Man, AWESOME lineup on that festival. It sucks that they didn't use full songs for the sampler though, oh well.

Discharming man, accidents in too large field and uhnellys sound pretty cool. And tiala are pretty great. I have their ep. Is good music.

thanks for those double, I'm not much on grind and "screamo" as I was a few years ago, but the comp sounds interesting enough. And phewwhoo sounds pretty nice

Just got back from this.

Quote
「Creative」~残響record Compilation release EVENT~ 9/13

miimi / texas pandaa
3nd / hologram / apnea
ルルル / naan

ルルル was the opening act and 3nd closing. 3nd played like 3 new songs, so I'm smelling some new material in the near future. Oh, and Yamamoto is fucking badass. He dropped his glasses three times and was squinting for them after every song.

Hell yeah!!
Thanks Stryfe.

Sampler from Indies Issue #40.

http://www.mediafire.com/?urnum3ocmie

Lot of the same bands from the Yamagata sampler and some dope tracks by Clisms and group_inou.
Check out the tracklist http://blog.livedoor.jp/indies_issue/

This issue has an article entitled: New generation of Alternative Rock.
Basically their opinions on the new pioneers of indie music.
Bands discussed include:
about tess
accidents in too large field
bed
BOGULTA
CLISMS
DEEPSLAUTER
デラシネ
4 bonjour's parties
FLUID
group_inou
henrytennis
HOSOME
LLama
lostage
マヒルノ
miscorner/c+lloqtortion
mothercoat
nenem
にせんえんもんだい
Ogre You Asshole
Qomolangma Tomato
SHIFT
soutaseiriron
the telephones
TIALA
Tokumaru Shugo
uhnellys
YOLZ in the SKY
YOMOYA

I'm not sure i agree with all their choices but almost each band listed brings something innovative or unorthodox to the table.
My faves from this list would be Qomo, the telephones and group_inou.  CLISMS and uhnellys are tight and I'm really starting to like bed and mahiruno from the samplers I've listened to.  I'm not sure why YOMOYA's on this list. I've seen them live and they're decent but rather generic. Their schtick is that they bring this massive string of lights that they run across stage and wrap around themselves while playing.  Tokumaru Shogo's a mad scientist with his endless array of instuments.  Guy's a genius and i love some of his songs but not someone I listen to on a regular basis. I guess about tess is repping the post-rock side of things. Not sure if they're the frontrunners of up&coming inst bands but they are pretty damn good.

A bunch of these bands are on the sampler so have a listen.

fuck yeah new sgt!

And I'll check out that comp.

Thanks for the stuff

I need to see if they get that magazine at any local japanese book stores. I'm very doubtful any of them would carry it though. :/

sgt. - Stylus Fantasticus

Sampler from Indies Issue #40.

Yayyyyy new stuff.

That's a pretty cool list of bands in that thar magazine right there. Maybe 7 or 8 of 'em that I haven't even heard of.
Hilariously enough the bands I dislike the most are the same ones that Double likes the most.

Well in my opinion I don't see much merit in the "music" (and in this case I use the term loosely) by bands such as tiala, deepslauter, accidents in too large field, デラシネ, Shift, FLUID or yolz in the sky.
Qomo, the telephones and group_inou are rehashing or blending genres from the past but at least they do so with some semblence of melody and skill.
Less Than TV (the label to which all these acts are signed, save for FLUID) is just biting the Gravity Records sound circa 93-95.
I actually listened to bands like Klickatat Ikatowi, Angel Hair, Antioch Arrow, Swing Kids back in the day but that phase lasted no more than a couple weeks before it got tiring and headache/nausea-inducing.

IMHO there's no need to resurrect this brand of HC in the J-indie scene.
I support musicians that are creative, unconventional and willing to take risks but the tunes churned out by Less Than TV bands are a cacophonic turdfest that will be of no relevance save for using their CDs as paperweights and coasters.
It might be fun to mosh to these bands at a concert but there's very little to differentiate one noisecore band from another.

edit: actually i shouldn't have lumped Klickatat in there. they were pretty badass, esp Mario on drums.

