AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! What am I doing... I'm doing this right!
By the end of the month Haruka, was beginning to open up more each time she went to her appointments with Yuko. It was helping her more than she had expected and Miyuki noticed it as well. The nightmares didn't happen anymore for a couple of weeks until one night. Haruka had woken up confused, expecting that the nightmares would have stopped completely after her sessions with Yuko. That morning Haruka arrived earlier to her appointment. Yuko gladly took her in even so.
Haruka began to rage about wanting the nightmares to stop, she hated them. "This is suppose to stop them, it's suppose to help me!" She raised her voice while she paced back and forth.
Yuko only sat in her chair with a pen and pad watching Haruka calmly.
"Help me, here. I want these nightmares to never come back." Haruka stopped in her spot and turned to Yuko pleading to her.
"I can't help you stop you're nightmares, Haruka." Yuko calmly responded.
"what do you mean? I came for help!" Haruka sat on the couch, mad at the counselors calm demeanor.
"Tell me about your nightmare." Yuko requested as she began to write on her notepad.
Haruka sighed, sitting back on the couch. She began to remember the nightmare, explaining it to the counselor.
"Is this the first time your ex-husband appeared in one of your nightmares?" Yuko asked.
Haruka answered with a, yes.
"Did he know about your affairs?" Yuko asked.
Haruka furrowed, "I don't think so..."
"And did he know about the miscarriage?"
Haruka shook her head. "I stopped speaking to him after the divorce."
"Did you ever feel the need to tell him about it?"
Haruka thought for a second. "It crossed my mind once. Before leaving Japan, but I thought it wouldn't matter."
Yuko began to write again giving a nod.
"Why do you always write? I realized you only let me talk and talk, but you never answer me. You've never really given me a solution to my problems." Haruka said, realizing this at the last session.
"Because I can't solve it for you, I can only... Lead you to it."
Haruka tilted her head. "Didn't I come here for help."
"And your getting it." Yuko smiled.
Haruka was somewhat angry at her reply and now stayed silent.
Yuko only watched Haruka silently, and she knew she was being analyzed by her. "Can you stop?" Haruka asked.
Yuko only gave her a toothy smile. "Okay." She looked back down at her notepad. "Now, your ex-husband wasn't the only one in your nightmare. You mentioned Sayaka and Yui as well."
Haruka again thought back to her nightmare. "They all stood around me telling me to pick between the two... That's when my ex appeared yelling at me about the baby... There was so much screaming, I couldn't handle it and I woke up..."
Yuko didn't move an inch only listened intently to her patient. "Hmmmm..." Yuko finally made a sound. "Did you say anything in your nightmare?" She asked.
"I tried to but I couldn't..." Haruka replied, her eyes shifting down to her lap.
"And have you tried talking to them in person?"
Haruka looked up at her. "No way!" Haruka quickly replied. "I can't talk to them, they must hate me. I can't bear bringing them pain just by seeing me."
"Try talking to them, maybe that will help." Yuko said placing her pen and notepad on the table beside her. Haruka opened her mouth to say something but Yuko beat her to it. "You've tried talking to Sayaka before remember?"
Haruka remembered. The night she called her and hung up.
"You must have done it for a reason." Yuko said.
Haruka sat silently.
"Well, that's all the time we have." Yuko interrupted her thoughts.
Haruka looked at the clock, surprised at how quick time goes by. She pouted wanting to finish this talk, hoping for some answer from her counselor but instead she left, feeling like she had no help at all.
In the evening Miyuki arrived to a quiet home, finding Haruka laying on the couch sleeping soundly. All she could do was smile. Approaching her she thought of waking her up so sh could go to sleep in her bedroom, yet she couldn't bring herself to do it. She knows when Haruka was waking up in the middle of the night, she heard her walking around the apartment sometimes. Seeing she was comfortable on the couch, she grabbed a blanket and threw it over her. Haruka shifted a bit and Miyuki froze hoping she wouldn't wake up. She didn't.
Miyuki turned back to put her things away and get out of her clothes and into some pajamas, her phone rang, indicating she had a text. Miyuki tried shutting the sound off so it wouldn't wake her friend. When she turned to check if Haruka was still fast asleep, she found her sitting up, rubbing her eyes, and letting out a yawn as she turned to look at Miyuki.
Miyuki sighed. "I'm sorry."
"It's okay." Haruka ruffled her hair.
