood the answer simply by looking into the emotions flowing in Minami’s glossy eyes.

“Maeda-san?!” A man called out from an open windshield as he pulled up in car.

“Y-yes, I’m here.” Atsuko replied turning to look at the guy, yet hesitant as she glanced back to stare at Minami.

The silent girl waved goodbye to her and that was enough to slap some sense back into her. “Thank you.” Atsuko replied.

Minami watched as Atsuko climbed into the vehicle and they hurriedly drove off.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Minami stirred in bed the next day…

“Takamina?!!!” Minegishi’s voice sounded loud and desperately.

"Nyaa~" The stray cat from the day before, now fresh and clean as well as inside of Minami's house leaped out of the bed at the disruptive noise.

Minami placed the covers over her head and turned to her side. The voice of her friend intruding into her apartment, yet another morning was not a pleasant thing at all.

Minami suddenly felt the whims knocked out of her when a body recklessly plops on top of her. Removing the blanket from over her head, she felt her crazed friend pinch at her cheeks hard. “You need to explain yourself!!!” Miichan yelled at her.

Forcibly snapped out of her dreamy state, the tired girl pulled away the hands by her face and glared at the intruder. It didn’t take long until a newspaper flapped over her face. Alarmed, Minami sat up and took a look at the news…

There on the front page a huge picture of Atsuko and herself holding hands publically was printed. In bolded capital letters the headlines screamed, “Actress
Maeda Atsuko dressed in a racy outfit caught holding hands with an unnamed woman!” Minegishi read out loud.

Minami’s eyes widened in disbelief, how they were even able to capture a picture of them two together in that short amount of time was beyond her. She quickly scanned over the remaining text.

“That’s you isn’t it?!” Miichan asked going ballistic.

At the question Minami released the thousandth sigh that month and rubbed at her temples. She shook her head, and closed her eyes.

“Speak, speak, speeeeeaaaaak!” Miichan demanded shaking Minami’s shoulders.

They both jolted up at the sound of Minami’s ringtone going off. Minegishi reached for the small item and handed it to the girl now lying down on the bed. She watched intently and kept quiet to see what was to come.

Minami switched on the phone for the call and a strong voice from the other end began to speak, “Is this Takahashi-san?” The person asked.

“….” She didn't answer.

'Yes!" Miichan spoke into the phone and answered for the mute girl.

“We’ve all heard about how well you’ve tried your best to handle Maeda’s situation yesterday. She has already explained to us what really went on, and after quite some thought on how to clear this matter… I as the president of Ohta Pro have a proposition for you.” The man said from the other line.

Minami didn’t utter a sound and he continued, “How would you like to be her manager?”

She couldn’t believe what she heard, nor did Miichan who was busily eavesdropping.

“…M-manager?” Minami finally stuttered out her first word after months.

Aw, Minami finding out was so sad :( Can't beleive how badly Haruna and Mariko handled the whole thing! If they'd told her the truth from the beginning Takamina would have understood a bit more :P
Amazing chapter as always! It wasn't confusing at all :) & I'll also continue to support Atsumina :D Can't wait to see them on Domoto Kyoudai together sept 9th :D
& Glad Miichan is there for Takamina, but she shouldnt have kept the secret as well -_-" Really wonderful chapter, sad with minami not speaking but I found her third meeting with Atsuko pretty funny how she covered her eyes in the beginning lol :D Can't wait for your next chapter and more Atsumina! Thanks for the update ^^

& This is just a suggestion, for the chapter name you can make it something to do with how Minami's hurt caused her stop speaking, or how she uttered her first word after hearing about being manager in which Atsuko was technically involved :) So something like, Broken Silence, Forgotten Words, Dormant Voice, Soundless Mourning.

lol not to sure :P

The first time Takamina talks in month is when it's involved Atsuko. This is fate XD. I could imagine her face when she saw Acchan in that state 8). Yeah for Taka-manager. With her no one will dare bully Acchan
