Heath Ledger to Play Joker in Next 'Batman'
Aug 1, 2:56 PM EST
The Associated Press
Heath Ledger will play The Joker in the sequel to last year's "Batman Begins," Warner Bros. studio announced. "The Dark Knight" is set to begin production next year.
Christian Bale again will play Batman. Christopher Nolan will repeat as director.
Ledger was nominated for a best-actor Oscar for his role as an anguished gay ranch hand in last year's "Brokeback Mountain."
"Our challenge in casting The Joker was to find an actor who is not just extraordinarily talented but fearless," Nolan said in the Warner Bros. statement issued Monday. "Watching Heath Ledger's interpretation of this iconic character taking on Christian Bale's Batman is going to be incredible."
-
I've never seen a movie with Heath Ledger in it, so I can't say on whether he's good or not. But he's been Oscar nominated so I'll remain optimistic about this choice.
-
zomg! HEATH!!!!!!
But, dammit, this means I'll have to watch another stupid shitty Batman movie again.
-
Robin Williams, Adrien Brody, Paul Bettany, and some other dude were all going for the Joker role as well. Maybe Heath had some Brokeback Action with the Casting Director to get the part.
Jack Nicholson was awesome as the Joker. I'll so be comparing Heath to him. Can't forget him Taking out a long gun out of his pants and taking out the Batmobile.
The Penguin and Harvey Dent/TwoFace might make an appearance in the sequel as well.
-
But but... How can someone "pretty" be the Joker o_O LOL
I guess they'll have to add lots and lots of make-up.
Jack Nicholson will always be the Joker for me
-
i bet they're gna have some batman/joker brokeback action IN the movie.. or after the credits or something.. hehhehe
-
I bet Heath Ledger is trying to get as far away as possible from all of these gay associations! XD
-
No one will ever beat Jack Nicholson's performance as the Joker. I won't believe it until I see if when it comes to Heath Ledger being right for this part. Sure doesn't sound like the right choice to me o_o;;
Very happy to hear that Christian Bale is returning as Batman, though (I think I already knew this, but I have a thing for stating the obvious XD). Christian Bale is an awfully talented man, and I really liked his performance in Batman Begins
-
I bet Heath Ledger is trying to get as far away as possible from all of these gay associations! XD
Then why would he be a part of a movie about the gayest superhero ever? :|
-
^ You tell me who's gayer
This guy?
Or this guy?
Take your time :P
-
Batman's not gay. He just likes to have younger boys as sidekicks. He also plays a lot with Catwoman and when he doesn't want to get his hands dirty, he asks his butler Alfred to scrub his back :)
Yeah, I agree that Jack was the best ever to play the Joker. His portryal was top-notch and I'm still scared of him whenever the flash him during a Laker game.
Joker's one of my favorite villains. It would be a real challenge for Heath to be the Joker but maybe he can pull it thriugh.
-
Yay! Two hot men in one movie is a definite win for me~
-
they're trying to pull away from Jack Nicholson's Joker and be more faithful to the comic book Joker i think.. he's not supposed to be funny or silly. he's gonna be a damn sick psychopath killer.. woohoo!
i hope they do the knightfall saga one day where bane defeated batman.. that's one hell of a story.. the Bane in batman & robin sucked ass..
-
What are you talking about, Tuffty?
Pink is manly!
-
maaaan joker needs to come with his own movie. people need to know his side of the story, i can almost guarentee it'll be more interesting than mines........i mean batman's
-
Perhaps they should make a movie out of "The Killing Joke" storyline. It's one of the best Joker stories ever, showing the sick side of this criminal and how he came to be.
-
haha nice title! i'd pay to see it :yep:
-
Yeah, I agree that Jack was the best ever to play the Joker. His portryal was top-notch and I'm still scared of him whenever the flash him during a Laker game.
It's PRECISELY coz he was good at it that I'm still spooked and quite glad that he's The Joker no more. >_<
Heath Ledger... Hmm...
-
They're filming the movie now, and there are some paparazzi pics of Ledger in his Joker getup...somewhat.
http://www.superherohype.com/news/topnews.php?id=5530
-
which one is ledger? lol
wost paparazzi pics ever.
-
^ The first pic, he's the one on the right. And yeah, they're pretty bad.
-
This should have been Adrianne Brody instead :scolding:
-
Looks like my mate Phil.
I don't know why they're bothering to continue this Batman, I thought the first one was a bit rubbish and I'm usually right when it comes to films :D
-
omg, hope he can pull it off. I guess if he can play a gay guy he can play a bad guy. And he played a gay guy pretty well
-
Robin Williams, Adrien Brody, Paul Bettany, and some other dude were all going for the Joker role as well. Maybe Heath had some Brokeback Action with the Casting Director to get the part.
Robin Williams could be a good Joker... he has that crazy edge to him...
To me, Batman started sucking when they had the terminator in there... ::shudders::
-
Perhaps they should make a movie out of "The Killing Joke" storyline. It's one of the best Joker stories ever, showing the sick side of this criminal and how he came to be.
I think i read somewhere that that's the Joker they're going for in this movie.
Also, those joker pics were confirmed fake =P They were fan made
-
I don't think Heath Ledger is that good of an actor, but I think this will turn out nicely in the end. Mmm, Christian Bale
-

Though its a bad angle, he does remind me of Jack Nickleson in that gettup.
-
...the first photo of Heath Ledger as The Joker was slowly being revealed as more and more people entered their e-mails. The photo has now been completely uncovered and can be seen below! The Dark Knight hits theaters on July 18, 2008. (http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=20534)
-
I think Heath Ledger deserve to be Joker
-
Damn, he looks amazing as the Joker. I really need to see the old movies (with Jack), the animated series (with Mark Hammil(sp?)), and this and compare the three. *lol* ;D
-
Not clear photo, but you can get an idea of how the Joker will look:

Ledger seems like a good actor in my book. I just hope he doesn't just copy the other Jokers, but improve upon them.
-
I love how this adaptation of Batman along with Begins is more gritty and realistic than something like Spiderman or other comic movies so seeing the Joker's look, I am very pleased.
-
^ I really like it too. A friend of mine hates it though, and says he looks like an emo clown. But to be fair, it is one photo. I imagine this movie could show how the Joker was created, so who knows, during the film he himself may be discovering and creating his own identity into the one we usually know of, like Batman did in the first movie.
-
Heath ledger kinda reminds me of "Sweet Tooth" from Twisted Metal Black a bit.Crazy @SS clown!
He even cut his lips to make his smiler bigger.Crazy @SS clown!
-
Because there isn't a general Batman topic, here's the new Batman suit:
http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=21042
Funky! :cool1:
-
That is so badass O0
-
Seeing as someone just pointed it out to me, I also present the Joker's car:
http://www.filmwad.com/the-joker-s-car-revealed-for-i-dark-knight-i-is-it-okay-to-call-it-the-jokermobile--2956-p.html
Looks good too.
-
Looks better than Bat-tank.
Don't know about speed and firepower though.
-
Info is coming in thick and fast lately. Here's the 'Batpod':

-
^Thats phat, the engines in the hubs.
Wonder how it rides.
-
Seems there's a surprise addition to the cast... (http://www.superherohype.com/news/topnews.php?id=5895)
Don't read if you don't want to be spoiled mmm, kay?
-
Interesting. I won't spoil anthing from the link .
-
Hrr... The Batpod looks as awful as the Battank. Ultimate lack of batness!
He should just drive Sierra in the next movie... or Honda Monkey. Or steal Joker's car, that's be stylish.
-
Someone has described what happens in the trailer that's due to play with The Simpsons Movie starting July 27 (http://www.superherohype.com/news/topnews.php?id=6040)
Obviously, don't read if you don't want to be spoiled although: I'm really curious as to what the Joker says. The person describing it wouldn't divulge and apparently it is chilling

The teaser trailer has been posted (http://video.whysoserious.com/TDK_Teaser_HD_Medium_bV78g1K.mov)
And a new official photo as well:

r they gonna keep joker's hair blonde or r they gonna turn it green? hope this is just the beginning of the movie
-
Didn't the Joker die in the last film he was in?
-
Didn't the Joker die in the last film he was in?
This is "Batman Begins" though, so it's kind of the 'beginning' of everything and every movie, I think.
Heath as the Joker

A lot of news to get through today, so let’s get things started.
Last night, Christopher Nolan and the gang debuted a special IMAX presentation for a lucky group of NY press: the first six minutes of his upcoming Dark Knight, meant to introduce Ledger’s Joker to audiences and to stand alone as a “short film.”
I won’t reprint the shot-for-shot descriptions of the sequence (mainly because I’d rather not spoil things for myself), but the spoiler-immune can check them out here and here.
UGO had some choice praise for the Ledger’s performance, saying: “Know that it is badass. Forget Nicholson, “The Laughing Fish,” Caesar Romero, Mark Hamill and The Killing Joke. Heath Ledger’s Joker is THE definitive Joker.”
Personally, I’ll believe it when I see it, but similar reports from Wizard have thrown the hype machine into overdrive.
Starting next weekend though, you can be the judge, when the footage appears before select IMAX screenings of I Am Legend (and, in all likelihood, on your computer screen soon thereafter).
And while Nolan was busy giving away his beginning, Will Smith was leaking the ending to the aforementioned I Am Legend during the movie’s press tour of Japan. PR asked those present to ignore Smith’s gaff and keep the secret to themselves; almost surprisingly, it seems like the plea has worked… so far.

someone uploaded the Trailer they showed at I Am Legend

-
Wow, that was amazing! :o Heath Ledger looks like he'll be a great Joker.
-
The video has been removed from youtube but I guess it's same as this one (http://atasteforthetheatrical.com/deathtrap/default.htm).
Joker seems to be stealing the show... Heath Ledger seems to be perfect choice for the role, as is Maggie Gylleenhaal for replacing Katie Holmes.
-
I was a little worried about Ledger as the Joker, but goddamn! He's badass, man. Too bad we still have to wait until summer...
-
Looks fucking sweet! The poster, better!

hey woah, check the "london" picture, it's active and has a set of clues to solve and GPS co-ordinates to find, and a safe to open with a number lock on it, which I assume the trailer is inside of... interestiiing...
Shame I only have one friend in London and she's not online or willing to run around London at 10PM at night

SO EXCITED.
Really, July can't get here fast enough. I really love the new posters, especially the Joker/Bats/Harvey one.