The bands I am really excited about in that list are clisms, デラシネ, tiala, accidents in too large field, Tokumaru Shugo, bed, and にせんえんもんだい.
Though the only ones I have heard any actual albums by are TS, tiala, and にせんえんもんだい. (Those are all great btw)

Most of those hardcore bands you listed seem pretty original and/or skillful if you ask me. Especially tiala, AITLF, デラシネ, and Yolz in the sky.

I should note that I think Qomolangma tomato are pretty good. I just don't like them all that much. And I should probably give Group_inou and the telephones another chance considering I just gave them cursory listens before.

Out of curiosity what did the magazine say about any of those bands? Was it just a generic "these bands are good" kind of thing or was there more to it?

Despite being 100% Japanese my kanji reading skills are rudimentary having been born and raised in Canada.
The magazine gives short blurbs describing each band's particular style of music and the feelings/reactions evoked on listening to them.
All the bands on Less Than TV more or less got a description of "heavy guitars, violent rhythms but danceable post-punk"
They commented that Tiala is not only influenced by US/UK music but incorporate aspects from various styles/scenes across Asia including Singapore and Malaysia.
I scanned the article so you guys can read it.  I'm too lazy to translate it though cuz that would necessitate cracking open my J-E dictionary and looking up 75% of the kanji.

I was a bit harsh in my criticism of the Less Than TV bands.  This style may be new and refreshing to the folks in Japan but to me it's a bit played out wrt the US hardcore/punk I grew up listening to.
But I am being hypocritical b/c although I don't like listening to these bands' studio works, they may be amazing to experience LIVE.  And  that's the way it is with Qomo and group_inou.  I wasn't impressed by what I heard and saw (Youtube) of QT on first exposure and sort of wrote them off.  A few months later I ended up going to watch them perform a "vs LIVE" with Mass of the Fermenting Dregs.  I went to the show primarily to see Mass Dre but ended up a much bigger fan of QT at the end  of the night.

group_inou is a band whose sound I hated at first.  In terms of hip hop my fave emcess would include lyricists such as Slug, Sage Francis, Ras Kass, C Rayz Walz.   CP (inou's MC) has a really abrupt, robotic flow which is pure shite if you want to go by US hip hop standards.  In terms of beats, DJ/producers like Primo, J-Zone, Pete Rock and Nujabes get the nodfactor plus.  I wasn't used to having chiptune/techno used as the primary instrumental for a hip hop track. Furthermore, Imai (inou's DJ) uses a mixer alone without turntables.
But then I saw this clip on Youtube

and the manic energy with which they perform and work the crowd got me interested in them.

If you keep an open mind and refrain from comparing them to conventional US hip hop then you might begin to appreciate their unorthodox brand of music.  Imai is a freaking genius on the mixing board and cp is more punk than Mariko Goto on acid when he gets up on stage.  I got a chance to see them a couple weeks ago and they put on a crazy, energetic show which gets even the most timid wallflowers dancing.
I'll upload "one camera no cuy" once mediafire is up & running again.

OK, so I just listened to a some Group_Inou and the telephones and while I still can't really get into G_I yet (it's the chiptune stuff that's turning me off I think) it turns out that I was confusing the 'phones and fox loco phantom with each other. Fox Loco Phantom = not good. The Telephones = not bad.

Thanks for the scans. I can read less japanese than you can though

group_inou seem pretty awesome, though CP IS pretty weak as an MC. I'd love to go to one of their live shows, some of the funnest music I've heard recently.

Here's an audio rip of group inou's DVD "one camera no cut" which I found on slsk a while back.
The actual video footage is probably floating around somewhere (?KMC).

http://www.mediafire.com/?jf7hmgtd1l3

"one camera no cut" is a much better representation of their sound as opposed to their studio album "Fan"
i have uri gagarn's album "no. 1 oracle" but it's garage-punk that's somewhat bland in comparison to group_inou.
I can upload and send it to anyone who wants it though.

Since some people have expressed interest in uhnellys, here's their album Mawaru:
