Well… I’m so sorry to be late… I hope you enjoy this, guys…
Clueless Sat-Nite
Part 7
Jun walked towards Sae and Mayu who were chatting along. He could hear the chit-chat of the two as they were loud enough even though they were in the middle of the other students’ noisiness. Jun suddenly stopped as he heard Mayu’s laugh. He frowned to see Mayu’s expression, being so cheerful at Sae’s joke. Irritation had set its place in Jun’s mind.
Seriously? What’s so funny about that lame joke? I can make a much better joke than that.
Jun was close enough to the two and was about to clear his throat but was halted when Mayu turned and caught his figure.
“Ah. Hey, Jun!”
Jun put on a small smile and waved back to the waving Mayu. Jun was standing right in front of them now and realized that Mayu’s smile was brighter than before. Somehow, that smile of Mayu plus her warm gaze made Jun felt at ease.
Is she so happy to see… me?Jun smiled back at Mayu as now with the same amount of warmness and it didn’t go unnoticed by Sae. His expression turned into a scowl as he felt like he’s an unwanted third party. He turned and faced his locker, unlocked it, opened it, and slammed it hard.
BANG!!He turned back to them and found them glaring at him.
“What the… Sae??!!”
“Sorry, it was stuck just now. Needs a little force.”
Mayu rolled her eyes. “It was fine earlier.”
“ ‘Earlier’ is the past. Let’s just talk about the present, and at the present, I AM HERE as well.”
“So?”
“Talk to me, guys.”
“I don’t know that you like to talk to us, Sae.”
“Oh, come on, Mayu. We were having a nice chat before,” answered Sae with pleading eyes to Mayu.
“ ‘Before’ is the past, let’s just focus with the present.” Jun who was being silent all that time finally spoke up. His eyes turned cold to Sae, as cold
as his voice. “Sorry for interrupting your NICE CHAT. But I have some business too.”
Sae and Mayu were taken aback at the sudden change of atmosphere Jun created just now. Mayu decided to keep silent while Sae thinking otherwise. “Ok. Before you took Mayu with you just let me ask you first.”
“Who says I’m going to take Mayu? I’m here to talk to you, Sae.”
Sae was a bit dumbfounded that Jun literally wanted to talk to him again. He’s wondering whether this would turn out good or bad.
“Well, then, I’ll just go to the library to return this book and letting you having some guys-talk,” sighed Mayu as she stepped out closer to Jun and
tiptoed so that she could whisper in Jun’s ear. “Just promise me you won’t punch him again, Matsui-san.”
Jun smirked at Mayu’s words. “Can’t promise it, Watanabe-san.”
Mayu chuckled at Jun’s response. “What a shame then. Later, boys.”
Jun’s eyes followed Mayu’s figure and once she disappeared, his eyes were pointed back to Sae’s.
“What’s with all the flirting, Sae?”
Sae furrowed, “What do you mean?”
“You’re seducing Mayu.”
“Seducing? I don’t get it.”
Jun sighed at Sae’s answer. “Do not act like a fool, Sae. Ne, tell me. You like Mayu, right?”
Jun’s remark made Sae felt slight uneasy. He turned his glance to the floor as answering, “Maybe.”
Jun’s eyes widened and irritation started to crawl back to his mind. “Don’t you know what Mayu is for me?”
Sae lifted his head slowly and stared back at Jun. “What is she for you?”
“Don’t play with her.”
“I’m not playing with anyone, Jun. Aren’t you the one who’s playing around? Beside, what’s so wrong with me liking Mayu?” Sae shrugged his
shoulder and was about to say more when he noticed Jun’s clenching fist. He looked back to learn Jun’s face. “Don’t tell me you are… jealous?”
“I am.”
Sae stunned at Jun’s stern voice. It made Sae bewildered and disabled to respond properly. “But, she’s not the one you… Heh? The one you love is... What?"
“You’ve been acting like you want to snatch Mayu from me.”
Once again, Jun’s words made Sae frowned at Jun. “Snatch Mayu from you? I don’t catch it, Jun.” Sae shook his head, staring at Jun who’s being silent. Sae tried to learn everything from Jun’s eyes and then realization struck him. “Wait. You really like Mayu?”
“I do! That’s why, stay away from her.” Jun threw a glare at Sae before took a leave.
Sae was left dumbfounded. He really had no idea what to do for now. He never expected that Jun would like Mayu. Is Jun’s heart already changed?
That made Sae being occupied with his thought, and little did he know that someone was standing behind the wall, and heard everything.

Jun decided to peek first before got into the library to see whether Mayu’s still there or not. His eyes roamed around the room and caught nobody except the librarian.
Should I get in? I don’t like books lately.
Jun was about to get in when he felt someone tapped his shoulder out of sudden.“Holy crap!” Jun flinched and turned to see who has startled her. “What the… Rena?” Jun widened his eyes at Rena’s figure which was tilting her head and staring at Jun in confusion.
“What are you doing, Jun?”
Jun blinked his eyes and tried to calm his heart as his eyes avoiding Rena’s. He cleared his throat before answering, “I’m looking for someone.”
