I started listening thanks to the anime ops-endings... Series like Rurouni Kenshin who have so much bands songs of J-Music... The very first song of J-music I remember right now I first listened.. was Make up! - Pegasus Fantasy, the intro of Saint seiya movies (lucky that they no changed the op of the movies here in Mexico :pen_clap: ) Later, I started to find the bands in the internet to listen the music of them and search for more... and more... and more.... :ONfarofflook:

How did you get into J-Music?

Like most people here, i first got into jpop through anime.  since i was born and raised abroad (USA), it's not likely that i find jpop stuff alot.  But by watching the great anime, i eventually became exposed to jpop and j-related stuff.  When watching an anime and hearing the music, i got hooked and try to find the songs on the net. then it moved on to the artist itself and their works, not just the one attached to anime.  then checking out other artists, even not relating to anime.  and finally to general j-music itself.  U know the trail, don't u?  Due to the "trail" that i not only find jpop, but i explored other j-music genre as well.  and also got into the general j-media, jdorama and movies, as well as the theme song that comes with it.

From J-music, i also got love love the Japanese culture in general.  One of my dream is to visit japan, possibly even lived there for a while.  But not only that, if u gotta know, i'm been i tech lover, intrigued and obessed with technology and electronics. And who would know but that Japan, not only the motherland of anime and manga, but also the country with the most high tech stuff in the entire world. including cars and automobiles, of which i'm also a huge fan of (toyota, nissan, honda, mazda just to name a few).

Other than the modern stuff (by which i mean the techs, cars, anime/manga,etc.) i also became interested in the history and culture or japan itself, like reading stuff on the samurai, shogun and the japanese martial arts, the bushido, the tea ceremony, cherry blossom, etc.  So since japan offers all this, i would naturally be sucked into this culture.

Yes, call me a japanophile if u must, a otaku even.  But it's not uncommon, since the Japanese culture and the J-media had alot of infuences on the world.

But just to be clear, i'm not only interest in j-stuff.  I also like kpop and chinese pop since i've grown up with my family watching chinese movies and shows as well as listening to chinese pop. but that's beside the point.

Oh yah, i forgot to mention my fav artists.  first and foremost, Morning Musume have got to be mention, same as most of the people here, they and the entire Hello! Project have a profound impact on my love of J-stuff.  I first heard of them back in 04 when i saw the love machine pv on the net. then i listen to several of their song like i wish, renai revolution 21, the peace and mr. moonlight.  But for some reason i forgot about them.  then i got sucked into their world again 2 years later (in 2006) on one summer day when i accidently browse through Youtube into the jpop sections.  their addictive u know.  Aside from them, i listen to mostly avex artists like ayumi hamasaki, do as infinity, ELT, etc.  since they're had songs in Inuyasha, the anime with one of the best OST around.  Now, since i love naruto and bleach, I listen to alot of sony artists like Orange Range , YUI, and even the recent single "Baby it's you" by JUNE, a new artist under sony.  in addition, i also like several JE music, Johnny's Entertainment ( yah i admit it, even though i'm a guy), mostly kinki kids and smap, but once in a while V6 ( around the world, part of inuyasha), tokio and several arashi.  But u know, i mainly checked out their shows than actually listen to their music, since they're funny on their show, ex. SMAPXSMAP, Nakai's Utaban, Kinki's Domoto Kyoudai.

Although i mainly listen to anime theme song and H!P songs, I am in no way completely dominated by them (well...maybe Morning Musume, just maybe....), i listen to many other artists too. and am always looking for new stuff.  that's oughta be good for now.........sorry for rambling on, it's just when u find someone with common interests, u tend to talk alot.  hehe...

When i first time listening to L'Arc~en~Ciel - Stay Away & some GLAY song, i began to like their song pretty much but then again after few year when i started to listening to some Eurobeat song, i seem began to fade away from them. Only some J-Pop Music i still liked - Morning musume, Hinoi Team, and HandMC was one of them.  :)

I posted this on another forum so I just copied/pasted it for this thread since it answers this very question.

It all started when I heard "tokyo smiling" on the net as a soundtrack to a short video based on some video game. I immediately had to know who sang that song.. I had never heard such a style like that before. I found out it was by a group called "capsule", and the style was called "Shibuya-kei". I looked further, and discovered some more of their songs. That was it. I bought every album twice. One set for the car, one for home and to share. I could not listen to anything else... for at least a full year, not kidding. It was as if I had discovered some new world I never new existed and it made everything I used to enjoy seem bland and old-hat. Just a phase, right? Not quite. I could talk for days about things I like about capsule but I will move on...

From there, I asked around for advice from the j-pop message boards I began to join, "what else do you think a capsule fan would like?", because I did not know of any other artists and I wanted to discover again. From there, I learned about and now also adore: Perfume, YUKI, ACO, Meg, Nagisa Cosmetic, Supercar, Miki Furukawa, Coltemonikha and some Ayumi Hamasaki. Even some Mini Moni for good measure.

I maintain some stuff on the net dedicated to some of these artists, capsule in particular. I think about j-music all day, surf the net for news on my favorites, and so on. I cannot fully understand Japanese but it makes no difference. Most of my online active website spots are Stage6 and Perfume City, also checking for updates at several other news sites.

I love discovering new things and each discovery leads to another.

Anyway, sorry for the long post.  - silver

I was  a huge Japanese prowrestling and fighting/kickboxing fan in the early 90s and I followed most of the shows. I got engaged to a Japanese in the mid 90s who was into music and she turned me onto Puffy and Matsuda Seiko around 1996... so it slowly progressed from there but in 1999-2000 I just went totally insane.

Ayu's stuff put me over the top in '99.

I first got into it thanks to Ayu's "I am..." album, which is still probably my favourite album of all time. That was in 2002 I do believe, though to be fair I didn't actually listen to much even at that point, the way I actually got fully into it was pretty weird. I was just spending some time browsing through some random guitar tabs on the Internet and I got onto some Japanese stuff, one band that caught my attnetion was Puffy, I had a quick look on eBay and someone was selling 4 albums for £12 so I thought I might as well give 'em a go for that price. That was in 2003/4, not sure which, but ever since then I've got more and more into JMusic. In fact I heard Momosu around the same time and absoloutely hated them...how times have changed.

I agree, LOL, Thats how I first heard J-Music.

But i got hooked after a friend kept sending me youtube videos of morning musume.

And with "Asian Kung-Fu Generation" I kept on watching the Loop & Loop video over and over on my cable on demand feature.

If anyone has the anime network could watch more J-Music videos.
