Chapter 1:The Destination
"Good afternoon passengers. This is the pre-boarding announcement for flight JA8119 to Japan. We are now inviting those passengers with small children and any passengers requiring special assistance to begin boarding at this time. Please have your boarding pass and identification ready. Regular boarding will begin in approximately ten minutes in time. Thank you."
"Oh! I think that's our flight," Mariko said as she taps the other girl's shoulder.
Now I'm going to Japan to start a new life, to find my special someone and to search my own happiness−I think? Maybe to find the real 'me' too.
Well, I am the only daughter of a family that has a big name in the business industry.
So it's to be expected of me to be a perfect successor of the family business. Though people think that, the Shinoda Mariko that they know, that perfect person that they know of, is really the person I hate the most. Yes, I hate my self. I've always believed that this perfect person they think I am is really not me. It's just a puppet they toy around with. A lifeless puppet that's just follow whatever it is they want me to be. Most of the time, I just feel used.
At a young age, they push me around to do this and to do that. They cut my hair like a boy's would and even force me to dress like a boy and even act like them. Hopefully at the age of 14 they never pushed me to dress like a boy. But still I never did enjoy my life as a kid.
Oh? Do I sound dramatic? Well, never mind because I'm used to being dressed like a boy when I'm at home.
Now I'm going to Japan. I'm so excited, you know?
It's Japan, the City of the Rising Sun, the place where I was born.
I've never been to Japan before, that's why I'm so excited.
I wonder, out of all the countries around the world, why hadn't we ever had our business there?
"Mariko . . . Come on. We don't want to miss our flight." the short girl said.
Okay! . . . Let’s forget about those things because the ribbon loving short girl is also excited.
"I'm coming. So, what do you think about Japan?" I smiled and asked her as I walk beside her.
"Well, they say it's beautiful there. And from what I'd seen of photos of Japan...yes . . . they were right. It's beautiful." she said with glimmering eyes.
"What’s with that perverted smile?" I smiled and teased her.
If you’re asking why she's excited, it’s because of the fact that she has a crush on the number 1 top artist in Japan, Meada Atsuko. It's not that she told me that she has a crush on that actress, but there's this one time that I caught her looking at some of the pictures of that actress. She looks like tomato that day and for the whole day, she didn't talk to me. So I concluded that she has a crush on her. Since that day I teased her whenever she's reading some Japanese magazine wherein there's an article of that Meada Atsuko.
"Erase that annoying smile of yours please? I am not thinking about that girl," she said as she flips her phone to call someone while she continues to walk.
"Well, your the one who says that. I am not saying that you're thinking about 'that' girl.” I teased her again and I was enjoying this.
"─and . . . who is that you're calling any way?” I asked as I follow her.
"It's the most trusted lawyer of your family, Yasushi Akimoto. I will call him to arrange the papers for your new name," she replies in a monotone voice, waiting for the other line to pick up. Probably still a little bit annoyed.
She's Takahashi Minami she's my best friend and also a childhood friend. We've known each other since I was a child. My only playmate− hate that fact but she's the only one I am allowed to be with.
The Takahashi family is well-known as the right hand of the Shinoda family since...I don't know when.
Their family serves us as a butler. The responsibility is probably passed down to their first born child. Unfortunately the only child and the only successor of the family is a girl.
My family doesn't want her to be my butler. Why? Isn't it obvious? She's a girl and for all you know there had no records of a female butler before. Ever.
After she received the news that she's not allowed to become my butler, she went to our mansion to face my grandfather but wasn't allowed to. So she hacked the system and faced all the traps and killed all the men that blocked her way. If you’re asking how she hacked the system, the answer is when she was around 5 years old and I'm 7 at that time. We were forced to study and manipulate computers under our grandpa's will.
He was amazed by Minami that at the age of 8, this midget can kill 200 skilled men with a sword and a gun. Well, she has a blood of a Yakuza and that mafia is known as a prophet of a demon for many centuries. The only person who can stop them is our family. It probably started when my great-great grandfather had a fight with her great-great grandfather. Her great-great grandfather was defeated by mine. Her great-great grandfather was about to kill himself for being ashamed in losing a fight. To gain their family dignity−cause there is a saying that "I'd rather die than to loss in the fight"− he needed to kill himself. When her great-great grandfather was about to kill himself, my great-great grandfather decided that his family will serve our family. That's the start of when the family of Takahashi was serving our family until now. Okay let's forget about that great-great story.
“Ahm . . . our paper is ready. Your name when we go there is Shino Mariko,” Minami said as she puts back her phone inside her pocket.
“W− what . . . ?”
“What about you? What's your name?” why should I change my name?
“Still the same”
“That’s not fair!!” I pout.
“Well between us, you’re the rich, popular and all. That's why it has to be this way. And this is also for your own good. We don’t want to attract the public about you coming to Japan just because, right?”
Well, she has a point but−
“That’s still unfair . . .”
"This is the final boarding call for passengers Shinoda Mariko and Takahashi Minami booked on flight JAJA8119 to Japan. Please proceed to gate 4 immediately. The final checks are being completed and the captain will order for the doors of the aircraft to close in approximately five minutes time. I repeat. This is the final boarding call for Shinoda Mariko and Takahashi Minami. Thank you."
“Oh! That’s us . . . Come on!!!− What are you waiting for? “
“I’m coming! You don’t have to yell at me!!!” I’m still a little bit pissed off about that name change name thing.
Well now we are going to Japan.
