Chapter 22[At the Bottom of the Ferris wheel]
“Which of you two are going together?”
The man operating the machine asked eyeing the three girls suspiciously. He was sure he had seen them somewhere before.
“Oh it’s fine. We can all go on the same carriage.”
Ai told the man solemnly. After he nodded his head to acknowledge and looked down to tear at the tickets she had handed him, Ai turned around to the two standing behind and shooed them off towards the awaiting carriage.
While Risa and Reina were seated down together on one side of the glass carriage waiting for Ai to join them, Gaki decided to watch Ai intently through the glass walls.
“What do you think she’s up to?”
“Who cares? She said it’ll be worth it.”
And when Ai suddenly flashed Reina’s infamous winking pose at Risa after catching her glaze, the gears in Niigaki’s pretty head started turning in overdrive.
“She’s still talking to the man outside. Something’s
definitely going on here.”
Shrugging her shoulders and giving Risa a ‘whatever’ expression, Reina couldn’t be bothered to join in with Risa’s guessing game. She was more concerned with what followed Ai-chan’s impish look earlier.
The machines roared to life after Ai finally entered and the carriage swayed from side to side as it made its climb up the 27th stories it was said to reach.
The view from the carriage was breath-taking, nevertheless the ride was in silence until almost 25 stories up when Ai suddenly unzipped her suede knee-high boots.
“What are you
doing?”
Risa exclaimed when she saw Ai removing her outer jacket too.
“We’ve got 20 minutes before the wheel starts up again.”
That was all Ai said before the three felt a slight rocking and the carriage they were in whined to a halt right at the top of the wheel.
“Oh I get it! I can’t believe you’re
that slow Gaki-san.”
Reina clapped her hands in delight. She had caught on quickly and started removing her own boots.
“
Gahhhh…. Am I missing something here? You two…”
By now Ai has finished removing most of what she had on. She reached over to where Risa was sitting and pulled at her jacket tugging the girl over to where she was.
“Shut up.”
Risa was cut short by Ai’s tongue smashing into her own mouth and whatever words she had planned to say quickly became muffled sounds.