"How long did you sleep for?" Miyuki asked. She began to make her way to her and sit with her.
"I'm not sure." Haruka answered. Then she remembered. "Your dinner, I forgot to make it!" Haruka's eyes finally opened up completely.
"It's okay," Miyuki calmed the girl, "I'll order some food for us."
Haruka gave a cute smile. "Pizza?"
Miyuki giggled. "Sounds good. I'll pay!"
"Yay!" Haruka stretched her arms out.
Miyuki noticed now her friend looked a little more relaxed, even with the nightmares occurring still, she looked a tad happier. She thought about asking how the session went with the counselor, but decided tonight would be a fun night.
"I'll go get changed and order the food." Miyuki got up and headed to the bedroom to change. Walking over to get her clothes she remembered she received a text message. Checking it, she found Sayaka's name on the screen.
'I'll call you in an hour.' The message read.
Miyuki hadn't heard from her. Sayaka had called a few times, but each time Miyuki wasn't near her phone or she was too nervous to speak to her after she found out Haruka was with her.
"Hey," Miyuki called out to Haruka, "why don't we go out instead?" She made her way back to the living room where Haruka began to get up and stretch. "We haven't gone out to a bar or anything like that since we moved here."
Haruka looked at her a little surprised. "Uhm... Sure, why not?" She agreed with a small smile, not really caring much as to why Miyuki wanted to go out now.
"Good. Go get dressed." Miyuki smiled at her. She turned back to her room and threw her phone on the bed, she wasn't ready to speak to Sayaka. Not tonight.
The city of Paris was magnificent in Haruka's eyes as she walked down a busy street with bars and clubs on each side of the street. She watched as young people walked by with friends or lovers. The exciting, happy, let loose atmosphere was rubbing off on her enjoying as her and Miyuki walked side by side to the nearest club that had mostly foreigners, which Miyuki knew from her previous time in Paris. The people at work had showed her around and this is the place she liked, wanting Haruka to check it out as well.
The two were standing in line wearing the most provocative dress they owned, though Haruka didn't want to wear the short dress. Miyuki had to beg her to put it on that way the two can get in for free and get free drinks. Haruka had complained, saying she had money for the two, but Miyuki didn't accept that and threatened her with tickling. Haruka gave in and threw on the dress, constantly pulling it down to cover more of her thighs.
"Stop, it's suppose to be like that." Miyuki slapped her hand.
"I usually wear longer dresses." Haruka pouted.
"Well not tonight." Miyuki said.
Haruka tried to sneak her hand back down to pull the dress down again when two tall French guys approached them, speaking in English with a small French accent. "Would you two join us?" One blonde guy asked, pointing into the club.
Miyuki turned to Haruka giving her a smirk. "See, this is why I made you wear this dress." She then caught her trying to pull the dress down and slapped her hand and taking it. "We will join you." She replied in English as well with an accent.
The guys stepped aside to let them go first. Haruka had resisted, but Miyuki tugged her and walked along, their high heels clacking on the pavement with the two guys behind them.
They made it into the club, electronic music blaring in the whole building. Haruka looked at the sea of people, amazed by it. Miyuki had smiled as Haruka roamed with her eyes. "You thought your dads parties were fun." She had shouted beside Haruka.
The French boys had been set up in a VIP. Haruka and Miyuki had joined them since they got free champagne from them. Miyuki tried her best to speak with the guy, however communication kept failing with the lack of French and English. Haruka on the other hand was able to learn more French from the guy. It was an okay time for her, that was until the guy placed his arm around her once he moved closer to her. Haruka tapped Miyuki's hand and Miyuki turned to see. Haruka pleading for saving and of course Miyuki did.
"I'm up for dancing!" Miyuki exclaimed. She stood up not waiting for the guys and took Haruka's hand running out the VIP and onto the dance floor.
The two began to dance and just feel the energy from the people surrounding them. Haruka couldn't help but loosen up with the people around. If they danced and jumped she did too. It was a good feeling, something she hadn't felt in a long time. For Miyuki, it was the same. She forgot about everything and danced along with her friend with a smile she couldn't get rid of. The music, the people, the drinks they drank, it helped them have fun even if it's just for a little while.
Tired from dancing the two headed to the bar ditching the VIP area and those French boys. They ordered some drinks and moved on to a corner lounging area with seats and tables.
"See, you're having fun." Miyuki had to raise her voice only a bit since the music wasn't as loud in the corner.