Kevin Smith's thoughts on The Dark Knight
Without giving anything away, this is an epic film (and trust me: based on the sheer size and scope of the visuals and storytelling, that's not an overstatement). It's the "Godfather II" of comic book films and three times more earnest than "Batman Begins" (and fuck, was that an earnest film). Easily the most adult comic book film ever made. Heath Ledger didn't so much give a performance as he disappeared completely into the role; I know I'm not the first to suggest this, but he'll likely get at least an Oscar nod (if not the win) for Best Supporting Actor. Fucking flick's nearly three hours long and only leaves you wanting more (in a great way). I can't imagine anyone being disappointed by it. Nolan and crew have created something close to a masterpiece.

^ That endorsement, plus the early reviews I've read, in which it recieved perfect scores from, have got me so excited for this movie, that I haven't felt in a long time.
-
^
Amen. I'm going to try to reserve tickets for opening day (or close to it). I know if I don't, it will end up getting spoiled.
Two-Face is going to look sick. I'm so excited!

I bought a "The Dark Knight" shirt from Target.
And I've been pimpin it all over the place.
I might have to watch this on IMAX like I did the first one!

The Dark Knight Selling All The Way Through 6AM!
Recent reports from tickets website Fandango.com have noted that various movie theaters across the country are adding 3AM and 6AM showings of The Dark Knight because it's already selling out so quickly. Didn't I tell everyone to watch out? They report that there are over 1500 showings between midnight at 6AM across the country. Although most of the 3AM and 6AM shows aren't going to sell out, this definitely means The Dark Knight is barreling towards breaking some big records next weekend. I knew this was coming, but for those who didn't, now is your chance to really get a feel for how big The Dark Knight is going to be. This already tops off the previous announcement that Dark Knight had sold eight times as many tickets as Spider-Man 3 at that time. Excited yet?
Before this news gets blown out of proportion, just because 3AM and 6AM shows have been added, they're probably not going to sell out. It's just a question of money: can the theater sell enough tickets to make enough money to cover the staff needed to man the place throughout the night. I remember Spider-Man 2 had 24 hour opening days, where they would run the film non-stop from midnight to midnight (and a friend of mine went to every single showing). This just means The Dark Knight is going to have a huge opening weekend - but we already knew that right? This is my favorite statistic from Fandango's reports: 38% say that they intend to take off a few hours or the entire day from work on Friday as a result of seeing the movie the night before. The Dark Knight is going to have one hell of an epic opening weekend.
http://www.firstshowing.net/2008/07/09/the-dark-knight-selling-all-the-way-through-6am/
The Dark Knight is gonna be fucking huge!
A few quotes from rottentomatoes.com:
"This is not a Batman movie -- this is a 2008 version of The Untouchables with The Batman as Elliot Ness, The Joker as Al Capone, and much better toys."
"Martin Scorsese's The Departed. Michael Mann's Heat. Brian de Palma's The Untouchables. And now, Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight can join the ranks as one of the best crime dramas in modern movie history."
"The Dark Knight is not only the best film I have seen this year, but quite possibly the best superhero movie ever made. "
"A dark, ambitious, mature and gritty crime saga the likes of which Michael Mann or Martin Scorsese would be proud to call their own."

-
^ I read the title as 'The Dark Knight selling all the way through GAM'. I was like, are Aya and Miki promoting it?! XD
Anyway yeh, so hyped for this movie. Amazing to hear it's broken Spiderman's record.

holy shit I've been too busy spacing out I didn't get an imax ticket, and just about every showing that weekend is sold out except for ones at like 9am D:
Fuck me man.
-
I'm calling my theatre today to see when I can actually get a ticket. I also spaced out and now I'm pretty upset about it. Ah well, I'll see it eventually. I'll just have to make sure it doesn't get spoiled.
I'm pretty excited about Ledger's performance, especially since people are saying he may get nominated for the Academy Award. That would be pretty amazing. I'm also excited to see Two-Face. I saw that clip that showed the tiniest little corner of his face. Apparently he looks pretty disgusting.
-
Me and Shirenu are going to see this tonight!
We'll be sure to leave plenty of spoilers here for everybody :nya:
-
^ Aw bless. Try to stay focused on the movie and not each other :P
On a mini rant here over this comment in this review:
You may emerge more exhausted than elated. Nolan wants to prove that a superhero movie needn't be disposable, effects-ridden junk food, and you have to admire his ambition. But this is Batman, not "Hamlet." Call me shallow, but I wish it were a little more fun.
http://www.newsweek.com/id/145509
He's shallow. We've already had our campy, fun Batman movies with Bat nipples included, now let's have the more accurate translation. And this is from someone who hasn't even read any comic books.
-
So not fair!! not only does Australia get it 2 days before the US (which ebc and shirenu are watching NOW ;__;), but the US gets it a week before the UK and I have to wait until the 25th! :( :( :( :(
I'll go to the IMAX though.. when I can..
-
Owait Australia got it earlier?? I had no idea. Lucky us! But it's no fun if we can't discuss it with anyone!! I'd have one question about the villain(s) but I guess it's mostly lack of research on my part.
Without spoiling anything, I really enjoyed the movie :3 I felt that it was filled with action & had some nice twists. But it was *dark*, yeah. Very very dark.
About Ledger, if he does get an Oscar nomination, I'm pretty sure it will be because he died. He did an awesome job as Joker, but can anyone srsly remember the last time a role like this in a movie like this got an Oscar nomination? I'm no pro on Oscars, but I don't think they usually reward stuff like this (stuff that I like, bwaha). I think if Heath was alive people would totally be buzzing about how great he was nearly as much as they are now, but I don't think possible Oscar nomination would be discussed as much? Well that's what I think. But if he does get a nomination, I won't complain :D
Oyeah and Two-Face looks like OUCH.
-
Don't worry, Shi. We'll be able to talk about it when I get home tomorrow morning  I'll show up at 4 am just to talk to you about it.
If it's as dark as everyone is saying, it should prove to be one of my favorite movies.
-
I just got back from the midnight show which my roommate randomly got tickets for at the last minute for. GREAT movie, I seriously enjoyed this film. Great performances all around really.
-
Saw the midnight show as well! Sick movie. I won't talk about it yet, i don't wanna spoil anything.
Joker is tha shit!
I can make this pencil disappear!
hahahahah

Don't like to say it but I think all this posthumous Oscar nomination buzz is a free way for Warner Bros to generate hype and publicity for the movie.
-
JUST got back from seeing it and OH MY GAAAAAAAH.
The line at the theater was insane, but oh-so-worth it. I don't want to spoil anything yet either, but it was literally (as in all "internet slang" aside) epic.
I can make this pencil disappear!
One of my favorite parts. Haha. The Joker scared the crap out of me at some parts. Like wow.

I still have to wait one more week cause the movie is opening here on 25th
DARK KNIGHT sets all-time record for Midnight opening with $18.4M, topping REVENGE OF THE SITH!
It's official. Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight (Warner Bros), easily the most buzzed-about movie of 2008, has laid to waste the midnight opening record of Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (Fox) with a staggering $18.4M overnight.
The mystique surrounding the tragic death of Heath Ledger and the accompanying Oscar buzz for his performance, the impeccable reviews, the fact that Nolan shot significant chunks of the movie in 70MM IMAX cameras, Warner Bros distribution department's ability to secure a record number of playdates at the peak of the summer and the amazing work of the WB marketing team, including the WhySoSerious.com website, have all added up to a monstrous first night.
Attentions now turn to the question of whether The Dark Knight can top Spider-Man 3's opening day of $59.84M and the all-time best opening weekend record of $151.11M also set by Spidey 3. Since Sam Raimi's record-setter generated only $9M or so in midnight shows last May, the Batman Begins sequel has a head start on SM3.
All of us who follow the business love to watch records fall, but, in the final analysis, The Dark Knight has already blown away expectations for every metric used to measure a movie's success. My weekend prediction has been $136M, enough to make this the all-time #2 opening in movie history, but the odds are increasing that The Dark Knight can trump Spider-Man 3 and become the #1 movie of 2008 soaring past Paramount releases Iron Man and Indiana Jones & The Kingdom of The Crystal Skull.

