The question is, at what point can we stop attributing this to wota compulsion? One or two days on the charts, I would assume it was the usual suspects buying multiple editions, but now I'm starting to wonder if it's not bigger than that.

I still don't get it. Why do we put MM and H!P down every time? I hear the excuse that competition is weak, and that they were lucky. FLOW, M-FLO LOVES BONNIE PINK, BENNIE K, RADWIMP, they are all very popular in Japan. Japanese audiences had two full weeks to decide, listening to the song on the radio, watching TV performances, watching the PV. And still MM sold enough to make #1 three days in a row. Could it possibly be that, God forbid, japanese people LIKES the song?

Well, I really, really hope you are right. But to answer the question, with the way things have been for H!P recently, I think it's natural to be skeptical of something like this (up to a point). I don't think of it as "putting down MM", because I know they can release great songs. Rather I question the willingness of the mainstream to accept them. Let's face it, they don't have a very positive image in Japan right now. If this is the first step towards a resurrection of their popularity, I'm all for it

But we'll see.

No from what I've heard Fracture is right. MM is as uncool in Japan as Britney is in England. This is what I've heard from a lot of people posting from Japan.
They do need to increase their 'coolness' popularity and it looks like this song is definately doing that. If it was only mowotas, wouldn't it be selling at about the same rankings as the previous singles???

I agree, but being not so popular as before, and having a negative image (and that's what I got from Fracture's post) are two different things.
