M. Night Shyamalan Defends His Avatar: The Last Airbender Adaptation:
http://www.ign.com/articles/2015/05/22/m-night-shyamalan-defends-his-avatar-the-last-airbender-adaptationWhat do I think.
1. Harry Potter was also made for a core audience. cool people. so they made a cool movie. making a bad movie and blaming it on age ratings? dood...
2. Making it mainly for his 10yo target audience so they could watch it. I respect that. That's if the target audience magically didn't get older, since his movie came out 5 years after the show.
3. So it was his way or the Transformers way... What?!
I think kids would've liked an animated movie better (but I guess Hollywood doesn't have the balls for that, unless its called Frozen).
I watched the Avatar movie before the cartoon. The movie was nothing to remember. Grey, stupid and boring. It was a failure. I saw the Avatar cartoon only this year, and was totally absorbed into the characters and the colorful world it was building. It was like making you learn and believe in a whole new tradition and way of life. props for that.
Honestly, there is no fun in this crappy movie aimed for imaginary 10yo kids. It even fails in the most basic thing for kids movies, it has no color and no fun.
Don't think comparing it to other movies will help.
4. So you made this, and didn't do a robot movie focused on Megan Fox. Cos every Transformers fan wants to see Megan Fox.
One thing Avatar did do right was stay closer to source material. compared to Transformers at least. Transformers movies has transforming robots, fullstop. Out of tens and tens of years of evolving source material from comics and cartoons in america and japan, that's all they took. Junk robots that turn into car commercials. Want to see a Transformers story made for fans, play the Transformers - War for Cybertron games.
Transformers cashed in money. Avatar flopped. Transformers isn't considered successful because it was made for Transformers fans. It was made to change the taste of Transformers fans that have grown up, and it worked. People liked it.
I pretty much hate the Transformers movies from being so distant from the Transformers cartoon I knew as a kid. But watching it as its own entity, it still has some entertainment value. The Avatar movie does not.
And Megan Fox. Who the F cares. No. Even having Megan Fox strip repeatedly in your Avatar movie probably wouldn't have helped. Again, stop picking on other movies. Just stop being a baby, say your movie sucked, and get on with it.
