I slowly opened my eyes and saw Airi, sitting near a hospital bed, crying. I tried calling to her, but she didn’t hear me.
I reached out, tried to touch her… but my hand went right through her chest.
That’s when I saw… the person in the hospital bed, connected to all sorts of life support machines, was… Was me….
“Churi...” her tears flowed down her face, as if it were a waterfall. I couldn’t stand seeing her in pain… Physically and mentally…
Through those two years, I’ve realised my love for her. Now, it might take longer for me to love her as much as I can…
Meanwhile….
Airi’s POV
Akane….
“Airi-chan,” Someone called my name from outside, “It seems you have a deep connection with one of my students.”
“Otou-san...”
“It’s been a while.”
“Un..”
“Takayanagi-chan has suffered major injuries, which could cost her, her life.”
“Eh?”
“She may not recover. There is a small chance of her regaining consciousness.”
“No… It can’t be..!”
“I’m sorry, Airi,” he tried to comfort me, which didn’t work, “She was one of the most hardworking students I’ve had in at least 20 years.”
The phone on the bedside table rung. I picked it up and saw the Caller ID.
“Rena...”
I answered it, instantly hearing her worried voice.
“Airi-chan?”
“Ohayo, Rena-chan.”
“Are you okay? Were you caught in the earthquake?”
“Yeah, kinda...”
“EH?! You alright?”
“Yeah, I’m just in crutches. My girlfriend suffered the major injuries...”
“Wait? You have a girlfriend? Why are you in crutches?”
“Her name’s Takayanagi Akane and I’m in crutches because I have a bad leg injury.”
“I’m coming to you. What room?”
“348.”
She then hung up and after an hour, she came and hugged me tight.
“Dear Lord, I was so worried about you!”
“Gomen ne, Rena...”
She then turned to look at pale girl in the bed, showing sympathy for me.
“So this is your girlfriend~”
“Un…”
“She must’ve been really brave. To save you the way she did.”
Then we heard a knock on the door. We saw two girls come in. Both in suits.
“Uh, does Akane-chan know you two?” A cute girl asked us.
“Me? No, but my friend Airi here does!”
“E-Eh? Uh, y-yeah…. She confessed to me earlier on...”
“EH?! Akane never told us--”
“Wait… You know when you were preparing for your case whilst I was preparing for that big conference?”
“Oh, naruhodo~ So you’re that Furukawa Airi, she’s been telling us about~”
“Hai, yoroshiku onegaishimasu.”
“Ah~ Watanabe Miyuki desu yoroshiku, nee?” The taller, cuter girl introduced herself.
“Yamada Nana desu~”
“Akane-chan must’ve wanted you to stay alive for her to do that...”
There’s no point in living anymore, when you’re not around….