Heath Ledger - The Late Actor Talks Dark Knight
2008 started off with a tragedy in the movie world with the death of Heath Ledger. One of the most promising Hollywood stars of his generation, his death came just a couple of years after his Oscar nomination for Brokeback Mountain. He died part way through filming the Terry Gilliam movie The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, which is being completed by other actors in a tribute to the star. His biggest role to date was as The Joker in the upcoming ‘Batman’ movie The Dark Knight, which he talked about in this interview in 2007 on location in Chicago.
I just got off a plane. I was picked up at 4am from my house this morning in LA. It’s okay.
Are you lucid enough to tell all?
(laughs) You caught me at a good moment.
Everyone said that you were fearless taking on this role, is that really true?
I definitely feared it. Anything that fears me, I guess, excites me at the same time and so I don’t know if I was fearless, but I certainly had to put on a brave face and believe that I had something up my sleeve and something that was different.
Did you watch any of the Jack Nicholson stuff?
Oh yeah. (laughs) I mean, not after I got the role, but I’ve seen it many times before, I was a huge fan of it and you having seen Chris’s first film, I knew that there’s a big difference between a Chris Nolan film and a Tim Burton film and so therefore there was enough room for a fresh portrayal and so I’ve kind of steered away from what Jack did (laughs) hopefully.
In what way?
I don’t know. I’m not at liberty to say.
How did you build your character? Did you start with the comic books or the movies or the TV series?
A bit of both. Like I sat around a hotel room in London, for about a month and I just locked myself away and formed a little diary and experimented with voices and I’ll answer your question (laughs), he’s you know I ended up making him within the realm of a psychopath kind of like zero empathy or very little to no conscience towards his acts which is fun because there’s no real limits on their boundaries to what he would say or how he would say something or what he would do. So, yeah that, I don’t know it’s always a very personal process in terms of how you land in your characters shoes, so to speak, It’s a combination of reading all the comic books I could and the script, and then just really closing my eyes and meditating on it. Chris and I very much see eye to eye on how the character should be played, and that was evident from the first kind of meeting we had on the project. We both had identical images in our minds and so I went away, found it, came back.
Do we see the man behind The Joker?
I don’t know. (laughs) I really don’t know what to say, I feel like I’ll be assassinated if I tell you something wrong…
We know there’s a prologue, but we don’t know exactly what is in that
OK, I’m really not sure what I’m allowed to say (laughs)
Again, with that process of getting into The Joker, is the idea that he may have once been a normal person?
Yeah, I think most of the villains in kind of the Chris Nolan style of Batman movies are normal people, once were normal people. I definitely kind of came to my own conclusions to his background and but one thing, and I don’t know whether I’d be putting my foot in my mouth by giving you that, I guess it’s my secret too at this point so I don’t know. This is the first time I’d had to speak about it and no ones really prepped me and (laughs) on what I can say or not.
How long does it take to put the face on?
An hour and a half kinda thing. It’s pretty quick. They come up with a new technology for the mouthpiece , the scars are made out of silicone, not prosthetic, and so they have three silicon stamps that they put on here, here and here, the whole bottom lip is fake essentially, and they glue it on in here and so yeah, it takes like half an hour to put those on and then twenty minutes, half an hour to paint the face.
Has your daughter seen you as The Joker?
No, no. I think she’s seen like an image of it but…
Was she scared?
She just kind of frowned at it you know. (laughs). I don’t think she connected me to it yeah.
So does that really help with the character? You got a costume in there as well and the whole feel, look…
Yeah, yeah, it’s definitely the icing on the cake toward all the research that you do prior to shooting. There’s something about the metaphor to work behind a mask and from within a mask always gives you the license to do whatever you want or the freedom, free of feeling like you’re being judged or viewed and so I’m literally wearing a mask now which empowers me twice as much to kind of feel free and feel unrestrained here and it’s pretty exciting
How do you get into the mindset of evil?
I think we all have it in us, you know. I don’t know, once again, it’s kind of you know, like for awhile there I was thinking that sometimes I’ll connect some exterior thoughts, I’m kind of eating raw meat and what that does to your mouth and to your eyes and simple little visuals like that that can kind of twist your mind a little bit and it feels evil when it’s not necessarily an evil thought, but it may look and come across as evil. I don’t know, I guess just the rest is trusting like your research and trusting all the definitions of these words, a psychopath and you know, and then just running with it. You know? I don’t know, I’m trying not to give it too much thought at this point and…
Nicholson said the first time he saw himself as The Joker he forgot his lines. Was there a moment you looked at your performance and felt a certain way?
I haven’t looked at it yet. I’ve heard it, in the trailer and it kinda creeped me out a little bit but I haven’t seen it yet.
Why? Why haven’t you seen it?
I just, I don’t know where I’d see it. We don’t have playback, I don’t want to see playback, and I just, I haven’t seen, I don’t know if you’d, they’ve put together a trailer of some sort for…
You never see dailies of the film?
No. I did. I did. I used to. But now I just find it’s a waste of time. (laughs) I’d rather go home, go to sleep (laughs)…it’s too late
Is that because you found you were readjusting your performance when you were doing that?
Sometimes, yeah, sometimes. I mean, just out of insecurities I used to do it, and schooling, self tutored.
How is his physicality? He must be much more physical than the last one? He’s younger etc. And Christian Bale is a very physical actor and very athletic
Christian’s beaten me up a couple of times (laughs) through the film. (laughs) he actually punched me in the jaw at one point!
Yeah?
Yeah, not hard. He’s a total gentleman about it. He kind of tapped me on the shoulder and it’s been physical, but I enjoy that. I get battered and bruised, but I don’t know, I like feeling pain too, it’s kind of acting, in a way.
And you found a way to walk etc?
Definitely, I found an interesting kind of posture of sort, which I felt went with his aggressive nature and a walk and it’s hard to describe I guess, it’s a little hunched.
Is this a role you had to go to the gym much?
No. (laughs) Thank God, yeah.
So that’s good.
Yeah. (laughs)
Can you talk about your scenes with Christian. You’re the nemesis you know, the iconic Batman nemesis there must be some electricity?
Well, firstly, it’s an honor to work with Christian. I mean the cast in general is pretty outstanding, I mean, every single one of these people I’ve wanted to work with, and have inspired me at some point and so it’s ridiculous, the cast and my first scene was with Gary Oldman, which was mind blowing. Then after he leaves the interrogation room, Batman arrives (laughs), you know? And suddenly, I realized what movie I was in (laughs) and it’s quite fun actually because you know I was supposed to, you know, nothing really gets under my skin, including Batman, and it’s quite easy, as an actor, because it’s kind of funny, seeing someone dressed up in a bat suit, it was easy to laugh at it but he’s incredibly professional and incredibly focused and you know, one of the loveliest guys I’ve ever worked with and a brilliant actor and, even down to Batman like how serious he takes it, and how he transforms and his voice shifts and aggressive he gets, it’s really inspiring stuff.
So the concept is that Batman uses fear, and that Joker has no fear of Batman – it’s that kind of relationship?
Yeah. They can’t really live without each other. It’s that kind of relationship. You know? Like they have no real purpose in life without each other. So they don’t really want each other dead.
And how about working with Maggie Gyllenhaal, because obviously you’ve worked with her brother before and did you know her before?
Yeah. Yeah I did. Yeah, that’s been great too. I stuck a knife (laughs) into her and… no, it’s been a lot of fun and you know, she’s also a Brooklynite and so we’ve just been kinda, trading a lot of family stories and yeah, it’s been fun.
Could you describe what sets Chris Nolan apart from other directors?
He drinks a lot more tea than I’ve seen another director drink (laughs). That definitely sets him apart. He’s so young, but seems so old and he’s just incredibly mature and organized and relaxed on set, and he’s definitely in his world. He has a wonderful relationship with his DP, Wally, and those two kind of seem to have the entire world mapped out, and we just kind of follow in their path. I couldn’t imagine what it’s like directing a movie this size, but he manages to kind of keep a clear head and he’s super organized, he actually just, surprisingly enough, like as organized as he is, he really just shoots as he goes too, like he makes a lot of it up, as he goes and he’s very flexible in that way.
Since he’s also the co-writer is he also involved in any fine-tuning of Joker’s lines…
Me? No, not really. No he was all there, he was all on page. They did a really good job.
Everybody says how dark the film is but is there any moment of just kind of twisted fun that The Joker brings to the table?
Yeah, yeah, all the time. There’s nothing consistent about him at all, so he’s not consistently dark or consistently fun, or funny, just going up and down the whole time.
You had fun in terms of playing it?
Yeah, it’s the most fun I’ve had, playing a role.
This is very different than your character in Brokeback Mountain who is so restrained?
Yeah, absolutely, I’m really surprised Chris knew that I or thought or believed that I had something in me like this and I don’t know how he came to ask me to do it. But yeah it is. It’s definitely the most fun I’ve had and the most freedom I’ve had and the work schedule’s great (laughs), I work two days and have three weeks off (laughs) It’s like that for six months, so went surfing a lot.
But you do some work?!
Yeah, yeah, I do. It’s just a long schedule, and there’s a lot of action sequences, so action sequences take three weeks to a month sometimes to shoot.
Any injuries or hairy moments?
No but I let Christian, he went and stood up on the Sears Tower himself, they took him right up to the very top and he took his feet right to the edge. And they put him on a thin wire and he just leaned off the tower like this (demonstrating) which I thought was a pretty cool story. There’s been a lot of car chases and there was an Imax camera that got busted up, got jammed between a truck and a car and they just you know, replaced it (laughs), kept on shooting, as you do.
Is this the most expensive movie you’ve ever made?
Yeah, definitely.
Does that have an influence on your performance? It’s different from Brokeback Mountain?
Yeah, it’s completely different. It doesn’t really change that space of time between action and cut that’s always the same no matter what’s around you, it’s the same place you live in. But yeah it’s a different ballgame, it’s quite amazing, it’s quite jaw dropping, yeah. It’s fun. It’s been a lot of fun watching it.
Besides being a masked guy, what does he have? a car? Something special?
The Jokermobile? (laughs) Rollerblades, yeah (laughs), that would be funny. No he doesn’t have a set of wheels - he just steals whatever’s around.
He has that image of someone who has that flower that squirts acid, that sort of thing?
No, not a lot of gimmicks.
Just you and a knife?
He’s just bloody, yeah.
It’s a gory one?
I mean it’s, you know, it’s a PG-13 isn’t it? I think, so not really, you know, I think it suggests more gore, I remember going into this thinking it was PG-13 but I wanted to present an X rated performance, if I could. So it’s kind of what I’ve been going for and the power of suggestion. It is pretty dark, but there’s not a lot of gore.
Have you run into Jack Nicholson since you go the part?
I wish. (laughs) I’ve never run into him but I’d like to. Not literally.