“Is it Mayu?”
Jun stole a glance at Rena and found her staring at him. He shifted a bit and nodded his head slowly.
“Just get in, then.”
“I was about to before you startled me.”
“Well, I’m sorry. I didn’t do it on purpose.” Rena shrugged. “It’s just… You were blocking my way.”
Jun tried to ignore the coldness in Rena’s voice. Yes. Somehow, Rena’s being cold to him.
No wonder. I’m a badass in her eyes now, aren’t I?
Jun sighed heavily at the reality. “Sorry.” Mumbled Jun and took a step aside to let Rena pass.
Rena sighed and walked into the library but stopped when Jun spoke.
“You read all your manga?”
Rena frowned to hear such a question from Jun. “Why are you talking about manga out of sudden?”
Jun shrugged his shoulders. “Just curious.”
Silence engulfed them. Rena tried to catch what Jun meant with his words but she’s so clueless about it. She gave up on the topic of manga and saying sorry instead.
“Look. I’m sorry, Jun.”
Jun lifted up his head. “For?”
Rena shook her head a little. “Just sorry. I’m just confused.”
“Your confusion makes me confused as well, Rena.”
“I realized that I’m clueless about many things.”
Jun landed his sight at Rena who’s now staring at the ground. “Like what?”
“Like… the reason of your action.”
“Such as?”
“The reason for hitting Sae.”
Jun rolled his eyes and heaved a sigh. “You’re bringing this up again?”
“But we never talked about this before,” retorted Rena. “I need to know the reason, Jun.”
“It’s our business. Just leave it to us.”
“Have you apologized?”
Jun kept silent and stared at the ground, avoiding Rena’s eyes. The awkward atmosphere was surrounding them till one’s voice broke the silence apart.
“Jun!”
Jun turned to the voice and saw Mayu running towards him. She stopped in front of him and panted heavily. “I’ve been searching for you,” said
Mayu as trying to control her breath.
“Calm down first, Mayu. Why are you searching me? Are you ok?” said Jun with worry. He rubbed Mayu’s back to make Mayu relax.
As her breath started to be normal again, she said, “I just want…” She stopped as her eyes caught Rena’s figure standing in front of the door
staring at them two. Realizing Rena’s stare at the moment, Mayu straighten her back to stand properly, and realized that Jun’s hand was still on her back. She slapped it.
“Ouch. What’s that for?” Jun hissed in pain.
“Hey, Rena-chan.” Mayu waved at Rena, ignoring Jun as if nothing happened.
Rena who was staring at them just now was taken aback to see Mayu waving at her and smiled. “Hey, Mayu-chan.”
Mayu realized that at the moment, there’s no one around except the three of them.
“What were you two doing just now in this lonely corridor?”
Both Matsui frowned at Mayu.
“You were doing something, right?”
Rena blushed and so did Jun. “Wh-What are you talking about, Mayu?” Jun retorted back.
“Just be honest….” Smirked Mayu.
“We really didn’t do anything, Mayu-chan.” Rena spoke up.
“True. Ehm. Anyway, why are you running like crazy?”
Mayu grinned sheepishly. “Yeah… Things happened.”
“Things?”
“Forget it. I was just gonna give you this.” Mayu offered a box of bento to Jun.
“Ah… thank you... You really don’t need to make me one.”
“I promised, right? It’s a present from me that you kept promise as well.” Said Mayu with a wink. “Alright. Jaa..”
“Wait!” Jun held Mayu’s hand to stop her. “Where are you going?”
“To have lunch at the cafeteria, of course.”
“You’re not going to eat with me? Let’s eat on the rooftop.”
“Why should I?”
Jun face palmed at Mayu’s response. “Why not? You already brought me this, by the way.”
“FYI, I promised to bring you bento, not to eat with you.”
“Well, why not? We’re friends.”
“Yeah. But you’re not my only friend. I need to mingle with the other too. I won’t have any friends if you keep doing this to me.”
“Why not? I’m not enough for you?”
Mayu threw Jun a glare and Jun gave her a weird look.
“It’s a good thing that you two are getting well.”
Mayu and Jun turned to Rena who’s smiling. Mayu sighed and stole a glance at Rena before answering, “Yeah… Thanks to you, Rena-chan.”
“Yeah… That’s why we’re going to eat together on the rooftop, right, Mayuyu?”
“I can’t Jun. I have a promise with someone else already.”
Jun pouted at Mayu. “With…?”
“Sae.”
Jun’s cheerful attitude lost and his facial expression darkened. “No. You can’t.”
Mayu frowned. “Why not?”
“JUST NO.”
Both girls are surprised at Jun’s sudden cold voice. Jun’s serious face made Mayu slightly taken aback. “Jun… Don’t tell me you’re still angry with
him. You apologized, right?”
“I did. I promised to you.”
Jun’s words hit Rena.
Ah… he apologized.“Then why can’t I eat with him?” Protested Mayu.
“Just NO.” Jun dragged Mayu.
“Wait, Jun. Let me go.”
“No way.”
Mayu tried to release herself but failed. “Alright. I’ll go with you. Hands off.”
Jun released Mayu and smiled. “Good girl.”