Haruka smiled. "Yeah. I'll admit, I am."
"I'm happy to hear that." Miyuki scrunched her nose at her friend and Haruka did the same.
While the two sat conversing and resting their poor feet they kept meeting new people that would come up to them and just randomly talk to them. It was just like the first Miyuki came. People were friendly and many wouldn't hit on them just because, they were there to have fun like them. Still, they got their fair share of men and women hitting on them but they would be saved by others.
They made friends even if it was hard to communicate, they just found a way and still had a good laugh.
They finished their drinks and a young Italian man had offered beer to everyone in their new small group. Haruka had volunteered to help him bring back the beer bottles. The two stood at the bar trying to save over the bartender. Haruka then stepped on the stool beside her to lean over the bar and get the bartenders attention. He finally turned and saw her making his way to her and her new Italian friend. Just as Haruka was about to step off the stool her heel got caught and began to fall back.
"I got you."
Haruka was caught in someone's arms. She looked up to find a young woman looking down at her smiling and asking, "are you, okay?"
Haruka stared for a moment.
"Are you alright?" She asked again, in Japanese this time.
"Yeah..." Haruka finally replied and tried to stand on her own two feet now.
The young woman helped her and Haruka fixed her dress hoping no one saw up her skirt.
"Are you okay?" The young Italian man she had gone to get beers asked.
Haruka nodded. "I'm fine. Thanks to.." She turned to the young woman.
"Shimada Haruka. But you can call me Haruu." She said, giving a slight bow to Haruka and extending her arm to the man.
"Well now we have a new friend for our group!" The Italian man exclaimed, extremely happy for a new member for their group. He turned back and order one more beer and some extra shots of tequila. Haruu and the man took a tray each, one of beers and one of tequila shots, taking it back to the table.
Getting back to the table where all the young men and women were yelling and laughing, they placed the trays on the tables and everyone cheered for more drinks, thanking the man. He then introduced Haruu to the group and everyone welcomed her.
They all grabbed their shot and took it in one go each making a face. Haruka let out a small sound and Haruu turned to her laughing.
"Don't laugh." Haruka said.
"I'm sorry, it was a cute sound." Haruu replied.
"I never said my name." Haruka placed her shot glass down. "I'm Shimazaki Haruka and this is-"
"Watanabe Miyuki." Miyuki had jumped in to introduce herself.
"Nice to meet you two." Haruu smiled.
The rest of the group introduced themselves to her as she did as well. They all had their beer and continued their conversation with one another, talking about where they are from and what they were doing in Paris. Haruka had heard a couple of them had left their home to get away from problems just as she had done. Still some began to say the difficulties of running away from them and it began to hit Haruka. They were in similar situations and they wanted to go home and fix the problem, yet she didn't want to, that was until now. She was having a good time but the serious conversation had hit her.
"I'll be right back." She had leaned to Miyuki's ear.
"I'll come with." Miyuki placed her beer down.
"It's okay. Stay. I'll be quick."
Miyuki didn't really want her to go on her own, but she knew she was taking a quick break because of the conversation. She let her go though.
Haruka had gone to the restroom. Walking in she saw a few girls chatting away as they brushed passed her and walked out. Now, she was alone.
She grabbed some paper towels and wiped some sweat off her forehead and looked at herself in the mirror, clearly she was almost drunk but still able to walk. All she did was stare at herself in the mirror, her thoughts from earlier in counseling rushing back into her head. Yui, Sayaka, her ex-husband... The baby, they all came popping back in her head. She took a deep breath to try and forget it and continue her night of fun, but it was hard.
She heard the bathroom door creek open and she quickly turned the faucet on and splashed her face with cold water.
"Is everything, okay?"
Haruka turned, hearing Haruu's voice. She quickly gave her a nod and smile. "I'm fine."
Haruu raised a brow, "are you sure? I know I'm a stranger and all, but it's always best to talk to a stranger." She smiled.
Haruka couldn't help but smile back. "Uh..." She chuckled, "the conversation at the table..."
"About running away?" Haruu asked.
"Yeah." Haruka turned her body and faced her, leaning her ass on the sink. "I ran away as well and it hasn't been the best for me... I thought if I got away from where it all happened, I would forget it and move on... It hasn't been like that." She told her, feeling trust towards her.
