Checkicco (チェキッ娘)
(also romanized as Chekikko)

Checkicco was an idol group created and produced by Akimoto Yasushi (who also produced Onyanko Club and is now producing AKB48), along with Mizuguchi Masahiro, a producer for Fuji TV who had the idea of creating "an Onyanko Club for the Heisei era (1989-present)". They debuted in 1998 with the single "Dakishimete" (yes, same year Morning Musume officially debuted). Their name comes from the phrase "Check it!", a catchphrase of Shinohara Tomoe.

There were several things about Checkicco that were similar to Onyanko Club. Like Onyanko Club, Checkicco also hosted their own TV show called "DAIBAtteki!". Each member also had their own number (ID) just like Onyanko Club's members did.

They released 6 singles, 2 albums (counting their best-of album), some IVs, a photobook, and a Dreamcast game, and had several subgroups such as chee's, METAMO, and M@M. Ultimately though, they were not very successful (their highest selling single, Hajimari, only sold 32,450 copies with its highest rank as 40 - this was back in the days when best-selling CDs were ones that sold over 100,000 copies) and broke up on November 3, 1999. At the Girl Pop Factory 2004 event, however, the members performed together as Checkicco again for only one day.

Anime theme singer Shimokawa Mikuni and gravure idol Kumakiri Asami are some well-known former Checkicco members.

Obscure pop acts are always welcome.

Though I'm generally not a big fan of other idol groups other than H!P ones(with a few exceptions), and lately not really an H!P fan either. So you can see why most of my mentions here are rock/punk bands.

Though I really like Chee's. Have any music by them?

Lol. Thanks for that I guess. xD

The reason I changed it was because someone hotlinked it in someone else's last.fm shoutbox. Shameless bastards! Just forgot about the links here, hah.

Kamomekamome - Luger Seagull (2nd album) (2007.11.07)

Some of the more observant may have noticed that track #9 - 若返る薬 - was faulty, the zip is now fixed, and if you only need track #9, here.

Random discoveries <3 Don't know anything about her, but looks like despite being signed with Columbia, Ayako hasn't released any physical CDs yet, only downloads... so I don't even have any files to share :(
