AtsuYuu: Spider Queen
Oshima Yuko was a third year in her primary school and she was very popular among the kids. She was well liked by the teachers and the kids loved to play with her always by her side. Yuko was an outstanding student getting the on of the best grades in her class and receiving awards for other academic achievements. Yuko was the role model of an excellent student and so she was very popular in the school. However, there was another girl in the school who was just as popular as Yuko. Maeda Atsuko is a second year who is just as good as Yuko with only a few things different. The two were constantly battling each other when it came to events. Yuko would fly past Atsuko in the sports festival but Atsuko would knock her back in the quiz battles. Atsuko was a beautiful musician for a girl her age and could play the piano and violin. Yuko on the other hand was an amazing artists and would create beautiful drawings that are even hung in the walls of the classroom. The two girls were equally skilled and talented but there was one thing that determined the best of the best. In the beginning of the school year, the kids loved to play outside when it was break time before lunch. Out on the playground there was a jungle gym that had three separate ladders coming together to make a triangular space in the middle. The ladders bent in an L shape with a curve on the end to let kids climb up. The large structure was known as the Spider and the one who sat at the top was known as the Spider Queen.
It was a new school year and Yuko was ready to claim her spot on the top of the Spider. Last year Atsuko had claimed it and Yuko was forced to sit on the lower levels of the Spider. Everyone knows that anything below the top of the Spider means you aren't very powerful and so people with trample over you. The only reason Yuko wasn't picked on last year was because she was strong and so people knew not to mess with her. This year though Yuko wasn't going to lose and so she prepared herself for what she thought was going to be the biggest battle of her life.
"Yuu-chan it's time for school!"
"Hai~"
Pulling into school, Yuko walked into the building and was greeted by her usual friends. They were all glad to see her Yuko was happy to see her friends as well. She then walked into her classroom where she was greeted by the teacher. Sitting at her desk, she chatted with her friends and then she came in. Looking up, Yuko saw Atsuko walk in her with group of friends making her way over next to Yuko. The two stared at each other for a long time before Atsuko smiled and said,
"It's good to see you Yuko."
"Nice to see you too Atsuko." Yuko smiled.
"I look forward to break today."
"As do I."
The bell rang and the class began with a good start. The two decided to keep it low and quiet because they were saving energy for the battle to come. The class day continued and then finally the moment had come to the great battle. The battle for the title of Spider Queen. Yuko and Atsuko walked outside next to each other all the way to the middle of the playground. Everyone gathered around to watch what was about to happen and then it began. Yuko pointed upwards to distract everyone while she ran straight for the Spider. She thought she had won already but sadly she was wrong for as she was running she suddenly tripped on something. She looked over and saw two of Atsuko's friends laughing while holding a string. Meanwhile Atsuko was making her way to the Spider but Yuko wasn't going to let her win. She knew Atsuko would have something like this planned so she too had something up her sleeve. Atsuko was about half way there when suddenly Atsuko stepped and tripped. Yuko had dug a hole on the last day of school just for this moment and it worked for Atsuko was down so she sprinted to the Spider.
Because Yuko was athletic, she made it to the Spider a lot fast than Atsuko. However Atsuko wasn't going to go down so easily. Knowing her disadvantage, Atsuko had planned something else to help her. Yuko had just started to climb the Spider when suddenly four kids jumped her and latched onto her. They were heavy and Yuko couldn't shake them off so she had no choice but to climb. Using all her strength, Yuko pulled herself up the Spider making slow progress. Atsuko on the other hand was climbing the Spider with ease and so Yuko released her weapon. Yuko had the biggest kid in the school grab onto Atsuko and drag her down but she wasn't going down easily. Now both Atsuko and Yuko were climbing up slowly carrying weight on them. The other kids were cheering for them and the results were getting closer and closer. Yuko wasn't going to lose though and so she threw her body into maximum overdrive and climbed faster than ever. In the end, she reached the top bar and claimed it for herself making her the winner. Atsuko on the other had, was dragged back down onto the ground and landed with a thud. With this, Yuko had won and Atsuko had lost.
After a long day of battle it was time for lunch and Yuko was starving. Sitting with her usual friends, Yuko ate happily knowing that she had won the battle. Her friends had given her all kinds of treats to congratulate her on her victory and so Yuko was having the time of her life. When lunch was about over, Yuko went to the bathroom to take a quick leak before heading off to class. She walked in and saw a bunch of girls walk out in a hurry for some reason. Yuko walked inside and found Atsuko on the ground crying. She looked beaten and bruised and Yuko could only guess that those girls before had something to do with it. Yuko walked over to Atsuko and asked,
"Are you ok?"
Atsuko stopped crying and nodded her head slowly while trying to get up. She was weak though and started to fall back down but Yuko caught her. Atsuko pushed Yuko away and stood up looking at her with a dark look. It was then Yuko realized that those who lose the battle end up on the lower ranks. Yuko survived because she was strong but Atsuko was different. Atsuko wasn't strong like Yuko and so she was an easier target to pick on. Atsuko couldn't defend herself and now because of Yuko, Atsuko was going to be treated like this for the rest of the school year. Atsuko left the bathroom in a hurry and Yuko didn't see her for the rest of the day for she had gone home. Deep down inside Yuko knew it was wrong and so she had a plan to fix the wrong she had done.
The next day at break, Yuko found Atsuko along behind a tree staring at the ground. She saw her things had been thrown into the dirt and became messy and torn. Yuko picked up Atsuko's things and handed them back to her only to be hit out of her hand. Atsuko became angry and said,
"What do you want?"
Yuko looked at her and said,
"I want you to come with me."
"Why?"
"Just do it."
Yuko took Atsuko's hand and pulled her over to the Spider and together they climbed to the top. The triangular space in the middle had just enough room for two people and so Yuko sat Atsuko down and then stood up. She looked at all the kids staring at her with a strange look and said,
"Listen up! Anyone who messes with Atsuko messes with me so if you hurt her I'm coming for your heads!!!"
All the kids understood loud and clear and respected Yuko's choice. Satisfied, Yuko sat down and stared at Atsuko smiling. Atsuko was confused and so she asked,
"Why did you do this for me?"
"Well it gets kinda lonely being up her all by yourself so I thought maybe you'd like to join me and we can rule together!"
"That sounds fun! Thank you Yuko."
"No problem Acchan~"
"Oi who told you my nickname?!"
"Secret~"
"Mou Yuko!"
From that moment on Yuko and Atsuko spent the rest of their days playing together at the top of the Spider side by side. They were more happier than they were before seeing that they had found true friendship that day. Atsuko and Yuko became best friends and were always together everyday. The rules of the Spider had been broken and the two had rewritten its laws with the intent of peace and friendship. Together, the two girls ruled the playground holding the true title of the Spider Queen.
