Winning Time: Reggie Miller vs. the New York Knicks
« Reply #2683 on: March 18, 2010, 02:00:43 AM »
Any NBA fans check out the ESPN documentary this week?  "Winning Time: Reggie Miller vs. the New York Knicks" premiered this past Sunday and I gotta say it's quite a hoot (and I hardly follow the NBA).  If you dig 90s ball you might like it (repeating almost all week).  Great interview subjects, including Miller, sister Cheryl, Patrick Ewing, John Starks and even Spike Lee.

Bill Simmons labeled Miller a "marginal All-Star" and scoffed his Hall-of-Fame chances.  Dunno about that but I now understand why he has that gig with TNT.  The guy is hilarious and very engaging.

I heard about it! And I watched that shit live, the most epic final seconds ever. John Starks you fool! Flipped thru a bit of the video, shit that got EVERYONE. I remember Spike Lee getting into Reggie's head too. He's just a smart old school type player, one of the most clutch 3 point shooters ever.

Here's a LQ version for those not in the States

btw. Bill Simmons is full of shit.

Artest, Bryant lauded

Their peers have spoken.

Ron Artest and Kobe Bryant were named the toughest defenders in the NBA in a poll of 173 players conducted by Sports Illustrated. Artest earned 42 percent of the votes and Bryant received 13 percent in results announced Tuesday.

Dwight Howard of the Magic was third with 12 percent of the votes, Kevin Garnett of the Celtics was fourth with 6 percent and Shane Battier of the Rockets was fifth with 4 percent.

The results are included in the latest issue, which hits newsstands and mailboxes today. The poll was conducted several months ago.

Los Lakers!! Way to go Bench Mob, just letting the Wiz hang around lol. Artest getting a rare 7 for 10 shooting nite for 16 pts!

At least Bynum's gonna be back for the playoffs. Nothing TOO serious. And congrats Lamar Odom and Shannon Brown!!
Odom and Brown annihilated the record (10) by making 25 free throws in a minute. Not bad.

Kobe moving up the scoring ranks.

11. John Havlicek – 26,395
12. Alex English – 25,613
13. Kobe Bryant – 25,612

COME ON PLAYOFFS!!!

Hawks and OKC are coming hard and strong.

I liked Pau going baseline for the reverse layup.  The first half was nuts for the D, but the rest of the game was just blah.

Ilgauskas signs with Cavaliers

Associated Press

CLEVELAND -- Zydrunas Ilgauskas' agent called Cavaliers general manager Danny Ferry at 8:30 a.m. Monday, the first day Ilgauskas was eligible to re-sign with Cleveland.

It took a little longer than expected -- the deal wasn't announced until Tuesday afternoon -- but Ilgauskas is back with the only team he has ever known.

"If I would've left and the team won a championship without me," he said, "I don't think I could've ever forgave myself."

Ilgauskas signed to play for the rest of the season in Cleveland and traveled with the Cavaliers to New Orleans on Tuesday. Coach Mike Brown said he will likely play against the Hornets on Wednesday.

To make room on the roster, Cleveland waived second-year forward Darnell Jackson.

"Z has been a good friend of mine and others in the organization," said Ferry, who played with Ilgauskas in Cleveland. "We're excited to have the Ilgauskas family back in Cleveland. This is where they really wanted to be."

It's been a difficult season for the veteran center. He became a bench player for the first time in his career when the team acquired Shaquille O'Neal last summer, and then he was upset when Brown didn't play him the night he was expected to break the franchise's record for most games played.

When Ferry traded his former teammate to the Washington Wizards in the three-team deal that brought Antawn Jamison and Sebastian Telfair to Cleveland, Ilgauskas had to take a few days to calm his emotions and collect his thoughts.

"It's been a strange season," he said.

Washington subsequently bought out his contract before he ever played a game, making him a free agent. While multiple teams around the league showed great interest, Ilgauskas ultimately chose to return to Cleveland. He had to wait 30 days under league rules but passed the time by working out on his own and getting rare time off with his family.

He returns averaging 7.5 points and 5.3 rebounds this season. Brown hasn't decided whether he'll continue to come off the bench or start while O'Neal is out for the remainder of the regular season after thumb surgery.

Cleveland used its biannual exception to sign him for the rest of the season. The 34-year-old has previously hinted at retirement but has since changed his mind. His agent, Herb Rudoy, said he plans to become an unrestricted free agent this summer.

"With a guy that is his size and with his skill level and ability to shoot the ball, he has a lot of years left in him," Brown said. "We only bring positives to the organization and to our team with him in the mix."

Ferry warned Ilgauskas before the season he could be traded because of his expiring contract. That didn't make the emotion of the moment any easier. Ferry said his e-mail and voicemail filled up with messages from fans upset that he traded one of the most popular players in franchise history.

It was those same people who brought Ilgauskas back. He said he was overwhelmed by the support of Cavaliers fans who begged him to return once he became available.