I'll be seeing TDK tonight with my sister! I can't wait~~
-
I'm seeing it tomorrow night..it was packed up at the drive-in at 6:30..that'll probably be the time I'll go up there or earlier
-
Im gonna see this on Sunday with my girlfriend. Sadly I won't be seeing it in IMAX because it's all sold out! I hope imax doesn't make much of a difference XD, besides a bigger screen and sound.
-
Just got back from watching it, and like the 2 superhero movies before it, it was awesome. I'd definitely watch it again given the chance.
It would be unfair to compare it to Iron Man and Hulk though, since TDK used a different approach. The Marvel movies used a lot of flashy special/CG effects, witty dialogue and fanservice, while TDK focused more on the overall story and character development,(which I assume other people consider boring) but these in fact, are what makes TDK a good movie that can be appreciated even by non-comic book readers.
Did you guys see Edison Chen?
-
Woke up early this morning and caught the 9:45 am showing. Actually had to park my car far and run to theatre because I was late. Overall I was impressed by the dark and gritty storyline. One of the most realistic comic book movies out there. Ledger's acting as the psychotic Joker was stellar. Batman kicks serious arse and the action scenes and pacing of the story was cooked to perfection. It was violent enough to satisfy my violent tastes. Definitely not for kids as there are some disturbing scenes and strong menace throughout. 4 thumbs up!
-
just got back from seeing the movie..UNBELIEVABLE!!
lets see..where should I start..?
Ledger's portrayal of the Joker-the best Joker I've seen..he HAS to get serious nods for an Oscar. There's so many scenes to talk about that I couldn't believe my eyes..I have to say I laughed a little for some of the scenes.
Gotta give serious props to Aaron Eckhart..he played Harvey/Two-Face pretty well. Had the face, costume and the coin suited well.
Christian Bale's performance of Batman was as dark, just like the comic. The way it should be.
I won't spoil it for the rest of you guys..but let's just say: Batman 3 anybody?
-
The movie was epic.
Ledger was sooo good. I'm so disappointed he died.
Anyways, was it only me, or did I see a possible Robin for Batman 3?
-
if you mean Gordon's son, no. Nolan has said these are the early years of Batman, 'Robin is out there in a crib somewhere'
Ledger was epic, stole the show, deserves Oscar nod. Movie overall was amazing and extremely badass, action scenes were great and brilliantly shot. A touch too long, and those sonar scenes were fucken disorienting. Vague ending will have to be explained in the third installment (which wont make it to theatres for a good number of years, most are saying). Some cool plot things that were unexpected. By far the best Batman film, and one of the best of the summer, but I don't think it takes my #1 slot for the year so far (right up there, though).
-
I guess we can go for a Robin for 3 is there will be one, which looks like it. After everything happened with the movie, inside and outside the movie, I guess a Robin is in order. But with the Nolan movies, most if not all the important characters have some sort of psychological problem with them when they enter or exit the movie. So I guess going on that line, Dick Grayson would fit since in the comics, his parents die and Bruce fathers him, which eventually leads him to be Robin.
But as for TDK, it was epic.
-
Haha man the movie was fuckin awesome.
-
This kicked so much ass
Ledger was amazing, and Bale made me swoon as usual. Darker!Batman is... :inlove:
-
Wish Friday would hurry up and arrive!!
Batman film The Dark Knight has set a single-day box office record by taking $66.4m (£33.2m) on its opening night, distributor Warner Bros has said.
The movie, which debuted in the US on Friday, has surpassed the previous record of $59.8m (£29.9m) set last year by Spider-Man 3, the studio said.
Directed by Christopher Nolan and starring Christian Bale as Batman, it cost $185m (£92.5m) to make.
Critics have praised the film, which also stars the late actor Heath Ledger.
'Proud'
"We have been thrilled by the response to The Dark Knight, first from the critics and now from audiences," said Dan Fellman, Warner's head of distribution.
Ledger, who died following a drug overdose in January aged 28, played the Joker.
Some supporters have suggested that he should get a posthumous Oscar nomination.
Last week Ledger's co-stars paid tribute to him at the world premiere of the film in New York.
"We're very proud of the film," said Fellman.
"It's the magic of the movie business, how one film just stands out above the others."
The Dark Knight will be premiered in the UK on 21 July.
The last Batman movie, Batman Begins, in 2005, grossed nearly $49 million (£24.5m) in its first weekend in North America.
It went on to collect about $372 million (£186m) worldwide.

Dang dude, don't cheat yourself with a bootleg, especially this particular film =) You never get the full effect of a scene/movie with a crappy cam version.
-----
SPOILERS!!!!!!!! AND COMMENTS!
I hope they don't put Robin in yet. To me, that would lose its Dark edge.
Movie was good, but i think the action scenes coulda been better choreographed.
What's up with Scarecrow? I was sooo excited to see him have more of a role, but it was only for like 2 mins. =(
A lot of scenes were edited, for sure. I think it was to comply with the pg13 rating. Like when Joker dropped the chick off the roof. Batman saved her, then it cuts to a completely new scene... WTF? what happened to Joker in the Tower? Wouldn't he be looking for Dent more? Or he just left quietly? Also, when Joker killed Spawn (Michael Jai White), the black guy i think his name was Gamble. They didn't show the knife cut or whatever. It was just a sound...
Last, it was a little too long for me. Yeah, its cool and all, batman kicking ass, and Joker was just too good, but yeah, that last scene with 2Face, i wasn't expecting. I thought it was done. So, is he dead? He didnt really last long. I kinda wanted his coin to be scratched up like the comic, not dirty.
I think thats all my gripes with the film.
Joker was just, you have to see it. A lot of quotables. His monologues were great. That pencil trick that right there pretty much setup what the Joker was gonna be for the whole movie. Great way to open his character. That nurse scene! Too funny! The way he said Hi with that face and the wig, killer! Even that part where Gordon got promoted, then you see him clapping! Although Jack Nicholson's Joker was different, hands down Heath's was better.
-
Anyone else think the joker actually gave batman the right addresses for dent/rachel, but them knowing joker they went to the opposite ones to ruin his "plan"?
This movie was fantastic. Heath did a wonderful job as Joker, nothing was ~too predictable~ and thats what i liked the most
-
mind was blown, gonna go watch it again with my friends at the imax since we couldn't the those tickets this week
tops wall-e for best movie of the year imo

I'm not being cheap I just do not like cinema's, unless its one of those big THX certified one's, but haven't been there in years either.
I'm waiting for the DVD, but until then I do like to know what I am buying.

Just watched the movie yesterday and it was an awesome movie! I was surprised at how well took on the role of Aaron Eckhart. I had my doubts, but he pulled it off. Heath Ledger's Joker was phenomenal and lived up to the hype. I didn't get to see it in IMAX, but it was still an awesome experience.
-
Fucking movie blew me away. I AM the Joker. So many good quotes...
SPOILERS
Like the part where he goes "I gotta do everything myself!!" to his incompetent henchman, and even when he got all the gangs to help." That nod to Jack was EPIC "YOU COMPLETE ME!!" ROCK ON. Slamming that guys face with a pencil. Oscar fo sho.
Batman/Bruce Wayne sure took a backseat in all this. But Two-face was pretty well developed. How fast he fell and the sacrifice Batman took to honor him was a cool twist to the usual 1 sided comic book movie. Great balance.
The story with Lucius and the trust Batman sacrificed just to save his friends totally gripping, u feel for Batman in that sense.
-
There's spoilers in this post. If there's really is someone who reads this thread and try to avoid them.
For starters, this is certainly the most hyped film of the year. Too bad that it's overhype. The Dark Knight is a good film. Not great, not awesome, but ok. Certainly one of the best Batman films made.
First, Heath Ledger's Joker is great. Making pencil disappear = pure greatness. As crazy he is, he's great. But then he somehow loses his craziness and becomes more and more ordinary. I didn't like that. And that's why I still think Nicholson's Joker was better.
Ledger's Joker is still good enough to steal the show from the Batman. Dark Knight doesn't do much in the film. And he doesn't have any cool scenes. I had heard that the fighting scenes would be better than in Batman Begins. Ehmm, what fighting scenes? Bale just growls through the movie having some conversations with Gordon and Dent. The Gotham-wide cellphone-sonar thing was stupid.
I liked the plot though, especially seeing Joker's success on bombing Rachel and Dent and a hospital. The ferry thing wasn't credible enough.
Aaron Eckhart was a good choice for Arthur Dent, but his character was too new for falling to the dark side. It was just too soon, didn't feel anywhere... It would've been better if they had left the whole becoming Two-Face plot for the next movie. I wanted to see a proper Joker vs. Batman showdown anyway.
-
The Dark Knight is fucking amazing and it totally exceeded my expectations. It's seriously the most awesome movie I have seen since Kill Bill. I have already seen it twice and I will prolly go see it one more time before the DVD comes out. I would say that the only bad thing about TDK is that it's too fucking good. I don't even feel like watching any new flicks cause I already know that they won't be nearly as amazing as TDK XD
Box Office - 'Dark Knight' Wins Again, Now Third Highest-Grossing Film in U.S. History
What an unusual five days it's been at the box office. Pineapple Express broke through big time on Wednesday, setting an August record for a Wednesday release, and then trailed off quickly. And just when it looked like The Dark Knight had reigned for its last days heading into the weekend, the Batman sequel came back in a big way to claim its fourth box office victory in a row, and almost certainly its last.
With $26 million in weekend ticket sales, according to the new Box Office Mojo estimates, The Dark Knight has now amassed $441 million in 24 days. That's the third-highest total in U.S. history. (Nobody make the case for inflation, please, because I'm tired of arguing it.)
The film will very likely beat Star Wars and its $460 million by this time next week, meaning it will have taken a month to become the second film to ever rake in over $465 million.
As for Pineapple Express, the Wednesday opening did hurt its weekend totals, a theory we put out there on Thursday. So many people wanted to see it immediately, that by the time the weekend arrived, there was little fire left. In fact, the only day where it showed an increase was going to Friday from Thursday; the Judd Apatow-produced stoner comedy starring Seth Rogen and James Franco lost audience on Saturday and on Sunday, while The Dark Knight gained about 40% of viewers on Saturday, the day that really put the sequel over the edge.
The same kind of early release blahs hit The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2, which never really got on track anyway, taking in just over $19 million over five days, and during the weekend, struggled to make $10 million. A fourth-place finish is all the film could muster, even with a near freefall by The Mummy, which held on for a third-place finish.
Step Brothers continued to do good business despite the new comedy in theaters; it rounded out the weekend's top five and has earned $80 million. $100 million seems unlikely, but there's a fair chance it could enter that club in another three or four weeks. Mamma Mia! is the newest member in that club, incidentally, and internationally, the film has nearly grossed $250 million.
But because there's really only one storyline this summer, let's ask what the new numbers mean for The Dark Knight. Regular Big Picture readers know we've looked into our crystal ball, hoping to predict where this movie will eventually end up. Titanic's $600 million is still safe, we believe, but there's a very real chance that The Dark Knight will make $535 million, maybe even more if the studio is smart and boosts its release again at Halloween.
We calculated its week-by-week performance based on a standard 40% drop during the week and then followed the weekend percentages for Pirates 2, itself a former opening weekend record breaker. It looks like that was a pretty smart formula to follow: After 24 days, we had pegged The Dark Knight at just under $446 million, and it's roughly a day off that pace. So if it continues to grow at the rate we projected - and we see no reason to change that hypothesis now - our estimates would place the film at $512 million after the Labor Day weekend. Because it's performing very close to those numbers, I think we can safely assume $500 million by Labor Day, if not a couple million more.

