I'm still very curious as to what the new RPG will, but something has been nagging me.
Depending on what sort of setup it will be, how will each character be portrayed, and will it be conducive to the younger characters.
IMHO, making sure that there's at least character development should be considered essential.
That way it ensures characters won't end up being one dimensional, and can also make for better and more interesting character interaction.
RPGer's would need to be able to quickly adapt, as from each post, characters get developed and the story grows with each post.
Conversations and scenario's between characters are an important point, since in the old RPG they tended to get lost, but that's a direct correlation to this being an online game, and all players involved being all the world.
Different timezones, school and work schedules, and whatever else might pop up.
IMHO, there would need to a structure set up for the RPG, so there can be a flow to it, even though, of course, this is not a linear game, with a set storyline.
Open and free roaming is far better for an RPG.
By structure, I mean guidelines, so conversations and scenarios aren't left hanging for days on end without a resolution, and characters aren't left in limbo while waiting for other's to return and continue.
Players need to be quick and think on their feet, hence my earlier point about adapting to changes quickly.
Now, its true, that some are quicker than others when it comes to posting a response, but as long as an effort is made to keeping a good pace, then things can flow smoother and the RPG can be kept interesting, there by possibly drawing in more active players.
As with the old RPG, a discussion thread is vital for asking questions, and everyone who might not be sure should post there question......no question is stupid, especially if first timers or old hands want to sure about something.
Here's my take, and that is, it should be a "RPG Discussion and Chat Thread", allowing for questions and idle chat among players discussing the RPG and their characters, and whatever scenario's happen to be playing out.
Additionally, if someone doesn't want to ask a question in public, they should be encouraged to pm any other fellow RPGer and ask their question in that manner.
The flow of time in the RPG is an important factor, as is weather conditions.
Depending on where the RPG is set, maybe like Japan in the old RPG, I feel it would be good to adhere to what the current season and weather conditions are for the region.
For instance, if its winter, then the RPG needs to be in that season and climate, with the proper accompanying temperature, and any other expected and unexpected possibilities.
Weather is an important factor and should not be overlooked, as I saw happen all to often in the old RPG.
Well, that's about all I can come up with right now, but please, don't anyone be put off by anything I've posted, this is how I see it and how I would like to see some things come about in the new RPG.