"The way people in Cleveland and the fans have reacted has really humbled me in a positive way," Ilgauskas said. "Their support has been unbelievable. I'm from Lithuania and I'll always be proud of it, but this has become a home to me."

 Complete bullshit, I'd love to see Dwight Howard fuck up their frontcourt.

SHIT!! Complete lockdown on defense in the 2nd half, what a fucking great game...Gasol coming up with key blocks on Duncan!

Ron Artest the MVP like he had a chip on his shoulder (again) for some idiot LA Times article.

LOL Man, all those 3's by Shannon Brown and Lamar sealed the deal. Then give it to Kobe to put em to sleep!

Great way to start off the roadtrip!

Man L, RJ doesn't look right with the Spurs, like he's lost a step or smth. Artet was just picking his asshole day and night.

Michael Jordan on Kobe: “There are very few Kobe Bryants out there. LeBron hasn’t won yet. Dwyane Wade had Shaq [O'Neal] sitting next to him and he had Pat Riley coaching him. So there are a lot of other components that come into play to say if you’re an NBA championship team,” Jordan said. “Detroit did a great job in winning and they had no one superstar on that team. Boston won with three All-Stars. The Lakers won with two All-Stars.

Jackson: No decision on future yet

By Arash Markazi
ESPNLosAngeles.com

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Phil Jackson said he hasn't made a decision about his future despite a report earlier he was hoping to return as the Lakers coach next season.

"No decision and no leaning at all. I'm leaning against the wall and that's about it," said Jackson leaning against the brick wall outside the visiting locker room at the Ford Center before the Lakers played the Thunder on Friday.

Jackson said he didn't foresee health or financial concerns that would prevent him from coming back. But he added his return could hinge on how the Lakers perform in the playoffs.

When asked if he wanted to return as the coach next season he said, "Yeah. If we win it's almost imperative to give it another shot but there are a lot of ifs in there. Winning is a really big if. There are four playoffs you have to get through before you can say that we won and we have a chance to do something special and unique again. That's a long shot.

"I think how we make it through the year has a lot to do with it. [Lakers owner] Dr. [Jerry] Buss said that he put some things on the line by re-signing Lamar [Odom] so it's financial. This team has never lost money since he took over the team so that's a big part of it. I pushed him to sign Lamar and we all said we have to have this guy back even if it's going to put this team in jeopardy financially. At a time when it's tough in this league he took the step."

Buss told ESPNLosAngeles.com this week he hasn't discussed an extension because he doesn't think Jackson wants to talk about it during the season.

"If I were to go to him right now and said, 'Phil, will you coach next year?' He would say let's wait until the end of the year and see how I feel," Buss said. "So, I don't think it causes any tension, I just have to wait until then before a discussion begins [on a new contract]."

Jackson agreed with Buss, saying, "I think it's the best way to approach it right now. Healthwise I'm fine. I serve at the behest of the Buss family and Jeannie [Buss, Jerry's daughter and Jackson's girlfriend] I serve all the time, but I work with Dr. Buss closely in serving this basketball club as a coach."

Jackson, however, reiterated a contract dispute would not prevent him from returning, even if Buss asked Jackson to take a pay cut next season.

"Pay cuts come in all different forms," said Jackson, joking he might cash out his 401k. "There are some ways around that. I think we could find a way to make that work."

Jackson said there wouldn't be much drama about his coaching future after the season. He plans on making a decision shortly after his routine end-of-season physical.

"I'll do a whole physical checkup at the end of the year and then I'll make a decision," Jackson said. "It's pretty easy. It'll go pretty quick. It'll be a two-day thing and then I'll be back and we'll see what happens."

just now, Kobe Bryant signed a 3 year contract extension. Similar to Pau Gasol.

Quote
Kobe Bryant has signed a three-year contract extension with the Los Angeles Lakers, the team announced Friday.

The deal will keep Bryant a Laker through the 2013-14 season.

"We are extremely pleased that we were able to reach an agreement and come to terms on the extension at this time," said Lakers general manger Mitch Kupchak. "Kobe has been a cornerstone of the Lakers for well over a decade, helping to lead us to four NBA championships and in the process developing into one of the greatest players in basketball history."

Bryant has spent his entire 14-year career in a Lakers uniform. The extension coincides with the length of the deals signed by teammates Pau Gasol and Ron Artest.

Bryant is averaging 27.2 points, 5.3 rebounds and 5.1 assists this season. He's helped the Lakers win four NBA titles, including last season.

Earlier this season Bryant moved past Jerry West to become the Lakers all-time leading scorer and currently ranks 12th on the NBA's all-time scoring list.

Hopefully Luke is back in the line up!

And just in time. Ron Artest gets  a reality show:  The bad boy NBA player is to develop and produce the “They Call Me Crazy” show with E1 Entertainment and Tijuana Entertainment. The series will document the ups and downs of Artest’s life, allowing him to “make amends for past transgressions,” according to E1 Entertainment.." XD