That is INFUCKINCREDIBLE. No stopping em. Heath must be so smiling up above. I want some Joker thing for my desk. (http://uk.gizmodo.com/joker%20figures.jpg)
I still am wondering who they gonna cast next!! Catwoman I say.
-
i took this with my iphone at the ArcLight Cinema in Hollywood after the movie ended @ 3am.

yes, these were actually the real ones worn by Christian Bale and Ledger.
-
OMGASS!!!
That is insane. Looks huge.
-
It's a good point though Daigong, who will be the next villian? There's the usual rumours floating around of Johnny Depp for The Riddler and Angelina Jolie for Catwoman damn, can you imagine that?! But I dunno, both seem rather...camp, wouldn't you say? Although I guess I shouldn't be making any presumptions. I didn't like the idea of Heath Ledger as Joker and well, look how wrong I was there.
-
Yeah, gotta go with classics and non-camp. Fuck please no Robin. Then it'd be over.
I'm a go watch this in IMAX fo sho this week KA CHING
-
I finally got to see it today. It was great overall.
-
Nah I don't think Robin will be in it for sometime, if at all. Chris Nolan has always maintained that this is the start of Batman, therefore, Robin will be "in a cradle somewhere". His words, not mine.
-

Also, little Barbara Gordon was shown for a split second in TDK and she was TINY and her and Dick are supposed to be the same age. So if he's keeping it canon as far as age goes, then that's definitely true.
I highly doubt they will cast someone like Depp or Jolie for the third (On a different note, I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that Nolan isn't too keen on Catwoman either). I hate the idea anyway. They are both way big name and the movie would become all about them and not Batman. I wouldn't mind seeing the Riddler though. I think Depp COULD do a decent job if that happened, but he's definitely not my first choice. He's a good actor, but he keeps getting typecast in "quirky" roles and they all mirror Jack Sparrow. I'd hate the see the Riddler like that, especially since he's such a good villain when portrayed/written properly like in Batman Hush or when he appeared in Green Arrow. Both times he was actually dangerous and pretty creepy.
-
especially since he's such a good villain when portrayed/written properly like in Batman Hush or when he appeared in Green Arrow. Both times he was actually dangerous and pretty creepy.
Yes, freaking love Hush. In each of the Nolan films, Batman has been tested on various things. Raz Al Ghul on his compassion, Joker on his rule of not to kill. Riddler can test his mental will, if it's written right. Me personally, I would like to see Talia Al Ghul since in one story arc, she and Batman have relations and create a kid. The movie shouldnt go as far as that, but as far as Talib liking Bruce Wayne/Batman, and since Batman trained with Raz, maybe he fell in love with him during his training.
-
Robert Downey Jr. has admitted that he is not a fan of The Dark Knight.
Downey Jr., whose Marvel superhero film Iron Man was the highest-grossing film of the year until Christopher Nolan's sequel debuted, told MovieHole that he found the latest Batman movie too complicated.
He explained: "It's like a Ferrari engine of storytelling and script writing and I'm like, 'That's not my idea of what I want to see in a movie'.
"I didn't understand The Dark Knight. Didn't get it, still can't tell you what happened in the movie, what happened to the character and in the end they need him to be a bad guy."
Downey Jr. suggested that the DC Comics adaptation was "highbrow" and required a "college education to understand".
He added: "You know what? F*** DC Comics. That's all I have to say and that's where I'm really coming from."
Oh dear. Has just wound up embarrassing himself really.

EXCL: The TDK DVDs?
Details are a little sketchy on what the DARK KNIGHT DVDs are going to include but seeing as how it's poised to become a) the second biggest movie of all-time and b) the biggest movie released in the DVD era, we knew you'd expect a lot of different versions to be available. While we still don't have a lot of the specs on what these DVDs will contain, we are starting to get some word on what kinds of versions will be available. A scooper named "Dave" sent in some images that we've been able to confirm as legit. They would confirm a 2-disc DVD, a Blu-ray, a steelbook 2-disc DVD special edition, a Batpod collector's DVD and a Batman mask collector's DVD (basically the 2-disc DVD shrink-wrapped with a Batman mask).
In trying to track down more info on these DVDs, I've heard two conflicting release dates - December 2nd and December 9th. Either way THE DARK KNIGHT is poised for some huge sales this holiday season. I've already got my eyes on that steelbook...
If anyone has any further details on these DVDs, please feel free to drop a line. The Batpod image is watermarked with a Czech website but I can't seem to find anything TDK on their site.

Aaron Eckhart on Two-Face
SPOILER ALERT!: The following article spoils certain aspects of The Dark Knight. If you have not seen the movie, turn back now!
Yes, it's true. Aaron Eckhart says goodbye to Batman. At the press day for his upcoming indie film Towelhead, ComingSoon.net/Superhero Hype! talked to the actor who portrayed Harvey Dent/Two-Face in The Dark Knight. He told us he's definitely not signed on for another film and confirmed his character is dead. Eckhart laughed about how he tried to ask if there was a chance he was coming back and was good-humored about the deadly fate of Dent.
CS/SHH!: Is Harvey Dent alive?
Aaron Eckhart: No. He is dead as a door nail.
CS/SHH!: So he's not coming back?
Eckhart: He ain't coming back baby!
CS/SHH!: I was hoping he would.
Eckhart: No. I asked Chris [Nolan] that question and he goes, "You're dead" before I could even get the question out of my mouth. "Hey Chris, am I?" "You're dead!" Alright, cool.
CS/SHH!: That's not a problem in comic book movies. You could still come back.
Eckhart: I think in contract negotiations it's a problem.
CS/SHH!: So you were never signed on for another film?
Eckhart: No, I'm not coming back. I think unfortunately, Heath [Ledger] was supposed to go on and that didn't work out. I'm nobody. I'm a cog. I have no say over this sort of stuff. I'm sure that there's so many other characters that they could whip together. I heard Angelina Jolie was going to be Catwoman or something like that. I thought that was a great idea. I'd like to be in that one.
CS/SHH!: It must be gratifying that so many people responded to your character.
Eckhart: Yeah, I dig it. Write your Congressman. I like that for the first time in my career I'm getting fan mail from kids and 8-year-olds. "My name is Bill. I really liked the film." I've never had that before. I think that's fun. I think someone told me they're going to be Harvey Two-Face for Halloween which is cool. I said to two kids the other day, "Did you see Batman yet?" Then I come to find out like two seconds later they've seen it four times. People are really going back to see it. My parents saw it I think 12 [times] so far. They're sick that it's going out of the theaters.
CS/SHH!: Do they normally see your movies 12 times?
Eckhart: I don't know about 12, but they like to go see the movies. They like to go see the audience. They like to tell people that I'm in the movie like popcorn people.

^ Tell me about it, but why have Angelina Jolie when you can have Cher?!
Cher has been lined up to play Catwoman in the next Batman movie.
The Oscar-winning actress and singer is in talks to star opposite Christian Bale in the third of the "dark" Batman films.
Cher, 62, was invited to join a cast which includes Johnny Depp as The Riddler.
A studio executive revealed: "Cher is Nolan's first choice to play Catwoman. He wants her to portray her like a vamp in her twilight years.
"The new Catwoman will be the absolute opposite of Michelle Pfeiffer and Halle Berry's purring creations."
Shooting on the film, provisionally titled The Caped Crusader, is due to start in Vancouver early next year.
The Dark Knight, this summer's big blockbuster, has been the most successful of the six modern movies, which started with Tim Burton's Batman in 1989.
http://www.mirror.co.uk/celebs/latest/2008/08/24/cher-set-to-play-catwoman-in-next-batman-movie-115875-20710497/
BTW, this article is perhaps the most ridiculous tabloid speculation ever. Cher as Catwoman? The third movie already titled The Caped Crusader?
-
^
Aaron Eckhart is probably pulling our leg about Angelina Jolie, too. And really.... I would lose a little faith in Mr. Nolan if he got Cher to play Catwoman. Seriously.
I am kind of upset that Harvey/Two-Face is REALLY dead though. I would've liked to see him come back as he was an excellent villian (*SPOILER HERE*) [bgcolor=#000000]That scene at the end when he has Gordon's kids and was like "Tell your boy it's going to be okay. LIE!" made me almost cry both times I saw it because I was so freaked out.[/bgcolor] But I'll say it again, Riddler would be the best choice for the next one. Catwoman is one of my absolute favorite comic characters of ALL TIME.... but as far as being a real threat and pushing an entire movie forward... not so much. She's only a cat burglar and while they could play with the whole Batman/Catwoman relationship, I just don't seeing lasting for a whole epic movie. Perhaps they will throw both villians in. It'd be a very interesting mix (better than Penguin and Catwoman which I am absolutely sick of. It's all over the cartoons, too).
I also can't really think of anymore pretty realistic villians that would work in a Nolan Batman film. Maybe Clayface, but not really. The only other one I'd like to see is Hush... but we're not that far in to Batman's life. Haha.