Haruu hummed as she leaned against one of the bathroom stalls. "Running away is only a short problem solver, but know soon you have to go back home and face the problem that way it won't eat you alive." Haruu said.
It was pretty much what Yuko was telling her at the appointment today. Guess she should take it as a sign.
"What if I'm scared?" She then asked.
"Then you'll always be scared and never know if the problem would have been fixed or not." Haruu replied.
Haruka crossed her arms, her brows scrunching together, thinking really hard. Haruu watched her with a small smile. Haruka glanced up when she felt eyes on her and found Haruu smiling as she tucked her hair behind her ear.
"Stop staring." Haruka pouted.
"I'm sorry, again." Haruu apologized. "Let's go back, yeah?"
Haruka nodded and the two headed back to their new group of friends.
The club closed at 2 am and the party was just getting started for Miyuki, Haruka, and their new group of friends. One of the older ladies had a house just a drive away. They jumped into taxis and drove off to her house. Packed in the taxi Haruka was lucky enough to sit next to Haruu, the two blabbing on and on. Miyuki watched the two, a little jealous her friend was taken from her but a little happy Haruka was finally making friends.
"So, why did you come to Paris?" Haruka asked Haruu.
"I'm actually traveling." Haruu replied with a smile.
"Really?" Haruka was very interested in hearing how her traveling was going. "Where have you gone to?"
"I've traveled to Italy, Spain, Germany, England, and now here." Haruu told her.
"And how's it been so far?" Haruka asked.
"It's been great, only robbed once." Haruu laughed. "But other than that, I've pretty much seen the most incredible places and made really amazing friends. Just like tonight." Haruu grinned as she stared at Haruka, causing her to slightly blush.
Haruka had to turn away to hide it but she knew she was caught. The way Haruu looked at her, was with these endearing eyes, curious to know her more and Haruka couldn't help but feel a little giddy from the stare, it was something she hasn't felt for months. She was honestly interested in Haruu, but thinking about Yui and Sayaka, she began to debate whether she should let herself try and get to know Haruu more or drop it and stay friends.
She turned back to her ready to continue her conversation with her, but the taxi halted. They looked out the window finding a glamorous villa. Everyone poured out of the taxis with their mouths agape; awed by the house.
She lead the group in showing them around from the bedrooms, bathrooms, to the pool in the backyard. Haruka didn't feel they had driven far from the city but looking at the scenery outside it felt like she wasn't near the city. The older lady then lead them to the family room with games and a bar, asking them if they wanted a drink. Everyone began relaxing in the family room having a drink in hand and playing games when the Italian young man asked to play a card game. They all huddled to the poker table and sat around. The game he requested was a drinking one. Since the table only held six seats only six jumped in to play, Haruka was one of them as well as Haruu. Miyuki stood behind Haruka and became her supporter. When the game began, Haruka wasn't able to understand and lost the first round earning a shot of whisky. She, and two others, took the shot. Haruka's face scrunched up and Haruu could only hold back her laughter.
They continued the game and after two rounds Haruka got the hang of it and made sure Haruu would lose the next one. Win! Haruka got Haruu and beat her. She handed her the whisky shot with a wide grin. "Drink up!"
Haruu only stared at her as she took the shot without wincing. Haruka was impressed.
After a couple rounds Haruka was out, she had enough to drink and told Miyuki to play. Miyuki had said alright, joining the game after learning quickly on how to win. Miyuki was making sure she would win, she had enough drinks and she needed to care for her friend. Haruka watched her friend impressed at her skills. However, minutes later she felt like the room was warm and decided to head up to the backyard and just lounge in the fresh air.
Haruka had made her way to the backyard stumbling, taking a deep breath of fresh air and feeling the cool breeze. She was just beginning to realize how much she had drank, but she didn't care, she felt good. Stumbling to the side of the pool she began to remove her clothes and shoes to jump in for a dip.
Soon as her eyes hit the water she recalled that dreaded night. It flashed inside her head, the argument, the pain in her stomach, and the last face she saw before falling into the pool. She grabbed onto the handrail, catching herself from falling, but it wasn't that that saved her. Haruka felt a pair of arms holding onto her, turning slowly and finding the person.
"Yui..." Haruka mumbled, grabbing onto her and wrapping her arms around her. "You're here." She ran her hands through her hair and down her face, "you're here." She repeated. Slowly she began to lean closer to her, their lips grazing against one another. "I've missed you..." Haruka whispered just before planting a kiss.
