Actor Boy | ACT 2
I woke up with a painful backache, feeling very sluggish. That was not the good night sleep I was looking forward to. I was probably sleeping in a wrong position. I rolled myself to the edge of the bunk beds and peered below. Tomoya wasn’t there and Mayuya wasn’t in his own bed either. Hmm …
Anyway, that day would be marked as the first day of school. I was not excited about it at all but I got to meet Kashiwagi-san! She replied to me last night that she had done writing the music score and she would play it after school. I was like the happy man’s without his shirt! I checked the messages again to make sure I wasn’t hallucinating.
“Atsu, are you up already?” The voice filled the room. Tomoya was combing his hair and applied some hair gel on it. He was already in his uniform and so did Mayuya who was tying his necktie. And there was me… who was still in bed.
“Eh, how long are you going to stay in bed? Get up and wash.” Tomoya instructed me but I suddenly remembered something.
“By the way, did anyone sent my uniform here while I was gone last night?” I asked.
“No?” The two said in unison.
“Ah, Principal Takahashi is unbelievable.” I smacked my forehead then trudged down the bunk beds and made my way to the bathroom.
“I guess you better do him a favor and get him his uniform. I have to go to the infirmary to get medical records.” I heard Mayuya said to Tomoya before I entered the bathroom.
“Atsushi. I’m going to the Principal’s office and ask him about your uniform. You best be going to the dining hall and have breakfast after you wash up. And then go back here to get your uniform.” Tomoya assured outside the bathroom.

I walked out of our room and received a few greets from my dorm mates. Some were asking about my uniform. Well, I had to say the truth. After excusing myself, I descended to the connecting door that leads to the dining hall. The dining hall wasn’t fully occupied yet as I saw the buffet was queued up by a few students. And I saw a few cliques of students here and there. I hummed to myself and walked to the buffet then took a plate. I should eat a lot, I thought. Oh man! I thought I saw caramel pudding at the end of the buffet!
“Maeda-kun! Ohayo.” A sweet voice called out to me. A slender, smooth arm reached out to the food scoop. I turned around to its owner, it was Kashiwagi-san.
“Ah. It’s you, Kashiwagi-san. Ya’ know, you could’ve just dropped the formalities with me.” I said as I scooped some rice onto my plate.
“Not unless you drop it first.” She said as she playfully scooped an oily-looking chicken onto my plate. Eew.
“Nice.” I said, flaring my nostrils at its disgust. She giggled at my expression and continued to scoop some gravy and pour them onto my plate. Great, gravy. Ugh...
After we picked our breakfast, we decided to have our breakfast together.
“Itadakimasu!” We said in unison and started to eat.
I ought to switch my gears to start a conversation with her, “Say, can I call you Yukirin?” I asked.
“Sure, Atsushi.”
“You’re fine with it?”
“Yes.” She replied and flashed a graceful smile. I felt butterflies fluttering inside my stomach. Then I gave her a sheepish smile.
“Guys like girls calling their names, huh?” She teased and chuckled then continued eating.
“Eh?! Haha umm…” My face reddened then I turned away, avoiding to meet with her eyesight.
Tap, tap, and tap. I felt taps on my shoulder. A chair next to me was pulled behind. It was Kojima Haruto.
“Haruto! Long time no see! When did you get back here?”
“Last night. As soon as I arrived, I went to sleep. Hell of a day yesterday.” Haruto explained and set his food on the table then picked up the chopsticks. I noticed that someone was missing.
“Mezurashi ne… where’s Mom?”
“Ah, Yuko? She went to see the Principal. She had her breakfast already.”
I ate a bit, ignoring the oily chicken of course… eew. Sigh. Why did Yukirin scooped this up for me? Setting my fork and spoon down, I ignored my food for a while and pondered at a distance as I saw two familiar people talking to each other near the buffet. Wasn’t that Yuko? And next to her was … THAT BLONDE-HAIRED GUY!