More Crazy Rumors: Michael Caine Says Depp is Riddler, Hoffman is Penguin?!
Continuing on with even more crazy rumors today (the other being Will Smith as Captain America), the folks at MTV have seemingly scooped another few superhero casting updates. This time the casting surrounds the third Christopher Nolan Batman movie. We've heard these names mentioned together before, so it seems like this isn't anything besides rehashing rumors thrown around on the internet previously, but the source this time is Michael Caine. Apparently Caine was talking with an executive at Warner Brothers about how they could "top" Heath Ledger as the Joker from Dark Knight and the exec named both Johnny Depp as The Riddler and Philip Seymour Hoffman as The Penguin. Does it look like we finally have early confirmations on the third Batman movie? Or is Caine just pulling our leg?
So Caine told MTV in an interview that the execs "already got them in mind" before naming Depp and Hoffman. "I read it in the paper," he said. But that's not all. Caine continues on with an anecdote, mentioning that he "was with [a Warner Bros.] executive and I said, 'Are we going to make another one?' They said yeah. I said, 'How the hell are we going to top Heath?' And he says 'I'll tell you how you top Heath — Johnny Depp as The Riddler and Philip Seymour Hoffman as The Penguin.' I said, 'Sh-t, they've done it again!'" I'm not sure if this is a classic case of internet rumors being blown incredibly out of proportion, to the point that the execs know who the internet "wants" to see and were just mentioning it because they like it, too. If that is the case, then none of this is really confirmed, just early speculation yet again.
I'm not going to pull up every last mention of Johnny Depp as The Riddler or Philip Seymour Hoffman as The Penguin in an attempt to uncover where this all originally began. However, I will refer to an interesting article on SlashFilm a week ago where Depp was questioned about the Riddler rumor. "It seems like it'd be a fun gig," he remarked. So as of about a week ago, Depp wasn't being talked to by the execs, as far as we know. These two actors are both incredible and could definitely fit in Christopher Nolan's dark Batman universe. I'm just curious whether there is really some truth to Caine's quotes or whether he's just stoking the fires of the rumor mill. Only time will tell, but for now it's an exciting rumor.

-
^ Ok hands up, who thought it was Dustin Hoffman at first when they read it?
-
I think he's probably pulling our leg.
“In the first movie we use Ra’s Al Ghul and The Scarecrow, who had not been in the movies before, and had not been in the sixties TV show before. And there are dozens if not hundreds of other characters that fit that bill. Everyone says its gotta be The Penguin or Catwoman… well I completely disagree.”
From hecklerspray.com. I've heard Nolan and the writers say over and over again no Penguin.
Also, this is way back in '06... which is probably where people are digging this rumor up.
"'I'd be more excited to have Philip Seymour Hoffman in the film than to have the Penguin. There are certain characters that are easier to mesh with the more real take on Batman we're doing. The Penguin would be tricky."
cinematical.com
Christoper Nolan himself. So I doubt we'll be seeing Penguin anytime soon. Probably not Catwoman, either... though that I would not oppose to.

The Dark Knight Heading Back to Theaters in January!
Warner Brothers has officially confirmed that The Dark Knight will be re-released in theaters again next January just in time for the Oscars. "It's just a matter of bringing it back as a reminder for people." The film will return specifically to IMAX theaters for now and they're uncertain if it'll return to conventional theaters as well. With The Dark Knight's current domestic box office total pushing $513 million, it's obvious that Warner Brothers wants to shoot for that $600 million mark in order to potentially beat Titanic. This re-release is also timed to tie in with the voting season for the Academy Awards, both to highlight the film during that time to remind voters and to capitalize on any buzz from nominations.
This should be great news for all those Dark Knight fans who can't wait to see it in glorious IMAX yet again, but here's where things get interesting. The film is actually due out on DVD in December, making this January re-release a much less valuable alternative. Will there be enough interest in January to earn the film another $90 million to push it past Titanic? And is The Dark Knight worthy of additional nominations (e.g. Christopher Nolan for Directing) on top of Heath Ledger? I've heard that Warner Brothers is also considering re-releasing the film every year as an event. Seeing it in IMAX is unlike anything I've ever been able to repeat, so I might actually take advantage of this re-release in January myself.
We all knew this was coming, so I'm glad to see that WB is not afraid of the hype that this film still has. I'm sure it'll get at least one additional Oscar nomination which might just be enough to help it earn $90 million more. Although in its current run, it only earned $55 million in IMAX total, and as of this moment, the January re-release is only being planned in IMAX theaters - which makes me believe that it'll be much harder to beat Titanic than originally thought.

‘Dark Knight’ Update: Philip Seymour Hoffman Responds To Casting Rumor, ‘I Don’t Know If I’d Be A Good Penguin’
Yesterday, we reported that “Dark Knight” castmember Michael Caine claimed that as far as he knew, the villains for the next “Batman” film had been cast with Johnny Depp landing the role of The Riddler, and Philip Seymour Hoffman playing The Penguin. Today at the Toronto Film Festival, we went right to the source and asked Hoffman directly if he indeed had been cast as The Penguin.
“No one has talked to me about it ever — never,” replied Hoffman. “It happened, like, five years ago, too. It was a rumor back then and it’s still a rumor. [laughs] It’s just in the press. It’s funny.”
To further cement this issue, Hoffman added that he’d never met Nolan (”Maybe I did or met him in passing?”), and that his interest in comic book movies is purely on a fan level, and he intended to keep it that way.
“I’m such a fan of those movies,” related Hoffman. “Comic book movies in general I look forward to — I am a real cheerleader for them. I want them to do well because those are terrific stories. As a kid I was a big comic book collector. What [Nolan]’s doing is taking it in a whole other exciting great place. I’m more a fan, so the interest of being in it isn’t that great. It’s more the interest in wanting to see the next one. It’s probably better that way.”
When further pressed for his level of interest if Warner Bros. approached him about the role, Hoffman said, “I don’t know. I think I’m more interested in seeing someone else do it. I don’t know if I’d be a good Penguin to be quite honest. [laughs]”

'Dark Knight' UK Release Confirmed US Date Expected
Blu-ray.com has confirmed that The Dark Knight will be released on DVD and Blu-ray in the UK on December 8 including all the features listed at the bottom of this article. That leaves us now waiting for what is expected to be a December 9 release of The Dark Knight on Blu-ray and DVD here in the States. JoBlo posted artwork and other goodies about a month ago related to the release and while they were asked to remove the images Warner Home Video did confirm "a 2-disc DVD, a Blu-ray, a steelbook 2-disc DVD special edition, a Batpod collector's DVD and a Batman mask collector's DVD (basically the 2-disc DVD shrink-wrapped with a Batman mask)."
So, start saving your money now for whatever set you decide to buy.
The only question left is what aspect ratio will the film be presented in taking into account the IMAX footage? I have heard there is a chance the film will be bouncing back and forth between the IMAX aspect ratio and the 16:9 aspect ratio the film is presented in on Blu-ray. This information came from a Chris Nolan interview with iF Magazine when he said:
The Blu-ray, in particular, will be able to actually use the shifted aspect ratios as it appears on the IMAX screen because the 16:9 aspect ratio is sufficiently different from the 2:4 that you'll actually see a shift on the Blu-ray. The resolution on the Blu-ray is clear enough that you can actually see difference in grain structure and sharpness. So I think it will be quite spectacular.
However, the aspect ratio of the IMAX filmed prologue on the Batman Begins Blu-ray was shown in 1.80:1 (not 2.20:1 IMAX) so I am not sure what we should expect. Stay tuned for more information and check out the current list of assumed features below.

Rumor: Christopher Nolan Signed and Starting in February on Batman 3?
This news today is more filler than anything - it's not fully confirmed and it will all eventually be true anyway. However, for the sake of discussion, we're throwing it out there. Apparently the latest issue of the industry magazine Production Weekly (via our friends at Film School Rejects) lists the third Batman movie (currently untitled) as being in "Active Development" with pre-production beginning in February of 2009. The guys over at IESB talked to a Warner Brothers exec recently who denied that production was going to start in February, but that doesn't necessarily mean things could be moving behind-the-scenes for a start on pre-production at that time. It's inevitable that it'll happen, it's just a matter of when.
Additionally, the update in the magazine lists Christopher Nolan (pictured above) as being involved, which may (or may not) confirm that he has signed on again. But was there any ever doubt that he wouldn't? We all know that there was some sort of "scare" with Jon Favreau and Iron Man 2, but considering The Dark Knight has made $985 million worldwide, they're not going to let him go, even if they've got to greenlight some of his other projects. As I said, it's just a matter of time until it all happens. I guess it's just mildly exciting to hear that the third installment may be starting development so soon. I know I'm anxious to find out every last morsel of info I can about it, from the villains to the cast.
We'll of course bring you the latest news on the third Batman movie as soon as there is any more. For now, I don't expect to hear much of anything until early next year when The Dark Knight will be re-released in theaters. And with a strong potential of Oscar buzz and a re-release that might push it over $1 billion in worldwide box office, that sounds like the perfect time to announce early details on the third movie. Hopefully we won't have to wait too much longer for official confirmation.

