As the walked down the sidewalk, hand in hand, Ai turned to Risa, "This day has been so weird."
"I know." Risa replied evenly. She was beginning to get a little exasperated with her friend, as this was the fourth time since they left the building that she had said that.
"How can they think I would go for any of them," Risa absently listened to Ai, not really paying attention, "when I'm so in love with you."
They continued walking as Risa gave a nod to indicate she was listening. It was quiet.
They kept walking.
Ai raised an eyebrow at Risa expectantly.
Finally, Ai's last statement started to sink into the little bean's head.
'I'm so in love with you.'Risa slowed to a stop, staring straight ahead,
'I'm so in love with you.''So in love with you.''In love with you.'
'Love with you.'
'Love. You.'Slowly, Risa's eyes widened and Ai looked at her in concern. She could see the imminent explosion forming ever so slowly in her friend's mind, as the realization of Ai's innocuous little words impacted with the power of a thousand stars into the bean's squishy gray matter. A gasp sounded, and then a second and a third until Risa was just short of hyperventilating.
Then, she short circuited, becoming silent. Ai went to stand in front of her friend to make sure she didn't pass out in the middle of the sidewalk, placing her hands on Risa's shoulders and giving a little shake. That snapped Risa out of her stupor and she detonated.
"
WHAT?!?!?!?! You- You! Youyouyouyouyou!" Risa threw her hands into the air and began to frantically pace. "
You rejected them because you love me!?!?!? You can't love me, we've been best friends for years! You can't fall in love with your best friend, it just doesn't work! You know me too well and I know you too well. I mean, we'd kill each other if we dated! You can't be in love with me!"
Risa spun on her heel into two complete circles before she resumed her pacing, "When did you fall in love with me?! Why?! How?! What?!" Ai tilted her head, unsure whether to be amused or devastated, "You can't just expect the others to not find out! They'll be all over you like white on rice! You're in love with me!??!" Risa grabbed Ai's shoulders and shook her, "What is wrong with you!?!? You can't love me! I'm a girl! I'm your coworker! I'm like your older younger sister! You said so yourself!!" Suddenly she let Ai go and the older girl stumbled back, a little dizzy and with the beginnings of brain trauma.
"MMMM! AHHHH! HAHAHAHAHA!! GAHH!" Risa made wild hand motions, unable to think of more to say. Then she stood still and waved her arms around like she was trying to fly, a gargling noise bubbling forth from inside her chest, "GGARAGARAGHRGHHAHHATA!!!" The disconcerting noise finally tapered off into silence, only to be replace by a high pitch siren, "WEEEOOOEEEEOOOOEEEEOOOOEEEEE!" Amazingly, a car alarm went off next to them, adding to the insanity. The siren suddenly changed into a whooping noise, "WHOOP! WHOOP! WHOOP!"
Ai watched all this with a resigned sort of air, she was used to these reactions, after all. Patience was needed when they were encountered to this degree. Finally, after a long cycle of repeated sounds, Risa fell into silence, panting heavily.

"..."
"...!"
Risa's eyes widened into the sudden kiss and for a moment, Ai thought she might implode. Then, Risa tentatively returned the lip lock.
"Let's just get our ice cream." Risa breathed out when they came up for air. Ai happily complied and they skipped off down the street, hand in hand again.