Mayu sighed at Jun’s behavior. “Then, let’s ask Rena-chan to come with us too.”
Jun widened his eyes. “Why?”
Mayu smacked Jun’s head and whispered, “Don’t be rude. Jeez…” She cleared her throat and continued, “Why not? We’re friends.”
Jun got silent.
Realized that she’s being dragged in, Rena decided to speak, “Ah, no, Mayu. I’m ok. I’ll just go eat with the others.”
“Why? Just come with us.”
“Thank you, but I’m fine.”
“See? She refused. Let’s go.” Jun started to drag Mayu again and the shorter girl couldn’t do anything.
Rena showed a faint smile to see the two.
It seems like I’m a good matchmaker.

On the rooftop.Jun put his bento-box down after finishing all the foods. He felt so full and satisfied.
“Huaah… I’m having a good lunch. Thanks for the food, Mayu.”
Mayu chuckled to see Jun’s behavior. “It’s not that delicious, though.”
Jun frowned at Mayu who’s leaning on the banister, backing him. “It is delicious, Mayu. Seriously.”
A smile crept on Mayu’s face. “Arigatou~~”
Jun watched Mayu’s back and realized how small it looks, not to mention that Mayu is quite skinny.
The slender figure was now putting her chin on the handrail.
Jun grinned.
She’s so cute…Mayu was puffing her cheeks now. She seemed bothered by something.
Is it because I forbade her to eat with Sae?“Mayu?”
“Hm?” Mayu responded without turning her back.
Jun sighed and stepped closer to her. He wrapped his arms around Mayu’s slender waist tenderly.
“J-Jun?” Mayu stuttered as she’s surprised from Jun’s action.
“Don’t ignore me.”
“I don’t.”
“Yes, you do.”
Mayu sighed. “Ok, I won’t. Now let me go.”
Jun didn’t move at all. Mayu tried to escape but Jun’s strong arms won’t let her.
“Just a moment, Mayu. Please.” Jun whispered and all Mayu could do was nodding.
They kept in that position for a while in silence. Somehow, Mayu felt at ease in the silence around them and so did Jun.
Minutes passed and Jun rested his chin on Mayu’s shoulder. “Mayu…”
“Hm?”
“Should we really try again?”
“I…” Mayu gulped before continuing, “I’ve said what I thought. The decision is yours, Jun.”
“But you haven’t told me what you felt.”
Mayu furrowed her eyebrows. “I did.”
Jun shook his head. “No, you haven’t.”
“?”
“You told me your thought about us, but you never told me your true feelings.” Jun let out a heavy breath and it tickled Mayu’s neck. “What do you
feel for me now?”
That question of Jun made Mayu dumbfounded. She wanted to move, hoping that it would ease her mind but being trapped in Jun’s arms made her had no choice but stayed still. “Honestly, I…”
“Just say it, Mayu,” said Jun gently.
Mayu gulped. “I… don’t know anymore, Jun”

“Why are you eating alone, Rena?”
Rena turned and found Sae already sitting next to her. Rena just grinned as she didn’t know what to say. “Hehe.”
“Hehe?” Sae sighed. “Let me accompany you. I feel dumb. My partner deceived me. She broke her promise.”
“Mayu’s with Jun on the rooftop,” answered Rena non-chalantly.
“Ugh. I knew it.” Sae clenched his fist. “Let’s go there.”
“What?!”
Sae’s eyes widened. “Why? What’s wrong with that?”
Rena shook her head. “Just let them, Sae.”
“Rena-chan…”
“Mayu invited me but I refused. So, there’s no point to go there.”
Sae slapped his forehead. “Why did you refuse?”
“Jun wants to be alone with Mayu.”
Sae frowned. “How do you know? He said it?”
“No… But, I just know.”
Sae shook his head. “You’re so helpless, Rena.”
Rena smirked. “I am.”
“….. If you want to stay, then stay. I’m going.” Sae got up and readied to leave.
“You said you’ll be my company.”
That remark of Rena stopped Sae. “….. That’s true.” Sae mumbled and sit back. Lol.
Now he was staring at Rena and watching her munching her bread. “I know bread is delicious. But, can you eat them everytime?”
Rena rolled her eyes. “It’s not like I really eat bread everytime.”
“Yeah, right.” Sae rolled his eyes. “It can’t be helped since it’s your favorite.”
“True. We can’t stop eating our favorite foods. It’s normal and everyone does the same.” Rena chuckled. “Anyway, I remember when I made Jun
his favorite food. His glistening eyes while smiling ear to ear.” Rena chuckled. “He’ll never get tired of pasta.”
Sae sighed looking at Rena who’s chuckling. Sae could sense a hint of bitterness in it. “Rena-chan…”
Rena turned to Sae with a questioning look.
“Just stop it.”
There was a silence after the last remark of Sae before Rena nodded her head weakly.
“….. You’re right.”
Rena munched her bread back while Sae decided to lurk on his cell if only there’s a message from a certain girl. When he found that there’s no any
message, he turned to Rena who’s staring at him as well. They’re staring at each other for seconds before both sighed in unison.