The movie absolutely deserves awards of the highest acclaim. There were expectations and reservations around Heath Ledger's casting, but he delivered an iconic performance. Best Supporting Actor is right because he wasn't in the film for the majority of it. Not so sure about Best Picture, not that I think it doesn't deserve it, far from it it's actually my favourite movie for some time, but I just feel that because it's based off a comic book, it will just be looked down upon by the panel, when it should really be judged upon the quality of the film. Something TDK has in spades right from the get-go.

Kate Beckinsale offers herself for Catwoman role
Kate Beckinsale has revealed that she would love to play Catwoman in the upcoming The Dark Knight sequel.
The Underworld actress told MTV that portraying the Batman villain "would be awesome" because she is still shocked when producers consider her for an action film role.
"I'd love to do that," she admitted. "One of the things I've done wrong with my career is not have a massive game plan for it. I enjoy being surprised.
"I was very surprised to ever find myself even considered for an action movie. I'm like the literary, academic geek who's not very good at sports, so it was amazingly shocking that anyone would ever do that. I like to be surprised."
Earlier in the month it was reported that The Mummy star Rachel Weisz was the frontrunner to nab the role.
Catwoman, who is often hailed as being Batman's one true love, was played by Michelle Pfeiffer in Batman Returns and by Halle Berry in 2004 spinoff movie Catwoman
Now this is one rumour I could get behind

Joker and Dent in Batman 3?
I've been tossing and turning (nah, not really - but that sounds better than "I briefly considered for a second posting an item on such-and-such) over whether to post what I've heard could be happening for the-too-far-away-so-I-don't-know-whether-I-should-even-be-mentioning-it "Batman 3" - but shit, since Chuck Roven suggested it (probably without realizing it - but by simply reminding people that the role is much bigger than the actor behind it; he's let the world know he's open to the idea of the character's comeback), I'll just come out with it - heard from someone at the WB that The Joker may be a part of the next Batman film - if even in a minor capacity. I believe "It's definitely possible; ya never know. Heard some things" were his exact words.
Now most will know I know a lot of the execs at the WB Burbank compound from my brief time there developing my flick "First Howl", so this isn't verbal spew from someone that drops the yellow lollies in the urinal's there. It's someone who, whilst not involved in the "Batman" franchise, is involved with some of Warner's other high-profile properties. So yeah, if he's heard something... it's not from the IMDB messageboards.
So what's that mean? Joker may come back? Guess so!.... Concrete? Fuck no!
"Nolan and his team will be throwing many ideas around at the moment", I was reminded in a later email by the same person.
Does it mean that there's a chance, if even a tiny one, that the character might be back? Yeah.
I know, I Know - I can't imagine anyone but Ledger as Nolan's Killer Clown either (and I can imagine Christopher Nolan feels the same) but from what I can gather it'd merely for storytelling reasons - they want to tie-up the character's storyline - not because they wanna keep selling the Joker T-Shirt (which, of course they do).
Now, The Joker featured in an early treatment for the third film.
David Goyer told me a couple of years ago that it was always the plan to have the character feature in both "The Dark Knight" and the sequel that followed it. But he also said, at the time, that the plan was for Harvey Dent not to become Two-Face until the third film, so it goes without saying that things change, and things did. Change, that is. And with Heath Ledger abruptly and rather tragically leaving the world shortly after completing his 'Joker' turn for "The Dark Knight", one would automatically assume that all plans for the character to return - if even in a cameo - for the third film would be scrapped.
'Well, Hello Beautiful' - seems it's still possible the bastard bank robber's still out there.
So, The Joker may be back for the new flick - whenever it happens - and, naturally, with a new actor behind the stringy hair and hard-to-imitate laugh. Now I'm sure it's not definite, and it's merely an idea that's on the table (and even if the character's return is part of a treatment that can easily be changed), but there is a strong possibility that Nolan may bring back the character (as hard as it may be for many of us to accept another actor in the role - in this particular incarnation of the Bat-series, anyway) for a final hurrah.
Oh, and what's this!?....
What's Aaron Eckhart saying? Well, he's hinting that Two-Face may be back for the next film, too.
At today's Globes, the actor cheekily suggested Dent may still be alive.
''Harvey — if he’s not dead — is in a serious coma,” stated Eckhart to MTV, “and I’m not sure he’s coming out. They might pull the plug on him.”
Now, as I said above, the plan was to have Dent (and The Joker) appear in two "Batman" films. Might that still be the case? Despite Ledger's passing (and Two-Faces!) might they still be working from the original "Batman 3" outline?
I doubt it- though it is possible they've written those characters into whatever treatment they're working on now. But I hope not. Personally, I feel both characters have met their ultimate conclusions - there's nothing more to say, especially when it comes to Dent - but I wouldn't be opposed to hearing The Joker's giggle coming from a ward in Arkham Asylum as Bruce Wayne drops off The Riddler (or even Selina Kyle?).
http://www.moviehole.net/200917274-joker-and-dent-in-batman-3
I participated in THE DARK KNIGHT BD Live Screening with director Chris Nolan last night. Gotta say that while it was cool, it didn’t blow my socks off or anything. But cool nonetheless. Anyway…
I didn’t ask any questions or anything since I got to ask Mr. Nolan my questions in person last Summer…hehehe! I knew the fans would ask questions about another film, and they didn’t disappoint. So did Chris let anything about BATMAN 3 slip? Sorta.
He did acknowledge that he and David Goyer have discussed/been working on a story for a third film and one that they are really interested in telling. Frankly, this is no surprise to me -- I told y’all that this film is further along than any of them let on publicly.
What was also interesting was his response to a “Who were the five people Two Face killed?” question. According to BOF‘er “Sam S.,” Nolan said something along the lines of “That’s a story for another time.” Did he forget and was simply blowing the question off, or will those killings somehow tie into BATMAN 3?
Oh yeah, Two Face is indeed dead. :P
UPDATE: I got an email from BOF'er "Sean A." who informed me that he asked Chris the "Who were the 5 Harvey killed?" Question. Here's his update:
"Big fan of the site. Just to give you some feedback on the event, I was actually the one who asked the ‘Two Face/5 Dead People question.’ The actual question I asked was ‘Towards the end of the film, Com. Gordon mentions covering up 5 deaths in relation to Harvey Dent. Who are these 5 people, including the 2 cops?’
Mr. Nolan's response was ‘I will answer this question. Just not today.’ Which I must admit was amusing and frustrating at the same time."

How does the movie that earned the most during 08 and second most in history, not even get a best movie of the year nom this is just crazy.
-
^ While it earned a lot of money, it wasn't really "Best Picture" material... it still had a lot of problems, even if Heath Ledger (and Aaron Eckhart) were amazing in the film.
I hope they keep the Joker out of the next film, if they do it. It just wouldn't work if it's the same continuity as Batman Begins and TDK. Harvey Dent would be okay, I guess. But I'd rather see them do a villain they haven't used in any of the Batman live action films.
-
You know who'd be sweet in the next movie?
Deathstroke. He's pretty realistic, too and I think he could actually fit... especially if they showed him out of costume all eye-patched up.
-
My friend wants Poison Ivy in the next film.. I can't see her working unless they make her more realistic. Even the Scarecrow wasn't too "magical" in the first movie. Deathstroke would be cool though. ... haha I kind of want the Penguin but I can't see anyone but Danny Devito as him now.

The Dark Knight Officially Crosses $1 Billion Worldwide
Just days before the Oscars, The Dark Knight has finally crossed the $1 billion box office mark worldwide. To Warner Brothers, this may be even more exciting than winning any golden statues, because it is now only the fourth movie in history to ever make that much money. Titanic, Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest are the only other three movies to have achieved such a tremendous success. It took a combined 31 weeks, including a January re-release, for Christopher Nolan's comic book movie to make $533 million in the US and $567 million worldwide.
While we don't normally discuss box office stats, it's staggering to look at what The Dark Knight has accomplished. It's the largest 2-D digitally remastered IMAX release in the US with $49.6 million and also the second highest grossing movie of all-time specifically in the US only with $533 million, just $67 million short of Titanic. I've said all along that it may be impossible for anything to ever top Titanic (maybe The Avengers?), but I'm not sure anyone even predicted that TDK would do this well. I know there were those of us who hoped it would, but it took a lot more than crossing our fingers to make that happen.

I think they need to get Catwoman up in this shit!
There has to be a new love interest, and who else would be perfect for that?
But at least let's just hope they get someone who's fucking hot as well as a good actress to play the love interest role this time. >_>
As for other villians, maybe they could get Clayface and make him creepy as all hell too.
Deathstroke might be cool, but I don't know how he would work cause realistically Batman probably wouldn't be able to beat him. >_>

WHERE'S VICKI VALE.
Haha. Kidding. I would LOVE to see a little bit of Catwoman in this.
As far as Deathstroke, maybe Batman not being able to beat him would make for a good story? Not as good as the Riddler though, imho. Clayface would be interesting, but they'd have to work really hard for him to be able to pull a whole movie. He would be pretty badass in Nolan-verse, though.

Christian Bale Says ‘Batman 3’ Might Not Happen
Published by Rick Marshall on Monday, June 22, 2009 at 4:21 pm.
If not for the offer of “whipping lessons” from Michelle Pfeiffer, the Catwoman of 1992’s “Batman Returns,” last week would have been a complete downer for Batman movie fans. On Wednesday, a rumor hit the ‘Net that director Christopher Nolan might not return for a third film after “Batman Begins” and “The Dark Knight,” and we’ve seen little reason to disqualify it thus far. Heck, when we spoke to Batman actor Christian Bale on the set of his upcoming film “Public Enemies,” even he sounded uncertain about the Dark Knight’s big-screen future.
“I truly don’t know that we’re ever going to see another Batman movie,” Bale told MTV News. Bale, whose contract requires him to play Gotham’s greatest hero in at least three films, said Nolan’s participation is likely to be decided by the quality of script over any other factor. “It would be purely that he would need to find a story that was good enough,” said Bale, “and if he couldn’t find that it wouldn’t happen.”
While Bale is obligated to put on the cape and cowl again, the same isn’t true for Nolan. “The Dark Knight” director is currently working on “Inception,” so if “Batman 3″ did enter the equation, production couldn’t begin until 2011 at the earliest. As it is, Bale said the idea of a Batman movie without Nolan wasn’t something he was willing to consider at this point, but reiterated that he wasn’t sure if audiences should ever expect a third film in the current franchise. “I don’t even want to think about that,” said Bale. “I don’t know if there will be a third.”

Nolan and BATMAN 3: FAR From a Done Deal?
FYI: If you are coming to this story from another outlet, NOT ONCE does it say in the following report that Chris Nolan is DONE with the BATMAN film franchise. While many responsible websites sourced this story correctly (THANKS to my colleagues who did just that!), a TON of them did not. Heck, they damn near made up stuff! So again, FYI. - "Jett" When I got the chance to visit with David Goyer and Jonathan Nolan a year ago, one of the things I heard them tell us media folk was that they had to lobby and “convince” Chris Nolan to do THE DARK KNIGHT and they’d probably have to do the same thing for there to be a Nolan-helmed BATMAN 3. Maybe the sale-job on Chris for a third BATMAN is going to be a really tough one this time.
Despite the fact that BOF has had some unofficial assurances that Chris would indeed return and direct a third BATMAN, industry scuttlebutt says – and has been saying – differently. I’ve been told that while they desperately want another Chris Nolan BATMAN, Warner Bros. does have a shortlist of directors (Zack Snyder's reps told BOF that he wasn't interested) they’d consider and ultimately turn to if (and when) Nolan’s done with The Caped Crusader. And frankly, it certainly wouldn’t be prudent of them not to have such a list.
Several (and unrelated) industry friends of BOF have been telling me over the last year that it’s far from a given that Chris will do another one. And alarmingly, this one’s starting to pick up steam. Case it point, a report I received from an old friend of the site overnight via email. This cat works in the business behind the camera and has proved to me long ago to be legit. With that said, this again is what I term “Industry Scuttlebutt,” so keep that in mind. Also, if any of my friends at Warner Bros. or reps of Mr. Nolan want to refute the following, you’ve got an open forum here. Anyway, according to our source…
* The death of Heath Ledger in January of 2008 rocked Mr. Nolan hard. So hard that Chris was convinced that TDK was going to be it for him and Batman on film.
* The Joker was going to return in BATMAN 3.
* “You are correct in reporting that he is developing story ideas with [Jonathan Nolan] and David Goyer, but it will be until AT LEAST 2012 before we see the Caped Crusader back [in theaters]. And that is only an EARLY ESTIMATE at best right now. They are even saying it might not be until 2013.”
* Basically, the BATMAN film franchise is back to square one. As far as a story or a BATMAN 3, “Right now, there is none,” says our guy.
Now, there was some other stuff that was off the record (mainly to protect our guy's identity), but really, it doesn’t affect the jest of this story. The bottom line here is that we may be a ways away from a BATMAN 3 -- with or without Chris Nolan. Look, I want Mr. Nolan to return as much as anyone else and have TONS of respect for him, Emma Thomas, Charles Roven, David Goyer, Jonathan Nolan, and the rest of the folks who’ve given us the BEST two BATMAN films ever. But if Chris is done, then he’s done and I’m sure as hell not going to begrudge the guy. Despite the fact that I am a “Batman Fan” first and foremost, I’ve also grown to be a big Chris Nolan fan as well. BUT…
As a Batman fan, I certainly hope that Warner Bros. has a contingent plan in place – and one much better than the one they had back in the early 90s. Despite the bummer vibe that permeates this report, let me remind you of the positives. One, Warner Bros. has not officially announced that Chris is done and the search is underway for a new Bat-director. Secondly, Nolan himself has admitted to “musing” with David Goyer about the storyline of a third film. Third, back in February, IGN reported that Chris is the only screenwriter attached to B3 per the WGA. And finally, the same industry scuttlebutt that produced today’s story also says that Chris’ deal with WB for INCEPTION included at least a handshake agreement for BATMAN 3.

Gary Oldman Says the Next Batman is Shooting Next Year?!
So don't take this and run with it, but Gary Oldman, who plays Commissioner Gordon, just told fans in Hall H at Comic-Con that the next Batman movie will begin shooting next year. This is the first we've ever heard of this and I think he's jumping the gun a bit and being too hopeful. He didn't say anything else besides that it would be shooting next year (and he wasn't being skeptical - this was a for sure statement). Though he did say, "you didn't hear it from me." As we know, Christopher Nolan is currently shooting Inception, which is scheduled for release next July 16th. But will the script even be ready to go by then?
Here's the problem with the next Batman - everyone's waiting to find out more about it. A few months ago, a bunch of rumors started floating around about Christopher Nolan not being interested in returning, but those were obviously bullshit. So who really knows if they'll actually start shooting this next year (maybe by the end of year after Inception). If anything, someone like Gary Oldman would know. And the way he answered the question made it sound like a sure statement, as in, he wouldn't say that unless he really felt like it would happen. So there you go, you heard it from Gary Oldman - or wait, you didn't hear it from him!

Rumor: Chris Nolan Wants to Shoot Batman 3 Entirely in IMAX
This is only a rumor because it hasn't been confirmed by anyone - Nolan, IMAX, or Warner Brothers. Harry at AICN wrote a piece saying that Christopher Nolan is interested in shooting the inevitable Batman 3 movie entirely in and with IMAX cameras. This isn't all that surprising to hear, as Nolan has been a long-time support of IMAX and really wanted to shoot all of The Dark Knight in IMAX but discovered there are huge technical issues that prevented him (such as only being able to shoot 3 minutes at a time and the cameras being so heavy and loud). But maybe they'll have worked all that out by the time Batman 3 shoots?
At this point in time, almost anything we hear about the third Batman is always a rumor, because Chris is 100% dedicated to Inception right now and they haven't so much as even written a single line of the script yet (or so we've heard). But then again, if IMAX is to work with Nolan to develop a camera that is smaller, quiet, and can shoot more than 3 minutes, they might as well start working on it now. Nolan is shooting Inception as we speak and an IMAX rep told me that "Inception is definitely one of the titles that we are looking at for 2010." I have a feeling that means he's already shooting with IMAX as much as possible.
In fact, Harry addresses just that, claiming: "Part of the reason that Nolan went forward with Inception first - besides taking a creative break from the cape and cowl adventures - was possibly to create a few new IMAX cameras made to his specs." Makes sense, but that side of IMAX (development) is notoriously hard to find out anything about, especially because their engineering team is probably working directly with Nolan already (and not that publicly accessible). However, Harry says that the third chapter of Nolan's Batman saga "could very well be FULLY shot in IMAX, not IMAX Digital - but the beautiful, stunning IMAX that we saw pieces of The Dark Knight in." That would be quite glorious, but is it nothing more than a pipe dream?
Maybe not. We got a good 20 minutes of IMAX scenes during Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and maybe 20 to 30 minutes in The Dark Knight, so with 3 to 4 years of extra technological development and another movie to test new cameras on, maybe they really could find out how to shoot 152 minutes in IMAX. Oh and just to assure you that this isn't all just made up, Nolan himself is quoted in USA Today as saying: "There's simply nothing like seeing a movie that way… I wish I could shoot the entire thing this way." And there's this entire article. So maybe, just maybe, by 2011 or 2012, we'll see Batman 3 entirely in IMAX.

Megan Fox apparently casted to play Catwoman in next Batman movie
The Transformers sex symbol will thrill fans by donning a tight PVC catsuit to play Selina Kyle in director Christopher Nolan's next instalment about the comic book hero, The Sun reports.
Megan, 23, follows in the footsteps of Michelle Pfeiffer, who played Catwoman in Batman Returns, and Halle Berry, who played the vixen in flop spin-off movie Catwoman.
Christian Bale will return as millionaire Bruce Wayne/the Caped Crusader and Sir Michael Caine will be back as his faithful butler Alfred.
Filming is due to begin next year with the movie expected to hit screens in 2011.

Michael Caine Says Batman 3 Might Not Happen
Batman's faithful butler, Alfred, has dropped bad news ... again. Batman fans everywhere have been furiously blogging and discussing the twists and turns in the will-they-or-won't-they debate over a third installment of Christopher Nolan's revamped Batman franchise. Early on it was announced that, although lead actor Christian Bale was contractually obligated to appear in Batman 3, Nolan had no such obligation and might decide not to direct another one.
Screenwriter David S. Goyer gave fans some hope when he said that he believed Nolan would return if he could "find the story that he's happy with." Then, Gary Oldman got everyone excited when he announced that filming would begin in 2010, only to recant his statement a couple days later. Actor Cillian Murphy, who played The Scarecrow in the first two films, is hopeful that another film will be made, and Aaron Eckhart, said that he "would do anything" Nolan asked of him, including reprise his TDK role of Two-Face.
Michael Caine, who plays butler Alfred in both Batman films, initially gave fans some intriguing news when he announced that Johnny Depp and Philip Seymor Hoffman had been cast respectively as The Riddler and The Joker in Batman 3. However, a year later he retracted his statement saying that Depp was not involved and that there was "nobody ... no script, there's nothing." Now, Caine is at it again, this time announcing that fans shouldn't hold their breath for another installment of bat-justice.
"As for the future... if they ever make another Batman, I will be in, I will be the butler... But I don't know if they are ever going to make another Batman. If they do it won't be for quite a while."

They need to make another one. This is by far the best superhero franchises in the movie industry. It would really suck if they dont make another one.
